Yu-Gi-Oh! Fan Fiction ❯ The Alexandrite Pendants ❯ Ari ( Chapter 1 )
Chapter 1: Ari
Turtle: Let's make this quick. This started as an inside joke between me and my friends. Boring. Blah blah blah. R&R. I don't own Yugioh or anything you might recognize.

Amber's hard, piercing eyes met Duke Devlin's cold blue-green ones. Amber smiled. She picked up her dice and rolled.
Yes, she thought. I rolled the attack crest I needed.
"Go, my beast!" Amber called. "I use my attack crest now! Attack his last heart point!" Her monster obeyed. Amber had defeated the champion at his own game in his own tournament here in Domino City, her home. Duke smiled.
"You won, Amber," he told her. "Congratulations." Duke left the arena without saying another word. Amber smiled.

"Thanks," Amber said to whom was apparently no one as she walked through the deserted park. "You totally won for me. But who are you? What's your name?" She stopped as a girl who looked almost exactly like her materialized next to her. She had Amber's long black hair, reaching halfway down her back. She was Amber's height. But Amber's deep purple eyes were full of innocence, while this girl's lavender eyes were cold and hard.
"Amber," the girl said. "You are good at this game too. I only helped you a little. You found the courage to do this in the first place. You defeated Duke with your strong will."
"We're not talking about me, we're talking about you," Amber snapped. "What's your name?"
The girl sighed. "My name is Arijanna (a/n: Ah-ree-YA-na). But you can call me Ari (a/n: Ah-REE)."
"Ok. Ari," Amber said. "Where did you come from? Who are you really?"
"You don't know where I came from? I have been with you ever since you put on that necklace, Amber. I have been here to guide you. My spirit is bound to your pendant," Ari said, smiling slightly at her.
Amber fingered the dragon-shaped pendant she wore on a thin, twisted silver chain around her neck. It was small and silver with a single eye in the center, made out of alexandrite, but the eye was normally covered in silver, and Amber didn't even know there was an alexandrite on it. Or, for that matter, why it was called the Alexandrite Dragon. "My Alexandrite Dragon? Your spirit is bound to my Alexandrite Dragon?" Amber asked Ari curiously.
"Yes, Amber," Ari replied simply. "Your Dragon is magical, one of seven, I think."
"Oh. But why are you bound to the Dragon?"
"I am not sure, Amber. I believe I did it, but I don't clearly remember why. I don't remember much of my past, only that I lived a long time ago, back in ancient Egypt. I know nothing more than you do, except how to work the Dragon and use its powers."
"Powers?"
"Yes, the Dragon is magical. It allows me to see into people's souls and tell who they really are, as well as seal souls in inanimate objects."
"Oh. Um, ok." Amber glanced around the still deserted park. Ari disappeared. The familiar tone of her cell phone rang out. Amber picked a bench, plopped down, and answered her phone.
"Hello?"
"Hey Amber! What's up?"
"Uh, who is this?"
"Oh, sorry. It's Angel." Amber smiled. Good. She needed a chat with one of her best friends right now.
"Nothing, Angel, how are you?"
"Fine."
"Wanna tell me why you called?"
"Oh, um ok. Do you wanna spend the night at my house Friday?"
"Angel, I'm going to the dance."
"Oh, me too. You going with anyone?"
"No, not at the moment. Why?"
"Good, we can be the dateless two out there. Just ride the bus home with me Friday and we'll show up dateless together. Then you can spend the night."
"Sounds good."
"Ok, see you tomorrow. Oh yeah, congratulations on beating Duke! I knew you were going to though. Oh, and when he asks you to the dance, you can still come home with me and just meet him there."
"Wha-? Angel, wait!" Click. Too late, Angel had hung up. Amber was dazed. Duke is going to ask me to the dance? Amber shook her head. Nah, Angel had to be teasing her. That would be too weird. They were a lot of the same classes and all at Domino High, but the only time they'd spoken was today during the tournament when she had to defeat him. Yeah, that's it, Amber thought. Angel's teasing me. She knows I don't like Duke, and she's teasing me. I'll just go home and go to bed and tomorrow, everyone will be congratulating me and teasing Duke and he'll hate me for beating him on live TV, and my life will be normal…But a small voice inside her was rolling her eyes and saying, Yeah right.

Amber fingered her Dragon, staring off into the distance, not really paying attention to her Geography teacher, who was pretty much never talking about Geography at all. She was still thinking about Ari.
Amber's mother had given her the Alexandrite Dragon when she got back from a dig in southern Egypt. Her mother was an archaeologist. Amber had always sensed Ari was there, but never really realized there was a completely different spirit living within her. She had thought of Ari as another half of her personality.
"So what is the correct answer, Amber?" Her teacher questioned.
"Ummm…" Amber bit her lip. "Madagascar?" she guessed wildly.
Her teacher raised an eyebrow. "Yes, lemurs are known to inhabit the island of Madagascar. Very good, Amber." Amber zoned out again, and Angel had to shake her a few times when the bell rang to bring her back to the real world.
"Hi, Amber," Duke said casually, leaning against the locker next to hers. Amber pretended to be totally concentrated on getting her locker combination right and grumbled "Hi…"
"So, are you going to the dance Friday?" he asked.
"Um, well, yeah, and as part of the Junior Beta Club, I did make the decorations for the dance, so I'm going to see them," Amber muttered, trying to change the subject in a casual manner. She had completely forgotten about Angel's warning. She had been absorbed in thinking about Ari.
"Cool. Maybe I'll see them there. Maybe I'll see you there," Duke started slowly. "Maybe with me?" (a/n: I don't own that line, ok? I stole it from Kim Possible which I don't own so don't sue me, I just had to use that line!)
"Oh, um, are you like, asking me to the dance?" Amber asked.
"Well… yeah," Duke said, looking at Amber hopefully. Amber blushed. What was she supposed to say? She didn't want to dance with Duke, even though it would make her totally popular. Then she grinned. She had an idea. She would go with him, alright. Well, her body would be there, anyway.
"Um... I'll have to think about it," Amber told him.
"Oh, um, ok," Duke said, looking kind of disappointed. He started off.
"Hey, Duke!" Amber called.
"Yeah?" he turned around.
"I thought about it! And the answer's yes!" she called. Duke grinned happily.
"Great! I'll see you Friday!" he yelled.
"This arm's going to the dance Friday. Who wants to be on it?" (a/n: I don't own that either) Amber's friend Kristian appeared beside her and started asking every boy around them to go to the dance with her. Amber shook her head and headed to Calculus.

"Your mom dropped off your stuff in a garbage bag???" Angel asked. Amber shook her head. Her mom was so weird. Yeah, she was supposed to drop her stuff off at Angel's today, but why in a garbage bag?
"She's weird, that's all." Amber dragged her stuff inside Angel's house. They headed up to her room.
"So, what's up?" Angel asked.
"Stop, Angel. I know what you want to talk about," Amber said. "So go ahead and say it."
"I CAN'T BELIEVE YOU SAID YES TO DUKE DEVIN!" Angel screamed. "There. Now that's out of my system."
"So who do you want to dance with, huh?" Amber asked, grinning. She already knew who she wanted to go with. Angel hadn't told her, she could just tell.
"Um, no one…" Angel muttered.
"ANGEL AND MARIK, SITTIN' IN A TREE! K-I-S-S-I-N-G!" Amber yelled at the top of her lungs, laughing.
"STOP IT!" Angel screamed, throwing a pillow at Amber. And so the weekly pillow fight began…
When they had spread enough pillow feathers over Angel's room, they went downstairs and grabbed a quick dinner, then headed back up to get ready.
"Here goes nothin'," Angel muttered as they climbed into the car an hour later, ready and with their tickets and stuff.
Yup, Amber thought. Here goes nothin'.
