Yu-Gi-Oh! Fan Fiction ❯ Love Doesn't Have To Be Logical ❯ Prologue: Feelings of the Innocent ( Prologue )
Disclaimer: I do not own Yu-gi-oh! Or everything would be uncut. Oops, did I say that out loud?
A/N: My first official Yu-gi-oh fic, and without anyone else's ideas or writing connected to it. ::does a little victory dance:: Ahem…Well, in this story, Yugi learns that love doesn't always come in a perfect package…and, although I don't really know what the hell goes on after the battle city tournament, this is going to take place right after that. I've also heard that something happens to Malik, can someone please tell me? For now, I'll just have to come up with some reason he's there. And, sorry Tea/Anzu haters, nothing bad happens to her in this story. I'm not a fan but I'm not a `She must die at ALL costs' believer either. I said this in the summary but I'll say it again for those who don't read everything.
Warning(s): This fic will contain Yaoi, swearing, lemon, angst and maybe some other stuff later which I will include in future warnings. But if any of those above don't suit you, then get the hell outta here. Mature readers only here people -_-. And flames are welcomed. Arigato and enjoy.

The bruising clouds rolled over in the sky; they're darkening skin growing blacker with each boom of thunder and drop of rain. Lightning crackled in the air like fireworks and the wind fought hastily in the cold wet air, the trees struggling against their force.
Inside the small game shop, Yugi watched in awe at the newly born storm, it's freshly formed strength raging at the world that it had been brought upon. The raindrops splattered against his window, the tiny water droplets sliding down the glass like tiny bugs trying to resist.
As another clap of thunder echoed through the room, he shivered and pulled his knees up to his chest, wrapping his arms around them to keep them in place. No matter how much he loved storms they always sent a shiver through him. Something about the wild lightning and booming thunder just kinda gave him the chills. Had his guardian been with him it would have been different.
Yugi sighed and lost himself in memory as he recalled all that had been going on for the past year. He was sixteen years old now, as were the others save a seventeen year old Seto, fifteen year old Serenity, twenty- one year old Mai, and an eleven year old Mokuba and Rebecca, now nine. And of course there was their Yami's and Malik and Isis.
They had ended the Battle City Tournament, victory choosing their side as they managed the stop the predestined end of the world. Had it not been for Yugi, Malik might be in a cold grave right now. After realizing the full extent of the young boy's kindness, and seeing how what he thought was not completely true, he slowly became a part of their little group. He still had his gruff attitude, as did Ryou's yami Bakura, but they knew they had mellowed out over time.
He felt a sort of light clench in his heart as his thoughts reverted to his Yami. Once their duty was fulfilled, Seto had let his feelings for the Pharaoh slip, who gladly returned them. They had been a happy couple since then and had left for America for a business trip/ vacation about a month or little more afterwards.
Yugi sighed again, only this gust of breath was filled with sadness. He had a crush on his Yami; he had gotten it just as the tournament had started. But he couldn't let him know then. He barely knew him well enough, and if Yami didn't return the same feelings…Yugi didn't think he could bear it. And now Yami was with Seto so he knew now he had no chance. He was truly happy for the two and was delighted to see Yami full of joy, but he couldn't help but feel a little jealous over the two. Partially because of his feelings for the darker one but mostly because of his own current love status.
He felt his eyes waver as the more depressing memories flooded his mind. Yugi was still single, just as he had been when Yami and Seto had left. He had been on a few dates here and there, thanks to Yami's desire to play Cupid, but no luck resulted from the outcomes. Despite his disappointment Yugi always kept hope. After all, everyone else had someone. After Yami and Seto had hooked up, Bakura came forward and announced him and his Hikari were together as well, as were Malik and Marik. Tristen had finally got enough courage (and approval from Joey) to ask Serenity out, who gladly accepted the offer. Joey and Mai were together now, and Tea then found romance in Duke. Even Mokuba was a proud boyfriend, the lucky girl hanging on his side being Rebecca. Yugi cared deeply for his friends and was glad they had someone, but at the same time, he could not help feeling like a third wheel. After all, out of their little group he was the only single left.
He fought back the persistent tears that stung his eyes, demanding to fall. No one knew of his sadness, he couldn't bring himself to tell anyone. After all they had been through so much, and they were all finally happy. He couldn't do such a thing as to throw his problems on their shoulders. It hurt though. He often cried to himself, one reason because of how far away Yami was, in mind and in body and another being because he just felt so lonely inside. Sometimes he even cried himself right to sleep. No one ever suspected anything because Yugi hid it so well. But he struggled through it. He would be all right as long as he had his friends.
He was shaken out of his thoughts as a loud noise boomed through the quiet air, making Yugi jump from his spot. He had thought it was thunder but instead it was his Grandpa, saying rather loudly through the closed door that he had a phone call. Yugi shrugged as he got up; he figured Arthur was over and they were at a game like usual.
As he thanked his Grandpa and took the phone, he grew curious as to who was calling. It was already late evening, and he had talked to everyone earlier. Could there be an emergency? He thought. Bringing the cordless to his ear he spoke, "Hello?"
"Hey you missing us over there?" A deep, familiar voice said with a hint of amusement.
"Yami!" Yugi was surprised. He hadn't from Yami in quite a while. Their link didn't work correctly sometimes. "What's going on over there? This is a surprise."
"You're telling me. One minute I'm dancing and the next I'm talking to you." He could feel his smile through their link. "So what are you up to? Anything new since we talked last?"
"No, not really. Right now I'm just watching the storm. What about you?" He asked.
"Likewise. The main reason I called was to inform you of something."
"What would that be?" The youth asked, smiling. He liked surprises.
"Seto and I are catching the next flight later and we should be back in Domino tomorrow noon at the latest." Yami braced himself for Yugi's reaction.
"Are you serious? That's great Yami! The others will be glad to hear that. We've missed you so much." Me especially, Yugi thought, but didn't have enough courage to say so.
"I'm aware of that. How could you not miss seeing my beautiful face taunting the street?" The dark one joked. Yugi rolled his eyes.
"You wish. Where will you guys be arriving?"
"The same airport we left at. Domino International I believe. Why don't you guys come meet us there? We can go out for the day as a sort of welcome back type of thing."
"Sure Yami that'd be cool. I'll call them tomorrow morning. We'll be there about twelve-twelve thirty." He promised. He couldn't wait to see Yami again; it had been so long.
"All right that sounds good. Although I'd blare a foghorn through the phone to wake Joey up." Yugi laughed, he wasn't kidding about that. The blonde could sleep through a hurricane and wake up wondering how the hell he got stuck in a tree. It was amazing Mai dealt with it. Yugi yawned all of a sudden.
"You sound like you're getting tired aibou." Yami quipped, catching his soft yawn.
"Just a little." The light replied, although that was quite a lie. He had been up since seven this morning; a little unusual considering it was summer vacation. And he had been going non-stop till just a half-hour ago.
"I don't know why you lie when it should be well clear by now I can tell." Yugi just threw an `oh shut up' at him. The pharaoh laughed, "Well, I think I'll let you go and sleep now aibou. Call me on Seto's cell as soon as you wake up."
"Ok, see you tomorrow Yami, I can't wait. Good night." He yawned again as Yami bid him goodnight and farewell, his tone a little different compared to normal. But Yugi was too tired to care.
After cradling the phone back downstairs and saying good night to his Grandpa and Arthur, he slowly treaded up the stairs, and fell side first on his bed, curling under the sheets as the lightning and thunder dimmed temporarily, as if they were permitting him to sleep. Even the raindrops slowed their rhythm.
His eyelids grew heavier as he made out his last thoughts. Yami was coming back; Yami and Seto would be back in Japan, and the familiar feelings would return. But why did Yami sound different at the end of their conversation? Yugi would have pondered about for had it not been the rain's soft lullaby, luring him into comfortable sleep that left him undisturbed.

A/N: Aww, a love dilemma (Big surprise huh?) Well well, I wonder what's going to happen once the two lovebirds return. And what about Yami acting funny? You know the drill people.
