Yu-Gi-Oh! Fan Fiction ❯ Strange Magic ❯ Chapter 5
"Yugi!" Anzu's voice interrupted Yugi's thoughts on the way to school the next morning. "Are you listening to me?"
Yugi looked up to her and smiled apologetically. "I'm sorry Anzu! I haven't listened…I had to think about…things. But now I'll listen!"
Anzu frowned. "What's wrong with you, Yugi? You know, it may help if you talk to someone!"
The boy shook his head, looking down again. "I'm sorry, Anzu…I can't talk to you about that. It's…"
Anzu sighed and nodded. "It's okay." In silence they continued their way.
"Yugi!" This time it was Jounouchi's voice tearing the boy out of his reflections, and he looked up to see his friend standing on the school yard, grinning at him.
Yugi beamed at him, surprised. "Jounouchi-kun! Ah, excuse me, Anzu…" He ran to his friend and stopped a few inches before him, smiling. "You're here already!"
Jounouchi shot him one of the embarrassed grins that Yugi got from him quite a few times. "Yeah…I wanted to see ya." He rubbed the back of his head.
Yugi blushed a little and smiled at him, neither saying anything for a few moments. Finally Jounouchi cleared his throat and addressed Yugi in a low voice, "Is your yami okay?"
Yugi nodded and answered equally as quietly: "He's really confused about a few things in his life. It's about his past. And and…something with the Black Magician." He smiled a little. "Say, Jounouchi-kun… Can we let them meet again? Like after a duel? They have to talk some things out."
His opposite frowned a little, puzzled. "Sure… But someday you gotta tell me what's going on."
Yugi blushed and nodded slowly. "Okay."
This caused his friend's frown to deepen, before his features straightened out again. "So we duel again today, right?" When the answer was an enthusiastic nod from the smaller boy, he added: "And get some more time in that body, okay?" He pointed at Yugi. "Cause you know, I wanna spend some time with you, too." With a slight blush he turned away.
Before Yugi could say anything, the bell rang, calling them to their classes.
On the way to the building, Anzu caught up with them. "What's the matter with you two? Are you having any secrets?" Her expression altered between her usual cheerful smile and a frown.
She was answered by a dual "Nothing."
Jounouchi put down his cards at the end of their duel. "Good one, Yugi!" he grinned. The addressee smiled back at him. "Thanks! You too! You're getting better all the time!" This was met by Jounouchi with a widening of his grin, until he cleared his throat. "Uhm. You wanna summon your Black Magician now, don't ya?"
Yugi let his smile fade and nodded. "Yes, it's better, they have to talk. Yami is really confused."
At his friend's concerned look, Jounouchi nodded. "Alright. So. How do we do this? Just start another duel and summon him?" He paused. "But then there all the other monsters on the field. … Wait. Can they speak at all? I mean, really have a talk?"
Yugi paused, too. Indeed he had never overheard a conversation that included duel monsters. But he remembered his yami's words and explained, "I'm not sure. But Yami says the Black Magician has a will of his own, a personality somehow." He halted once more, not sure how much he was allowed to reveal. "And somehow they were connected in the past and have to talk things out."
"That makes sense. At the last duel - they were just weird," Jounouchi agreed. "Okay, let them have a chat."
Yugi nodded and thought about the method. "Maybe we can just summon him without a duel! I mean, we draw our cards, and I summon him, and then we break up. That should work, shouldn't it?"
"Yeah, why not? So… Let's shuffle the cards, huh?"
Yugi nodded again.
"There he is!" Jounouchi grinned at the magician appearing on the field, then looked over at Yugi. "Uhm. Then… I guess I'll get going…"
Yugi met his glance and nodded hesitantly. "I… Okay… See you tomorrow then?" He looked down. Jounouchi nodded. "Alright." He started packing in his cards.
"Uh… Jounouchi-kun? We can do something together tomorrow after school! Okay?"
"Sure!" After an exchange of grins, Jounouchi waved at Yugi, leaving. "Have fun there. Seeya tomorrow!"
Yugi nodded with a smile. "Thanks, Jounouchi-kun."
With another grin, the boy was out of the door and Yugi, after looking after him for a moment, turned to the field ahead of him, containing only one creature, who now turned around, blinking in confusion. Yugi smiled. His yami was right, it certainly wasn't a normal duel monster. Yami? You can go in now.
