Yu-Gi-Oh! Fan Fiction ❯ Mai's Secret ❯ The Date ( Chapter 2 )
Tea's Recovery
Tea peeked at the mirror behind Mai. It had only been a week since she was released from the hospital after being raped and beaten. She knew she would have been dead if Yugi hand found her. The bruises on her face had begun to fade, but they were still ugly reminders of what had happened. Tea squeezed her eyes shut, praying her tears wouldn't start again. She was very nervous about going out with Yami.
"Tea," she chided herself. "You've been gone out with Yami before, there is no nothing different about this time." But her mind still wouldn't shut up. Yami had been at Tea's side when the doctor examined her before she'd been admitted to the hospital. The idea of being alone with any guy frightened her.
"Tea, relax. You have to relax. I know you are scared, it's perfectly normal. You have to pick yourself up and just keep going on with life. I think this night out will help you."
Mai and Yugi had arranged for Tea to go out with Yami, the spirit of Yugi's Millenium Puzzle. Yami was against it but had reluctantly agreed. He helped Yugi choose what to wear for the evening. Seeing the fear in Tea's eyes that night had unlocked a memory inside Yami. One he wished he could forget. It also brought out an ache that had lasted over 5,000 years.
On the other side of town, Yugi stood in front of his mirror, deciding which belt to wear. Behind him, reflected in the mirror, sat Yami. Yami looked so lost in thought that Yugi's heart went out to him. Yami had told him about a woman who'd haunted both their dreams since Tea had been attacked. Her name was Ishaira and she'd been Yami's wife. She's been attacked and killed nearly the same fashion as Tea.
"Yugi," Yami thought to himself. "You just don't understand the nature of my feelings on this. Planning this date so soon can scar badly." The ache that had been opened was now a fierce fire burning in him. He'd begged Yugi to rethink his decision. Trusting him alone with Tea definitely would not be in her best interest. Yami suddenly felt the cool reassurance of Yugi's mind.
"Yami, You don't know that. I've seen how she looks at you. Your idea of damage may be the best therapy she could have."
Yugi did have a point. Even after she was so brutally attacked, she still had a fire in her eyes when she looked at Yami. There was no denying that both Yami and Yugi felt an attraction to her.
"Yami, think of it like this. Whatever happens, we both are there for her." Yugi looked back in the mirror one last time. Then reached up to fix a strand of hair. "Well I guess we're ready."
Mai whipped off the towel she had around Tea's neck and stepped back. Tea saw herself in the mirror. She looked like her old self. The bruises were nothing but pale shadows. Mai was right, she was a genius with make-up.
"Now, I have some advice for you Tea." Mai sat on the vanity and crossed her legs. "You may think that you are ready for this, and you may be." She picked up a note pad and wrote something on it. She ripped of the top sheet and handed it to Tea. "This is my cell phone number. If you need to reach me, you can get me at that number. Tea nodded just as the door bell chimed. They both jumped, then Mai got up to answer the door.
"Yami! Tea's almost ready, come in." Tea heard them speak on low voices as they entered Mai's living room. She sighed and walked out of the room, shutting off the light.
** A few Hours Later **
Tea and Yami sat at a small Italian diner. They were sharing a slice of cheesecake. A drop of sauce from the cherries glistened on Tea's lower lip. Yami fought the urge to kiss it off. Instead he reached over and removed the drop with his thumb. Tea took his thumb in her mouth and sucked off the sauce. The waiter appeared and handed them the bill. Yami laid down a few bills and they left.
They walked through the park, towards the game shop. Once there, they went to the living room and watched a movie with Yugi's Grandpa. Tea couldn't keep her hands off Yami and he decided that it would be better to go to Yugi's room.
Okay… I know, Is Yami really making a big mistake, or a big move?
