Not Who They Seem To Be, Last Chapter
Yugi closed the large journal and passed it to Ryou for inspection.
"Do you think we missed anything?" Yugi asked the silver haired boy.
"No..." Ryou said, running his fingers over the pages as he read all the details of their lives from a few weeks earlier.
"Ryou, don't read it." Bakura said to him. He gently took the book from Ryou's hands and read it himself. "No, it seems alright. I think the others should read it though, just to be safe." Bakura said. Yugi nodded and took the book, passing it around the small circle they were sitting in. They were in Seto's living room, sitting almost as they were the night Yami was set free, only now they were all on the floor, each sitting as close as possible to their lovers. It seemed Yami had made a full recovery, but remembered very little.
"You messed this part up, Yugi." Malik said, breaking the silence that had settled in very suddenly. It wasn't a happy occasion in which they were all gathered, for none of them wished to remember past events.
"What's wrong?" Yugi said, looking at the point where Malik was pointing.
"You wrote that Mali' and I weren't home when you called." Malik said with a mischievous grin. Yugi blushed and took the journal, erasing and re writing the one scene. Not that is was going to make much of a difference in a few minutes, but they wanted every detail to be perfect anyway. Yugi was chosen to write because he had the neatest writing out of the people who could actually write without breaking down-basically including Ryou and Yami.
"Is this better?" Yugi asked, handing the book back. Both nodded and passed the book along to Seto and Yami who just let it pass by. Both knew it was accurate and didn't wish to recall every last event. They passed it to Mai, who passed it to Tristan-neither had a very large role, but it was still important for them to be there. They passed it along to Ryou and Bakura once again and it was handed to Joey and Yugi. With everyone's assurance that the details were correct, Yugi signed his name at the end and waited for Joey to sign his, before passing it around the group once more until everyone had signed it.
"Are you all ready?" Yugi asked. They nodded and gathered around the fireplace.
"I hope this works." Malik whispered to his Yami. His Yami gave him a reassuring squeeze and said nothing.
When they were all in front of the fire, Yugi held the book and they sat.
"Hopefully this will help bury the past." Yugi said. Everyone nodded and Joey signaled Yugi. Seeing the signal, Yugi took the book and threw it into the fire. All sat and watched till the last shred of their past was burned; until all that was left, were the ashes.
"'Kura~!" Ryou whined. He heard his Yami laugh in response. Ryou pouted, not seeing what was so funny. He was blindfolded and being led somewhere. He had no idea where they were going because Bakura wanted it to be a surprise. Normally, Ryou didn't mind surprises but he didn't like be led somewhere, blindfolded, especially after being dragged out of bed in the middle of the night.
"Don't worry Ryou, you'll like it." Bakura said. Suddenly they came to a stop and Ryou noticed that it had gotten colder. It was now summer, a little while after that frightening experience they all had not long before.
"'Kura? Why is it so cold?" Ryou asked. He began to shiver until he felt warm arms wrap around him from behind and the blindfold removed.
"I felt like you needed to get out of the house, you've been cooped up too long, love." Bakura said. Ryou looked around. It was definitely night, but not very dark. The sky was so clear that the moon and the stars shone brightly, illuminating the park they were in. It had gotten colder because they were standing under a large sakura tree, its soft pink petals littering the ground around it.
"'Kura...What's all this for?" Ryou asked.
"I thought it would be something you'd enjoy. Was I wrong?" He asked. Ryou mentally slapped himself when he heard the hurt tone in his Yami's voice.
"No, not at all. I love it, 'Kura, thank you." Ryou smiled and twisted in the embrace he was still sharing with his Yami and gave him a loving kiss.
Bakura laid the two of them down on a blanket that Ryou hadn't known was there and continued to kiss him.
Ryou ran his fingers through his Yami's hair as the kisses trailed down his neck.
Suddenly, the kisses stopped and Bakura climbed off him and laid next to him, curling his other half next to him.
"'Kura?" Ryou asked, a little confused and also expecting more.
"Not tonight, Ryou. Tonight, I just want to be with you." He said gently. He grabbed another blanket and wrapped it around the two of them.
"'Kura?" Ryou asked.
"Yes, Ryou?"
"Thank you." He said. Bakura chuckled and tightened his hold.
"You've said that." He whispered. He kissed Ryou's forehead and Ryou snuggled closer. "You're welcome, Ryou." Bakura muttered, and soon, both of them were asleep. Both unafraid of any danger, safe and assuming that it was all over.
Back at Seto's, Seto and Yami were also cuddled up together, asleep. At least, one of them was asleep. The other lay awake, wondering.
Soon...Soon...
Then they fell asleep.
End.
A/N - Yes, this is the end of the fic. Dumb ending, ne? Anyways, don't worry I'm working on something for this. In the meantime, you can read my other fic, it's an alternate universe fic called 'doubles of darkness'. I'll try to get some more writing done, ja ne!
