Yu-Gi-Oh! Fan Fiction ❯ Searching for your Soul ❯ Chapter Three ( Chapter 3 )

[ X - Adult: No readers under 18. Contains Graphic Adult Themes/Extreme violence. ]

Peggi-I know these chapters are short, and the updates are few, but then again, sequels are never as good as the original. I'm trying, though. I have writers' block, and school is coming up quickly, so I don't know how often I'll get to update. I'll try to update a lot more, though. Just keep the reviews coming, to motivate me, and hopefully I'll have chapter 4 up soon, okies? R&R!

CHAPTER THREE

Ryou awoke late the next day, his head resting on a book he had been reading before he fell asleep. He had been reading a book on resurrection, and he was almost positive he could do the spells in it. He sighed, looking down at the pentagram he had painted onto his kitchen floor; it was much more simple than drawing it every time he tried a different spell. Ryou clung to the millennium ring that was dangling around his neck, and tried to communicate with Bakura, as he frequently did. As always, there was no response from his darker half. Ryou poured himself some Lucky Charms, which he ate quickly, and had just finished when there was a knock at his door. He walked towards the door and opened it to find Yugi and Joey standing outside.

Yugi-Hey, Ryou. Wanna come to the park with us? We're having a picnic!

Ryou thought about this for a moment.

Ryou-*sigh* well, I suppose a little fresh air wouldn't hurt.

Ryou grabbed his house keys and walked out the door with the two boys. They ate in the park and talked for a while.

Joey-So, Ryou. Anything new with you?

Ryou-*sigh* nothing you'd be interested in. just some new spells I learned and stuff. Not like you guys care about what goes on in my life.

Tea-Now Ryou, you know that isn't true! We care about you, and that's why we don't think you should be into the dark arts!

Ryou-*standing up* THEY AREN'T DARK ARTS! THEY'RE SIMPLE SPELLS I'M JUST EXPERIMENTING WITH TO SEE IF I CAN GET MY DARKER HALF BACK! GODDAMN, YOU PEOPLE WON'T TRY TO HELP ME SO WHY SHOULD I EVEN BOTHER TRYING TO EXPLAIN MYSELF TO YOU?!

Ryou stormed off, and the group stared with their jaws dropped for several reasons. 1) they had never heard Ryou yell before. 2) they had never heard Ryou cuss before. 3) they had never seen Ryou walk away from perfectly good potato salad that was still on his plate.

Yugi-Maybe we should have been more supportive?

The group could only nod, still a bit shocked at what had just happened.

Ryou cursed in both Japanese and Egyptian the entire walk home. How dare his friends act this way?! He began talking out loud, thinking things over.

Ryou-Dark arts, they say. I'll show them dark arts. I should cast a spell on them! Show them what REAL magick is about!

He thought about the terrible gruesome things he could do to them using the dark arts; he would never actually do any of them, but it was fun to think about it. When he got home, he found that the door was partially open. His face suddenly became pale, and he slowed his pace down. He noticed, before he even walked inside, that the floor was littered, and when he reached an arm inside the doorframe to turn on the light, but when he flicked the switch, the lights wouldn't turn on. He cautiously stepped into the entryway, careful not to step on the broken glass that was on the floor. He didn't see anyone inside, and figured that the house was empty. He didn't know what else to do, so he ran out of the house.

When he arrived at the park, Yugi and the gang were still there, and they looked up, confused, when they saw their friend running towards them.

Ryou-Guys, I need your help.

He was practically in tears, and the run had caused him to become out of breath. He fell to his knees to catch his breath.

Joey-What's wrong?

Ryou-Someone. . .someone broke into my house.

Tea-Are you okay?! Were you hurt?!

Ryou-No, they were gone before I got there.

Yugi-Have you called the police?

Ryou-No, I came straight here. I was scared and didn't know what to do. I. . .I don't want the police involved. I don't even have a clue as to who could have broken in. I suspect one of the school jocks. . .they all think I'm a freak. . .but if I told the authorities that, they'd question them, and they wouldn't admit to it anyway.

Joey-*standing up* C'mon Ryou. We're going back to your house. I'll make sure it's safe, and maybe you should have someone stay the night at your house. Just in case whoever broke in comes back.

Ryou-You can check the house if you want, but I'm sure I'll be fine tonight.

The gang walked back to Ryou's house with him, and the house was completely empty. Nothing seemed to be stolen, but it would take a LOT of cleaning to straighten things out. As much as they wanted him to, and as hard as he tried, they couldn't seem to talk Ryou into calling the police.

That night, Ryou had stopped thinking about the robbery all together. He was just getting into bed, when the phone rang.

Ryou-Hello?

Yugi-Ryou, it's me.

Ryou-Yugi? It's one in the morning! What are you calling so late for?

Yugi-I think I might know who broke into your house.

Ryou-What?! Who?!

Yugi-Turn on your TV. Channel 9.

Ryou-But isn't that a news station?

Yugi-Turn it on. You might not like this.

Ryou turned on the TV and Yugi heard the phone drop almost instantly. A few seconds later, Ryou picked it back up.

Ryou-No. . .no. . .no. . .

Yugi-I'm sorry. . .NOW do you want to call the police?

That was when the phone went dead.
