Anat was a slave; she had just escaped from her captors. She ran through the town, as fast as she could. She could hear them yelling a ways behind her. Soon though, their voices faded into the distance.
"Ack!" she cried as she flew into someone knocking him to the ground. Blindly she got up, and pulled her knife. "I'm not going to let you take me back there!" she said, intent on fighting for her freedom.
Only then did she realize he wasn't after her, she didn't even recognize him, she started to go when he grabbed her. She struck at him, and he caught her with a firm grasp. "How dare you threaten me, of anything, and think you're going to get away with it!" he said in a gruff voice.
Anat looked at him, he seemed angry, and his hold tightened when she started to struggle and she couldn't take it. "Let go I thought you were someone else that's all!" she exclaimed angrily.
He still didn't let go, he looked her over. "A slave?" he asked. "So, you're running away that explains it." "If you even think of taking me back I'll gouge your eyeballs out!" and with that she pulled her self free, holding out her knife for protection. She realized that, he too had a knife ready.
"Ok, I'll make you a deal," he proposed. "We fight," he dropped the knife, "hand to hand, if you win I let you go free, if I win I chose your fate." "Fine!" she said and dropped the knife as well.
Within seconds he had her pinned to the ground. "No!" she cried. "To late," he said "come with me."
He started to walk out of the alley, when he turned abruptly, facing the wall. He then pushed it revealing a door into a narrow tunnel.
Anat followed obediently, only now did she take the time to look at him. He was a tall, muscular guy with white hair. All he was wearing was a skit (what Egyptians wore it's like a white cloth wrapped around the waist) and a long red cloak. And when he glanced back to make sure she was following she saw brown eyes with an unusual scar across the right eye.
"I thought you would turn me in." she said. "Are you going too?" "Most definitely not!" he said. He looked at her like she was crazy. "What is going to be my fate?" Anat asked.
He looked down at the girl; she was wearing a small white dress thing that revealed scared arms. She seemed like a fragile girl, but after the skirmish they had he knew she was tough.
"You won't be their slave you'll be mine." He answered. "But that is stealing." She protested. He stopped and faced her. "You don't know who I am, do you?" "How could I?" she asked.
He stared at her in disbelief. "You don't get out do you?" "No, why?" she asked. "I'm wanted in all of Lower Egypt; I'm the King of Thieves. My name is Thief Bakura, or you can call me Bakura." "I'm Anat; I guess that is why you didn't turn me in, since you would turn yourself in too." She said. "No duh." He said.
They reached the end of the torch lit tunnel. He pushed open a door and they stepped out at the end of town. Bakura led her out in to the desert. They came across a bunch of boulders at the end of an oasis.
The oasis was at the top of a slope that faced the town and she realized could be used for spotting enemies. Also with the addition of the shelter of the rocks, it was a perfect hideout. She knew his place would be somewhere near.
Bakura moved a boulder aside revealing descending steps within the ground. Smart, Anat thought underground where no one would be smart enough to look. He moved aside to let her in. she looked up only to realize that it wasn't a boulder but a hollowed out one, heavy but still light enough for somebody to push aside for a quick escape.
She stepped out in to a beautifully furnished house with weapons lining the walls some hooks were empty. He then took off his cloak to reveal a well-built body and at least a dozen knifes and a sword in a belt around his waist.
He went into a different room that Anat couldn't see. He came out with some mouth watering meat and asked, "Hungry?" "Yes!" she snatched a chicken leg, and started tearing it up. Then she realized Bakura's gaze was on her, she paused, swallowed, and started to eat neater.
"You don't have to slow down, just most girls, and I'd think you were fed by your former master." He said. She scoffed, "he wouldn't have fed me if I was sick with pneumonia." She paused. "You don't normally keep slaves do you?" "No, I was always worried that they would tell the pharaoh where I was hiding." He said. "But, you were too much of a looker to resist."
Anat's eyes widened. He was grinning at her from where he sat. "If you even thin-"She was cut off by his expression, he was wearing a cheesy grin. "I'm just jesting." He said. "But a guy has gotta admit that you've got a nice figure." She scowled at him and finished eating in silence.
"I'm tired can you tell me where I sleep." She asked. "My room of course, the one with the double doors." He said. "The smaller bed is yours." He added, seeing her expression.
Anat went to her room to find a beautiful, black silk pair of pajamas waiting for her. (pants and shirt kind) She changed and went to sleep as soon as her head hit the pillow.
