Prince's Servant

As Amy approached the king's thrown, his priests stared at her. She didn't like being stared at, so she shot them a little glare. They turned away and faced the pharaoh who cleared his throat.

“You are a remarkable little girl, there.” He said to Amy. Amy shot him a death glare.

“I am not little!” she snapped at him. The pharaoh laughed. Amy could tell that the priests were trying to hold in their laughter.

“Yes, yes. Hmm. But you are remarkable indeed. Please tell me, have you've done anything like this before?” he questioned her. Amy stood up straight suddenly.

“Err… if you are asking whether or not I have used my magic before, then yes. I have.” She answered with a slight tone of annoyance in her voice. The priests muttered among themselves. The pharaoh nodded.

“Then I would like you to stay with us here. We shall…err…find you a job. But first, we must decide if you ka is pure enough to belong here.” He told Amy. Ka meant “spirit” and Amy knew exactly what he meant. She had witness other kings doing this before. She didn't want them to “run tests” on her so she used her magic to protect herself from their Millennium items.

“I would like it if you don't. Is there any other way for me to prove my innocence?” she asked. But before the king could answer, he was interrupted by a maid running in and yelling at the top of her lungs.

“The prince is still crying, my pharaoh!” she said, panting. “What should we do? We have tried almost everything possible!” Amy glanced at the pharaoh again. He rubbed his chin. He looked up and looked at Amy.

“This is your chance. If you can stop my son from crying, you shall be able to work here. You may be my son's servant too. It's the least I can do…” he told her. Amy gasped.

“Me? Being the prince's servant? I'd rather be chewing on desert sand right now!” she spat at him. The pharaoh raised an eyebrow.

“Now, there's no reason to be cocky!” he said in a calm voice. Amy shot a death glare at him. He motioned the maid to bring in the young prince. Moments later, she came scurrying back with a baby in her arms. The baby was wrapped in a large piece of cloth. He had brown skin like everyone else and had yellow bangs. Other than that, he was bald. Amy made a face.

“He…does seem adorable,” she said, trying to level up to the pharaoh. The pharaoh motions for the maid to hand Amy the baby. The maid strolled over to where Amy was standing. Amy held out her arms and the maid handed her the baby. Everyone stared at her. Amy cradled the crying baby in her arms. Amy was determined to get the young prince to stop crying without magic.

“Hush, now, my young prince,” Amy whispered to him. “No one will hurt you.” The prince seemed to be in a trance with every word she said. The pharaoh gaped at her. Amy looked up at the pharaoh.

“May I ask what his name is?” she questioned him. The king sat up straight.

“You shall address him as `Atemu',” he answered. Amy made a face at him. He just had to be so royal! Amy looked back at the little baby in her arms. He was sniffling now and was looking up at Amy with his violet eyes. Amy cocked her head and smiled warmly at him.

“Cute. Atemu, you don't want to be a disturbance to others now, do you?” she said, walking in circles. She lifted him higher so his head was resting above her chest. She kissed him quietly on the head. Some priests advanced towards her but the pharaoh stopped them. At long last, Atemu stopped crying.

The pharaoh applauded her. Amy turned around to face him. She beamed at him. Grinning, she walked over to him.

“I see that you've proved yourself worthy.” He nodded. “You are now in charge of taking care of my son, the future pharaoh. If anything should happen to Atemu, this will be on your head.” Amy shivered. She had a really tough job now. But at least she had a place to stay and eat. Not to mention bathe. Amy grinned once more.

“You may now address me as Pharaoh Anenkun.” He told her. He gestured for everyone to leave. “Go now, girl. You may serve him tomorrow.” Amy glared at him.

“And you may address me as `Amy', sir.” She spat at him. Anenkun laughed and gestured for her to leave too. The maid took Atemu from her arms and scurried off.

“I have work for you later. Mahaado here will show you to your room.” He said, nodding towards a boy. The bow had brown skin, like everyone else, and markings across his eyes. He looked older than Amy by about 2 or 3 years. He blushed and advanced towards Amy. She suddenly noticed that he was taller than she was. Growing even redder, he looked at Amy.

“Please follow me.” He told her, trying to keep calm. As he leads Amy to her room, Amy could see that his ears turned pink too.

“Err…If you're not comfortable leading me to my room, you could just tell me where it is.” Amy said to Mahaado. He turned around. His face was getting lighter and he cocked his head.

“It's okay. Besides, I have nothing to do.…” He answered, his voice calmer. Amy nodded slightly and walked towards him. He was caught off by surprise and stood rooted in his place. Amy stopped in from off him and smiled warmly. He stood up straighter, if possible. Amy leaned up and kissed him lightly on his cheek. When she got off her tip-toes, she grinned at him and walked off.

She stopped at a door and turned around. Pointing to the door with her thumb, she asked, “Is this my room?” Mahaado spun around and nodded quickly. She smiled and, after thanking him, opened her door and stepped inside.

Looking throughout her room, she saw that her bed had fluffy white pillows and golden decoration on the wood. The room was big, but not too big. She sat on her bed and sighed. Finally. I room of her own! She fell over and closed her eyes. Not minding if she got cold or not, she fell instantly asleep.
