Ch.22: Atemu's Day (pt1): Game Shop

Three days later, Yugi was up bright and early getting in his school uniform.

~Flashback~
Two days earlier, there was a phone call that said that Yugi would return to school on Monday. He explained to Atemu about the schedule when he goes to school. The other didn't like the idea of staying in the shop for so many hours.

“When do you get back?” Atemu asked as he dried the dishes, while Yugi washed.

“School lets a little after two, so around three, three-thirtyish.” Yugi said as he handed the last rinsed dish for the other to dry.

“That long.” He said with some annoyance in his tone.

“Yeah, but the good news is that I only have a few weeks until summer vacation starts.” Yugi said, eyes shining at the mere thought of their summer trip. “And you, me, and everyone else will be on our way to Hawaii.”
~End of Flashback~

Yugi finished brushing his teeth and headed downstairs, where his grandpa already prepared his breakfast. After finishing, he went back upstairs and entered his room, only to see Atemu still asleep. He quietly walked over and lightly shook the other, who slowly fluttered his eyes open, and looked over to him.

“Morning Aibou.” Atemu said as he stretched out his arms.

“Morning Atemu.” Yugi said with a smile.

“Going already?” Atemu looked at the small teen.

“Yep.” Yugi said. “But I just want to let you know before I go.” He placed the puzzle around his neck.

“The game shop won't be the same without you.” Atemu said, a bit confused about what he just said.

Yugi laughed then looked over at the former pharaoh. “Don't worry.” He said. “The day will go by fast and I'll be home before you know it.”

“Yugi! You better leave now or you'll be late!” Grandpa shouted from the bottom step.

“Okay Grandpa.” Yugi called back.

He hugged the other, who didn't expect that, and ran out.

“See you later Atemu!” He said before he went out of the room, but didn't stop for a response. “See you later Grandpa!” He said to his grandfather before he dashed out of the game shop doors.

“Have a good day Yugi.” The elder Mouto called just before the teen was out of site.

~1 hour later~
Atemu sat behind the glass counter for what seemed like forever. He sighed and leaned back in the chair.

`This is so boring.' He thought as he stared at the ceiling then at the clock, which read 8:45. `I wonder how Yugi is doing at school?'

“Atemu!”

At the sound of his name, he almost fell backwards on the chair.

“Oh, sorry about that.” Grandpa said as he came around the corner.

Atemu looked annoyed at first, but soften. “It's alright Mr.Mouto.” He said as he straighten himself up. “You want me for something?”

“First off, you could call me either Solomon or Jii-chan. Secondly, I want you to deliver this package.” Grandpa said as he handed a small, brown package to him. “Could you deliver this package over at the university, which is next to the museum, you got all that?”

Atemu nodded, which made Grandpa laugh.

“You don't have to be serious all the time you know!” He said as he patted his back. “Oh and one more thing.” He held up a cloth-covered box. “Yugi forgot his lunch today, so on your way there could you give it to him?” Atemu nodded again. “I'll let you go at around… ten til' ten. Oh I better check those stocks now.” He disappeared around the corner.

`How come he wants me to give Yugi his lunch?' Atemu thought as he looked at the light blue cloth that covered the lunch box.

-Atemu's POV-
I sat behind the glass counter, bored out of my mind; it's amazing that I haven't gone insane yet. I smiled as I remembered, back in Khement, when I first met Marik and Bakura.
~Flashback~
I was walking down the dungeon to see the two captured thieves, who were wanted for so many crimes and my people feared to go outside, even in daylight, while they run amock. I wasn't even close to their cell, but the shouting made it seem that way. When I did reach their cell, as I entered, they didn't notice me. I looked over to the once known King of Thieves, Bakura, eyes closed as though he were asleep, then I looked over to the one that was shouting, Marik, who seemed to be one of Bakura's men. They were ten feet away from each other, and the wrist chained both over their heads.

Marik's shouting were getting on my nerves, I looked around to see if I could get him to be quiet and pay attention, then a pail of water came into view in the dark, damped cell. I grabbed the pail and threw some at him, who coughed some water out and looked over to me as he glared.

“WHAT THE HELL WAS THAT FOR!!” He shouted.

“Would you please quiet down, so I could talk to both of you.” I said not wanting to answer his question.

“Why, in the living hell, should I listen to a pharaoh?” He said as Bakura looked up and also glared, which I expected much from these two.

“Because this pharaoh is going to give you a choice.” I said with a smirk as the two looked at each other, then back to me.

“What game are you playing?” Bakura said in a low serious voice.

“I'm not playing.” I said as I glared at him. “I just wanted to give you a choice which will decide your fate.”

Both of them were silent for a long moment.

“What are your, so-called, choices, Pharaoh?” Marik said as curiosity was written on his face.

“One, you could give up quietly and accept your execution.” I said as I looked at the two, who had blank expressions. “Or two, you would suck in your pride and I will spare your lives, in return, both of you would work at the palace. Which would you choose?”

I waited for their response for a while, until I heard both of them sigh in defeat.

“When do we start?” Bakura said, looking a bit disgusted at himself.

“Both of you will start in the morning.” I said with the feeling of accomplishment. “I'll let my cousin, Priest Seto, show you your duties.” I turn by the heel and walked out of the cell.
~End of Flashback~

I came back to reality when I heard someone laughing outside the shop. I saw a young couple, who were laughing about something, I didn't care. They stopped in front of the game shop, giving me a clear sight of what they're doing; like a movie.

The tall male had something in his pocket and brought it out, it was a small, white box. He opened it up and the girl looked surprised as he grabbed what was in the box. He held up a necklace, that has a silver chain; much more delicate then the huge ones that Yugi had picked out for the puzzle. I squinted my eyes to see to make out the dangling object on the necklace, which was half of a heart. The male held up his wrist, which was a silver bracelet with the other half of the heart on it. He then placed the necklace around the girl's neck, when he was done, she quickly wrapped her arms around him as he embraced her, then they walked off.

I couldn't help but feel… envious, while watching the couple being so… happy. I frowned as I leaned back in the chair and looked at the clock, which read 9:35. I got up from the chair, grabbed the boxes, and walked over to where Solomon is.

I found him, looking through the boxes of cards and other stuff.

“I'm leaving now!” I said as he looked over.

“Alright Atemu, be careful.” He said as I walked out the door.
