Prologue

"BAKURA!!!!" thundered Shadii as he cornered the snow topped tomb robber in his soul room, "I HAVE HAD ENOUGH OF YOU!!!!!"

Bakura cringed as Shadii's words echoed off the walls of his soul room and rebounded back to his ears. What the hell was Shadii doing in HIS soul room? For Ra's sake, this was HIS soul room. How dare that turban wearing baldie storm into HIS soul room and yell at him? This was ridiculous!!!

"I WANT YOU TO DECEASE IN YOUR LUDICROUS BEHAVOIR AT ONCE!!!" Shadii continued his rampage as he stomped closer and closer to Bakura with each word. Bakura at his end was rather stupidly standing his ground and glaring at the very, very upset Item Guardian.

"You want me to what my what???" asked Bakura rather confused at the Item Guardian's profound language. He flinched a little when Shadii's previously hard stare developed into a full-blown death glare.

"Are you acting stupid or are you really stupid?" said Shadii quietly. Bakura glared at him and didn't answer.

"You're job is to help the Pharaoh. Not to steal his puzzle. I know that you two have some unsettled business, but what is the point if he cannot remember his real identity? Without the rest of the items, he will forever remain Yami and he will never return to his true self as Atem, then nothing will be resolved. You know that…so why do you persist in halting our progress?" asked Shadii tiredly.

"I don't want to help. I didn't offer to help. I never wanted to help. You keep saying this is for the good of that Ra forsaken Pha…" Bakura gasped as Shadii reached out a hand to grasp his neck in a vice like grip.

"Ra did NOT forsake him. If Ra DID forsake him, he would not have been given this chance to regain his memory." Stated Shadii in a deep monotone.

"It's all about him isn't it? Have HE ever considered what WE might want? What WE might need? Have you?" Bakura let a short bark of laughter as Shadii looked away.

"Well, know what Item Guardian? I REFUSE to stop hunting for the Items. They WILL be mine and I will NOT stop just because you said so. Who cares about the Pharaoh? He obviously doesn't care about us, so why should I care about him? I…"

Smack

A loud sound of flesh against flesh resounded throughout the dark, pilfered treasure filled soul room as Bakura's face swung sharply to the side. Eyes wide with shock, Bakura's eyes narrowed quickly hiding his surprise that Shadii had struck him. Turning his head sharply, he glared at Shadii, who observed him calmly, almost as if he hadn't been yelling at Bakura for the past hour, or that he had hit him only moments ago.

"How dare you Item Guardian. HOW DARE YOU…" growled Bakura as he moved to stand nose to nose with Shadii. Shadii stared calmly at Bakura and shook his head sadly.

"You've forgotten haven't you? Why you agreed to look after the Ring and help the Pharaoh reclaim the items? I should have known. So long a time in the shadows…and without his blessing… Well, I will help you remember."

Shadii reached out a hand and gently cupped Bakura's cheek, tracing Bakura's cheekbone with his thumb.

"I hope, for your sake…" murmuring a spell under his breath, the last thing Bakura remembered, was Shadii's sad smile and a sense of regret.
