Chapter 6: Plots
Time passed and she didn't move from that spot. Eventually, Seto walked out and found her, cold, and asleep. He shook her unceremoniously and held her up.
"Niaka? Why are you still here?" he demanded.
"Huh? What the-oh ****!" Niaka muttered.
"Niaka! You are a priestess, not a common layabout! Watch your language!" he scolded her.
"Sorry..." she replied, still not fully awake.
"Go back to the temple you came from and get some rest. The Pharaoh's garden is not a place for resting-"
"It depends who it's resting. Not the actual place. And why are you still holding her, Seto?" Yami had arrived.
"No reason." Seto released Niaka and backed off. Yami nodded once, and motioned that he and Niaka should be left alone. Seto backed away and left the area. Yami turned to Niaka.
"You alright?"
"Yes, I'm fine. Thanks for asking."
"Um, listen. I'm sorry about what happened earlier. I just got outside of myself, that's all."
"Don't worry. I feel the same way. It's just that I'm not ready for that yet. Besides, I'm a priestess. I'm supposed to be pure and untouched by anyone. Nothing against you of course, it's just... Law."
"If you wanted, I could change the Law-"
"It's been the Law since the day of your forebears. I doubt you could change it with out arising suspicion."
Yami bowed his head.
"I'm sorry you feel this way. I guess the only way to convince you is to get you to break a sacred Law of the Temple so that they would dismiss you as a servant-"
"YAMI! How could you? You know that the Temple means everything to me! It's been my home, my work and my existence! I could never break a Law of the Temple if I tried. Goodbye Yami. I cannot love a man who would put his own pleasure in front of his love's life and vows." Niaka stormed out of the garden, evading Yami's attempts to stop her.
As soon as she was out of the garden boundaries, Niaka ran all the way back to the Temple. She walked as fast as she could to her room, then threw herself on to the bed. She sobbed quietly until she had no more tears left. How could Yami be so thoughtless? How could he be so selfish? He was the Pharaoh. He was allowed to be. She buried her head in the pillow and fell into a restless sleep.
When she woke, it was darker than it had been when she fell asleep. She got up silently and crept outside It was two in the morning at least.
She walked through deserted alleyways and murky doorways. It was creepily silent. She heard mutterings, a man and a woman arguing with eachother, a child talking in his sleep and... a dark, cold voice.
"You know the drill. I want you to infiltrate the palace as a tradesman and offer goods that no-one else has. You will go into the Pharaoh's chamber and close the door. Then you will kill him and exit through the window. I'll be waiting for you there. Understand?"
"Yes, but-"
"But what?" the cold voice was tinged with a silent warning.
"But what if they don't believe me? What if someone is-"
"Hush! Someone's outside. Hide now. Don't move." The cold-voiced person moved quietly to the window. He waited a second, then...
"Gotcha!" Niaka was thrown on to the floor. Two shadows shaded out the lamplight.
"So what do we have here?" Niaka stood up slowly and painfully, only to be pushed back down.
"Well well well, if it isn't the priestess Niaka. What are you doing out of bed, young girl?" Niaka looked up at her captors.
"Bakura?!? Why are you here?"
"I'm asking you the same question Niaka. Answer it. Now." Bakura's voice was low and menacing. Niaka knew better than to object.
"I couldn't sleep, so I went outside for a walk. I got lost and then-"
"I want the truth, Niaka. You know better than to withhold that. Girl tell me the truth before I get angry."
"I'm telling you the truth. I couldn't sleep, I went outside for a walk, I got lost then I heard you telling someone to do... something. I can't remember what exactly..." Niaka broke off. Bakura was looking at her with barely kept control. His lips twitched. Suddenly, he grabbed her and held her within an inch of his face.
"If you're telling me a lie..."
"Boss," The other person had come out of his hiding-place. "Just leave her be. We've got more important things to worry about. I mean-"
"Quiet! I'm keeping her here. She knows what happened to Mari. Anyway, I seem to remember telling her that I'd be coming to get something from her, and I keep my promises. Well," he smirked, "Most of them." Niaka gave an involuntary shudder.
"Orocin, go back to your home. I want to be alone." Orocin left and Niaka tried to slip out of the door unnoticed. Bakura gripped her wrist and pulled her back towards him.
"Where do you think you're going?" he hissed.
"Out of here?"
"No Niaka. You're not leaving her till I get an account of Mari. Tell me."
"Fine! Mari was in the crowd that was waiting for the Pharaoh to come out of the temple. When he came out, she threw a rock at him. It missed him by inches. She then drew a dagger and threw herself at the Pharaoh. She intercepted someone and struggled with that someone. She lost and raked her opponent's cheek. The guards held her but she slid her dagger between her ribs. Happy now?"
"Strange how the person who stopped her had a cut on her cheek just like yours-or are you hiding something again?" Bakura pinned her against the wall and ran his finger lightly over the scar on her cheek. Niaka shuddered.
"I'm not afraid of you, Bakura."
"Well maybe you should be. You tremble a lot for someone who doesnt fear me." It was true. Niaka was shaking like a leaf, but there wasn't anything she could do about it. He was so close to her that she could feel his breath on her nose. She gulped, but stared back into his cold eyes.
"I see. Well then, you won't mind if I do this then." He held her by the shoulders and pressed himself against her, stopping her shaking. Niaka was trapped between the wall and Bakura. It wasn't the most favourable position in the world.
"What do you want Bakura?"
"Isn't it obvious?" he whispered into her ear, "I want you. I want you next to me at all times, I want to lie next to you at night, I want to know you inside and out."
"What?" Niaka gasped. Bakura chuckled as his fingers traced a pattern down from her face, down her neck and stopped at her throat. He was just about to go further when Orocin burst in. Bakura turned round, furious.
"Orocin! How dare you?"
"S-s-sorry, Boss, it's just that... well-"
"Well what?"
"T-t-the guards are coming." While the pair of them were arguing, Niaka slipped out undetected. She had just got out of the door when Bakura noticed she was gone.
"NIAKA! Oh you idiot Orocin! Find her now. Don't stop till you have. She knows too much- there she is! Get her!"
