Light and Shadows

Chapter 3

Yugi walked back home after school, avoiding having a mental conversation with his yami. It took his attention away from other things. As if almost getting detention for not paying attention in math class wasn't enough of a warning, anyways. Yugi was lucky he knew the answer, or he would've had to stay after. He decided to take the long way home, since it was such a nice day out. Various things distracted his attention, and he decided to get some ice cream. He knew his grandfather wouldn't mind, since Yugi was hardly a person to get involved in fights or drugs after school. True, he had come home a little beaten up a few times by bullies, but Sugoroku knew that he could trust Yugi's words.

Yugi suddenly felt sort of empty, and he noticed that the Millennium Puzzle was dimmer. He looked around, finally spotting Yami, and smiled as he sat down next to him. "Want some?" Yugi held the ice cream in front of Yami's face. "I don't need to eat..." Yami replied, almost stoically.

Yugi laughed as he ate the ice cream, some of it getting on his nose. Yami took a napkin and wiped it off, smiling slightly at his hikari. Suddenly, though, Yugi stiffened. "Yugi, what's wrong?" Yami asked, concerned. "Something's happened to Grandpa..." Yugi said before running off, abandoning his ice cream.

Yugi ran in the slightly open door, not realizing that it was open. He saw the game shop in a mess, and gasped at who he saw. His grandfather was tied up in a chair, and a white-haired boy he had seen at school before was holding a dagger to his throat. "Grandpa!" Yugi was about to move forward when he was stopped by a much taller person. "I wouldn't do that, Yugi Mutou." a voice that reminded Yugi somewhat of Yami's said.

Of course, it was at that time that the white-haired boy noticed the Millennium Puzzle around Yugi's neck. "Kaiba! Take apart that puzzle around his neck!!" he yelled, almost in panic. Kaiba took the Millennium Puzzle from around Yugi's neck, the task made harder by Yugi's struggling to keep ahold of it. Just as Yami ran in the door, Kaiba took apart one piece of the Puzzle, making Yami simply disappear. "YAMI!!" Yugi yelled out, feeling his mental link with his darker half severed.

Yugi simply collapsed, one thought running through his mind. 'He said he would always be there to protect me...' That one phrase ran through his mind. So Yugi was oblivious to the white-haired boy, Bakura, slashing Sugoroku's throat needlessly. "What did you do that for?" Kaiba growled.

"There's no need for anyone to be able to turn us in. The old man would be able to identify us at a glance, ruining our plan..." the sadistic yami smirked. If he had his way, then Yugi wouldn't have the will to carry on once the week was finished. Bakura went over and picked up the discarded Millennium Puzzle, tearing it apart until no two of the golden pieces were together. "And why may I ask are you doing that?" Kaiba asked, not having seen Yami before he had started what Bakura had just finished.

"The Game King... We must find him. He's once again sealed here within the Shadow Realm..." Karios said just days after he predicted what would happen to Yugi.

"We were not able to find him while he was here for 5,000 years, how do you expect us to find him now?" Furikaro asked, almost angrily.

"Patience, Furikaro. The Game King now has a mark on his spirit, one that will make him easy to track down. We will find him within a few short hours, I assure you." Karios reassured his elfin friend.

"You know very well that when it comes to matters concerning the Game King, our master, my patience is thin. If you don't get your head out of those books, we'll never find him, even if we look as hard as we can."

"Furikaro, all of us must have patience. Even so, your impatience is not without good reason. The Blue Eyes, having gone wild without their master, are more dangerous than ever. Should they find our master, they will not hesitate to kill him."

"All the more reason for us to find him now!"

"Give me one night. I will locate him." Karios said firmly.

"I hope you do, Karios. For all our sakes..." Furikaro said as he walked away.

Yugi woke up, feeling stiff and sore. He looked around, trying to identify where he was. When he realized that he had no clothes on and was tied to a bed, he panicked. He was about to cry out for help when he saw Kaiba walk in. "Well, well... you're finally awake. I told Bakura that I wasn't going to take you while you were asleep. I'd rather take you while you had the chance to give your consent. Realize, however, that if you don't, it will just be harder for you."

Yugi didn't know what Kaiba was talking about. He was too frightened to think straight, and his mind was clouded with worry for his yami. With those conditions, it was understandable to someone looking back when Yugi didn't answer Kaiba. However, Kaiba didn't know what was going on in Yugi's head, and so he jumped to conclusions, thinking that Yugi was being stubborn. With that thought in his mind, he slapped Yugi across the face before pushing him down against the bed with one hand, hastily stripping himself of his clothing with the other.

Tears ran down Yugi's eyes as he closed them tightly, retreating into his soul room. Without his yami there to take control of his body, however, there was nothing Yugi could do to stop Kaiba from taking him. There was nothing he could do to stop from seeing out of his own eyes or feeling what happened, either.

Bakura watched in amusement as Kaiba walked away from Yugi. "I told you that he wouldn't cooperate. He's stubborn, and he'll want revenge…"

"Then you keep him for the rest of the week. He's yours. Just don't kill him."

With that said, Kaiba walked away from Bakura, leaving the dark version of his gentle friend to do as he pleased with the helpless form. Anything he wanted, provided he didn't kill the poor boy.
