Yu-Gi-Oh! Fan Fiction ❯ Pillow Talk ❯ Lullaby ( Chapter 5 )

[ Y - Young Adult: Not suitable for readers under 16 ]

IT'S ABOUT TIME! >D

Usually in this segment, I would fill you in on what happened to the characters, and yadda, yadda, yadda. But y'know, I don't really feel like recapping the last chapter. This is the part of the story in which depending on who you are or what your taste in music is will either make you love me to death or hate my guts (I know I'm risking a lot, including my life, but… nothing ventured, nothing gained, right?). If you don't like the song, you can scroll past it if you want, but you'll be missing a lot because that's when… Well, that's giving away the story, well isn't it? ^_~

DISCLAIMER: I don't own Yu-Gi-Oh, nor do I own the song in this fic, or the original performer of this relaxing musical masterpiece, although I wish I did, as he's a hottie (Except I kinda wish he'd get rid of that facial hair…).

RATED: This time, it's PG. It's slightly more cutesy than the other chapters (And if you don't like cutesy, then sux 2 b u.)

Chapter 5: Lullaby

Thursday, 10:36 PM. Tea was brushing her hair when Tristan gently tapped her on the shoulder.

"Hey…"

"Yeah?"

Tristan cleared his throat. "Listen… From chapter 3 on, I was reciting quotes from Fake, because you know they say that gay guys know girls better than straight guys…"

"Um… Dee and Ryo are bisexuals," Tea corrected him. "And so is like, almost every other guy in the series, except Bikky, Rai, the chief, and I think that piece of crap, JJ." (Sorry, fans! I don't like him!) She took a deep breath. "AND…! You said that you were already dating someone."

"Oops…" Tristan sweatdropped in humiliation. "I wish someone told me earlier… By the way, Susan's dating some guy named Tony…"

"Man! Why am I always the last to know stuff around here?!"

"But anyway," Tristan continued. "I'm sorry. I just wanted to learn how to get a woman's attention… starting with yours."

Tea, startled, blushed and drew in a quick breath. "I… I had no idea…!"

He coughed once more. "Yeah… I know I was stupid. If you can't go out with me, then can you at least forgive me?"

She gave the youth a stern glare with her sapphire eyes. "You know, I wouldn't go out with you, even if you were the last person on earth, but…" she then relaxed her expression. "I'll still forgive you… You were very nice to me yesterday…"

"Works enough for me!" Tristan hugged Tea, and she kindly returned it.

All the while, Yugi Mutou was watching the humorous scene from his bed, but he wasn't laughing. 'At least those two have each other… But Joey's not with me.' Yugi slouched down somberly. 'They told me that Joey and I were hypnotized. Tristan and Tea didn't tell me much else other than that I tried to drown myself and that Joey crashed through the windows and risked his life just to save me… Does this mean he'll say he loves me soon…?' He sighed apprehensively. 'He's not here right now… I'm so worried. 'What if something bad has happened to him again? What if I can't see him anymore? …And what was all that noise coming from the bathroom all day?! It sounded like people dying…' Yugi put his hand upon his ears and winced at the shrill sound. 'Augh! There it is again! Whoever's in the bathroom, would you please stop killing people?!?!?!'

Joey came out of the bathroom.

'Whoops. Maybe I shouldn't say anything else…'

"Hey, Yugi," he traveled to his bed.

"J-Joey…?" Yugi wondered if he should ask about why Joey saved him. At the last minute, he decided not to, because he assumed that Joey would deny his feelings. "…Never mind."

"Oh…" Joey looked away despondently. He wanted to make a confession about his and Yami's conversation and had hoped that Yugi would also admit his true emotions. "Well, good night…"

The two went to sleep without so much as another word after that.

*****

Friday, 6:45 PM. "Hurry up, Tea. We're gonna be late," Tristan, in a black suit. dress shirt, and shined shoes adjusted his necktie.

"The thing starts at seven, don't worry," She was wearing a shimmering orange halter dress, and adjusted her diamond stud earrings. "Besides, you don't know how hard these things are!" (I wouldn't know either, because I'm too much of a chicken-wuss to get my ears pierced!) She then pulled a strap on one of her formal sandals.

"What thing's starting at seven?" Yugi asked. "Is this what we're dressed up for? And where's Joey?" He was wearing a miniature satin black suit with a white blouse, a silk white vest, black dress shoes, and an adorable bow tie (Don't ask me how these kids can afford all this stuff.)-not to mention his puzzle as well.

'Ack! We weren't supposed to tell him about that!' Tea panicked, then regained her naturally chipper form. "Er… don't worry about him. He'll be fine."

"Just relax and close your eyes," Tristan sneaked up from behind Yugi-kun, produced a black sash and tied it around his eyes, disabling his vision.

"Hey! Let go! What're you doing?!?!?!" before Yugi could react any further, Tea grabbed his hands and covered his mouth. He was then led downstairs.

'Oh, God, this is so scary…' The blindfolded Yugi swallowed hard with fear. He tried his best to bear it all through the trip, though he now believed that his friends betrayed him and are now trying to kidnap him.

*****

7:01 PM. "You can open your eyes, now…," said a wonderfully familiar voice.

"What…? Is that…?" Yugi's heart skipped a beat, hoping that the voice belonged to who he thought it was. The sash was removed from his eyes. The next thing he knew, he was in a lovely ballroom, perfectly lit with an aesthetic assortment of chandeliers. There was a stage with velvet red curtains and tables and chairs occupied by spectators, chatting and laughing as if there was naught to worry about. This sight was obscure to Yugi, however, because all he focused on was Joey, wearing a loose, silk sky blue blouse with a cotton white shirt showing underneath, slightly lustrous black slacks, and dress shoes.

"Hey there." He smiled flirtatiously at Yugi. "This is the contest you heard of."

"Oh, J-Joey!" His cheeks were dusted with rose upon viewing his brown-eyed buddy's boy-band member appearance (Yeah, I know. Gay written all over him!). "A-are you performing…? 'I hope not. I wouldn't want anyone to pull a Simon on you.'"

"I sure am," he replied. "You've heard me practicing in the bathroom, right?"

' You were SINGING?!?!?!' Yugi had an anime fall.

The three looked at him with bug eyes and sweatdropped.

"Err… that reminds me… I gotta go," Joey departed to the backstage.

*****

7:15 PM. A few other contestants had finished their acts, but Yugi was too impatient to wait for Joey's turn. "May I please know why Joey is performing?"

"No," Tea and Tristan shook their heads.

"Well then, do I have permission to know what song he's gonna sing?"

"Nuh uh," answered Tea.

"He didn't even tell us," said Tristan.

"Why not?!" Yugi jumped to stand in his chair.

"It's probably one of his sister's songs…" Tristan sighed and placed a hand on his chin. "I just know it. Most likely, he wants to-OW!" He just got smacked in the face by Tea.

"You idiot! You're not supposed to tell him yet!"

Yugi sank back down, grimacing. 'I don't know what the big secret's about. Unless…'

At that very thought, Joey appeared onstage, microphone in hand. "Hey, everybody! This song…"

"Gulp," Yugi both hoped and hoped not that his purpose there was for what he thought it was.

"…is dedicated to one of my best buds in the world…" Joey reached out a palm to a certain blushing spikey-haired fellow, and the audience let out an "Aww". "Can you believe I used to pick on him a lot?"

The redness on Yugi's face deepened He lowered his face and covered it with his hands out of embarrassment for himself and his companion.

"Yeah, Yug, can I embarrass you for awhile?" Joey grinned. "I just wanted to say… I don't wanna be friends with you anymore…"

Yugi's hands were slowly removed from his youthful face as his eyes widened in shock. He certainly thought his friend still wanted to be with him… right?

"Because…" The music started to play. The tranquil sound of violins, guitars and percussion didn't sound like "Cry me a River"… "I want us to be… more than that…"

Yugi let his mouth drop in surprise. He was about to close his ears, preparing for the worst, but…

I wanna be your lake, or your bay,

And any problems that you have, I wanna wash 'em away…

The target of Joey's serenade was wrong to not expect the unexpected, for his voice was so… beautiful! And it didn't sound like lip-synching!

I wanna be your sky, so blue and high,

And every time you think of me, I wanna blow your mind…

Yugi became a little braver enough to look up. Every gesture that Joey made to him… Watching his body sway, flowing along with the rhythm… Yugi's heart stopped rushing and began to throb in tune with the beat.

I wanna be your air, so sweet and fair,

So when you feel that you can't breathe, I'll be there…

'If the lyrics describe how you really feel about me, then…' Yugi thought.

I wanna be your answer, all the time,

When you see how I put your life before mine

With no question…

'…I love you even more than ever, Joey.'

When all the love feels gone, and you can't carry on,

Don't worry, 'cause, I'm 'a take it from here

Just as sure as the sun will shine, every morning, every time,

Don't worry, 'cause, I'm 'a take it from here

The other two of Yugi's friends contently watched him as he started to enjoy his surprise.

I wanna hold your hands, review all your plans

I wanna make sure every one of your dreams is there… (Hey, that doesn't rhyme!)

I wanna be your Broadway show, on review…

Yugi whispers, "Why…?" (BTW, that was also part of the original song)

So I could act out how God was when He made you…

He flushed and smiled cutely.

I wanna be your lighthouse when you get lost

I'll light a bright and shiny path to help you across

I wanna be your mother… wait.

Everyone giggled.

See what I see

When you see that, can't nobody hold you like me,

Cause I love you…

Joey pointed to Yugi and winked.

'Finally…' they exchanged an affectionate gaze.

When all the love feels gone, and you can't carry on,

Don't worry, 'cause, I'm 'a take it from here

Just as sure as the sun will shine, every morning, every time,

Don't worry, 'cause, I'm 'a take it from here

"Aww, that's so sweet," Tea whispered to the red-faced little boy.

And when there's no one there to hold, and you realize the world is cold,

Don't worry, 'cause, I'm 'a take it from here

Just as sure as the sun will shine, every morning, every time,

Don't worry, 'cause, I'm 'a take it from here…

"Yeah, we didn't leave yet, 'cause Joey wanted to say he loves you in a song," Tristan added.

Give me one reason why we should not be leavin'

This world is so deceivin', the time is now

Let's fly away speedin', through the Garden of Eden,

Where all the sweet and breathin' of love surrounds…

"I'm… still worried about Joey, but…" Yugi soaked in the warm feeling, with the sparkly anime bubbles in the atmosphere as his friend sang. "Thanks for my present, guys…"

When all the love feels gone, and you can't carry on,

Don't worry, 'cause, I'm 'a take it from here

Just as sure as the sun will shine, every morning, every time,

Don't worry, 'cause, I'm 'a take it from here…

Joey hopped off the stage and strode to Yugi. He bent down on one knee, and watched his pal's face turn a deeper and brighter shade of crimson. The glittery shoujo bubbles made another cameo.

Give me one reason why we should not be leavin'

This world is so deceivin', the time is now…

Joey lifted his bashful object of affection's chin. All eyes were on the two, but Joey didn't seem to care.

Let's fly away speedin', through the Garden of Eden,

Where all the sweet and breathin' of love surrounds…

The singer gleefully returned to the stage, leaving Yugi abashed and being stared at by the audience.

When all the love feels gone, and you can't carry on,

Don't worry, 'cause, I'm 'a take it from here

Just as sure as the sun will shine, every morning, every time,

Don't worry, 'cause, I'm 'a take it from here…

Yugi's stomach wrenched, being fully aware of the people looking at and talking about him. However, he did occasionally look up at the dark blonde angel who had just professed love to him through song.

Love ain't always the way they write in books

See, there's the good guys and also heartbreak crooks

Your heart's the real one, just take a look inside,

Cause it's a colorful, illustrated guide…

A few seconds later, the song was over. To everyone except for the occasional homophobic and immature goofball in the crowd, the message was clear: Joey loved Yugi. He'd do anything for him. He'd even sing a pop track that no normal guy on the planet would even think about listening to for him. Joey traveled back to the table as he was granted cheers and applause.

Yugi's head hung down and a tear dropped from his eye.

"Oh… Yugi…" Joey sat next to him remorsefully. "I… I'm so sorry. I didn't mean to hurt you…"

"Th-that was so… embarrassing…" Yugi stammered, with his head still down. (It would've been more humiliating if he sang something like, "Baby Got Back", or "Rock Your Body" ["I'm gonna have you naked by the end of this song!"] XD) "But…" He then lifted his head up to Joey and beamed. "…Thank you. I really liked it. …I love you."

Joey was relieved to see Yugi crying tears of joy rather than pain. "I know you do. You know, I was embarrassed too, though I didn't show it… I had to humiliate ourselves together just to prove that I care about you." He caressed his cheek and took a hold of his hand.

"But… how did you know about my feelings…?"

"Well, besides the look in your beautiful eyes, and your super-sweet smile…" Joey began. "Yami confessed your feelings about me for you. That was before I had to save you." He hugged his new lover. "I know you're gonna kill me, or him… or even both of us when I say this, but… he made me read your diary when I was hypnotized so I could remember you. …And that's how I know. We kissed, too. I hope you don't mind…"

"I won't kill you, and of course I don't mind…" Yugi replied. "Even though he wasn't with me at the time, you still said that Yami was a part of me, so…"

"He basically is you…"

Yugi's heart pounded hard. "So… should I thank God for this moment… or Yami? …Or even the power of music?"

"All three," Joey answered. "But the real credit should go to the floor bump from Chapter 2. If I hadn't made fun of Tea for tripping on it, she wouldn't have kicked my bag, and the CD wouldn't have fallen out, and I wouldn't have gotten the idea to sing a song from it to you…"

"Maybe we should call you, 'Joey Timberlake'," Tea commented.

"Oh, shut up."

"Hey, this reminds me of the time that Joey sang in front of the whole class in junior high," Tristan interrupted. "He tried to sing 'Steal my Sunshine' by Len, but he thought the song's title was, 'Still Bisexual' (KissThisGuy.com reference-an archive of bungled lyrics), and it's funny 'cause now we know that Joey truly is bisexual! …I think."

"By the way, if either of you tell anyone of this incident, I will make your life a living hell, COMPLETE with fire and brimstone!!!" Joey threatened.

"That's enough," said Yugi.

"Okay…" Joey flashed a tender grin at him. Everyone else continued to watch the other acts. "Jeez, they should really get Simon in here…"

"Don't say that, Joey…" Yugi shot pleading amethyst eyes at his beloved. "…But, you were really good. I'm sorry that everyone else and I thought that you were gonna be bad…"

"It's all right…" Joey placed his strong hands on Yugi's shoulders. He half-closed his chocolate eyes and neared his almost adult face toward Yugi's baby-like features.

The timid teenage boy almost panicked. "Uh… Joey, what're you doing…?"

"Duh, I'm tryin' to kiss ya," he spoke impatiently. "We're lovers now. Isn't that what lovers do? Don't they kiss?"

"But…" Yugi whispered, with his cheeks a brilliant scarlet. "Everyone's gonna be looking… I don't want to be embarrassed again…"

"No one's looking at us," assured Joey. "They're watching the others on stage. And, remember, if you get mortified, then so will I…"
Yugi gulped and closed his eyes. He let Joey tilt his head, and their lips touched. Their tongues brushed against one another very briefly, and their mouths separated.

"…See? No one was watching," Joey, still extremely close to Yugi's face, gave him a butterfly kiss with his lengthy, gentle eyelashes.

"My first kiss…" Yugi breathed. "I really liked it. It was better than a dream… …Because, it's real…"

"You kiss like Yami… See, I told you you're the same person," Joey wrapped his arms around his small sized koibito once more. "Aishiteru, Yugi Mutou."

The young boy returned the embrace. "I love you, too, Joey Wheeler."

Joey and Yugi closed their eyes and kissed again. This time, it lasted much longer. They became completely unaware of the passage of time. The only thoughts that resided in their brains at that moment were of each other. The two deepened the lip-lock. Tongues danced passionately with each other. Yugi and Joey's arms cuddled their warm bodies and ran adoring hands through each other's hair.

"And the winner is… Joey Wheeler!"

The couple stopped making out and opened their eyes widely. The two lovebirds blushed like they've never blushed before as they noticed nosy eyes focusing on them and heard guffawing, hoots, whistles, and shouts of, "Get a room!".

"Well, I do keep my promises…" the winning contestant laughed nervously.

"You forgot about the prize because all you wanted to do was say you loved me…?" Yugi asked shyly.

"Yeah…" Hand in hand, they sheepishly walked to the stage claiming their money, which is worth nil compared to winning a person's heart.

No one had seen Yoshizuri backstage, sarcastically clapping to Joey's victory. 'You may be able to pay for your stay and my windows, but you are still in great debt for choosing a love other than me…'

---------------------------------------------------------------- -----------------------------------

YES!!!!!!!!! Finally! Our heroes are together! Hooray!!! Well, a little note about the song: I've messed the lyrics around a bit purposely and accidentally. For instance, I've deliberately changed "girl" to "cause" because changing that word to "boy" would be extremely awkward, especially in a shounen ai story. Lyrics are courtesy of Lyrics.com and Nsyncstudio.com, so if you see any other screw-ups, blame them.

Why did I do this? Well, upon hearing "Senorita" for the first time thanks to my brother giving me "Justified" last Christmas, I've noticed the lyric, "bright brown eyes" and at that time, I started to have a massive crush on Yugi/Yami (almost as bad as James, my Team Rocket hero!) and I wanted to write a song like that about his bright violet eyes. :) I've considered doing other JT pieces like, "Nothin' Else" and even some non-Justin-related work like, "I Knew I Loved You" by Savage Garden and "All my Life" by KC and Jojo. But, I chose "Take it From Here" because it's now my favorite song, and it relates to how Joey would treat Yugi if they ever really got into a relationship… Wait, he treats him like that right now! ^_^ Huh? What's that sound…?

*Turns around and sees an angry mob of goths, punks, and various pop-haters (mostly male!)* Oh great. I knew this would happen… *runs* Uh, please don't hurt me! I'm nothing like the awful, juvenile stereotypical Justin Timberlake fan you speak of!

*Angry mob of preps come running after author* Ah, great. Now everyone's after me!

*Angry mob of everyone comes running after author* OH, NOOOOOO!!!!!! *author continues running until she reaches the edge of a cliff* Oh, great. What a dilemma! Mob? Cliff? Mob? Cliff? Mob? Cliff? Mob? *Author makes decision before angry mob comes after her* I choose cliff! *Jumps* YAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAH!!!!!!!!!!!!!! SEE YOU CHAPTER 6…!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! *Thud*

*After she lands, the author meets a very familiar, blond Aquarius former N'sync member*

Justin: I feel your pain…

O_o

Oh, and by the way, I am NOT sorry I put the song in! >D

Good Night… For Now… ^_~
