Chapter 1:Return To Domino
2 years, that's how long it's been.
2 long years since they left their past, and their hometown: Domino City.
The place was also where everything started, where their hearts were broken. Because of that, they left. They left without a trace; no note, letter, or phone call. They didn't even try to contact their 'friends' and family when they left for America. It was like they left in a cloud of smoke, just vanished.
But now, here they are, returning to the one place that held many happy, but also many pained memories. They were going to see 'them' again after 2 long years. They didn't really have a choice.
They were a popular 'American' singing group, and it required a lot of traveling. They've been to many places and are starting to get well known. They had only started their band 3 months later when they arrived in America, New York City, and were found out just 9 months later after starting their little group. Since then, they began giving samples of their songs in different concerts, and from there, they were welcomed in the arms of stardom.
And their next stop was Japan. Of all places in Japan, it HAD to be THIS city.
Great, just great! What did they do to deserve this? Although, it wasn't their fault. Ishizu (who happened to be their manager) never did tell those stupid idiots that managed Ishizu herself about it. They think that somehow, she planned all this, but they couldn't confirm it because she was one tricky and mysterious person. Oh well, they might as well live with it, 'cause sooner or later they have to confront 'them' again.
----------------
"Ms. Ishizu Ishtar," came the announcement in the speakers.
"Yes? What is it Milton?" the raven haired woman asked.
"We're about to land at the Domino Airport. It might be wise to put on your seatbelts."
"We will, thank you." With that Ishizu and the other occupants in the room did as they were told. The so called 'upset' singing girls where also getting together their stuff as they sat down on their seats. They put on their sunglasses, and coats (since it was Winter), and put away their headphones, books, nail polish, and anything else that a girl would bring on a plane, in their bags.
"Well this is it girls, we're back home after 2 long years," spoke Ishizu.
"Oh joy," replied Mai in a sarcastic voice. She didn't love the idea of returning here at all. That would mean that she had to see the 'puppy' again.
"Aw, c'mon Mai, aren't you at least happy that you'll get to see the others again?" asked Shizuka. Like Mai, she also wasn't happy on the idea of returning 'home', but she did miss her brother very much. She even felt guilty that she didn't tell him about her leaving to America. She had begged her mother not to tell him, because she knew of his overprotective streak. He was always the one who had to approve of everything for her, and that kind of made her angry. She was old enough to take care of herself. He couldn't look after her forever.
"I'll be happy to see the others again of course, but it's your idiot brother who I don't want to see."
"He always got worried over you Mai. I'm sure that he didn't mean to hurt your feelings. After all, he didn't know, and you didn't even tell him," Shizuka retorted back. Mai just looked away.
"Whatever hun, I'm still not going to talk to him." Shizuka sighed. Mai was always like this ever since 'that' incident between Jou and her. She was to proud to admit her mistake. Besides, she always told them that Jou was the one who started first, not her.
"We have finally landed on Domino Airport, please watch your step ladies as you leave the plane," came the announcement from Ishizu's personal pilot.
"Make sure you don't forget anything girls. Oh, and Mai, did you pack Anzu's things for her?" Ishizu asked.
"Already did that."
"Then would you please wake her up?"
"Sure thing hun." Mai went to the back of the room on the last row of seats, and walked over to the sleeping brunette. Anzu was probably the one who changed the most. Not physically, well maybe a little, but mostly emotionally.
She was never her cheerful self. She was now emotionless, and only gave small smiles to her friends. Although while on stage, she shows her cheerful self, but it's all a mask. No one but those closes to her know this. When she walks through the city, she conceals herself as being a normal everyday person. She's grown at least 5 inches taller, and was more developed (but not as developed as Mai). The tips of her hair were streaked in blue, and she wore tight pants and tops now instead of the blouses and skirts she usually wears. She'd also grown to like Kaiba's trench coat feature, and Yami's taste for leather.
"Anzu hun, it's time to wake up," whispered Mai in Anzu's ear. She shook the girl gently, as the other started to stir. The next thing she knew…
vibrant violet met emotionless blue.

*Kame Game Shop*
We're done with the girls for now, so now it's time for the boys. In the shop were…let me see, um 9 boys, counting Yugi's grandpa, that would make 10. But you see, believe it or not, all of them had girlfriends, well only 2 didn't. 4 of them were inside, the others where in an extracurricular activity, and 1 was currently in a music store. Even Kaiba had one, and so did his little brother. So they were now one happy big family right?
Wrong!
They never really showed it, but deep, and I mean very deep inside, they were in pain. I mean, who wouldn't be if your best friends from the past just vanished mysteriously? They put that behind them though. Most of them still hopped that they would come across them again one of these days. So they left that alone.
All of them thought the same thing; if they were to be too occupied with someone else, they'd probably forget. Though it was hard on some people. Mostly on Jou, Malik and Yami.
Joey had two people to worry about. One was his only sister Serenity. He had a feeling that his mother knew something about her disappearance, but didn't have any proof. He had that same feeling in his gut like the feeling he had when he dueled against Rishid, so he knew something was up, but as I said earlier he had no proof.
The other person was of course, his 'past' love interest, Mai. He didn't get what was up with her. He didn't get why she was angry with him. If he knew, he would of corrected it. Now, he not only lost his sister, but Mai as well. Sure he had a girlfriend, but he treated her more as a friend and a sister then as a girlfriend. And to his surprise, Kira accepted the fact.
Malik had the same predicament as Jou. Ishizu had left him without a trace. She did leave a note saying that she was going on a business trip, but those usually last at least for a month. He demanded an explanation to this from Rishid, but he too didn't know. Aside from his adopted 'brother', Ishizu was the only family he had left. If anything happened to her, he'd probably start to lose the rest of his sanity. Good thing Miku was always there to cheer him up.
For Yami, it was with Anzu. At first, he never liked her like 'that'. He always looked at her only as a friend and maybe as a sister. Not to mention also the groups 'voice of reason' and biggest 'supporter'. But after her disappearance, he noticed a feeling that he'd never felt for anyone in a long time emerge. He felt lost, torn, pained , and saddened. He finally came to realize that he had fallen in love with her. Now it was too late to say his feelings for her. She was the reason why he never wanted to get a girlfriend.
As for the others, they either had forgotten about them, or are just putting on a fake facial. Ryou was one of them. He can never forget any of them, and no one understood him better than his yami, his sister Amane, Amber, and Anzu. That was why it always pained him whenever someone reminded him of the brunette girl. Of course with Amber's personality like Anzu's, it was always hard for him to stay sad.
The entrance to the game shop was suddenly burst open, as Miku (Malik's girlfriend) came to a screeching halt. Everyone knew that she was announcing something, because she always showed this much energy when she discovers something that she would call 'exciting news'.
"Uh oh, I know dat look. Ya have some good news for us don't cha Miku?" Joey's question was confirmed as the smiling blonde gave a nod.
"What is it Mikuchi?" asked Amane. Miku gave her friend a glare. She didn't like that nickname. Amane just gave a smile.
"I just got word that Shuffle's coming to stay in Domino for awhile to put on 2 concerts!" At that statement, the other girls in the room gave a squeal.
"Really? Shuffle is here? Their songs are the greatest!" Exclaimed Amber. The guys just looked confused. Who the heck are 'Shuffle'? Was it some new boy band? If it was, they better watch their backs.
"I know it is, especially their theme song!" Yugi's girlfriend Jun squealed out. She then turn to him. "Do you think we can go to their concert next Saturday Yugi!?" The little game king (Yugi: Hey I'm not 'little'! Eve: Yes you are, now shush!) smiled.
"Of course!"
"All right!!!" cheered the girls (exclude Amane)
"What's the deal with this 'Shuffle' person Amane. Who is he?" asked Malik. She gave a smile.
"First off, Shuffle isn't a person, it's a singing group, and second of all, it's all made up of girls, so don't worry." The guys sighed in relief. This made Amane give out another giggle. Ryou then spoke up.
"I think I've heard about them. Aren't they that new band that just recently became popular in America?"
"That's right. They're traveling all over the world. Since that's the case, they always translate their songs in the language that is most suitable in the particular country. I heard that their songs' original language is Japanese, and when they came to America, they translated it into English." The guys gave an 'oh', as they turned their gaze towards their jumping girlfriends.
"We got to tell the others too! They love Shuffle as well. They'd be disappointed if we didn't tell them," Amber piped up.
"Yeah! Let's go find 'em and tell 'em!" exclaimed Miku. "Can you guys get us the tickets for the concerts while we're gone?" All the guys looked at Kaiba who sweatdropped.
"Why are you guys staring at me?" he asked.
" 'Cause yar da one with da money enough to pay for everyone," Jou replied simply. Kaiba looked at the guys and then to the girls who were giving him their best 'puppy dog' eyes. Some even gave whimpers and were also on the verge of tearing up. He looked at the guys again as they were glaring at him to even try making their girlfriends cry. So he did the only thing he could think of, he gave in. Besides, Neera would kill him for sure if he didn't comply.
"Feh, fine, but only if your boyfriends pay at least half of the price." All the girls cheered as they hugged the surprised CEO.
"Yay!Seto's the best! Seto's the best!" they chanted. Kaiba gulped at the menacing looks of the others. He knew later he was going to pay, and big time. He didn't have to worry about Marik and Yami, since they didn't have any girlfriends, but Malik and Bakura were another story. They had Millennium Items and he'd have to be careful as not to make them angry.
"Anyway, I'll lend you their first CD I just bought, so you guys can hear some of their songs. Here." Miku pulled out the CD from her plastic bag, and handed it to Malik. The girls then followed Miku out of the game shop to tell their other friends the news.
After they were out of plain sight, Kaiba warily turned to the remaining occupants. Upon their looks, he timidly asked…
"Am I going to be punished for what just happened just now?" The boys (excluding Ryou and Yugi) gave a share of nods and were smirking menacingly.
Kaiba sweatdropped. (a/n: yeah I know OOC, but I just couldn't resist ^__^)

*At Hotel*
"Well, this place is quaint," commented Mai as she checked the room they signed up for. They got the most luxurious room in the entire Hotel, because of course they were a celebrity and could afford it. Many fans had to be kept away from them as they signed up. The people at the registration booth were really excited that a popular singing group were staying at THEIR hotel. They even asked for autographs. The girls didn't mind all of the attention anyway, they were used to it. As was for people asking for autographs.
"It's really kept clean and there's not a single dust in sight."
"Well this is what you expect from a 5 star hotel. They have great service," Shizuka commented. "And to think, they even have a small Jacuzzi in the bathroom. This will be fun!"
There were only three rooms, so Mai and Shizuka were told to share one room, Anzu in another, and finally Ishizu in the third. The two girls didn't mind at all, and so did Anzu. It was perfect for her because she wanted to be by herself to think up more new songs to sing. Right now, she was working on two new ones, Pure Snow* and White Destiny**.
*Mai and Shizuk's room*
"Wow, this rooms neat! Just look at the pretty curtains and pretty wallpaper!" Shizuka started to gush at the everything at as Mai just ignored her and put her stuff away. Other than the girl being sometimes annoying, she was still a great kid. After unpacking, the two girls decided to go over some of the songs they were going to sing.
"Say, doesn't Anzu have two new songs for us in the making?" questioned the brunette.
"Uh huh, one she'll sing and one you'll sing," replied the blonde. Shizuka clasped her hands together.
"That'll be exciting, I can't wait!" Then she gave a wondering look. "I've been meaning to ask, how come you don't sing that much songs? You have a great voice." Mai smiled.
"That's sweet 'Shishi', thanks." Shizuka gave an annoyed look to the nickname. Mai laughed. "Aw, c'mon, it's cute."
"You make it sound like I'm a little puppy dog," she whined. The blonde smirked.
"Well, just like Jounouchi the mutt right?" The brunette gave her friend a disapproving look.
"Quit Mai, you sound just like…like…like Kaiba…" she trailed off. At the mention of the CEO's name, Shizuka's face fell. Mai saw this and brought the girl into a tight hug as Shizuka started to cry.
"Sssh, there there Shishi, just forget about him for now okay. He's not worth it after what he did to you." Shizuka calmed down a bit, but was still whimpering. What Kaiba did 2 years ago hurt her so much that she decided to leave Domino as well with the others. She was hoping to forget him, but it made her miss him more. Luckily, being on stage cleared her visions of him, and her shyness as well. At first she wanted to become a nurse to help people, but she thought it wouldn't hurt to do a part time career before that big moment.
When she had time she studied for it. At times, she would help out in hospitals and also learn from experts. Not only that, she had asked Mai if she would help teach her how to play duel monsters. She wanted to play as well so she wouldn't feel left out.
"W-well, if-if you want to c-change the subject, can you answer my-my question earlier?"
"Sure thing hun." (a/n: it'll be revealed later)

*Anzu's room*
After she was finished packing, Anzu settled down to check her work on the two songs she was making. She decided that the song White Destiny would be sung by her, and Pure Snow would be sung by Shizuka. Shizuka's song was perfect for her because, Anzu was thinking of having a quiet and kind of childish voice for it and her friend was the perfect one to sing. As for the other one, it was a bit her standards. Not to mention that she liked to sing the very fast beat in the beginning and end-something Shizuka would probably won't be able to do.
~Let's see, a should I end Pure Snow so that I can give it to Shizuka to look over? Hmm~ She sat there and thought for a bit, her pencil eraser rubbing her chin. It then hit her. ~Silly me, a repeat. Most songs here end like that~ She wrote the last few verses and double checked its contents. After, she put it to the side and got out the song she wrote for herself. It was supposed to be shorter than Pure Snow, maybe going to be less than 4 minutes.
-A few minutes later-
"Mm, I'm done!" Anzu stated as she stretched her aching arms. A couple of times, the others would have a song done for the group, but she was the one who made most of them. Ever since the start of high school, she's been writing some poems on her spare time. She eventually edited them a bit and made a song out of the poems.
She always dreamed of dancing ballet, that's why when she and the others ran away, she had chosen New York City, the place she wanted to go all her life. Everything backfired though. After the emotional stress she was pushing on herself, she didn't have the needed spirit to become a ballet dancer.
She wasn't good enough. It took her a few days to recover, before the idea of becoming a singer crossed her. Singing and dancing at the same time became a thrill to her. The crowd cheering and calling her and her band's name out. Out of the stage she was just known as Anzu Misaki, but on the stage she was the 'Shuffle' lead singer, Tea Gardener.
About the group name, she had taught a long while for it. All her teen life, the duel monsters' game was always around her. That had clicked a light bulb. She would find a name related to the game that turned her life upside-down. Later the word 'Shuffle' came into mind. She didn't know how, it just did. Mai and Shizuka became part of the band, and Ishizu offered to be their manager since she had a lot of money. And that was how the new band 'Shuffle' was born.
The theme song for the group was named after the band, and it immediately became a very popular song-- rated #1 to be exact. She made the song dedicated to the belief of her best friend Yugi Motou, believing in the 'Heart of the Cards'.
Yugi…
It reminded her of…of…
Uh oh, a big headache was coming. She closed her table light and flopped down on her bed, immediately falling asleep with one thing in mind. Or in this case, someone.
~Yami~

*Yugi's room*
After the 'jealous' guys gave Kaiba his 'lesson', they decided to listen to the CD that Miku lend them. But first they made some comments on the cover.
"You know, they're not bad looking," commented Honda. The others gave him glares. "What? I'm telling the truth!"
"You didn't have to be so cheerful about it. What would Mayu say if she heard you say that?" questioned Ryou. Honda sweatdropped.
"Oh yeah."
~Idiot.~ thought Bakura. Even Ryou agreed with him silently. But he did have a point, they didn't really look half bad.
They noted three girls on the cover that were vaguely familiar, but they couldn't make them out. Especially with their eyes closed. One girl was facing west, her head tilted upwards and her eyes were closed. For what they could tell, she was a blonde. Another girl with honey brown hair had the same pose as the blonde, but was facing the opposite direction.
In the center was a brunette with long hair that was done in a low braid. She was also in the same pose as the other girls, but facing the center. All their hands were intertwined, and the background consisted of falling snow and snowflakes. At the bottom corner was the name of the band in fancy letters: Shuffle.
"Well, let's hear da songs ta see if they're any good," Jou suggested a little impatiently. Malik handed the CD to yugi, and the little game king popped it into his stereo system.
"Which one should we listen too?" Yugi asked.
"Well, Miku did say that their theme song is good. It's the last song in the album," responded Malik.
"Mm, okay." Yugi put it to the last song and immediately, the song blasted in, making some like Ryou, jump a bit. <<Song>> ~Ooh yeah!… Impatient about not being able to cross that step The hardware is broken And no answer comes out Power and affection If the balance isn't protected You will get yourself lost Who is being controlled on the field? Told to go away, but… Selecting a road for an unseen tomorrow Maybe it can't be done Close your eyes, what your heart can do Definitely, just the cards A miracle will be drawn If you want to go, use all your strength Increase your precious things Forgetting the bad things Who has the invisible wounds on the field? It's an important power, so… Find the one sadness and strength Understand the pain, now Take your time, on anything So you can't run away <<Instrumental>> The false people who make an unconcerned expression There are many of them, now Close your eyes, see with your heart, just the cards, and that is A promise, yes! You are the winner On the unseen tomorrow, Excitement, maybe it can be done, ah! Discovered it Never lose! What your heart can do, definitely, just like cards A miracle will happen!~ <<Song Ends>> After listening to it, Yugi turned if off. He then focused his attention on the other guys who had surprised looks on their faces. Of course he had one too. Who would of thought that the song was based on his belief. "~What your heart can do, definitely, just like cards, a miracle will happen~, who would of thought these singers believe in the 'Heart of the Cards' as well huh?" The others nodded dumbly. Frankly, only Yami, Yugi, Ryou, Honda, and Jou believe it, but pretty soon, the others did as well, but only slightly. They mostly believed it was just pure luck. "So…what do you guys think? I think it was great!" Yugi asked/commented. A few short seconds, and the corner of Kaiba's lips tugged up in a grin. "Not bad, not bad at all." And shortly after, the others nodded their heads in agreement. Yugi smiled. "Alright then it's settled. All of us and the girls will go to the concert!" TBC Well, that's the end for now. Like it? Hate it? You tell me. R&R please! Flames are welcome, although I do hate them. I've never received one though. Next Chapter: A Fun In With An Old Friend - Just like what the title says. Yugi and Co. come across one of their old friends. Who will it be? Ja!
