Treasures Lost, Treasures Found
Seto and Joey gazed with wonder at the mural depicting KaibaCorp. “How is this even possible?”
“Robbie and I tried to figure it out, too,” Aten answered quickly. “We have no idea what it means.”
Aria and Kai ran into the sanctuary. “It appears that all the monsters are back to normal. Every stone is back where it should be.”
Kai tugged on Umi’s hand. “There was one stone with a big, white shark! Daddy, it was so neat!”
“I want to go home,” Rhett whined tiredly. “It’s hot.”“We have to wait for Nana, Bakura, and the Ishtars,” Aria answered as she cradled her baby daughter in her arms.
Yugi examined the bottom of the mural. “These figures look like Tombkeepers, guys.”
Seto kneeled beside the smaller man and ran his fingers over the plaster. “Tombkeepers exist in the future?”
Glenn folded his arms against his chest. “How would that be possible? I thought Malik was the last of the Tombkeepers.”
“Where the hell is he and Marik, anyway?” Joey asked.
“They’re a secret society. It’s hard to know if they are still alive,” Seto commented as he stood.
Robbie and Aten turned to see Marik and Malik walking into the room holding hands. “Well, two down, two to go.”
“I had to see my younger self one more time before I left,” Marik said. “I’m...very sorry for what I have put you all through. I honestly don’t know what came over me and what controlled me.”
Yugi turned to the Ishtars. “You were pissed off just like you were in Battle City, Marik. All those old emotions stirred in you and you cracked.”
Marik looked around nervously. “Where is Ry?”
“Daddy and mom haven’t come back yet,” said Aria.
Malik put his hand on Marik’s back. “He’ll be here, Marik. Don’t worry.”
The group heard approaching voices echo through the tomb. Bakura was uttering words of consolation and encouragement amid Ryou’s audible whimpering.
“That’s not good,” Glenn whispered as he ran out of the room.
“Glenn?” Yugi asked as he watched the male nurse run from the room. Yugi turned and looked at the necklace. “How do we make the necklace react to the mural?"
Glenn and Bakura supported Ryou as he walked on unsteady legs. “We have to get home now, guys.” Ryou was bent over as he tried to walk, his breathing unsteady and sharp.
Aria and Aten ran towards their mother, who was breathing quick and deep. “Mom, hold on. We’ll get you home.”
Aten put a comforting hand on Ryou’s shoulder. “Mother, it’s going to be alright.”
“What are we gonna do?” Robbie asked in a panic.
Seto looked at Yugi. “You have to do what you did before, Yugi. Activate the magic.”
“How the hell am I supposed to do that? I don’t even know how it worked the first time!”
Malik approached Yugi and examined the stone. “You were able to activate it before.”
“Yes, but I don’t know how!” Yugi exclaimed.
Ryou let out a pain-filled scream as Bakura and Glenn held onto his arms. “Yugi, help! Please! Don’t let my baby die!”
“Yugi, my son’s life depends on you!” Bakura pleaded.
Yugi looked up at the woman in the mural. He held up the necklace towards the stone. A bright light filled the room.  A familiar warmth surrounded the group as the room began to spin.
Yugi clutched the necklace in his hand tightly. His body felt weightless and numb as the light persisted. A pair of arms wrapped around him as he slowly opened his eyes. Malik was trying to wake him. “Yugi, we’re back home! Wake up!”
Yugi opened his purple eyes and looked around as his eyes adjusted to the light. “We’re back in Kaiba’s Summer Home?”
Malik nodded. “Yes! You and I are going to watch the kids while Bakura, Glenn, Marik, and Seto take Ry to the hospital.”
Yugi looked at the necklace and the black stone in his hand. “Why does it react to me?”
“We won’t know until everyone gets back and we can sit and think this through. Right now, Ryou is in trouble. I hope he is alright.”
***************
Ryou leaned against Bakura as Karl ran to the driver’s seat of the limo. Seto held Ryou’s hand as he called the hospital on his cell phone. [This is Seto Kaiba. Ryou Bakura is en route and is in need of surgery. Tell Doctor Zira that Ryou is having an emergency. He will know what it means....Nature of the emergency? It’s serious. Leave it at that. Dr. Zira will know what it means.] Seto turned to the others. “I’ll call you with updates.”
Ryou grit his teeth as his body tensed. “Bakura, baby, he doesn’t want to wait!”
Bakura held Ryou’s hand tightly. “Hold on, Ry.”
Malik, Yugi, Aria, Joey, and Aten watched Bakura and Seto help Ryou into the limousine and drive away.
“I hope mother will be alright,” Aten said worriedly.
“He will be,” Robbie said, placing his arm around Aten’s shoulders.
Malik turned to Yugi. “What happened and how did we get to Ancient Egypt?”
The shorter duelist looked up at the Egyptian. “Well, you and Marik were being controlled by Snefru and Ausaira, Bakura’s brother and sister, with this.” Yugi looked at the onyx stone in his hand. “I don’t know how, but this stone was able to bring us home. It only reacts to me.”
“How does it work?”
Yugi shrugged. “I don’t know, but I’m curious about it. Why does it only allow me to use it? How did it control you and Marik?”
“I wish I knew what happened.”
Joey looked sideways as Aria stood beside her brother. He felt a shudder as he imagined Aria writhing under Seto. I don’t know if I’ll ever be able to look at her the same way again.  Joey turned and broke away from the crowd. Joey entered the Kaiba home and returned to his art room. He opened his can of paint and grabbed a brush. I love Seto, but how could he do this to us? All I can think of is this girl underneath him. I’ve always trusted Seto, but I’m not sure if I can anymore. Who else is he going to take to his bed? Yugi? Malik? Considering how close Seto is to Ryou, it wouldn’t surprise me if he took Ryou into his bed, too. Joey’s brush stopped as he looked at the canvas with shock. What if....Ryou’s baby wasn’t fathered by Bakura? What if Ryou is carrying Seto’s child? Oh my god....
The artist lowered his brush into the water cup beside the easel. Seto has taken Ryou to bed for years when he just needed someone. Why not I? It never bothered me until now. What if Ryou is in that hospital....delivering....Seto’s baby? Oh my god. Would Bakura be as uncomfortable as I? Probably not. I mean, Ryou delivered Aten at the same time as Aria and Aten is most clearly Yami Marik’s boy. Then again, I remember Marik and Bakura arguing over who was the father of Ryou’s baby before they knew it was twins. When they were born, I believe it was a shock to everyone. One baby was pale with white spiky hair. The other baby was clearly Egyptian with white hair with blond streaks. I closed my eyes as I thought of Seto with both of them. Damn you, Seto! Joey opened his eyes and found his paint cans scattered on the floor and the back of his hand red. Damn you.

“I want cherry ice cream,” Ryou moaned as the doctor slipped the needle into his spine. “Ow,” he whimpered holding onto Bakura’s hand.
“Alright, Mr. Bakura, you can roll on your back,” the doctor said.
Bakura and Marik helped Ryou roll onto his back. Marik caressed Ryou’s white hair. “It will take a few minutes for the medicine to work, Ry.”
Bakura leaned over the hospital bed as the nurses placed IV needles into Ryou’s arm. The white-haired yami caressed Ryou’s forehead. “It’s time, baby.” Two pairs of chocolate brown eyes met.
“I’m scared, yami.”
Bakura nodded slightly. “I know. Me, too, angel. When this is all over, you can rest and we can go home with our new baby boy.”
Ryou smiled as he felt everything below his waist go numb. “Our new baby boy.”
The nurses slid a drape over Ryou’s chest, preventing him from seeing Dr. Zira’s arrival and examination of his abdomen.
Bakura caressed Ryou’s cheek. “You will be fine, love.”
Ryou’s eyes wandered to Yami Marik. His vision focused and faded out as he looked at the blond yami hovering over him. “I can’t feel anything,” Ryou said softly. “I’m so tired. Why am I so tired, Marik? Why?”
“It’s the medicine, Ry.”
Ryou sighed as he fought to keep his eyes open. His grip on Bakura’s hand weakened as the medicine relaxed him and numbed the pain.
“Alright, Ryou, we’re going to begin. If you feel anything, let us know.”
Marik and Bakura sniffed the air as a sweet aroma permeated the room.
“What is that?” Marik asked, licking his lips.
“Blood,” Bakura responded.
“Forceps,” Dr. Zira said to his team. “Be careful, folks. This isn’t a routine cesarean. We have to be very careful.”
“I’ve never seen anything like this before,” one doctor said quietly to his teammate.
“Scalpel. This is where we make the incision.”
Ryou looked up at Marik. “I love you, Marik.”
The blond yami smiled. “I love you, too, Ry.”
“We have to hold the flesh back here. Here, more forceps.”
“Blood pressure and heart rate steady,” Katie reported beside Zira.
“You’re doing great, Ryou. How are you holding up?”
Ryou sighed as he kissed the back of Bakura’s hand. “Fine.”
“Good. Keep taking steady breaths. Fetal heart rate?”
“Normal. No signs of distress,” Katie said. “Good so far, Ryou!”
Bakura smiled as he caressed Ryou’s hair. “You’re amazing, Ryou.”
Ryou reached up and pulled Bakura down for a tender kiss. “No, my love. You are.”
“The child seems to be sitting directly on the patient’s bladder. The prostate seems to have been shifted as a result.”
“No wonder I’ve had to pee like a bloody race horse,” Ryou groaned.
“Alright, Ryou, you’re going to feel some pressure, but it is perfectly normal.”
Ryou squeezed Bakura’s hand as his abdomen suddenly felt full. As quickly as the moment arrived, it passed.
A moment later......a tiny, soft little cry emerged from the other side of the curtain. Ryou relaxed against the bed with a smile.
Marik smiled as he caressed Ryou’s hair.   “You did it, Ry.”
“It’s a healthy new baby boy, Ryou,” Dr. Zira said with relief.
Bakura felt himself trembling with excitement. If his instinct was correct, this would be the boy he had not seen in over five thousand years. “Can we see him?”
“Katie, can you allow the Itemris to see their new little bundle of joy after you are done?”
“Sure, Bakura, let me clean him off, record his vitals, and swaddle him.”
“Alright, people, we have to move the bladder and prostate to their original locations.”
Bakura held his breath until Katie walked around the curtain with the swaddled newborn in her arms. “He’s a cutie, Ryou. Just like his mother.”
Ryou opened his arms and looked down at his new son. “My little boy. He’s adorable, Bakura.”
Bakura reached out with a trembling hand and ran his thumb over the whimpering boy’s forehead. He closed his eyes as flashbacks flooded his mind. A dark cell where a baby cried in the distance. A child singing in the darkness amid the tortured screams of prisoners. Yami standing before him with the boy as Bakura was chained helplessly to the wall. Yami cut his throat, leaving the dying two-year-old child at the captive father’s feet. For days watching the dead body of his son lie in front of him. Ultimately, the body was removed and was replaced by ravenous dogs gnawing on bone. I’ve waited five thousand years for you to return to me. I never thought this day would come.
Ryou’s eyes fluttered with exhaustion as he cradled the baby against him. Bakura took the baby into his arms carefully as Ryou slipped into a drug-induced slumber.
Marik offered Bakura the bottle of formula to feed the newborn. Bakura took the bottle and smiled as the baby began to feed. “Good boy.” My treasure has returned.

The sequel to “Soul of the Night” is called “Emergence of the Tombkeepers.” I’m working on the first chapter now and should have it out by the end of the week if not in the next few days.
