Yami and Arora walked out on the balcony leaving the party behind them and closing the door shutting out the music. Yami stared at Arora has she went to stand by the railing wrapping her arms around her body trying to ward off the night chill. The skirt of her black dress fluttered in the wind and her bangs waved about her face. He stood there for several seconds watching the view and trying to decide to be angry or turned on by her beauty. He walked up behind her and placed his hands on her own hands and pressed his body against her back.

“What are you doing here Arora?” he asked, being unable to hide the bitterness and acid in his voice.

“I was invited,” said Arora, turning around and bending backwards slightly to get away from the closeness of him.

“That's not what I meant,” said Yami. “You disappeared five years ago and all of the sudden you show up again with a child in tow. Who does it belong too? Is it mine? Is that the child you were pregnant with when you ran off?”

“Yes,” whispered Arora, bowing her head slightly in personal shame.

“Why?”

“Because, she is a child born out of wedlock between a teacher and his student, who just so happens to be the daughter of a lawyer known for putting people like you behind bars! Can you imagine the stigma that would be placed on her if anyone found out?!”

“So you went off and had her by herself?!”

“Yes.”

“Why?! Did you not think that maybe I would have wanted to be a part of her life too?!”

“Why do you think I came here?! I was hoping to give you two a chance to meet each other and get to know each other.”

“What if I don't want to get to know her?”

“Then you wouldn't be asking so many questions about her and where I was for the past five years,” hissed Arora. “I might have had to finish high school on another continent and I might not have gone to college. But I know you, I know how you think about situations like this. You might not care about the girl you knocked up in College but you care about the child from that union. You might not give a damn about me and that's fine but deep down you can't deny that you don't care about your own flesh and blood.”

“You're right about one thing,” said Yami slowly, pulling away from Arora and walking a few steps away. “I don't care about Haria, but I do care about the son she bore me. However you are wrong about something else.”

“Oh yeah? What's that?” asked Arora, standing up straight and crossing her arms over her chest.

“I still care about you.”

“What?” asked Arora, the shock evident on her face.

“And yes, I do want to get to know our daughter,” said Yami, turning back to Arora and cupping her chin. “I want to start over and make it work.”

“How?” whispered Arora, tears glistening in her eyes.

“I don't know but we will find a way I promise you that,” said Yami, kissing her forehead and wrapping his arms around her waist. “We have all our lives to get it right.”
