Chapter 4 - A Ring and Some Wine

Ryou kept his hair wrapped and his face hidden by a cloth wrapped around his shoulders and neck. He was walking through the crowded stalls and shops without Bakura or Striker's permission and knowledge. It would be dangerous, especially if he lost his hair-wrap. But Ryou would leap into danger for his boss, Bakura.

Ryou had counted five sunrises since he came to live with Bakura's band of thieves. Five days and already the thieves felt more like home than this city ever had. Bakura had treated Ryou has a confident and a pet. “Pet” was the best term Ryou could come up with, since Bakura always patted Ryou's head or stroke his hair. But that was only in private. Bakura didn't dare do such things around the other men.

I must repay Bakura for his kindness to me, Ryou thought. But how? Suddenly he saw a jeweler's stall. Exotic beads, fine gems, golden trinkets of all size and shape adorned the stall. Ryou's brown eyes immediately focused on a ring about the size of Bakura's finger. Atop it was a beautiful blue-green jewel that looked like the Nile's waters.

“Aw, my young friend.” said the vendor. “You like my jewelry?”

“Yessir. They are all wonderful.” Ryou pointed at the ring. “I'll take that please.”

“Excellent choice, young man! They say that this ring has special powers.”

Ryou didn't believe that, but he decided to let the vendor tell his story. “Go on.”

“It is said that when you give this ring to the one who love, then they shall be bonded to you for all eternity.” the vendor said, trying to sound mystical.

You just want me to pay more for it, Ryou thought. I'm not ignorant. “Well, I just want to buy it for a friend. Not a lover. How much?”

“What you got?” the vendor said, his voice turning impassive.

Ryou fished the gold coin out and showed it to the vendor. He looked at it in wonder and bit it to make sure the coin wasn't a fake. “I don't know. Gimme another one of these and—HEY!” Ryou had left with the ring. By the time, the vendor was shouting “Thief, THIEF!” Ryou was already heading out of the city.

Bakura took a big gulp of his wine and surveyed his quarters. Just a bed and a few flat stones for benches or tables. There were two maps that had been rolled up on one of these flat stones. One map was of Pharaoh Atemu's city. The other was of Pharaoh Akunumkanon's tomb. This second map was the most important part of Bakura's plan. It showed every room, every secret entrance, and every dead end of the previous Pharaoh's tomb. Bakura would need this soon. In order to provoke Pharaoh Atemu and his priests, Bakura needed to steal the previous Pharaoh's corpse.

“I've kept this plan from Ryou.” Bakura said as he took another sip of wine. “He may be a thief, but he's still an innocent boy. I can't drag him down with me.”

“Bakura, sir?” said a timid voice. Bakura turned and saw Ryou standing in the doorway.

“What did you hear, boy?” Bakura asked.

“Hear? Of what, sir?” Ryou asked.

“Never mind. What is it?”

Ryou came forward and held up the ring. “I-I-I thought you'd like it. I bought it just for you.” That wasn't partly true. The vendor would have surely changed more, if Ryou hadn't taken the ring when he did.

Bakura looked at the ring and said, “Put it in the treasure room, Ryou.”

“No sir. I bought it for you. It's all yours to wear. I didn't know how else to repay you for taking me in.” Ryou said. “I thought you'd like it.”

Bakura stared into the boy's innocent, brown eyes and then took the ring. He slipped it onto his finger and said, “Thank you.”

Ryou blushed. “I'm glad you like it.” He didn't want to tell Bakura that he'd bought the ring with a coin he'd taken from the treasure room. It probably didn't matter now anyways.

Bakura put his hands on Ryou's shoulders. “Ryou, I realize there is some connection we share. We've both been shunned by the world because of who we are.”

“That's true. We have the same hair.” Ryou said, smiling slightly.

“But there's a difference. There's you and then there is me. You are just a child, an innocent child. Your soul has not found its true path in this life. I, however, have chosen the path of revenge. My soul will not rest until it has tasted the fruit of vengeance.”

Ryou was becoming very frightened. Did Bakura not like him anymore? Did Bakura not want him to be part of the thieves? “Y-You won't kick me out, will you?” His eyes filled with tears. “Please don't, sir. I promise I'll do better. I'll steal tastier foods. I'll steal only the foods you like. Please don't throw me out!”

Bakura gripped Ryou's shoulder tighter. “Calm down, Ryou.” When tears started to slide down the boy's cheeks, Bakura held Ryou close to him.

Ryou stopped crying and felt his cheeks grow hot at how close he was to Bakura's body. He felt weak and his knees buckled. Bakura stopped hugging the boy and supported him. “What's wrong?”

“I…uh…” Ryou's voice couldn't work. The fact that Bakura had held him close was overwhelming. Ryou had never felt so strange about someone before.

Bakura picked him up and set him down on the bed. He held out the wine he'd been drinking. “Here. Take a sip of this.”

Ryou did and he liked the taste. He took another drink and then another. Bakura had to pry the cup from the boy's hands to get Ryou to stop. Ryou laughed and suddenly felt giddy and light-headed.

“The hell is wrong with you, Ryou? You never tasted wine before.” Bakura asked.

“Nope.” Ryou giggled. He held up his hand and touched Bakura's chest. He felt across the muscles, delicately. Bakura forced himself not to groan, but it was hard not to feel pleasure from the way Ryou was touching him.

He yelped suddenly when he felt Ryou grabbed his crotch. Ryou laughed, still a little drunk. He stood with his hand still on Bakura's crotch. The boy stood on his tiptoes and roughly kissed the Thief King's lips, tasting the wine that was still there. Bakura was thrown for a loop. He didn't know how to react to this.

Then he did the only thing he could do. He raised his free hand and smacked Ryou in the head. The boy fell in a drunken heap on the bed. He was out cold, leaving Bakura confused for the first time in his life. Bakura threw down the wine and got into bed beside the unconscious boy. Ryou would sleep for a while…and when he woke up, Bakura would have some fun with him.

—Yeah I'm mean. I'm leaving the chapter there. Don't worry, there's a juicy lemon coming up next. The second Bakura/Ryou lemon that I've ever written. Yay…
