Yu-Gi-Oh! Fan Fiction ❯ Responsible decisions ❯ The equation ( Chapter 1 )

[ T - Teen: Not suitable for readers under 13 ]

Hello all. Hope you guys all had a productive and politically correct holiday season. I didn't get to writing anything new during my break, but I found this floating around in a note book and I liked it so here it is.

You could say that it's almost a sequel to "Side Stories" almost. But it's pretty self contained. There are only three characters! Some more are mentioned, but the grand total is three. Let's see, hmmm, anything you should know before you read…without saying it, Joey's in a new relationship with Mai. Joey's not happy with Mai…you can read it to find out. Uh…anything else…oh yeah. I don't own any of these characters, yadda yadda yadda. Also, there is a plot hole after the "Previously…" part. Believe it or not I have written the lemon for it but I lost the disk it was on. Needless to say that it was dirty and rough (common, it's Seto Kaiba and Joey we're talking about here!) Oh, that reminds me. This story is yaoi-y so this is you're second and last warning if you're all vanilla-e about such things. But don't worry, there isn't anything graphic in this fic…so far. I haven't decided. Hold on to you're hats, it gets very angsty…

Cheers,

Previously…

Joey heard a faint, familiar sound above the soupiness of his thoughts and the buzz of his computer. Instantly he recognised it as his telephone ringing and without looking away from the computer screen, he reached over and plucked it from its cradle.

"Hello?" He talked through the online game of "Mortal Combat" in front of him.

"Oh, hey Mai. What's up?…Oh yeah? Cool, wish I could do that…uh huh…Me? Nah, I'm playn' computer games….I'm winnin' though….I know, it's hard….heh heh….Whatever you say, princess. Okay, I will…oh wait, hold on Mai, I got another call comin' in….I know, but it might be for my dad. Hang on." Joey stared at the receiver briefly, looking for the right button. He found it and placed the phone back to his ear.

"Hello?" Instantly after he said it, he heard faint laughing on the only end.

"Check you email recently, dog?" the laughing voice spoke finally.

"Kaiba? Uh, no…hold on, I will." He held the phone to his ear with his shoulder as he clicked onto a new window and accessed his mailbox. He had one new message from (mokies_bro@hotmailer.com) , and it was a big file. He clicked on it and moments later a screen opened up as the attachment was loaded.

"What is this?" he asked nervously as his software buffered the file, which was obviously a video file.

"You'll see." Kaiba answered simply, holding back his malevolent excitement.

The file finally opened, and started to play. The background was dark and there was something pale moving around in the centre of the screen. Joey couldn't tell what it was until an unmistakable arm shot out of what looked like a moving pale blob, and grabbed the surface. Joey gasped as he recognised the blob as two people, one on top of another, making frantic love to each other. He also recognised the noises spilling out his speakers as two guys moaning and breathing heavily. He just stared for the moment and said nothing into his telephone. Suddenly he lurched forward in his seat. He recognised something about this scenario, and his fears were confirmed when he heard the distinctive sound of his own voice calling suddenly: "Oh, Se…Seto."

"What the hell! That's me and…Seto, where did you get this!?"

"I had it taped last night. You like?" Seto said, smooth as silk.

"I….uh," Joey stuttered. He didn't know what to say as he watched on, himself and his dark haired lover.

"I knew you would." Seto answered himself. "While we're on the subject, do you remember when I helped you this morning, and how you promised me a night? Well, it's pay time mutt."

A click of the phone ended that call. Joey lowered the receiver to his lap and collapsed back against his chair, breathing heavily. Now he was stuck having to indulge Seto, not that he didn't want to find out what was in store for him. He'd have to cancel any plans he had with Mai. "MAI!" he yelled as he pulled the phone back to his ear, activating her call again.

"Hello? Sorry Mai…"

"Oh, that's okay. Who was it?"

"It was uh…Yugi. He needs my help tonight, so I have'ta go, okay?"

"Okay…" Mai responded, confused but trusting. "I'll see you tomorrow?"

"Yeah, tomorrow. Later Mai."

"Bye…"

The next morning…

Joey finally got out of bed around eleven o'clock that morning. Only a few hours ago, Seto had dropped him back off at his empty house. There was no way in hell he was going to school that day, though Seto did. After his morning nap, the pain from the nights activities had subsided a little, but he still felt sore and sick. Seto had been rougher than ever before, when they were dating or not.

After showering and dressing down, Joey parked himself in front of his computer again. To his disappointment, he didn't have any new emails. He sighed, remembering the last one. His room was very dark and warm. Joey felt like a turtle, recovering in his shell. He decided to log into his instant messaging program to see if anyone was on, even though he knew that it was still school time. The moment he logged in, a window popped up asking him whether he would like to add (mokies_bro@hotmailer.com) to his buddy list. His tired mind could remember seeing that address before, but for some reason he didn't remember whose it was. He added whoever it was and almost immediately another window for a conversation opened. It was from "mokies_bro".

Okay brb

Joey fumbled for the switches to turn his software on. When he did, he opened a video window, and Seto's face appeared in it.

"Good morning, how do you feel?" Seto's voice greeted gently.

"Better. Where are you, I thought you were at school?"

"I am, I'm on a break."

"Oh," Joey didn't know what else to say. Silence followed. Joey felt nervous and judgmental, like he was assessing his lover to help make his decision.

"I know what you're thinking about." Seto said softly, his voice crackled slightly through Joey's speakers.

"You're confused because of me and that girl."

"Yeah," Joey paused, "Yeah, you're right.

"I know." Seto said. "I know that you want me for physical reasons," Joey giggled at that. "I also know that you want her for softer, mushier reasons. You like her don't you."

"I do, but I'm not sure it's her I really want anymore. Ever since you uh, you…"

"I showed you my softer, mushier side."

"Yeah. Plus there's the whole gay vs. straight thing. Tristan's straight as an arrow, Yugi's not, what am I?"

"It would be easier, being with her. However, I think, even if you don't miss me specifically, you'll miss guys. Whether you proclaim yourself straight or not." Seto mussed.

"Like a dog that tastes blood." Joey responded slowly.

"Exactly. And you, my puppy, have tasted my blood on more than one occasion."

"It wasn't your blood that drove me wild, Seto." Joey said with a sexy smile.

"Never the less, I knew the first night you came back to me, you couldn't go back to her. You'll never be happy with just her, that's why you cheated."

"Oh my God! I did cheat. I never even thought about it, but I did. It all seemed so right at the time. Now I feel horrible. Even if I do end up with you, how will I tell her!? I am so screwed!"

"I agree with you there. You are screwed. But this was necessary, in finding yourself."

"You talk like I've already chosen you."

Seto smiled evilly. "I think you already have. How can you deny your desires now? Now that you've experienced them. You can't. Moreover, you're forgetting an important detail: What about me, and her? Does she love you? I do, you know that now. Do you love me? You said you did, what about her? This isn't just about your needs, and your wants."

"Seto, I've never heard you talk that this. From my point of you, both you and Mai would be fine without me."

"Wow, you're less conceited than I thought. Listen to me Joey, I don't know about her, but I need you. I don't want anyone else, and I couldn't replace you."

"Really?"

"Really. You're just what I want, smart, sweet, sexy, loyal…"

"I don't know about the loyal part."

"I'm not counting that. My point is that you are special to me. You're my puppy whom I love."

"I love you to. That's why I came back to you in the first place. We're both hungry, and we feed each other. But physical love alone isn't enough. I need emotional love to."

"Do you still want her to love you?"

"I don't know. When you told me this morning, everything changed. I started thinking about how I was to break up with her."

"So you've chosen?"

"It's not about choice anymore. It's about courage."

"Courage?"

"Yeah, the courage to follow my heart instead of my screwed up head. My heart, Seto, is yearning strongly for you, but I'm scared. What if this…us, is wrong. What if in a week we fall apart and Mai won't take me back. I wouldn't if I were her. I'd have blown what I've been working for, for 2 years."

"You've liked her longer than me?"

"Nah, I've had a thing for you forever. Even before I knew what it meant."

"But not as strong as Mai?"

"In different ways, I guess. I didn't recognise my feelings for you right away. I mean, you're this rich, evil guy who owns a huge company and is worth billions of dollars. You're so distant and aloof. As I got older, I realised that I did have feelings for you. It came slowly and I went through a period of denial. But I accept it now, and obviously embrace it."

"Literally. What about her?"

"Mai? First of all, she's gorgeous right? Confident and glamorous. She hit me like a wave the first day on the boat. I was like, 16, it was all I thought about."

"Girls?" Seto smiled.

"Mmhmm. Give me a break. I guess she kinda carried over into my confusion period."

Seto didn't answer for a minute. Joey saw that he was uncomfortable.

"Did you break up with me because of her?"

"No. Well, kinda. You scared me Seto, you showed me a life full of wild delight, one that I wanted desperately. It wasn't peer pressure, but I was scared of my feelings for you. I needed something more stable I guess, something I could lean on while I learned about myself. I didn't want a false love, I wanted my love. I needed to be sure."

"You thought I was influencing you?"

"I blamed a lot of things on you Seto. It wasn't your fault though, of course. I didn't' want a rebound after you, so I waited. I was still sorta chasing Mai, and thinking of you. I was completely confused. Yugi helped me with that. I felt, and I still feel so strongly bonded with him."

Seto snorted.

"But not romantically. Not anymore. I think, by sleeping with each other, we helped each other through our problems. He's with Yami now you know."

"I wondered when he would be."

"Yeah, they're meant to be. After Yugi, I jumped around between guys and girls, non of important and they didn't help at all. I missed you terribly, but I couldn't bring myself to admit that I might have been wrong."

"You still can't, can you?"

"Actually, I was wrong. Wrong to think I could just forget about you."

"That's right. I told you, didn't I."

"You did. You weighed in my mind every time I was intimate with someone. So I stopped. I dropped everyone but my friends. Now love, no sex, nothing, and it worked. I didn't think of you anymore."

"Then she came?"

"Yup, I was so excited at first, something normal I could hang on to. I liked her, she's a great girl. I thought it would be different. But the moment I got back into the cycle, you haunted my dreams, my kisses, and my life again. Truthfully, the night I came back to you, I was so horny for you, I blew off Mai."

"You blew her off for me?"

"Yeah, she was like, on top of me and I said I wasn't ready. I rejected her advances. Weird, huh?"

"That doesn't sound like you." Seto laughed. "So you tried to break away from me, you couldn't. You came back. Sounds like you're surrendering."

"I am, I guess. I guess I don't have much of a choice. You're going to haunt me until I surrender completely."

"Does this mean you choose me then?"

"Yes Seto, I think it does. Thank you for listening."

"You're welcome. I'm glad I could finally help you with something noble."

"I love you."

"I love you to, mutt."

They laughed together.

"Are you ever going to stop calling me a dog?"

"Nope, besides, you like it."

"I do…now that I know what it really means to be your dog."

Well? Questions? Queries? Rude comments politely phrased?

I know this chapter is very long and full of dialog. DON'T FLAME ME FOR THE DIALOG! Most of it they're talking on a phone or over the Internet, I gave what description I could. "His computer hummed with anticipation." Or, "A cool breeze could be felt as he said this." I don't think so. The next chapter, and there is one, will have more person to person contact (Not that kind of contact you perverts, get your minds out of the gutter) and more conflict. Conflict good!

Okay, here's my cliff hanger to keep you interested (ahem):

Joey's finally got something straight, but what will he do about Mai, and how will his friends take his new allegiance. Or will they even notice?! I don't think Yugi will if you've read "Side Stories." What will Mai say when she finds out? Oh well, there are plenty of fish in the sea Mai. You'll rack in some old, rich geezer sooner or later. ! !
