Seto lead Pernia into the study and closed the door so they would have privacy, not that they would need it none of the servants would dare eavesdrop. He sat down on a chair and motioned her to set next to him; he studied her for a long moment, she looked beaten and scared. It was a long time before he finally spoke.
“What gives you the idea that your uncle will disown you pet?” asked Seto, trying to make her see things logically. “Did he come out and say it?” Deep down Seto knew that Pegasus didn't have it in him to disown his niece and only living relative. Still Pegasus did hate him and the feeling was more or less mutual.
“No,” whispered Pernia.
“Then what makes you think he is going to disown you pet?” asked Seto.
“He said if I married you I would regret it.”
Seto frowned, he was certain that the comment was meant more to his persona then to the girl's status in Pegasus' family, but one could never be sure with that nut job. Her arms were wrapped around herself to relieve her body of a cold that only she seemed to have. He sighed and took her ring finger hand in his and kissed it gently. He knew the girl loved her uncle and that was more or less the problem; she also loved Seto and she loved them both equally though for different reasons.
He doubted that she would have the heart to choose between Seto and Pegasus; yet, he wondered who she would follow when the time came for her to decide. Could she break his heart, the heart of the man that loved her the way only he was capable of? Could she break the heart of the man who raised her? Either way he looked he saw that someone's heart would be broken and in doing so she would break her own heart.
If that were so then, would she kill herself to escape the pain of what had inflicted on herself and others. The taboos of their society were endless. You couldn't date someone older then you by so many years. You couldn't date outside your social class. So many you couldn'ts that for the most part were overlooked if you had the right money and a big enough rack. There were also so many double standards.
Seto kissed her hand and pulled her closer to him; she was his. She wore his ring, a symbol of a forming bond, and she also wore his mark around her neck hidden from the world's view, a silver dragon with its wings outstretched prepared to attack and defend and sapphires for eyes. He kissed her forehead reassuringly.
Whatever fate awaited them, he would defend her. Like any dragon would for his lady.
Pernia watched Seto Kaiba, the man she loved, after telling him what her uncle had said. He would know what to do. He always knew what to do. That was one of the things she loved about him; he was always in control and nothing seemed to set him off balance enough that he would loose control. He was stable and firm, like a mountain in a great wind he would never waiver from his chosen path.
She shivered and wrapped her arms around herself and smiled when Seto wrapped his arms around her. “Don't worry,” he whispered, kissing her. “I will always love you, now come on let's head up to bed.” He lead her upstairs to his bedroom where he removed his tank top and pulled the sheets back. He crawled in and scooted over reaching for her; biting her lower lip she slipped out of the skirt and dropped her purse to the ground and climbed in wearing her blouse. Pernia pulled the covers back up over them and snuggled closer to him resting her head on his chest falling asleep to the beating of his heart.
Seto stared up into the darkness of his ceiling when a ringing disrupted the still air. He looked over at his nightstand to check his private phone and frowned it wasn't his phone. Pernia rolled over, moaning softly and checked her purse, picking up the phone.
“Hello?” asked Pernia tiredly. “Arora? Where are you? I am with Seto why? You are going to your aunts? But, that's on the other side of the planet! Why are you going all the way over there? What?! Yes, okay, okay. Don't worry he won't know a thing.”
“What?” asked Seto, rolling on top of her and kissing the back of her neck while she turned it off and put it back in her purse.
Pernia rolled over under him and kissed him slowly. “Arora's pregnant,” she whispered, before continuing. “And she is moving away to California.”
Seto sighed and kissed her forehead. “Come on,” he said, sitting up and pulling her towards him. “Let's go back to bed.”
Pernia sighed and lay down with him resting her head on his chest; and the last thing she thought of before falling asleep once more was what would become of Arora and her child.
Five Years Later_______________________________________________
It was Christmas and the entire Kaiba Manor was decked out in Christmas decorations. Seto scowled at having to host a party with all the losers he hated. Yet, they were friends of Pernia, he never understood how that happened, Wheeler and Valentine were off necking some where and Mouto was starting off into space. Pernia was milling about the room her belly swelling with the pregnancy of their second child, the first having been lost in the second month a year ago.
Seto growled when the Wheeler brats ran circles around him before running off nearly falling over themselves. He rolled his eyes and walked over to his wife when a new voice made its way to his ears. He looked up and saw Arora walking into the room with her daughter Gobaith in tow. He took Pernia's elbow and excused them so he could speak to her alone, or has alone has they could get in a crowded room.
“Why didn't you tell me she was coming,” whispered Seto, in her ear.
“I wanted it to be a surprise.”
“For who? I think Yami is going to have a fit.”
“He is lucky I managed to convince her father that they weren't sleeping together.”
The room fell silent when she entered into the center of the room. The girl had made friends with the Wheeler children and they were running around the room.
“Hello Arora,” said Pernia, kissing her cheek.
“Pernia,” said Arora, hugging the woman. “You look good.”
“Thanks.”
“Arora,” said a new voice.
Arora's smile faltered slightly when she turned around and said, “Yami.”
