Lonely Ones (once again thanks to tefla)

Chapter 2

Bakura, Marik. Jounouchi and Kaiba gathered together, leaving Yami alone to unpack. "It's hard to believe that Yami never found out about Yuugi's grandpa," Jounouchi said. "I'm starting to think that they really never talked to each other since then."

Bakura and Marik nodded their heads. "We need to get him to come over," Bakura commented.

"Yeah, you know he doesn't leave his grandpa's sight. It'd be like peeling an orange with a plastic knife."

Bakura smirked. "Just like you to mention something sharp."

Jounouchi held back Marik before he could get his hands on Bakura's throat.

"Well, if Yuugi won't come here, maybe we can go there," Seto suggested.

"And how are we gonna get Yami there without him realizing it, Sherlock?" Bakura asked, forgetting about the threat on his life.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Yami finished unpacking and sat on his bed. //Who needs them anyways?// Yami asked, referring to his estranged parents. //They were never really there for me in the first place.// He laid fully back on his temporary bed and closed his eyes. //I wish that my parents at least showed some interest in me. They say they care, but act completely the opposite. My life is so screwed up. How could I ever have expected Yuugi to love me when even my own parents don't?//
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

Yuugi sat inside the game shop completely bored. It was beyond him why his grandpa decided to open this early when no one even stops by. The phone clipped onto his belt started ringing. /Probably Jounouchi asking me to spend some time with him again./ He sighed and picked up, "Hello?"

"Hey, there, Yuugi! I was just wonderin'... since you don't want to leave your Grandpa alone to come over here, would it be okay if we came over there?"

"Um, well... I guess it would be okay, but we'd have to hang out in the shop. I still have to watch the shop."

"Yuugi," Jounouchi started, "you know that no one is ever at the shop at this time of day."

"Well, you never know..."

He could have imagined Jounouchi rolling his eyes. "Well, anyways...we'll be over within the hour, okay?"

"Mm-hm. See you then!"

"Bye."

Yuugi clipped his cell phone back to his belt and put his head on the counter, face down. /They've been so eager to meet with me since their break from college for the winter./ Yuugi couldn't help but wonder if anything was up.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Yami went downstairs when he got up from his bed. "Jounouchi?" he called as he came down the stairs. "Where are you guys?"
"In here!" he heard Bakura's voice call from a nearby room.
Yami saw as Jounouchi put the phone down. "Who was on the phone?"
Jounouchi smiled. "I just arranged a small field trip for us."
"I thought you were going to introduce me to Malik and Isis."
Marik and Bakura started pushing him towards the front door. "They're already in the car waiting for us, Yami. Along with Ryou," Bakura explained as he pushed him.
"Where are we going?"
Three people grinned at each other. "It's a surprise," they said in unison, totally freaking out Yami.
Yami finally stopped resisting Marik and Bakura and allowed himself to be pushed to the car with Jounouchi and Seto following behind him.
Inside the car, well, actually limo, Marik introduced Malik and Isis. Isis seemed pretty refrained in comparison with her brother. After a short period of silence Jounouchi spoke up, "Yami, we're gonna blindfold ya."
Yami's eyes widened. "What?! Why?" //This has to be a joke.//
Jounouchi just grinned and gave the thumbs up sign. "Where we're goin' is a secret.
Yami glared at the blond, knowing that this was *not* a joke. He slumped in his seat. "Very well, if you must."
Bakura grinned as he produced a black strip of cloth and began tying it around Yami's eyes. He quickly tested it by moving his hands in front of Yami's eyes.
"Are we there?" Yami asked when he felt the car stop.
"Yep," replied Marik. "We're going to get out of the car first so we can help you get out."
"Okay." Yami suddenly wished he could see. They haven't been traveling for long, so he couldn't be very far from Kaiba's house. He felt two hands on his arms signaling that someone was trying to help him out. When he managed to get out of the car, he heard bells ringing, almost like what would be on the door to a small store.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

Yuugi looked up as he heard the bells ring. "Hey, there," Ryou called to him. Yuugi leaped from behind the counter to greet all his friends.

Jounouchi came right up behind him and pushed him towards the visitors. He looked back at smirking Jounouchi, a little confused at his actions, when he bumped into someone. He shut his eyes, knowing he was going to end up on the ground with the poor soul, but he didn't instead he felt two hands on his shoulders that kept him upright. When Yuugi opened his eyes, he came face to face with a belt buckle that was around someone's neck. /Oh, no.../ He looked up and slowly backed away, but not having much luck as he was held onto rather tightly.

"I'm sorry," the voice said. "You see, my friends decided to blindfold me..."

/He still sounds the same./ Yuugi's mind went blank. The shock of seeing him now was too much. "Y-Yami..." he whispered.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Yami stiffened as he heard the voice say his name. //It can't be, can it?// He lifted a shaking hand to the person's face. He started at the forehead and when he got to the person's lips he knew exactly who it was. "Yuugi." He took off the blindfold and looked at the person in front of him. He looked into the same purple eyes as he did four years ago. //Yuugi, is it really you? Did you want me to be here?// But Yami saw the surprise in Yuugi's eyes, this was not something he planned on.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

Yuugi froze as he looked into Yami crimson eyes. /Why is fate doing such a cruel thing to me? I thought we were never supposed to see each other. But... I can't help being happy for seeing him again. I missed him, I can't deny it no matter how much I tried. And now.../ He felt the tears start to nip at his eyes. /No, I won't cry. I'm not weak anymore. I won't cry over him./

He looked around and realized he was alone with Yami. /This is why they must have wanted me to stay with them. To get me and Yami back together. They probably went to go check on Grandpa./

"How are you?" Yuugi looked back at Yami, surprised that he talked.

"I've been better," Yuugi replied. "I see you're doing good."

Yami shrugged. "From what to be expected, I guess."

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Yami couldn't believe he was there, talking with Yuugi again. //I realize how much I've missed him. Now, I don't want to lose him again. I *won't.*//
"Such wonderful friends we have, huh, Yuugi?" Yami smiled slightly.
"What do you mean?"
"Them doing this for us."
Yuugi resumed his place behind the counter, not meeting Yami's red eyes. "I hate to say it, but I'm not as happy about what they did as you are."
//He is not the same. The old Yuugi wouldn't say something like that. I guess he finally grew somewhat of a backbone.// Yami looked at Yuugi, trying to look at his eyes. //No matter how hard he tried he can never tell a lie. Well, he can lie, but he can't make it believable.// "Really? Look at me and tell me that."
Yuugi did look up, but this wasn't the Yuugi Yami knew. This Yuugi had a cold face on, no emotions showed in his eyes like they used to. Yami didn't know if it was a lie after all. "I'm... not... happy... you're... here."
Yami cringed at the sound of Yuugi's voice. //He sounds serious. Maybe there really isn't hope after all.// "I'm sorry, Yuugi. I didn't know I was coming here, hence the blindfold." Yami turned to walk out of the store. "Tell the others that I'm walking back to the house to pick up my stuff." His eyes darkened slightly. "Tell them I'll be leaving sooner than planned." He heard the bells ring as he opened the door. "Bye, Yuugi."
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

Yuugi watched as Yami left. It wasn't until Yami disappeared from view. He slowly fell to his knees. It took all his energy to keep his poker face on during the exchange. /Maybe that will be the end of all this./

~*~*~*~FLASHBACK~*~*~*~

"Maybe you are right," Yami said softly. "Maybe you are weak."

Yuugi watched as Yami left him before crying out in pain. /I am weak, Yami. I told you I was. But why did you make me chose?/

~*~*~*~END OF FLASHBACK~*~*~*~

/You made me chose. And now you have to live with it./ He stood from his position on the ground and wiped the freshly started tears from his eyes. He turned and saw everyone, including his grandpa, looking at him. /Not, good.../
