Jingle Bells, Jingle Bells, Jingle all the Way…

"No way, puppy! There's no way we're going to buy Yugi a pet! Where are we going to keep it?"

"What if I pay for it and look after it until Christmas day then?" Jou asked, looking up at his lover with big bubbly honey chibi eyes.

Seto rolled his sapphire eyes to the back of his head. "Fine… just make sure it stays in your sight at all times. What did you plan on getting him anyway?"

"I wanna get him a kitten… Yugi loves cute stuff like that. He hasn't got a pet anyway and I'm sure his grandpa could do with the company too."

"Alright… let's go and have a look then." Seto sighed. He never did bother much for pets and such. But when it came down to the people he loved and his friends, it all changed.

Jou ended up picking out a grey coloured kitten which looked like a Kuriboh with legs and a tail - a walking fluffball, in other words. He didn't name it, since it was going to be Yugi's kitten, but temporarily named it Cody, since it was a boy.

"Are we going grocery shopping today too, Seto?" Jou asked.

"We might get some things but I think our chefs and kitchen hands have got most it all taken care of. Now let's go and find a present for Yugi and get some more Christmas decorations."

Ryou and Bakura had departed from the Ishtars and were walking hand in hand back to their cottage. Ryou noticed that his mailbox was bulging with newspapers and letters and went and collected it as Bakura unlocked the front door.

"Look at all these letters and postcards we got, yami!" Ryou squealed as he dumped the pile of mail onto the kitchen table.

"Who's it all from?" Bakura asked as he put Ryou's present under their Christmas tree.

"Let's see… hey there's one from Kaiba here. It's an invitation!"

"What for?"

"Let me read it out… "Dear Ryou and Bakura, I am hereby inviting you to attend to my Christmas Eve and Christmas Day parties. There will be lots of wining and dining, dancing, games and outside activities such as snow-mobiling, tobogganing and building snowmen if you will. I hope to see you at the Kaiba Mansion at 7:00pm Christmas Eve, and 12:30pm Christmas Day. Yours truly, the Kaiba Brothers."."

"Figure that, the CEO has a heart." Bakura grumbled.

"This is going to be the most exciting Christmas Eve ever!" Ryou cried as he jumped on his yami, sending them both to the floor; resulting in a fit of giggles and kisses.

"You guys did such a great job!" Anzu cried as she stood back and looked at her finally-finished Christmas tree.

Yami and Yugi stood looking up at it in admiration at the great job that they had done. It did look truly spectacular. There were golden bells and blue and purple spheres with silver tinsel and fake snow which had been sprayed on, resulting in a snow-fight. Yami and Yugi had had a hell of a time trying to get it out of their hair. Yami, Anzu and Yugi had already received Kaiba's invitation. At least they didn't have to bother with shopping expenses like buying a turkey and such. Yami was excited to say the least. This was his first white Christmas - the only other Christmases he had experienced were on hot, sticky desert days in his previous life as Pharaoh. Snow was something he found fascinating; as did the other yamis.

Yugi had promised to spend Christmas Eve with his grandpa, but he would go to the Kaiba estate on Christmas day with the others. Ryou was going to go to the local church on Christmas morning to light a candle and say his prayers and sing carols like he did every year back in England. He remembered Christmas when he was a child… oh how he missed those times…

******Ryou's flashback******

"Mommy! Mommy wake up! Santa has bringed us presents!" I squealed, tugging at my mother's arm which was hanging loosely by the bedside. My father was snoring as loudly as humanly possible.

My mother murmured something and opened her sky blue eyes. She sat up, a little shocked to see me, but smiled and lifted me up onto the bed underneath my arms. "Good morning, little Ryou." She said to me.

I flung my arms around my mother's neck and struggled with my weak legs to get closer to her comfort. I would never open my presents from Santa without Mommy being there. I never have, and I never will.

"Come on Ryou, let's get up and see what Santa brought you this year." Mommy said, lifting herself out of bed. She carried me on her hip through to our lounge and put me down next to our Christmas tree. She watched me contentedly as I tore into my first present. It was a model aeroplane.

"I love you Mommy! Look at my aeroplane go weeee!" I shouted as I started running in circles around my lounge with my new aeroplane in my hands, soaring high.

"I love you too, Ryou. Forever my little son."

Little did I know, this would be the last Christmas I would spend with my mother - forever.

******End of Flashback******

Ryou sighed as he stared into the sky blue eyes of his mother's portrait. She was beautiful - absolutely beautiful. Nobody could deny that she was. It wasn't long after Ryou's fourth birthday that Evelyn was deceased. A form of aggressively progressing cancer had claimed Evelyn's life. Not long after Evelyn's death, Ryou's father, Bailey went to Egypt for ten years with Ryou. There they lived in a small house on the outskirts of Cairo on the banks of the River Nile. Bailey was an archaeologist and had bought Ryou the Millennium Ring when he was fourteen and sent him to Japan six months later for his education. Ryou had only been informed last year that his father had been held hostage by Arabic Night thieves and was murdered. It was in Bailey's will to award Ryou his life's funds.

A tear slid down his cheek as he tried to hold in his emotions. He missed his parents terribly and wailed every so often to have them back. The only thing he had left now was Bakura and his friends; whom he held onto for dear life. He couldn't stand the thought of living alone.

"Hey Ryou!" a piercing voice from downstairs startled Ryou.

"Yes? What is it Bakura?" Ryou called.

"I think something's burning down here! You'd better come take a look!"

"I'll be right down." Ryou said solemnly to himself as he put down the portrait photo of his mother.

Anzu and Yami lay lazily together on the couch watching Christmas movies and hearing the carolers sing outside their house.

"Yami?" Anzu asked, a question suddenly popping into her head.

"Mm?"

"Did you ever celebrate Christmas in Egypt?"

"Don't be silly. Christ wasn't even born in ancient times. We had never heard of Christmas in those days."

"Oh. Of course." Anzu said, feeling a little embarrassed.

"What do you think Kaiba's Christmas Eve party will be like?" Yami asked, rubbing Anzu's forehead with the palm of his hand.

"It'll be great. Kaiba's mansion is huge. He'll have something great in store for us."

"Jounouchi! Get this little runt outa here before I rip all of its legs off!!!!!!!" Kaiba screamed as Cody peed all over his paperwork on his desk.

"What did he do?" Jou asked as he came in.

Kaiba raised an eye and leaned on his hand, staring solemnly up at Jou, tapping his fingers on his desk. "Get him out of here, and get one of my staff to clean up this mess." Kaiba said.

"Sorry dragon. I won't let it happen again."

"Better not, puppy."

Jou exited the room holding the little grey terror in one hand. Kaiba decided to flag his paperwork for the afternoon and see how the whole Christmas tree dilemma was going. He walked into his living room and Mokuba was being held up by a decorator to put the star on the top of the tree. Kaiba smiled. Mokuba made sure that he put the star on top of the tree every Christmas, regardless.

Mokuba soon noticed his brother standing in the doorway. "Seto! You bought Yugi a kitten!! I want a kitten!" he shrieked as he wriggled down from the decorator's arms and ran over to Seto.

"You'll be getting your present soon enough Mokuba." Seto said as he picked up his little brother. Mokuba sat attached to Kaiba's hip.

"Look at the Christmas tree! Isn't it great?"

"It's wonderful Mokuba. You did a good job." Seto said, staring up at the shimmering tree. It had a red and gold theme to it so there were no clashing colours and nothing was out of place.

"Seto! Come and look at the snowman I made!" Mokuba said.

"Where did you make it?" Seto asked as he walked out of the living room.

"In the back yard! Come on! Come on! Let's go and see it!" Mokuba said, fidgeting in Seto's grip. Seto walked out to the back yard and put a scarf around his neck. He saw the gigantic snowman that Mokuba had made while he was out with Jou shopping.

"How did you make that, Mokuba? The snowman is taller than you are!"

"I got Don Juan to help me!" he exclaimed, referring to the Spanish butler which helped around in the house and held doors open for the Kaiba brothers.
~~~~~~~~~~~~
It was falling late and Kaiba had put Mokuba to bed with the exception of a bedtime story and a kiss on the forehead. The raven-haired boy slept soundly from exhausting himself all day by playing with Cody, making a snowman and helping decorate the Christmas tree. Seto closed Mokuba's bedroom door and leant against it, heaving a sigh. Suddenly Jou came down the hall and grabbed his lover's attention.
"Uh, I don't know if you'll be very happy about this, but you might wanna come and take a look."
Jou and Kaiba walked together through the halls to their bedroom. There they found Cody sound asleep, curled up in a ball on Seto's pillow on his side of the bed. Kaiba clenched his fists and snarled at the furry annoyance.
"What is it about me that this creature doesn't like?!" Kaiba said through his grating teeth.
"I'll go and put him on the end of Mokuba's bed." Jou said as he picked up the candyfloss-on-legs and took him to Mokuba's room.
Kaiba looked down at his blue satin pillow now completely smothered in grey cat hairs. He discarded it and went to the linen cupboard to get a new one. He sighed and discarded his shirt and pants. Yugi had better like his present. There's no way that thing is staying in my house. Thank god tomorrow is Christmas Eve.
