Ch.2: Puzzles and Memories

Both of them held their box very carefully, as if it were to shatter to pieces. When they opened the boxes, it revealed puzzle pieces. Yugi's were as gold as the box and Kia was the same with silver. But the only difference between these pieces is their size. Yugi's were big enough to fit in the palm of your hand, while Kia's were the size of a thumb nail.

-Yugi's POV-
I looked at my Millennium Puzzle and started working on it. I got this puzzle eight years ago as a gift from Grandpa. Ever since then, and I know it sounds strange, but I became sort of attached to it, for some odd reason. And a lot of times, when I'm completely alone, I would talk to it. I looked over at Kia and remembered, just a month ago, when she transphered to our school.

*Flashback: Normal POV*
It was a sunny Monday morning, and everyone was at his or her classrooms, talking about their weekend. Everyone hushed when the teacher came in. “Good morning class.” The teacher called out. “Morning Mr. Ballad.” The class responded. “Today class, we are very fortunate to have a new transphere student from America.” With that brief information, the students start to murmur, but halted when Mr. Ballad summoned a small girl from behind the door. “Everyone, please give your attention to, Miss Moonshadow, Kia.” Kia stood at the front of the classroom. Shyness was written all over her petite features. “Any questions for Miss Moonshadow?” The teacher asked the class. One hand went up. “Yes, Mr. Ishtar.” The teacher pointed out to Malik.

“In what part of America do you live?” Malik asked.

“Oceanside, California.” Kia responded, which caused another wave of murmurs from the students. “Alright, alright, settle down!” Mr. Ballad said firmly. “Now lets see…” The teacher looked at the seating chart. “Miss Moonshadow, you will sit in the back with Mr. Muoto.” (A/N: Spelled right?) The teacher said as he pointed out her spot. She walked over and saw Yugi. “Hi. I'm Yugi, it's nice to meet you.” Yugi said cheerfully, which made her smile. “It's nice to meet you too.” Kia said as she sat down at her seat.

At lunch period, Yugi and Kia sat outside under a tree with two other boys, Ryou and Malik. “So, how long have you been in Domino?” Ryou asked.

“Only a week.” Kia answered.

“Do you know your way around?” Yugi asked as he bit into his sandwich. “A little.” She responded.

Before anyone asked anymore questions, “ `Ey guys!” The four heard someone approaching them. “Hey Jou.” Yugi said. Jou is about the same height as Ryou and Malik, with blonde hair, and honey-hazle eyes. “Hey Yug, what's happen'n?” Jou said amusement in his voice. “We have a new student from California.” Yugi said as he mentioned toward Kia. Jou looked over to her. “Yo, name's Jou and you are?” He asked while she smiled at his antics. “My name is Kia Moonshadow, its nice to meet you.”

“ Uh, yeah, back at cha'” Jou said.

“Where have you been lately Jou?” Ryou asked. Before Jou could answer, Malik cut in.

“You mean what has he been doing lately.” He said and laughed his ass off when he saw Jou's face turn beet red. Just when Jou was about to counter, someone came from behind the trees. The stranger is a bit taller than Jou, with brunette hair and cold, colbat eyes.
“What are you doing mutt.” The stranger said coolly. Jou, on the other hand, looked pissed off.

“HOW MANY TIMES DO I HAVE TO TELL YA TO QUIT CALL'N ME THAT, KAIBA!!!”

Everyone, except Kaiba, looked at Jou, in shock. Kaiba walked up to Jou. “As many times as I like, mutt.” Kaiba answered. Before Jou gave another outburst, Kaiba took this opportunity and thrust his lips onto Jou's.

The three out of the four witnesses looked at the site in utter shock. Not about Kaiba's hastey move, but what Kia would think.

`Damnit Kaiba! Not here!” Malik thought as he looked over at her. But to his surprise, Kia didn't show any signs of disgust or anything like that. He looked over to the other two, who have the same reaction as he does. They were about to ask her, but the bell rang its horrid chime.

“I have to go back to my company.” Kaiba said after they parted, which made Jou growl of not having lunch period to be a bit longer. The CEO then smiled mischievously. “But I'll see you tonight, right mutt.” He said as he slapped Jou's ass, which made the blonde blush uncontrollably. When that was over they all went inside the building.

After school, the four were walking trough Domino Park, when Yugi spoke up. “Uhm, sorry about what happened at lunch.” Kia tilted her head, looking confused. “Why?” She said, making the three confused. “You don't mind about it?” Ryou asked astonished. “Why should I? If love is such a crime, then there would be so many people in prison by now.” She said with a small smile on her face. They looked at her while she continued to walk on ahead, until the game shop was in view.

“You have a Millennium Puzzle as well!” Yugi exclaimed after Ryou and Malik left. Kia absent-mindedly took out the box that held the silver pieces.

“Millennium Puzzle?” She said, unsure of what he meant. Yugi took out his puzzle and explained everything that his grandfather told him.

“Wow! Is it true, that these puzzles hold some kind of power?” She asked, amazed that there's more to the puzzle then meets the eye.

“I'm not sure, but if it does, I hope it would grant wishes.” Yugi said, as he became dazed.
*End of Flashback*

“Yugi? Yugi?” Kia noticed him being dazed. “Hello! Earth to Yugi Muoto!” She said, snapping her fingers to get him back to wherever he is. When he snapped back to reality, he didn't know what happened. “Welcome back to reality. Sorry to disturb you.” She said with a teasing smile.

-Yugi's POV-
I looked at her and sighed. “It's okay.” Kia looked worried but I reassured her with a smile. I looked at the clock and realized that Kia's grandma would be here in a few minutes. Kia noticed this and quickly gathered her stuff.
Few minutes later, Grandpa came in and said that Kia's grandma is here.

“See you at school tomorrow then, bye.” She said as she went downstairs to meet up with her grandmother.

“Bye.” I called and I went to my room.

-Normal POV-
Yugi is dressed in his light-blue p.j.'s and about to go to bed, but decided to work on his puzzle a bit more.
