Chapter five: I really hate the desert!

It was the next morning and the sleepy town of Alhambra slowly started to wake up. In a small house on one of the corners a youth with spiky tri coloured hair opened his amethyst eyes and yawned. Yugi had slept all night like a log and wasn't feeling tired anymore. He was warm though. He looked around for anything indicating the temperature. Finally he found a thermometer telling him it was already 27°C outside. He went to his suitcase and looked for something to dress himself in. He opted for a white tank top like shirt and a pair of short blue pants. After that he went to the kitchen to make breakfast.

When Ryu finally woke up the sun was already high in the sky and the warmth was nearly unbearable. He dressed himself in a white t-shirt and a pair of short pants, his being really, really dark blue. (If you didn't look carefully you might have thought them to be black) They ate breakfast together and did the dishes. After that they went to the door and noticed a note on it. They must have missed it last night because they were too tired. It was from Ishizu.

Dear Yugi,

After your telephone call my item gave me a vision. There is a lot of danger to come. Your enemy is stronger than you think but I can't talk you out of it, can I? It also said that you would have great trouble finding a translator. I have arranged for one to meet you at eleven today. Please don't leave the house until then because you might get lost. Oh and tell Bakura that there aren't any treasures in that tomb. I've foreseen a lot of danger in it however. If you're not careful it could mean you're dead.

Best regards,

Ishizu.

Ryu and Yugi decided that it was probably best if they waited for the translator. They were glad that Ishizu's necklace worked again other wise they wouldn't have a translator now. At precisely eleven there was a knock on the door. When they opened it a tall man with black hair and a robe much like Ishizu's stood before them. He was very tanned showing that he was in the sun a lot of the time. “Good day sirs, my name is Hadjare, are you ready to go?” the man said with a deep voice. “Yes we are. My name is Yugi and this is Ryu” Yugi answered back. “Ok where would you like to go first? I know this town like the back of my hand.” Hadjare said. “Do you know where the best place is to gather information?” Ryu asked. “ “Sure you need to go to the market then. There is no place like there to gather information. So then, please follow me.” And with that they were off.

When they reached the market their mouths nearly fell open. Man for such a small town they had a really big market place! There were dozens of stalls standing at the edge of the town selling different things from jewellery to herbs. They were all neatly in a big circle. They followed Hadjare to the stalls. He started talking with the owners. “What is it exactly you wish to know?” he asked. !We need to know if there is anything strange going on, and if anyone knows where the discovered tomb is! Yami said to Yugi before Yugi could even start to think. /Ok if you're sure. / “We need to know if there is anything strange going on and if anyone knows where that expedition went that discovered the tomb” Yugi said. Hadjare started the conversation again but the owner didn't know anything. So they went of to the next stall.

In the mean time Sibuna was frantically searching trough his tomb. Where is it? It should be around here somewhere. He thought. If I don't find that blasted tablet my shadow powers will never reawaken and then I won't be able to defeat Atemui.(Right now he can only use the powers of the medallion) Man we should have made an agreement where he would hide the tablet. Now even I don't know where it is and this tomb is really big. Damn it all to hell!!

With that he continued his search for the tablet. Two hours later he found a wall that appeared to have a room behind it. When he destroyed the wall there was a corridor. He followed it and ended at a crossroad. He turned right and followed that corridor. There was a T crossing there. He turned left. After ten minutes he was completely lost. I must be on the right track. He must have hidden the tablet at the end of the maze. HE COULD HAVE LEFT INSTRUCTIONS FOR ME! HE IS LUCKY HE IS DEAD OR I WOULD HAVE KILLED HIM PERSONALLY!! He was never the brightest but this maze was a good idea I have to admit. After that he went on with his search.

It was hot. Yugi couldn't deny that. They were already on that marketplace for two hours now and weren't any closer to finding a peace of information. Hadjare was already talking with the owner of another stall and Ryu was casually walking past a couple of stalls that sold herbs and water. Yugi had to admit that he was thirsty. They had taken some water with him but it was already gone. He went to a stall and looked at he jewellery the owner sold. There were beautiful necklaces and rings. There were medallions and arm bracelets. !Yugi can I have the body for a moment? ! /Sure thing, you can have it for the rest of the afternoon. You lived here when you were pharaoh so you're probably a lot more tolerant to the heat then I am. / With that there was a flash from the millennium puzzle and Yami was in control. !Thanks Yugi. ! But Yugi didn't hear him because he was in his soul chamber playing a dual monster game on his GBA and winning. (Of course!) “Hadjare could you come over here please?” Yami yelled to Hadjare. He had seen a set of beautiful arm bracelet's and wanted to buy them for Yugi's birthday which was coming up very soon. The bracelets were made of pure gold with rubies incrusted in them. If you looked closer you could see that there were miniature rubies incrusted between the larger one's making the bracelet's sparkle. It also reminded him of the past in a way. After a minute Hadjare came running to him.

“What is it sir, can I help you?”

“Yes, I'd like to buy these” Yami said pointing to the arm bracelets.

“Ah good choice.” Hadjare said and started talking to the merchant. “These are his prized possession. There the most beautiful arm bracelet's he ever had. He says he'll sell them for ten thousand Liras.”(One Lira is 0, 02 cent)

“That isn't that much, ok I'll take them.” After they paid Yami walked away with Yugi's birthday present. After that they explored the rest of the village. Just when they were about to give up lady luck smiled at them. They came across a building with peculiar saddles and gear. There was a large corral in front of the house where at least twenty camels stood. “And here you can rent camels.” Hadjare was telling them. “Camels?” Yami asked. “And this is the only place you can rent them?” “Yes sir.” Hadjare answered. “Then perhaps the man who owns this place rented camels to the expedition. Then he can rent us some camels to and tell us where they went.” “Good idea Yami” Ryu said. “Yami, who is Yami?” Asked Hadjare. “Oh it's ….just a nickname Ryu has given me, it's nothing.” Yami quickly answered. Hadjare just shrugged and went to the owner of the place. After five minute's he came back. “He rented some camels to some men a couple of weeks ago. He said they went in the direction of the setting sun.” “Ok ten we'll have to rent a couple of camels ourselves and get going.” They rented two camels. The translator asked if they had any need of him because he was also familiar with the desert. They politely declined.(Well Yami did, Bakura who had taken over from Ryu didn't.) Bakura told them man that he knew the desert inside out. He had practically lived there. (Of course that was three thousand years ago but he still knew what he knew then)The owner didn't believe him. Bakura was about to banish him to the shadow realm when Yami came up with a solution. Why not test Bakura? If he knew the desert he would know the answers. After fifteen minutes they were on their way. Bakura had passed with flying colours. He knew the answers to all the man's questions. After that he had given them a test. They didn't do so very well and Bakura advised them to never go into the desert. This had taken five minutes. After that it had taken them ten minutes to buy the cape's Bakura insisted they wear. He said it would protect them in the desert. So now they were riding in the desert.

It was now two hours later and the sun was starting to set. The temperatures were also starting to drop. “Bakura shouldn't we find a place to camp soon?” Yami asked. “Not yet, we still have an hour or so of daylight left. After that we'll find a place to camp. What is it Yami, can't keep your camel under control? Or is your butt hurting since you probably only rode horses in the past.” Bakura mocked. This started a verbal fight between the two. Yami said that Bakura shouldn't mock him because he was just as good as Bakura if not better at riding a camel. Bakura would never admit it but Yami was right. He seemed to have a natural flair for it. Bakura still knew from ancient Egypt. After they stopped they made camp near a couple of rocks. It took them two hours to put their tent right. Wonder why? Let's just say a certain tomb robber forgot the stakes. They had to materialize a couple using their shadow powers. After that they warmed their dinner. Dinner consisted of cans of brown beans.(I don't know if that is handy in the desert or not, just stick with me ok?) Yugi and Ryu had taken over by then. They talked some and then went to bed.

“AAARGH! Stupid tomb robber!! Next time DON'T take cans of brown beans for dinner will you! Sheesh I'm suffocating!” After that Yami ran out of the tent followed by Bakura.

“Hey you smelled it first so you did it!”

“No I did not. I never fart unless I'm on the toilet! You did it you tomb robber with no manners!”

“Yeah right as if! I can hold them in perfectly! I could do it three thousand years ago and I can certainly do it now!”

(Anyone wondering what's going on? Well if you haven't guessed, it's now two past twelve in the night and someone was a little gassy…...)

Bakura and Yami kept bickering about whom it was that farted. After an hour the tent didn't stink anymore and they went back into it to get some more sleep.

The sun was rising again.

Two sleepy yami's came out of the tent. Wonder why they were sleepy? They woke up four more times because they kept farting. After that they partially opened a tent flap to let fresh air in and they slept until the sun rose again. They had breakfast and after that they saddled their camels and went on their way. The day went by uneventful. The night was uneventful too. This time they had beef instead of beans and had a good nights sleep. Another day past but they still didn't find the tomb. When they were on their third day something happened. The day started like the last two….

“OI BAKA PHARAOH, GET UP!”

“WHO ARE YOU CALLING A BAKA, TOMB ROBBER? AND I'M UP!!”

After that Yami made breakfast while Bakura was searching for some water. They still had enough for a week but in the desert that isn't much and they didn't know how long their journey would take. After an hour Bakura found a small oasis and got some water. But when he was well on his way back…

“OI TOMB ROBBER, BREAKFAST!!”

*KLONK!* “BAKA PHARAOH! DON'T YOU KNOW NOT TO YELL AT PEOPLE? NOW I DROPPED THE WATER!!”

“GET SOME NEW WATER AFTER BREAKFAST WILL YA? I'M THIRSTY!”

Bakura walked ahead al the while mumbling to himself: “I won't have to `cause you'll be dead by then I'll make sure of that. Guess you don't know how hard it is to find water in the desert.” After that he reached the camp. Yugi was already waiting a smile on his face. Bakura let Ryu take over before he would kill Yugi too. “So you heard Yami calling?” Yugi asked when Ryu sat down. “Yes Yugi along with the rest of the desert.” “Oh I already thought he was up to something when he said he would call you.” “What did he say exactly?” Ryu asked. “He said that since he had a louder voice he would call so you'd be able to hear it.” Yugi answered. “Oh well, he is partly right. But you can yell if you want too.” After that they laughed and ate their breakfast. While they ate breakfast they discussed if they were on the right road. The camel renter had said it was about one and a half to two day's to the tomb and it was already their third. Perhaps they had missed it? Ryu said that it was still their only lead. They agreed to turn around and go back the way they came. This time they would keep an even better eye out for the tomb. After two hours Yugi spotted a dust cloud approaching fast. When he told Ryu Bakura took over and yelled “Run!” However it was too late. The cloud which were actually men on horses and covered in cape's already reached them. Yugi couldn't even command his camel to run before everything went black…..

It was now past noon and still nothing could be seen except sand. However if you looked closely you could faintly hear a sound. The sound of…..laughter? Yes for in a tomb under the sand a man called Sibuna had just found what he was looking for… “YES, YES, YEEEEEEESSSSSSSS!! Finally I've found it! He had finally reached the end of the maze. And just like he thought the tablet was there. Now he had it he could awaken his shadow powers and he would be even harder to defeat. Only if the shadow powers of those wimps awakened could he be defeated and he would not allow that to happen, at any cost…….
