Chapter 8: Before School Experiences

It's been three days since the traumatic experience at Duelist Kingdom. The gang was back in school, with the exception of Tai; who was now going to Domino High.

“Tea! Wait up!” Tai yelled as he rushed to put on his shoes.

“You were supposed to be ready ten minutes ago Tai! So I'm not going to wait for you!” Tea yelled as she grabbed something to eat and ran out the door.

“She does have a point you know.” Tai glanced back and noticed his step-dad leaning on the stair-rail.

“Yeah, but she could've still waited for me!” Tai said as he stood up to leave. “I'll be seeing you later dad!”

“Bye. Tell you sister that she needs to be home directly after school today! She has chores to do!” Mr. Gardner said as he waved at Tai's back.

“Sure thing!” Tai said as he closed the door.

Sigh. “Children. Always in a hurry to go somewhere.” Mr. Gardner said as he headed towards the kitchen.

“Seems like someone that I remember from high school.” Mrs. Gardner said from behind him, startling him.

“Yeah, I distinctly remember a girl who was always late to first period.” He replied back to her as he turned around and gave her a hug.

(.) Tai and Tea (.)

“Tea! Wait up!” Tai yelled as he spotted his sister who was walking quite fast. “Where are you in such a hurry to get to anyway? School doesn't start for another 45 minutes!”

“I'm going to Yugi's! I always go there before school!” Tea replied back.

“Hey Tea! Where's Yamagata living at?” Tai asked as soon as he caught up to her.

“Oh, he lives over there.” Tea pointed towards a huge house that was to their left.

“In that mansion?! Cool! Well, I'll be seeing ya! I'm going to have a talk with Yamagata!” Tai said, waving to Tea as he ran in the direction that Tea pointed.

“Wait Tai! That might not be such a…good…idea.” Tea said, but Tai was too far to hear her anymore. `Oh well, he'll find out what might happen to him when he knocks on the door, if he manages to get that far.'

(.) Tai (.)

`Wow, this place is huge! And I'm just looking on the outside!' Tai thought in awe as he got a closer look at the mansion. `I wonder what Yamagata and that brat Mokuba do with all that extra space…'

Tai slowly made his way to the front gates of the mansion only to run into a problem: how was he going to get inside? He couldn't very well break in, Yamagata would probable sue the heck outta him. Taking a quick look around, Tai decided to try and climb over the gates to get inside. In other words, break in.

Sigh. “What are you doing Tai?” An annoyed voice asked as Tai started up the gate.

“Huh? Oh nothing. Just trying to get into Yamagata's house.” Tai replied, not really noticing who he was talking to.

“Oh really? Wouldn't that be called breaking and entering? Especially if the owner of the house is there to witness the breaking in.” Kaiba said, smirking slightly.

“Own….” Tai slowly looked behind him and saw a person that he really didn't want spotting him at this particular moment. “Heh, hey Yamagata. How's it going?”

“Good enough, with someone trying to break into my house of course.” Kaiba said, the smirk on his face growing in size.

“Um, about that. You see, I wasn't really trying to break in, I just wanted to ask you a few things.” Tai said as he tried to wave his hands showing that he was innocent, but he ended up letting go of the bars and landed in a pathetic heap in front of Kaiba's feet. “Oww…”

“Hm…I can tell. What did you need?” Kaiba asked, quite annoyed that this incompetent fool was keeping him away from his very important work.

“Nothing really, I was just wondering what happened to you after you and the brat left the orphanage.” Tai asked as he clumsily stood up, with the help of one of the bars blocking the Kaiba Mansion.

“Nothing. Now leave.” Kaiba said angrily. How dare this guy ask him that?

“Sorry, geez. I didn't think that it was that personal to y…” Tai began, but was quickly interrupted by a slightly high-pitched voice from the doorway of the mansion.

“Big brother! What are you doing out there? Shouldn't you be inside?” Mokuba yelled as he looked out the doorway.

“Mokuba! You're supposed to be getting ready for school! What are you doing still in your pajamas?!” Kaiba yelled back when he saw what Mokuba was wearing.

“Huh? Oh, I just woke up five minutes ago!” Mokuba replied while slowly backing into the house.

“Oh really? You were supposed to be up at least an hour ago! So go get ready!” Kaiba yelled as Mokuba ran inside and shut the door.

“Wow. You act more like a dad to him than a brother.” Tai said after the entire exchange between siblings was over.

“Hn. Yeah, whatever.” Kaiba said as he unlocked the gate and started to walk towards the mansion. “Are you coming or not?”

“Yes, I'm coming! Wait up!” Tai said as he ran to catch up to Kaiba just in time since the gate started to close on them. “Sooo, you got a nice house Yamagata.”

“Sure.” Kaiba replied, slightly annoyed.

“Um…how'd you get it?” Tai asked, trying to strike up a conversation.

“My step-father.” Kaiba said with malice evident in his voice.

“You hated him, didn't you?” Tai said, secretly happy that he was getting even this piece of information.

“Of course I hated him!” Kaiba roared when they reached the front doorstep.

“Geez, I can tell.” Tai slowly backed away from Kaiba at that moment.

“Whatever. You can stay in the entertainment room, the kitchen, or Mokuba's room. NOT my office or my room, got that?” Kaiba said as he opened the door and automatically went straight to his office.

“Um, sure. But…where are those rooms at?” Tai said, slightly embarrassed.

Sigh. “Here's a map. Find out for yourself.” Kaiba said as he pointed to a map that Mokuba created of their house.

“Thanks. I think…” Tai said as he paused to take a look at the map. “Hm…okay. The kitchen's to my far left, Yamagata's office seems to be a little ways from the kitchen, the entertainment center…..hm…..looks like it's upstairs next to Mokuba's room, two bathrooms -only two in a place like this?- and fif…fifteen bedrooms?! That's a lot!”

After looking at the map for a few more minutes, Tai decided to take a look around the entertainment center since Mokuba was supposedly getting ready and he didn't feel like being in the kitchen right now.

`Damn, that's a lot of stairs.' Tai thought as he looked up the flight of stairs that he had to climb. `Why didn't I just choose to stay in the kitchen?'

Tai made his way up the stairs, counting each step that he took. When he finally reached the top, he counted over 50 steps! Taking a quick look around, Tai spotted MANY doors. The problem: which door is the entertainment center and which isn't?

`Why does Yamagata have to live in a house this big? Someone could easily get lost!' Tai thought as he began to randomly open doors.

Tai continued to randomly open doors until he came across a scary but funny sight: Kaiba's bedroom.

`Heh, Mokuba was right. He does have pictures of Tea all over his wall.' Tai thought with a faint chuckle.

“What's so entertaining Tai?” A rough voice said, making Tai jump around.

“Um…nothing Yamagata.” Kaiba was slowly approaching Tai with the promise of death if he didn't tell what he was doing in Kaiba's room. “I got lost okay! I was just looking for the entertainment center, that's all! I didn't really mean to barge in on your room! Honestly!”

“It's that way Tai.” Kaiba said, pointing towards a door that read `Entertainment Center' on it.

“Oh, hehe, yeah. I guess it is.” Tai said as he slowly backed towards the door.

“Now get out!” Kaiba yelled angrily, slightly blushing that he'd been found out…AGAIN.

“I'm going!” Tai squeaked as he ran towards the entertainment center, but stopped for a second and pointed towards the door. “Hey Yamagata, is there supposed music coming from in there?”

“Music?! There's music in there?!” Kaiba said as he somewhat ran to Tai and pushed him out the way. “Of course there's not supposed to be music in there!”

“Huh? Oh Tai! How's it going?” Mokuba said as he opened the door, completely ignoring his older brother, for now anyway.

“It's going good.” Tai said nervously. The look on Kaiba's face wasn't a very nice one, that it wasn't.

“Argh…MOKUBA!!!!!” Kaiba yelled when he noticed that Mokuba was still in his pajamas.

“Oh, hey big brother. About the pajamas…” Mokuba started, but was immediately stopped when he felt himself lifted off the floor and quicky being carried to his room. “What are you doing big brother?”

“If you won't get yourself ready for school, I'll have to do it for you!” Kaiba said as he playfully thrust a laughing Mokuba on his bed. “What do you want to wear?”

“How about one of my green shirts and my favorite black pants?” Mokuba said as he got up, slightly chuckling still.

“Um…okay.” Kaiba said as he went into Mokuba's walk-in closet. “Which green shirt?”

“The one with the strips of yellow on the middle!” Mokuba said as he hopped off of his bed. “Were you serious when you said that you'd dress me?”

“Yes, I was.” Kaiba responded as he grabbed Mokuba after finding the clothes that he requested. “Now take off you shirt.”

“Yes sir!” Mokuba saluted as he began to take off his shirt. “So, how much time do we have until school starts?”

“About…hm…30 minutes.” Kaiba said as he looked at his watch. “Okay, let's get this shirt on.”

As Kaiba was about to put Mokuba's shirt on him, they heard a loud “Smile!” from the doorway and then saw a flash of a little red light. It was Tai… with a camera.

“TAI!!!!!!!” Kaiba yelled as he dived at Tai, trying to get the camera away from him. “Give me the damn camera!”

“No! It was such a good camera moment that I couldn't resist!” Tai said as he ran out of the room and down the stairs, laughing.

“Mokuba, put your pants on and eat.” Kaiba gritted out. “I'm going to catch that stupid buffoon.”

“Okay big brother!” Mokuba said as he headed for the stairs.

^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^10 minutes later^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^

“Mokuba! Get your things! We're leaving now!” Kaiba yelled from the door after unsuccessfully getting the camera from Tai. “You have 20 minutes until your school starts! Hurry up!”

“Okay big brother!” Mokuba yelled from upstairs. “I'll be down in a sec! I just gotta save my game!”

“Fine!” Kaiba yelled back up and then noticed Tai sitting around in his kitchen. Sigh. “Tai, do you want a ride?”

“Oh, definite….I mean, yes please.” Tai said sheepishly. He didn't even think about how he was going to get to school.

“Well then, get your lazy ass over here!” Kaiba yelled at him as Mokuba came bounding down the stairs.

“I'm ready big brother!” Mokuba said as he ran up to him.

“Okay, let's go.” Kaiba said as he led the two outside towards the back of the building. “Which do you want to ride in Mokuba? One of my cars, motorcycles, or the limo?”

“Hm…I really like your motorcycles. Let's go in one of those!” Mokuba said as he pointed at the one he wanted to ride.

“Okay then, get on.” Kaiba said as he scooted towards Tai to tell -more like threaten- him about his motorcycles. “You can ride one, as long as you do not: A) crash, B) harm it in anyway, C) brag to anyone that it's yours, and D) you MUST always remember that it's MINE!”

“Okay Mr. Yamagata sir!” Tai said as he anxiously rubbed his hands together. “Don't you worry, I've ridden a motorcycle before!”

“You better have.” Kaiba said as he pointed towards the motorcycles. “Choose one.”

“Already have!” Tai said as he ran towards a sleek black one with red flames that seemed to shoot off of it and a big KC on it that represented Kaiba Corp. “I wanna ride this one!”

“Fine. Grab a helmet from over there and get going.” Kaiba said as he pointed towards a wall that hade many different helmets on it. “You do know where our school is, don't you?”

“Um…nope.” Tai blushed from embarrassment as he grabbed a helmet that also was black with red flames on it and a KC.

“Fine. You'll just have to follow me then.” Kaiba said as he grabbed himself and Mokuba a helmet before lifting Mokuba up and putting him on a glossy dark green and black motorcycle. “We have to drop Mokuba off at Domino Elementary first.”

“That's fine with me.” Tai said as he started the motorcycle. “I'm ready to follow your command Mr. Yamagata!”

“Let's go!” Kaiba said as he got on and started his motorcycle.

^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^With Tea^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^

“Yugi, I'm worried about Tai. What could've happened to him?” Tea said for the fifth time after Tai didn't show up at Yugi's house after his visit with Kaiba. “Maybe Kaiba did something to him!”

“I doubt it Tea.” Yugi said as he picked up his bag and put it on. “If he's at school, then nothing happened to him, okay?”

“I hope you're right Yug.” Tea said as they headed to school.

^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^Tai and Kaiba^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^

“Bye Mokuba!” Tai said as he pulled out the camera again. Kaiba and Mokuba were currently having a “good day at school” hug…another perfect camera moment. “Heh, smile again guys!”

“Tai! Would you put that damn thing away?!” Kaiba said as he broke of the hug and turned around to charge at Tai.

“Big brother, your school starts in five minutes! You'd better hurry!” Mokuba said as he looked at his watch when he took off his helmet.

“Damn, really? We have to hurry!” Kaiba said as he forgot about Tai and jumped on his motorcycle. “Have a good day Mokuba!”

“Yeah Mokuba! Have a good day!” Tai waved as they roared away on their motorcycles.

“Ya know what, Yamagata? You're doing a good job raisin' that kid.” Tai complimented.

“Yeah, I'm just glad that he's not coming out like I did.” Kaiba reflected on his horrible childhood after the orphanage.

“Whatever happened, it seems that you really don't want Moku….Hey Yamagata, isn't that Tea?” Tai said as he pointed towards a small group of people walking. “It looks like Tea, Yugi, that Joey person, and that other dude.”

“Yeah, it's the loser brigade.” Kaiba said as he looked over to where Tai was pointing.

“Sure, I guess.” Tai shrugged. “Hey Tea! Over here!”

“What the hell are you doing?!” Kaiba said as he heard Tai yell.

“Calling to them! What else?” Tai responded.

^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^Tea, Yugi, Joey, and Tristan^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^

Tea heard a loud “Hey Tea! Over here!” from the direction that two motorcycles were coming in.

`That can't be Tai, can it?' Tea thought as the two roared to a stop. `Or….it can.'

“Hey Tea! Wanna ride?” Tai asked as he pulled off his helmet.

“Wow, sweet ride Tai! Where'd you get it?” Joey said before he noticed something peculiar about it. Why did it say KC on it? “Hey Tai, who's KC?”

“Joey, that's the initials for Kaiba Corp.” Yugi said as he glanced at the other biker. “Hey Kaiba, I didn't know you had motorcycles!”

“K-Kaiba? You mean that rich bastard has motorcycles?!” Joey said amazed as he looked at the other biker as he pulled off his helmet.

“Heh, Tai. We're going to be late if we don't hurry the hell up.” Kaiba said, ignoring the four who were staring at him and Tai.

“Yeah, you're right. Well, Tea, do you want a ride?” Tai asked again as they put their helmets back on.

“Only if the guys can as well.” Tea said as she started walking towards the school.

“Oh, okay. Well, bye then!” Tai said since he knew that there wasn't any room for all of them.

“Finally.” Kaiba said as they took off for the school building.
