The Seeds of Rebellion
Seth returned to his harem quickly. Rayna was laying on her bed, her face wet with sweat. The doctor had arrived and was cleansing the wound. Seth held her hand as the doctor carefully attended to his wife.
“Rayna…..”
Rayna opened her eyes slowly. “Seth…..where….is…Aria?”
Seth shook her head. “She's in the dungeon. I couldn't get her away from Yami.”
“Pharaoh?! Is she alive?”
Seth nodded. “Yes, she is. Don't try to get up. You could hurt yourself more. She's alive.”
Rayna touched her forehead and began to cry. “My daughter! I need to know my daughter is unharmed!”
“I didn't hear Aria crying, Rayna. If Yami had harmed her, I would have heard crying in that room.”
“How do I know the pharaoh has not taken my little girl's womanhood?”
Seth touched her cheek lightly. “The pharaoh does not like little girls. It's the little boy in that room that I am more worried about.”
“Do you think she will turn Aria into a monster like he did Ahmose?” Veria asked him.
“What if he tries to do that with those two poor children?” Sharifa asked.
“Father, will the pharaoh really harm them for fun?” one of his daughter's asked.
“Everyone, calm down. None of you are in danger of the pharaoh's wrath. I will check on those children every day as I am able. I cannot get into the room because the pharaoh took my key. I will do what I can and within my power.”
Rayna sobbed. “My daughter is in the hands of that insane pharaoh!”
“Don't call him insane!” Veria emplored her. “He'll punish you!”
“I don't care!” Rayna protested. “My daughter is in danger and I can't help her!”
Seth caressed Rayna's hair. “Don't anger the pharaoh. He will retaliate against you…..and even those children in that room.”
“How long will the children be at his mercy?” Sharifa asked.
“Four days.”
Rayna held onto Seth's hand tightly. “Please save my daughter.”
Seth shook his head. “I can't get into the room, Rayna. Aria is a strong person. Her will is strong. Her father is strong, isn't he?”
A smile crossed Rayna's face. “Her father is one of the strongest people I know.”
“She seems to have his spirit. She will not break easily. Aria is a strong little girl.” Seth touched Rayna's hair lightly. “You rest, Rayna. Gather your strength.”
Seth remained by Rayna's side until she fell asleep. He kept his eyes trained on her.
“Do you think Aria will survive that long without food?” Sharifa asked him.
“She has to….I can't help her…..That hurts more than anything.”

Yami sat in his throne room as a little boy cleaned his feet with oils. The child worked quickly to clean the dirt from the pharaoh's feet.
Yami grinned and leaned down to the boy. “Such a pretty boy…..”
The child swallowed hard as Yami's hand touched his cheek lightly. “Th-Thank you, my lord….”
He smiled down at the boy and pat his lap. “Sit on my lap, child.”
The servant boy dropped the cloth in his hands slowly and stood by Yami's leg. The pharaoh pulled the boy onto his lap and smiled. “Such a pretty boy….”
Yami brushed the boy's hair out of his eyes. “You look scared.”
The child nodded quietly.
“Don't be afraid….you haven't done anything to anger me…..yet.”
Anubis opened the doors to the throne room. “My pharaoh, you asked to see me.”
“Anubis, what do you think of this child?”
Anubis shrugged. “It's a boy. What else should I think of it?”
“It is indeed a little boy, my Anubis. Look at that skin…so soft and fair. So young….”
“You wanted to see me?”
Yami nodded. “Indeed I did. I wanted to inform you that Aten will be incarcerated in the dungeon for four suns.”
“For what reason?”
“Someone has broken into my secret library. I want to know who. I'm betting that your brat and Aria know who did it. Both of them are the child of thieves and betrayers. They have it in their blood.” Yami caressed the young boy's cheek. “They will remain down there with no food and no water until I free them.”
Anubis bowed. “Yes, sir. If Aten dies, it's of no consequence to me. There will always be someone to take his place.”
Yami nodded as he rubbed the boy's arm. “Very true. I'm betting they know who broke into that library. They will probably starve to death within the week. The High Priest has an unhealthy infatuation with his servant girl. He treats her like one of his own children….he talks nicely to her…dresses her in the best clothing….”
“That is sickening!”
Yami caressed the cheek of the young boy on his lap. “It is repulsive to treat someone below your station as an equal! They are nothing but leeches….like this young one here….robbing us Royalty of our precious air and space.”
Yami clutched the neck of the young boy on his lap. He squeezed, making the child squirm and gag.
Yami stood up as the child's legs dangled and kicked. “The poor are nothing but our servants! On their backs we were made to walk!”
The child struggled for breath as his eyes became wide.
“The fact that the High Priest treats these insects like people is appalling!”
Yami shoved the child against a pillar, the boy's face turning blue and purple from lack of air. Yami's eyes narrowed. “These people disgust me….”
The child's struggling became slower.
“These people are only good to use for our entertainment,” Yami grinned, deeply kissing the boy struggling for air.
Yami dropped the boy on the ground, the child coughing and gasping for air. His body trembled wildly.
“You will be in my chambers tonight. Go now. You bore me.”
The child rushed out of the room, panting.
“I will be back to get Aten in four suns then, my pharaoh.”
“Do so, Anubis….that is, if the child survives.”

Aria yanked at her chains as hard as she could. She tried slipping her wrists through the chains, but it didn't work.
Through the bars of the room, she could tell it was dark outside. The room where she and her friend were restrained was dark, except for the tiny amount of light offered by the moon.
Aten had roused from his sleep when the sun set.
She looked up at the ceiling and narrowed her eyes. “I hate the pharaoh.”
Aten shuddered. “Aria, if he hears you, he'll come punish us.”
“I don't care, Aten! I hate him! He's awful! He shouldn't be in power!”
Aten swallowed nervously. “I don't want to get hurt again, Aria. Please don't say those awful things.”
“But you feel it, too! You have to feel it, Aten! Don't you hate him for doing this to us? Don't you hate him for hating your daddy and wanting him hurt? Don't you hate him for hurting you?”
Aten clenched his fists tightly and looked around at the shadows nervously. “I…..I hate him for killing Hamadi. I hate him for allowing Ravana to die. I hate him for….for hurting me and allowing Anubis to do what he pleases to me.”
“You see??? I knew you hated him!”
“But I can't say anything about it or he'll kill me! I don't want to die!”
Aria growled into the darkness. “The pharaoh will not hurt me. I won't allow it. Seth will protect me.”
“Nobody protects me, Aria. I have to defend myself.”
“I know you can protect yourself, Aten. All you need is the courage!” she exclaimed. “You need the courage to defend yourself against that rat of a pharaoh!”
Aten laid his head on the stone below his cheek. “I'm hungry….”
Aria sighed. “I know. I have to relieve myself….but I'm not going to ruin this nice dress that mother made for me. That would be naughty.”
Aten groaned. “I have to do that, too….but Anubis gets angry when I get dirty.”
Aria turned to Aten. “When you get older, do you want to be pharaoh?”
Aten blinked. “What?”
“Do you want to be pharaoh? Or High Priest? When Yami isn't pharaoh anymore, I think Seth gets it because he is the High Priest. When he is Pharaoh Seth, he can elect you as the High Priest! Then you can have all the women that Seth has! You would be a great High Priest, Aten!”
“I don't know if I want to be High Priest. It sounds hard.”
Aria smiled. “I think you could do it! We just have to convince you that you can do it!”
Aten shivered as a cold breeze entered the room. “That's if we don't freeze to death first.”
Aria shivered with her friend. “Very true…..”
