Yu-Gi-Oh! Fan Fiction ❯ The Blood of Anubis ❯ Melodies of Life ( Chapter 2 )
Title: The Blood of Anubis
by: spiderweb
Rated: R (for bleeding and this is a dark fic)
pairings: Malik/Ryou, Bakura/Ryou, Marik/Ryou, Yami/Ryou, Seto/Ryou, Shadi/Ryou
summary: AU. Ryou is the most sought after courtesan(whore) and singer in the Blue Eyes bar. Malik is a wanted serial killer...seducing people to their deaths. When two sick and demented worlds meet, what could possibly happen? MR,YBR,YMR,YYR,SetoR,ShadiR.
IMPORTANT a/n: Heh. Heh. No one was able to correctly guess who Osiris is. It's Malik. But then I really wanted to give a prize so I decided to name the first person who had Malik in their list(even if they have other guesses aside from Malik) winner. So…it's tears-chan. ^_^
Let me explain why Malik: It couldn't have been Yami because Yami's nice. He's not the type to be serial killer cause he likes people. It's not Shadi either because Shadi's just…emotionless. He's a stone…he doesn't exactly look like the person who would waste time 'killing'. Seto not fit for the role too. Seto could be an assassin…but not a murderer. Then it's not Yami Bakura simply because Isis plays a big role there. Plus, the dagger used to slit Ryou's throat was the Millenium Rod. So who does that leave? Y.Marikand Malik. Now in the first chappie, Osiris(the killer) admitted he loved Ryou ("My love is yours forever"). Y. Marik, in my opinion, is not capable of emotions like love. Malik, on the other hand, is evil…BUT he is capable of love. He was nice when he was a kid right? So that's my explanation.
THANKS TO ALL REVIEWERS!!!

Chapter 2: Melodies of Life
"It isn't the blood that flows…it's the flesh that gets eaten away…"
*****
If there was any person closer to Ryou than "Osiris", it was his own brother, Bakura. No one loved or provided for him like Bakura did…and no one ever tormented him just as much either.
Bakura was Ryou's sole master.
It was only exactly 7 days after his little brother's death was Bakura able to visit Ryou's grave. Shame and guilt made him hide from the truth of the matter that it was his fault that the person he loved and hated the most was now rotting under the earth. He had been the one to force his own brother into living the life of a whore, lusted after and degraded, clinging to what little 'consideration' society was able to give them.
Kneeling beside Ryou's grave, stroking the beautiful face of the picture plastered upon the marker with grief, Bakura wondered if the first of his tears were enough to make his brother forgive him. He had frequent nightmares wherein Ryou was calling out to him, reaching out his bloodied arms, hating him and wishing to kill him.
In the end, it is never us humans that could define our fate.
A small wilted flower lying on the soft earth caught his eye. He picked it up and studied it in the palm of his hands. It was a lily, Ryou's most favorite flower. The only person to have ever given Ryou lilies when he was alive were Bakura himself…
…And Osiris.
"He's been here." Bakura said softly, standing up. He never could understand the attraction Ryou had to the wanted murderer…and he never could accept it. "That bastard that stole you from me…"
Why is it that when you make love to him, it is always different? Why do you love him more than me?
Soft footsteps came behind him, treading softly in the low grass.
Bakura turned around and faced the intruder, not very surprised to see Isis Ishtar visit the grave of his brother. "You…"
"Me." Isis replied, her voice barely louder than a whisper. Grief had taken most of her beauty. Her once long black hair was now turning a shade of gray. Her eyes had now become dull and void of any emotion. She was thinner than a stick, and she moved slow, like an old woman. Clearly, she was suffering the same grief Bakura was experiencing.
"What do you want?" Bakura snapped at her, still hating her for the mere fact that Osiris' blood also ran through her veins. "You and your brother have taken Ryou from me when he was living! Must you take him even in his death too?"
"No!" Isis declared hoarsely. "I didn't come for Ryou. I came to have a word with you. Everyday I returned to his grave to wait for you…now you've come. Will you please listen to what I have to say?"
Bakura narrowed his eyes. "Why should I?"
"There are some things…"Isis hesitated, and then she sighed and closed her eyes. "…that has been left unclear. You deserve to know the truth."
We make our own truths…that is the worst hypocrisy of all.
"What are you--"
"Ryou never killed himself!" Isis interrupted. As Bakura stared at her in shock, she reached for her robes and produced a crumpled up paper, clenching it in her fists. "This is the proof. Please…listen to me. Ryou would want to have his name cleared in the eyes of his brother."
Bakura thought a moment, then he turned around and faced Ryou's grave. The spirit of his beautiful angel seemed to have appeared, begging him to stay and listen to what Isis had to say. Nodding slightly, he sat down on the grass.
"Speak." He commanded, turning once more in Isis' direction.
The Egyptian girl nodded, as she too, sat down on the grass. She held the paper she was holding close to Bakura's face. "3 days ago, I received this letter from my brother."
Bakura reached for the letter, but Isis snatched it back and once again placed it within her robes.
"What are you doing?" Bakura scowled. "Let me read the letter."
"Not yet." Isis replied calmly. "There are some things you must know first. Things nobody else knows. Some may have pieces of the puzzle, but only to you will I give the whole. Don't ask any questions. Just listen to me for now."
Bakura sneered at her. "Start your tale."
Isis breathed, and nodded slowly. Her tale would clear up not only Ryou's name…but her brother, Malik's, as well.
******(from henceforth unless otherwise specified, everything is in Isis' POV)
Once love takes you, it never ever lets you go. Because once it does, more that anything, you will simply be a shattered doll with no more hope for all eternity. True love comes once in a life time…when it dies, so do you.
I never could understand my brother. Even as a child, he was different from everybody else. His spirit held a sort of rage against the world for all the sufferings he'd experienced. Murdering people was his way of asking for freedom. And I? I,as his sister, never had the heart to stop him.
It was late one Friday evening, when he'd first met Ryou. I can still remember how vivid the night was. He had just done his nightly killing then, in a dark alley way, where another young woman fell victim into his hands. He hated those sort of women the most. The ones that long to be beautiful more than anything, focusing simply on outer beauty and forgetting how dirty they are inside.
After he killed her, the woman with brown hair, he covered himself in his dark cloak and wiped his bloody hands on the alley's wall. I was with him that night, like I always was when he searched for and took preys, and I saw a number of policemen walking in our direction.
"Malik, let's go." I cried panicking, and pulling my little brother to a safer place. He followed, but his eyes were locked on the dead body, flashing with a sort of disgust I'd never seen before.
The police were still coming, so I pulled Malik inside the nearest possible place they couldn't follow us. The Blue Eyes Bar was only across the alley way so that was the perfect place. The bar wasn't very big, but I was a frequent visitor to it, mainly because my friend Seto Kaiba owned it and I get discounts on eats and drinks. It was kind of weird though, as it is one of the prostitution houses the police don't raid. Apparently, Kaiba pays them a large amount to leave his place alone. I knew he hired minors too…but as they say: "Money makes the world go round."
Malik and I entered and sat at the farthest corner of the bar. We had a good view of the stage, where there was always an amusing presentation going on. At that time, it was yet empty, but the customers were screaming for Ryou to come out. Ryou was everbody's favorite performer, he had a beautiful voice and he was very good-looking. After he sings, Kaiba always 'rents' him to the highest bidder for the night.
"Did you think I was afraid of them?" Malik asked me softly, his hood covering most of his face.
"What?" I asked, confused. The lights began to dim around us,and everbody cheered as Ryou stepped into the stage, wearing his usual innocent-looking sweater and pants. Kaiba kept him that way to entice the costumers more…make them wonder on what was beneath those raggy clothing.
"The police." Malik replied. He was still sort of reprimanding me for saving his ass, but I could tell his purple eyes were already on Ryou's every move. "I could have killed them."
I sighed, as one of the waiters, Joey, handed our table a bottle of rum. "I know. But I was worried. Besides, we can have some entertainment here."
My brother nodded, his eyes locked on one place…or rather, person. From the stage, I could tell Ryou was noticing his stares even as he sang, and every now and then, he would look in Malik's direction and they would simply look at each other.
I smiled to myself and found it rather amusing…until my brother stood up at the middle of the song, and strode over to the stage.
"Malik!" I called over to him. But of course, he wasn't listening to me. He never did.
He walked to the stage, keeping his head hidden, and stopped a foot from Ryou. They were looking into each other's eyes again, Ryou having dropped the microphone he was holding. Then quick as a flash, Malik grabbed Ryou's waist and hefting the singer onto his shoulder, proceeded to carry him away.
A ruckus began in the bar as people shouted for him to drop Ryou…and loud whispers of the scandal echoed throughout the place. A few of the security guards ran after my brother, but Malik knocked them away with chairs and whatever things he picked up.
I, on my part, ran after them to the back storage of the bar, slightly worried of what Kaiba might do when news of a stranger taking his most prized possession away reach his ears. I hurriedly locked the door to the storage area, where a single window was the only way out.
"Malik, let's go." I said to my brother, gesturing toward the window as an exit. "Ma---"
I stopped abruptly.
Malik had Ryou pinned against the wall, his arms on either side of Ryou's head, their eyes locked together in wordless communication. Then, before I had any chance to understand what was going on, they grabbed each other and kissed fiercely, as though they had been lovers for years. Their tongues and lips were lashing at each other furiously, neither giving any space or time to breathe. I gaped at them in shock, they just couldn't stop. It was as though they had a longing for each other from way back, even if this night was the first they'd laid eyes on each other.
After a few minutes, in which I was worried as they were nearly tearing each other's clothes off, I heard the running footsteps of about a lot of people hurrying to the storage room. Somebody had spotted us enter and they'd alarmed Kaiba. I could hear his voice from where I was.
"Malik!" I cried, panicking, as I hurried to the window and forced its rusty frames to open. "Let's get out of here!"
My brother and Ryou had finally stopped kissing, but their hunger for each other was still evident in their eyes.
"Don't leave me." Ryou gasped, his hands grabbing onto Malik's cloak.
"You idiot." Malik whispered softly, his brown hand pressing Ryou's head against the wall. "What sort of person do you think I am? To ask of me such a thing…"
Ryou closed his eyes, and my brother bent down to suck lightly on his neck, leaving his mark. Ryou whimpered in pleasure, biting his lip to keep himself silent.
Then, Malik let him go. A dark red mark appeared on Ryou's neck, and Malik kissed that spot over and over again, his tongue tracing lightly against Ryou's throat.
He smirked as soon as Ryou moaned and opened his eyes. "The next time you see me…each time you look deep into my eyes…I will be taking a piece of your spirit away. It will be like death over and over again… my beautiful angel."
"Don't." Ryou panted, his brows furrowed. "Don't call me that. I am nothing like an angel. Both in body and in heart, I am filthy and dirty and---"
"And stay that way." Malik cut in, pressing his lips against Ryou's one last time in sheer ecstasy. "That way, you will be fitting for me."
Then, still smirking, Malik moved away from Ryou's grasp and exited out the window with me, just as Kaiba and his legion of security guards broke down the door and found Ryou alone, standing against the wall, my brother's name on his lips.
I peeked inside the storage room, with Malik already walking away from the bar, to see how things went on with Ryou.
Kaiba was standing in front of him, noticing my brother's mark on Ryou's neck. "Are you okay?"
Ryou looked at him, then nodded. "Yes. I'm sorry I ruined your business for tonight."
"It's not your fault." Kaiba whispered, wrapping his arms around Ryou. "I didn't have the mind to rent you out tonight, anyway."
Ryou looked up at him. "Seto?"
Kaiba smiled, lifting his chin up and kissing his lips gently, as though he were a most precious treasure. "Stay with me tonight?"
I saw Ryou glance toward the window and catch sight of me. I placed my finger on my lips and gestured for him to keep quiet. I saw his eyes smile and the longing for my brother never disappeared.
He turned to Kaiba and wrapped his arms around his neck, initiating another kiss. "Okay."
*****
I came home to find my brother bent on the sink, making himself throw up.
"What are you doing?" I asked him, pulling him from the sink, and looking him straight in the eye. I could see disgust all over his face. "Malik, why are you doing this?"
He pulled away from me and wiped his mouth on a towel, rubbing whatever traces of Ryou's kisses from his lips. "That boy was poison."
I raised an eyebrow at him questioningly. "So why did you kiss him?"
"I felt like it."
I frowned. "Don't play with him! Don't even think of making him one of your victims! He doesn't deserve it."
He glared at me. "It's none of your business, sister. And you know nothing of it either."
"For too long I've stood by you doing nothing when you hurt and kill!" I glared back. "I let you and even helped you when you murdered those who deserved it. But if you lay a single finger on even a single piece of that innocent boy's hair…I will be the very person who would make sure you fall, Osiris. I swear that on the name of Ra."
"He's a whore."
"And you? A murderer. I saw his eyes, Malik. They were nothing like yours. His heart will be purer than yours ever could be."
We stood there. Glaring at each other. I didn't know why I stood up for Ryou. But at that time, when his eyes smiled at me and he kept silent, I knew there was more to him than meets the eye. Like every one of us, he had a story to tell. A story that could change the lives of a lot of people. And I was willing to listen…if given the chance.
Malik lost to me that night, but I knew he wouldn't leave Ryou alone just like that. He was a stubborn nemesis…and Ryou wasn't safe with him. That same night, I made a vow to protect Ryou from my own brother.

a/n: Finally, I finished that chappie! I had trouble thinking up a plot, but I finally did it! So Malik's evil and he just wants to play with Ryou and hurt him…or is that just a way to keep himself from falling in love?
