xNozomix-Ryou lost miscarried after Yami struck him dead during his duel with Aria and Aten. Why didn’t it happen earlier? Well, I thought it was the end of my series and I wanted Bakura to have his former child back. So, I just ran with my previous setup for this story (I also rewrote the ending of Return to Paradise, so I had alot of changes that I did). There’s also that little thing where Bakura said he forgot to use protection a few months prior.
A New King of Egypt
Joey pinched Malik’s nose and tilted the hikari’s head backward. Joey breathed into Malik’s mouth as a concerned Yami Bakura and Ryou watched nervously. Aten and Aria watched as Joey shook his head despondently. Joey breathed into Malik’s mouth again, making the hikari quickly gasp for oxygen. Seto Kaiba stepped into the room holding his cell phone in his hand.
Malik grabbed onto Joey tightly as he trembled. His eyes went to Ryou and Joey hovering above him. “What happened?”
“Take it easy,” Aten said calmly. “Don’t excite yourself.”
Malik turned his head to the side to see Marik laying beside him, his eyes now closed. Yami Bakura was kneeling beside his lover, caressing the spiky, blond hair tenderly. “Marik? Yami?”
Malik turned over on his side and caressed Marik’s cheek. “Sweet Isis! Marik, speak to me!”
A tear fell from Malik’s eye. “Marik?”
Joey shifted to Marik and checked the yami’s pulse. “He doesn’t have a pulse.”
Bakura shifted back for Joey to kneel beside the fallen yami. Joey rolled the yami onto his back. Joey pinched Marik‘s nose and breathed into Marik‘s mouth. “Hold on, Ishtar.” Bakura took his lover’s hand. “Come back to us.”
Ryou folded his hands in front of him and began to whimper. Bakura saw his husband begin to cry softly. “Marik, no...”
Malik struggled to sit up beside his husband. “Marik, can you hear me?”
Joey pressed on Marik’s chest. “Come on, Marik.”
“Zira will be here soon. I sent Kendall to get him,” said Seto as he kneeled beside Malik.
“Father Bakura, I thought our hearts couldn’t stop because we are dead,” Aten said.
Bakura shook his head. “We may have a fake heartbeat, but it can still stop. Our spirit can fade if it is motionless for too long, much as if our mortal hearts stop beating.”
“Father Marik, don’t fade on us,” said Aria with concern.
Yami Marik’s eyes opened as he gasped for air. Joey pulled back as Malik put his arm around Marik. “Yami! Thank the gods!”
Marik put his arm around Malik and looked up at Joey. “What happened?”
“I found you and Malik unconscious on the ground. Malik had a weak heartbeat, but you had none.”
Marik closed his eyes and panted for breath. “I tried to keep him alive with my spirit energy.
“Thank you, Marik,” Malik whispered.
“Ishtar, what do you remember last?”
“Bakura, we should get them into a bed,” Ryou said.
Bakura nodded. “Yeah, good idea, Ry.” Ryou leaned down to help Malik to his feet when Bakura held his hand out. “No, Ry, I don’t want you to lift. I don’t want you or the baby hurt.” Ryou reluctantly stepped back to allow Seto to pick up Malik. Bakura and Aten helped Marik to his feet.
We shall join our master.
Marik gasped and looked around in alarm. “What was that?”
“I said that I hoped you would be alright,” Aria said.
“No, someone is talking about someone.”
Ryou shook his head. “Oh, dear.”
“Marik, you must have hit your head when you fell on the ground,” Bakura said. “We’ll get you into bed and you can relax.”
Destroy them all, master.
Marik gasped and began to struggle against his son and Bakura. “Leave them alone!” Marik screamed.
“Father, it’s us! Calm down!”
Malik winced in Seto’s arm and held his head. “Stop it,” Malik whimpered in pain.
“Malik? Aria, he’s slipping!”
Aria grabbed Malik’s other arm.
Ryou followed the group. His friends carried the Ishtars into the nearest bedroom and placed them on the bed. Marik gripped his hair tightly as he curled up into a fetal position on the bed. Ryou cautiously reached for Marik and caressed his lover’s hair. “Poor Marik. I’m here.”
“Mother, be careful,” Aten said.
Malik laid on the bed and looked around nervously. “Can nobody else hear that?”
“Hear what?” Joey asked. “I don’t hear anything.”
Ryou put his arm around Marik and caressed Marik’s cheek. “Yami, what is wrong with them?”
“We all knew the Ishtars were a little crazy, but I couldn’t hazard a guess.”
“Pups, let’s go wait for Zira and make sure Umi’s taking care of the kids.” Joey and Seto left the Itemris and the Ishtars alone.
Ryou moved to sit beside Malik. The Egyptian hikari shifted close to Ryou and placed his head on Ryou’s lap. Ryou felt the Egyptian rub his cheek affectionately against his leg. The Egyptian closed his eyes and felt Ryou caress his hair. Ryou looked over at his husband sitting beside Marik.
Bakura ran his fingers through Marik’s hair and mutter in a language Ryou couldn’t understand. Marik’s muscles relaxed under Bakura’s gentle stroke.
“I keep hearing a voice, Itemri,” Marik said.
“It says strange things like ‘Our Master beckons’ and ‘Destroy them all.’”
Ryou swallowed nervously. “Oh, dear.”
Bakura narrowed his eyes at Marik. “Has the person...or whatever it is...identified themselves?”
Malik turned his head and looked up at Ryou with fear. “The voice said the first line of the Tombkeeper’s Ceremony. My father said it before he began to carve my back. ‘May the gods of Egypt infuse their spirit into my son with the blade of this knife,’ it said.”
“It was that act of abuse which summoned me from the Millennium Rod,” Marik added. “I couldn’t believe how that man could bind his son to a stone altar and carve into him.”
Malik gagged. “That piece of wood in my mouth hurt so bad. My father failed to muffle all of my screams through that wood.”
Ryou caressed Malik’s hair. “You poor thing.”
“Did anyone appear to you?”
“No,” Marik said. “Malik and I were alone,” the yami added, closing his eyes and cuddling up to Bakura. Marik put his head on Bakura’s lap and fell asleep.
“What do you think, yami?” Ryou asked.
“I don’t know,” Bakura responded quietly. “Nothing appeared to them. I don’t sense anything. Do you?”
Ryou looked around the room and shook his head. “No, I do not. Except....” Ryou looked down nervously at Malik. Malik closed his eyes and was relaxing on Ryou’s lap.
“What is it, love? What do you think?”
“Could it be Yami?”
Bakura grit his teeth with anger. “It had better not!”
“Yugi is coming today. Maybe he can sense his arrival?”
“Yami is trapped in the Shadow Realm unless Yugi finishes the puzzle. I don’t believe Yugi has reassembled his Item.”
Ryou’s right hand went to his stomach anxiously. “Bakura, I don’t want him to hurt the baby.”
Bakura looked at Ryou. “I would sacrifice myself before I would let anything happen to you and our baby.”
Ryou smiled and bowed his head. “I love you, yami.”
“I don’t think it was Yami if Ishtar is hearing prayers from the Tombkeeper’s Initiation.”
Marik draped his arm over Bakura’s leg and began to snore. Bakura grinned. “I don’t think I’m getting up any time soon.”
Malik’s snore began to match his yami’s. “I don’t think I’m going anywhere either. I wish I knew who was speaking to them.”
“This is very strange,” Ryou said. “I wish we had some answers.”
Bakura wiped his sweaty brow. “I prefer Marik this way to the way he was a few minutes ago.”
Yugi ran into the room and looked at the bed. “Seto told me what happened! Is Malik alright?”
“They’ll both be alright with a little rest,” Ryou said.
“What happened?”
“We found them unconscious and Marik started going on about voices speaking to him,” Bakura said as he caressed Marik’s spiky hair. “We just managed to calm them down.”
Yugi walked toward the bed cautiously. “Did they mention Yami?”
“No, but I wonder if he’s involved somehow,” Ryou said.
Yugi shook his head. “I never reassembled the Puzzle. He’s trapped in the Shadow Realm unless I solve the Puzzle again.”
Bakura sighed and leaned against the pillows. “Marik didn’t have a pulse when we got to him. Joey had to do CPR to bring him back.”
“I have a bad feeling about this, guys.”
“Unkie Yugi!” Kai and Rhett exclaimed as they ran in to hug their Uncle. Yugi hugged Aria’s children and gave them each a piece of candy. “Merry Christmas, you two. Have you been good boys this year?”
Both children nodded. “We’ve been very good! We’ve been playing with our sister and cleaning up our toys when we are done playing.”
Rhett turned to the bed and saw Bakura sitting with Marik’s head on his lap. “Is Papa Marik tired, Papa Bakura?”
“Yes, boys, he’s tired. Why don’t you go play?”
Yugi watched the two boys run out of the room to play. “They’re getting big. I can’t wait to see Kailani. I’ve been so busy, I haven’t had the time being so busy with the Game Shop.”
Ryou slowly shifted from Malik’s side. The Egyptian remained asleep as Ryou stood beside the bed. “Let’s go see her together. Yami, will you be alright alone?”
Bakura nodded. “I’ll stay here a little longer.”
“I’ll come back later, baby,” Ryou whispered, kissing Bakura’s lips. Ryou walked out of the room with Yugi.
Bakura looked down at Marik sleeping on his lap and sighed. Bakura caressed Marik’s cheek lightly.
********************
Aria raised her head as Yugi entered the room. Joey was sitting before the fireplace with Kailani on his lap. The baby girl with a tuft of thin, brown hair sitting on Joey’s lap was looking down at the book. Joey looked up at Yugi and waved at his friend.
“Hey, buddy! Nice to see you, Yuge!”
“Hi, Joey!” Yugi smiled. “It’s great to see you again.”
Aria waved to Yugi. “Hello, Uncle Yugi! Nice to see you!”
“Wow, Kailani is getting big!”
Aria smiled. “Yes, she’s getting to be a big girl.”
Yugi looked at the baby’s hair. “Ryou, does brown hair run in your family?”
“Not in my family, but Bakura and I both have brown eyes. Aria has brown eyes. Perhaps it is a recessive gene in our family.”
“But Aria has white hair like you and Bakura,” Yugi said.
Ryou shrugged and caressed his granddaughter’s head. “I still love her.” Ryou winced as he covered his mouth. Aria, Yugi, and Joey saw Ryou suddenly run from the room.
“Is Ryou alright?” Yugi asked.
“Mother hasn’t been feeling well, Uncle Yugi,” said Aria.
“Seto told me Ryou’s gonna have another baby,” Joey said.
Yugi smiled. “Wow! I didn’t expect that. He looked really sick a few months ago. Bakura must have his hands full, then."
Aria nodded. “Mom is really happy."
Yugi reached down and touched Kailani’s cheek. “What happened to Marik and Malik? Do you think it is Yami?”
Aria narrowed her eyes and crossed her arms defiantly. “If it is, we’ll teach him a lesson for breaking out of the Shadow Realm!”
“I didn’t reassemble the Millennium Puzzle, so it can’t be him!”
“It’s alright, Yuge,” Joey chimed in. “We know you’re not responsible.”
Aria heard her father call for his mother. She turned her head and saw her father run towards the bedroom he shared with his husband. “I should check on mom. Excuse me.”
Aria left the room, leaving Yugi and Joey alone with the baby girl. She ran to her parents’ bedroom and found the bathroom door open. “Mom?”
She ran to the bathroom and saw her mother kneeling on the floor, throwing up into the toilet. Bakura was standing beside his husband, holding Ryou’s white hair and rubbing his lover’s back.
“Mom, are you alright?”
“Mom will be fine, Aria.”
Ryou spit into the toilet. “I thought I was done with this morning sickness.”
Bakura rubbed his lover’s back. “Hopefully this will be the end of it.”
Ryou sighed and stood up. He reached for his toothbrush and toothpaste and began to brush his teeth. //I hope you’re right, yami. This is gross.//
“Sure is,” Bakura said, flushing the toilet.
“How is Father Marik and Malik?”
Bakura shook his head. “They were still awake. We’ll wake them for lunch to see if they are hungry.”
********Dream Sequence*************
Malik opened his eyes and looked tiredly at the blurry world around him. Isis was staring at him as he laid in his bed. Isis’ gentle hand caressed his cheek. “My baby brother, you are awake.”
“Sister, what happened?”
“Odion has angered our father. I’m sorry if he woke you from your sleep,” Isis said, placing a cold, wet cloth against Malik’s head. “Your fever seems to have lessened. Our father is angry that Odion had allowed you to be bitten by a snake.”
Malik tried to sit up, but his muscles burned. He trembled as he clutched onto his sheets. “It hurts, sister.”
Isis turned suddenly as she heard voices within the halls. Her eyes widened in fear as she laid Malik down. “Close your eyes, brother.”
“Why?”
Isis swallowed nervously as she covered Malik down. “The Tombkeepers have heard of your injury. They are going to exact vengeance on Odion.”
“Oh, no! Odion! Don’t hurt him!” the little boy cried, his pleas echoing through the stone walls. “Don’t anger the Tombkeepers, Malik. Their use of magic is dangerous.”
Malik grabbed his hair. “Why must our father consort with them?”
/It is your birthright to command them. Do not deny your birth./
Malik opened his eyes. “What did you say, sister?”
“I didn’t say anything, brother.”
Malik turned over on his stone bed covered only by a sheet and looked at the wall. Against the wall, he saw two black eyes staring back at him along with spiky hair. Malik closed his eyes. “It’s not there. I didn’t see anything.”
/Of course you did not see anything. I am inside of your Millennium Item, my home. I share your soul. I feel your pain. You belong to me./
***************
Malik opened his eyes quickly and saw Marik sitting beside him looking down at him with concern. Malik breathed sharply as Marik caressed his hair.
“Are you alright?”
“Marik, what happened? I thought Bakura and Ryou were here.”
Marik sighed. “We must have been asleep for a long time. I remember hearing voices before I fell asleep.”
Malik sat up and rubbed his head. “Are you alright, Marik?”
Yami Marik stood up and walked around the bed to Malik. “I’m glad you’re alright.”
A click sounded by the door, making Marik’s head snap up. “What the hell?” Marik ran to the door and turned the doorknob. “We’re locked in, hikari!” Marik tugged on the doorknob and knocked on the wood. “ITEMRI! SETO! ATEN!”
Malik stood up from the bed. “We’re trapped in here?”
Marik slammed his shoulder against the wood. “Not if I have anything to say about it!”
Malik felt a cold breeze against his cheek. He turned and saw a purple haze seeping from the corner of the room. “Marik! The Shadow Realm!”
Marik turned his head and saw Malik back away from the corner slowly. Marik narrowed his eyes and clenched his teeth. Marik ran for the side of the bed and picked up his Millennium Rod. Malik ran behind him as the yami gripped the Millennium Item. Marik held the Rod against his chest as he stood defensively in front of his husband.
“Stay behind me, Malik.”
Malik watched as several black figures appeared in the purple smoke. “Could it be Yami?”
Marik’s hair spiked as a growl emanated from his throat. “I won’t let him get to you.”
Seven black ghostly figures appeared before the couple. Malik shivered as he saw the figures.
Marik gripped the Millennium Rod, ready for any attack.
The couple watched in surprise as the figures before them appeared in purple cloaks and gold chains. Malik and Marik’s eyes widened in surprise as they saw what resembled Rare Hunters.
“Who are you? What do you want?” Marik asked angrily.
The men kneeled before Marik. “Master Marik, we have searched for you.”
“What do you mean? Get out of here!”
“We have orders to bring you and Master Malik back with us. You are our master, Master Marik. We need you to right the wrongs of the past.”
Malik held onto Marik’s arm. “We have had nothing to do with the Rare Hunters for twenty years! Why are you here?”
Marik pointed the glowing Millennium Rod at the cloaked figures. “I have finished with you long ago. I have settled, started a family, and I have put that past behind me.”
“The Tombkeepers want you to return, Master Malik. Return to your family’s tomb.”
“First of all, that was not my family’s tomb! Pharaoh Yami cursed my family to take care of it for millennia! My family watched the tomb, generations came and gone who have never seen the sun for one moment. My eyes were the first to see the sun in five thousand years,” Malik exclaimed.
Marik shook his head. “I am not going with you and I will slay the person who touches a hair on my husband’s head!”
One of the figures pulled back his hood. “What if you said we could make you King of Egypt, Marik Jibade Ishtar?”
“Forget it. I’d rather have my family.”
“You will be coming back with us. Return to your roots, Marik and Malik Ishtar. You cannot resist the powers of darkness.”
Malik narrowed his eyes. “We are happy now. I don’t need anything from my past!”
“My hikari lived for ten years in an oppressive family environment. He finally has a family now, one who loves him and doesn’t want to lock him in a tomb full of darkness and despair.”
“We want you to lead us, Master Marik. You can be supreme Lord of all. You can rule over all and Master Malik would never need to live in the tomb of the pharaoh. He will be the descendent of a pharaoh.”
Marik narrowed his eyes. “Yami put you up to this, didn’t he? You’re working for Yami, aren’t you?”
“No, Master Marik. We work for you. We wish for you to sit upon the throne as king.”
“We shall give you a taste of what the possibilities can be!”
Malik wrapped his arms around Marik as a bright light surrounded them.
********************
Bakura caressed Ryou’s head as his lover laid on the bed. Aria sat beside Ryou and saw her father suddenly tense. Bakura‘s ears perked and he narrowed his eyes. “I sense the Shadow Realm,” he said angrily.
“What?” Aria asked.
Bakura growled and turned to his daughter. “Stay with your mother. Do not leave him, Aria Kanika.”
Aria shook her head. “Daddy, I should go with you! You can’t face Yami alone!”
“Aria, no!” Bakura yelled, turning towards his daughter. “Your mother needs protection. If it is Yami....Aria, I don’t want your brother or sister to suffer. Protect him, Aria.”
Bakura ran from the room and looked up and down the hallway. Bakura ran down the hallway and down the marble stairs. Aten was standing at the bottom of the steps.
“Father Bakura, do you sense that?”
“Where is it coming from?”
Aten and Bakura looked down the hall and saw a bright light emanating from under the doorway. “Father?” Aten called as he banged on the door.
Bakura turned the doorknob and shook his doorknob. “Son of a bitch is locked! Aten, get back!”
Aten stood back and watched as Bakura threw himself against the door. The white-haired yami groaned as he threw himself against the door again.
Bakura growled as the doors swung open on their own power. A bright light surrounded Bakura and Aten.
Aten covered his eyes as the light surrounded him. Bakura growled as he felt Aten’s hands grab his arm. “Father Bakura!”
“Hold on, Ankhenaten!”
**************************
Yugi clutched tightly onto Glenn as a bright light filled the room. Seto and Joey held hands as the bright light filled the room. Yugi and Seto felt the room spin on its axis and a blast of heat surround them. When the light diminished, their surroundings came into view.
The group looked around and found themselves in a lavishly decorated hallway. The walls and floors were polished marble. Seto saw images of the Egyptian gods painted on the walls. Yugi ran to the mural on the opposite side of the large hallway and looked up at the image.
“Everyone, look! It's Yami!"
Seto raised his head and saw the large image of Yami with the Millennium Puzzle. “What is going on?"
“Seto, I don't think we're home anymore," Joey said.
“Halt! Intruders!" Glenn heard soldiers call from the hallway.
Glenn ran towards Yugi and wrapped his arms around his boyfriend. “Yugi!"
Seto stood in front of Joey defensively. “Stay back!"
The soldiers ran towards them and stopped when they saw Yugi and Seto. The soldiers fell to their knee before Yugi and Seto. ”Your Highness!”
“Umm...me?" Yugi asked.
“Yugi, you look like Yami! They think you are him," Glenn whispered.
“High Priest, the pharaoh has requested your presence in the throne room."
Seto and Yugi exchanged glances. “Very well. Take us to him."
“Yes, my lord."
Seto and the group followed the soldiers. “Just act natural, puppy."
Yugi looked up at Seto. “Bakura only told me a little bit about what kind of pharaoh Yami had been. Do you think he was telling the truth?"
Seto sighed and looked down at his friend. “Yugi, there may be many things here that you will see. Your eyes will be opened to the truth of the type of ruler Yami truly was. You may not like what you see."
“Do you think Bakura and the others are here, Seto?" Joey asked.
“I don't know. I hope they are safe if they have found their way here."
Glenn swallowed nervously. “Now we have bigger problems than to worry about if they are alright. We're seeing the man himself."
The soldiers lead them to Yami. Yugi held Glenn's hand tightly as the group approached Yami sitting on his throne.
“My High Priest, where have you been?"
Seto swallowed nervously. “I was showing your successor through the palace."
Yami stood up and slowly advanced on Yugi. “I trust you are caring for my son, Seth."
Seto and Yugi quickly exchanged glances. “Yes! That is exactly what I am doing, my pharaoh!"
Yami smiled down at Yugi. “He must stay safe for he will obtain my throne someday. Take good care of him, High Priest." Yami looked at Seto. “Why are you dressed in such an awkward fashion?"
Seto looked down at his flannel pants and blue t-shirt. “I have not yet changed my clothes, my king."
Yami leaned down and kissed Yugi's cheek. “You should return to Seth's harem, little one."
Yugi crossed his arms. “Little? Yami, I'm-."
“He's very tired," Joey quickly chimed in. “We should put him down for his nap."
Yami raised a curious eyebrow. “I have never seen you before. Who are you?"
Seto bit his lip. “He is with me, my king."
“High Priest, I thought you only preferred women. You bring a man into your harem?"
“Yes! I am..."
Yami looked at Glenn and Joey. “I will have no trouble in my home. If I find you are causing trouble, I will dispense justice on you."
Glenn and Joey nodded quickly. “Yes, sir!"
“Return to your women, Seth."
Seto nodded and lead the group from the room holding his breath. When the group left the room, they sighed with relief.
“How can he think I am his son?" Yugi asked.
Glenn turned to Yugi. “Let him think that, Yugi! If he thinks that you are his son, that will keep you and us in his good favor!"
“I agree with Glenn, pal," Joey said. “Yami is already crazy nuts. If he wants to believe you are a unicorn with flowing, pink hair, let him believe it."
Seto raised a curious eyebrow. “Where the hell did that come from, Joey?"
“Let that crazy bastard believe what he wants," Joey whispered. “We'll live longer that way."
Seto crossed his arms. “I wonder how we got here or how we can get back home."
“Do you think the others made it here, too?"
Glenn and Yugi shifted uncomfortably on their feet. “I hope not," Glenn said. “How are we going to find them?"
Seto looked at Yugi. “We could leave the palace."
“Would Yugi be able to leave?"
Seto looked down at Yugi. “I think you and Glenn should stay here."
Glenn took Yugi's hand. “Be careful, Seto."
Seto nodded. “I'll get a soldier to take you to my harem. At least you will be safe. Wait here."
Seto and Joey walked down the hallway. “Seto, can I ask you a question?"
“What is it?"
“How will you be able to enter a room with naked women and their breasts exposed and not vomit?"
Seto cringed. “I'll just try to picture you naked. That's my plan."
Joey smiled. “A whole room of naked women. I bet you some of them would make the best nude models! I'll have to try and get myself some paints."
“What's the Ancient Egyptian equivalent of a nausea medication?"
“I don't know, but if you ask Bakura I'll bet you he would know."
*************************
Bakura groaned as the light disappeared and was replaced by darkness. His fingers twitched as he felt another hand touch his. Bakura opened his eyes and saw white and blond hair spread on the cold ground.
“Aten? Are you alright, Little Ishtar?”
Aten whimpered as he slowly began to stir. Bakura felt a pair of small hands on his back. Aten struggled to his knees and gasped. “We’re not in Seto’s Summer home anymore, Father Bakura.”
The yami felt rain falling onto his hair. He heard a child gasp as he kneeled on the ground.
Bakura and Aten turned to see a small cringing figure curled up in a fetal position. Thunder above their heads rolled across the sky.
Aten saw the tiny, thin figure huddling against the wall of the nearby building. “Don’t be afraid. We won’t hurt you.”
Bakura heard the child whimper as he curled in a fetal position. A flash of lightning streaked across the sky. The child’s terror-stricken face came into view through the lightning flash.
The child was dressed in a tattered skirt, his face and body were dirty and covered in bug bites. The boy’s white hair was covered in patches of dirt.
Bakura’s eyes widened in shock. “Oh my god, Aten, it’s me!”
