Chapter six: Raiders!

Yugi slowly opened his eyes. His head was throbbing. When he reached there with his hand he felt a big bump starting to form. Oh what happened? Oh yeah there were men on horses and then everything went black. They must've knocked me out! I wonder where I am? Yugi was ripped out of his thought by someone grumbling next to him. It was Ryu. Apparently he too had been knocked out. “Ow my head, it feels like I've been run over by a truck! Yugi are you okay?” “Yeah are you?” “Yes” Yugi was glad that Ryu was okay. He wouldn't want one of his best friends to be hurt. When he looked around he noticed they were in a tent of some kind. He could also hear voices outside.

“What are we going to do with those little runts?” The first voice a man said.

“What? You don't know? We're going to hold them for ransom of course! They had quite some valuable items with them so their parents must be rich! So we'll send them a note saying if they ever want to see them again they'll have to pay us one million Liras!” The second voice, also a man but older by the sound of it, answered.

Oh! This does not bode well. Yugi thought. Grandpa isn't home he was supposed to visit Professor Hawkins in America again. Ryu's father isn't home either. What if they don't get an answer from them? Lucky or unlucky for Yugi the first man outside just asked the same question.

“What if they don't answer? How long do you want to keep them alive?”

“If we don't receive an answer in ten days we'll just kill them. If I'm not fed up with them sooner that is! Just make sure the tent is guarded ok?”

“Yes sir!”

After hearing this Yugi knew they weren't in good company. They had to get away or they would be killed! “Ryu we have to get out of here now!” “Yes I'd like to live longer than today you know!” With that said he got up. Well partially up. When they were half way up they were yanked down by something. After looking at it they saw it were shackles. The shackles were secured at a pole of massif wood in the centre of the tent and the other end was secured on one of their wrists. It proved it wasn't going to be easy to escape. The raiders had made sure they couldn't.

One of the guards entered the tent and looked them over once before he cautiously removed one end of the shackles, the one tied to Ryu. Then he grabbed Ryu by the elbow and roughly pulled him up-(wards?) and threw him over his shoulder.

“H-hey! Let me go, you… scumbag!” Ryu tried to resist but struggling proved to be futile. The man had him in a tight grip. Escaping seemed impossible. And even if he did manage to get loose, he doubted he could take on this man, let alone the rest of the camp, unarmed.

“What are you going to do with Ryu?” Yugi said, trying to get up but failing. (Of course)

“None of your business, chibi. Or else…”

And so all that Yugi could do was watch as his best friend was dragged away by this brute of a man.

The man walked towards another, though slightly larger tent; the tent occupied by the leader of the gang himself and his second in command. Like a big sack of hay Ryu unceremoniously got dumped on the floor.

Wincing, Ryu looked up to glare at the man who had caused all his discomfort.
But the man in question seemed unfazed by the heated stare and returned it with an arrogant sneer.

“You can probably guess why you're here-“The man held his passport open and read out loud. “-Ryu Bakura.”

“I sort of couldn't help but notice the valuable objects you had with you and it makes me wonder what other objects of value you might have.”

“None.” Ryu said, earning himself a slap in the face.

“Don't get smart with me, kid. Or else you'll find yourself in a lot more pain than a mere slap in the face.”

This made Ryu gulp. He didn't enjoy a slap in the face let alone what else that brute might have in store for him…

He felt like he had been waiting for half an hour now, but it was only twenty minutes since that man came and took Ryu away. After that nothing had happened. Even the man talking in front of the tent had left leaving Yugi bored.

But that ended rather quickly as the tent was opened and someone was shoved in. Yugi's eyes widened as he saw Ryu fall on the floor. Ryu didn't look so good. His face was covered in bruises and he sported a black eye. He also had a nose bleed. His shirt was ripped and various cuts were visible through the torn fabric. After the man threw him down Ryu didn't make an attempt to move showing that he was probably unconscious. After the man left Yugi made an attempt to wake Ryu up. He crawled to his side and shook him a couple of times. This didn't help at all. All Ryu did was mumble something and turn around.

You wonder why Ryu didn't wake up? Here's your answer. When they were interrogating him Ryu refused to give up any information until he was unconscious. Right now he had no pain. Someone was trying to wake him up. He didn't want to because when he woke up the pain would be back. Perhaps if he turned around they would stop and allow him to enjoy these pain free moments.

It was late in the evening when Ryu finally woke up. Ooh my head hurts….and the rest of my body too. What happened again? Oh yes they interrogated me about treasures and I refused to tell them. Why oh why can't I be this stubborn against Bakura but I can against a total stranger. If Bakura asks me something I have to answer somehow but I guess I'm more stubborn than I thought against strangers. Just my luck! I wonder where Yugi is? After looking the tent over Ryu discovered Yugi in a corner of the tent. When he looked closer he gasped. Yugi's clothes where cut and he had bruises and cuts all over his face. He looked even worse then Ryu did when he was brought back. He carefully shook Yugi. After a couple of attempts Yugi woke up. He told Ryu that after they brought him back they left and Yugi thought they would stay away. After twenty five minutes another thug came in and took Yugi to the same man they had brought Ryu to see. He was also interrogated about treasures but didn't tell a thing. He didn't remember a thing after passing out until Ryu woke him up. The next day their injuries were slightly better.

It was in the middle of the day when the same man that took Ryu away re-entered the tent and undid their shackles. They were led to the tent of the leader. Just like the day before a big sneer was plastered on his face.

“I've send the ransom note's to the addresses in your passports. If I don't receive a reply in five days you're dead! Until then you'll be moved to a place where we can keep a better eye on you.”

After that they were rudely shoved out of the tent and brought to yet another tent. It was really small and located directly next to the leader's tent. There was a long metal pole in the middle of the tent which also had a couple of shackles. After they were secured around their wrists the men left the tent. Not long after that a commotion could be heard.

“Move the group in that tent!” a voice they recognized as the leader's boomed.

“Yes sir!” the voice of the second in command said.

After two more minutes the camp was silent once more. “What was that all about?” Yugi asked. “By the sounds of it they've captured a few other people.” After that neither said a word both boys in their own thoughts.

Early in the evening things got even worse. Both boys were brought in front of the leader again. “The group we now have has a lot more valuables and is more willing to cooperate so we're just going to kill you.” And with that all the raiders present pulled out their knives and advanced on the defenceless boys. After that a scream could be heard. Yugi clutched his arm covering the new cut. After that another couple of screams came but this time from outside the tent. There appeared to be something happening in the camp. “Hurry up and kill them” the boss said they raised their knives and then all was quiet…..

Alright! He was on guard duty. This meant he could steal some items in the tent. Those boys wouldn't have any use for them anyway in fifteen minutes or so. Hedjem was very pleased with himself. Whenever he was on guard duty for the tent with confiscated artefacts he could always grab a few, after all they wouldn't miss two items in a tent full items now would they? And right now he wanted the items from those boys. He went inside the tent. In the tent were baskets with ruby's, Sapphire's and gold. There were also lots of baskets filled with money and a lot of golden and silver items scattered all around the tent. Hedjem went in and looked around. Where did they hide those items again? It took him a while but he eventually found them. Ah there they are. Let's see…I'll put the ring around my neck and hide the puzzle in my pocket. Unknowingly he had just made a grave mistake. Right after he put the ring around his neck it glowed and his appearance changed. A sneer appeared on his face and a voice not belonging to him said “Finally! I really hate it to be stuck in that ring Ryu and you know it. “ After looking down Bakura soon discovered he was not in Ryu's body but that of a stranger… But if he was here then where was Ryu? Suddenly he felt something sticking in his side. He grabbed the offending item out of the pocket of the robe and revealed the mill. Puzzle. So he wasn't the only one who was separated from his hikari….

After exiting the tent he heard a scream. After some thinking he registered it as Yugi's. Another scream could be heard. This voice definably Ryu's. Someone was hurting his hikari! He would not let them get away with that! He laughed and when someone came up to him to ask what he was laughing about he banished him to the shadow realm without a second thought. Suddenly another two men were screaming something around the line's of: ”A demon has possessed Hedjem!”, “He `s gone nuts!” and: “We're all going to die!” After banishing those inferior souls Bakura headed to the tent where he assumed the scream came from. He entered the tent and was shocked by what he saw. There were his and the pharaoh's hikari. They were in bad shape…covered in cuts and bruises and both sporting a deep gash that was still bleeding. There where a couple of raiders. They raised their knives for the final strike. Within two seconds they were banished to the shadow realm as well. After that he saw Ryu sitting there with his eyes squeezed shut and scared to dead. He remembered that, that was also how Ryu always was when he was around, be it in spirit form. He had always loved to see his hikari scared of him but now….Ryu didn't deserve to be that afraid of anyone. He was too kind and forgiving for that. Bakura was glad he changed because now he could see the lovely smile his hikari had… He put the puzzle around Yugi's neck and the ring around Ryu's.

Why wasn't he feeling pain? Was he already dead? Ryu was too afraid to open his eyes to look. He stayed that way until he felt something being slipped around his neck and the familiar presence of Bakura was back. Carefully he opened one eye and when he saw no danger the other. Relieved he told Yugi to open his eyes because everything was alright. Right after that two flashes could be seen and Yami and Bakura were in control. However after one look at the pharaoh he wished he wasn't. Yami's look spelled one thing: Revenge for hurting Yugi! An aura of shadow magic could be seen around him. This did not bode well for the remaining raiders. Right now even Bakura was scared of Yami.

Yami turned his head to Bakura. “Come on let's go.” He said sounding quite calm but with the millennium symbol shining brightly on his forehead. “Its payback time, they'll pay for hurting Yugi.” He walked out of the tent. The camp was in chaos. After Bakura had banished the first raiders the other prisoners where escaped and getting away with the remaining raiders trying to catch them. At the site of Yami and Bakura exiting the tent they focused their attention on them. This was a bad idea. Yami summoned his Dark Magician. “Kill them!”: a smirk appeared on his face: “But make them suffer greatly for hurting Yugi first.” Yami heard a gasp on his left side. “What tomb robber you disagree? Well they earned it! Now you'll see what happens when you get the pharaoh angry!” Bakura looked away. After gasping at Yami's comment of “making them suffer” Yami had scolded him. It was probably best to stay quiet. But still he only gasped! And he had a right to! This was so un-yami like! He reminded himself to NEVER ever piss the pharaoh of by hurting Yugi. Never. It didn't take the Dark Magician long to fulfil his masters wish. He had made the raiders suffer in an unimaginable way before sending them to the shadow realm for all eternity. After that Yami seemed to have cooled down. “So now what tomb robber?” he asked. “Let's get the camels and get out of here.” was Bakura's reply. With that they grabbed their camels and headed out into the desert again. Only now it was getting dark and they didn't know where to go….
