Yu-Gi-Oh! Fan Fiction ❯ The Heart of the Cards ❯ Epilogue ( Chapter 22 )
Meira: I changed this Epilogue from the original one. The original one was about the Fairies, but I decided not to put that in.
This epilogue is of one hundred years after Selena's duel with Kaiba. It may be a little bit confusing, but I'm using my perspective, and legend.
And thank you to Kage_Yuki for reviewing! I'm sorry I didn't put the name up earlier… I kept on forgetting… -_-`
And yes, after this, The Heart of the Cards is over. *sniffle*

A sixteen year old girl dug in the soil, where the `Domino Museum' once stood, about one hundred years ago.
"Celena!" a boy with brown hair yelled. She turned around.
"Seth!" she waved. He ran up to her.
"Whatcha looking for?" he asked curiously.
"Ruins," Celena replied carelessly, continuing to dig in the soil.
"You mean those `Domino Museum' ruins?" Seth asked, squatting down next to her. "But wasn't that building destroyed… about seventy five years ago?"
"My point exactly," Celena smirked. "You know I love history."
"No," Seth replied, mocking her. "I think you're obsessed with it."
"Whatever," she muttered, and resumed digging.
***
About half an hour later, Celena found something.
"What's that?" Seth asked, peering at the object that was in Celena's hands.
"Not sure," she replied, sweeping some of the dirt off it. "It looks like some kind of a… box…"
"Be careful," Seth warned when Celena tried to pry it open. "Who knows what's in there? It could be anything…"
"You think too much!" Celena laughed. "No wonder you run your own company… and you're only eighteen…"
"Well," Seth scoffed. "I took time off so I could watch you dig."
"And since when do you do that?" Celena teased.
"Since today."
"Ha!" Celena laughed. "I bet that your co-workers made you take a day off, so you used that as an excuse to come see how I'm doing on my research!"
"Is it wrong to see how my cousin is doing?" Seth asked, raising an eyebrow. "After all, you did ask me to fund your research…"
"Are you going to shut up so I can open this box?" Celena snapped.
"Sorry," Seth said, holding up his hands like he was offended.
Celena carefully pried open the box. There was something strange in there…
"What's in there?" Seth asked, peering over Celena's shoulder.
"I'm going to take this home," Celena replied. "Wash my hands first."
"Good thinking."
***
Celena sat down at the table. She had carefully cleaned the box. It was revealed to be a rather beautiful box, with a strange painting on it. Dark, swirling colors, and a weird eye on the lid.
"Let's see what's inside," Seth urged. Celena nodded briefly.
She carefully pried the box open once again. Inside was a slip of paper, yellow with age.
"What's that?" Seth asked, looking at the paper.
"I'm trying to read it!" Celena replied impatiently. She held the paper up to the light. "It says… Thursday, May 28, 2054, Kame Game Shop, Domino, Japan." She looked up. "That was only forty two years ago!"
"Kame Game Shop…" Seth frowned. "That building was where my private office is now."
"What?" Celena asked, aghast. "The Kame Game Shop is gone?"
"It burned down in a fire," Seth replied. "Shortly after the owner… Yugi Mutou, was it? Died."
"Yugi Mutou," Celena thought about this name. "Isn't he that King of Games?"
"Suppose so," Seth shrugged. "Duel Monster cards are so rare nowadays, it's considered rare to even have… a Parasite card!"
"And that was a common card a hundred years ago, right?"
"Yeah… really common."
"Let's go and see what we can find at your office," Celena said, getting up.
***
"Hey," Celena said, standing up. "Did you ever see this before?"
Seth walked over to see what Celena was pointing at.
"No," he replied. "I've never seen that before… it's strange… Isn't that one of those old safety deposit boxes?"
"Yeah," Celena said slowly. "I think it is… but I've never seen a real one before. I didn't think that any of these even existed anymore."
"How do you open this thing?" Seth asked, poking at it. It was painted strangely, in the same design as the box.
"Maybe there's something in here." Celena looked inside the box. She frowned.
"Something wrong?" Seth asked.
"There's something in here," she whispered, prodding at the bottom of the box. Slowly, she dug her fingernails into the side, and lifted up a thin block of wood.
A secret compartment.
"Look at this," Celena whispered, pulling out a card. "'Yami.' Strange… this is a field card. Aren't field cards some of the rarest cards?"
"Yeah," Seth replied. "I didn't know that any of them even existed anymore. Isn't… Yami the rarest one? The one that powers up dark monsters?"
"Suppose so," Celena replied. "Let's try to use this card to open up the vault."
She slowly slid the card through the drive recognition slot. The light went from red to green.
"It works!" Seth said joyfully.
Celena ignored him. She slowly pulled the door open to reveal a load of smoke coming out.
"This stuff is the preservative that they used back then," Seth said, looking at the smoke.
"I think ours works much better," Celena remarked, shaking her head.
"What's in there?" Seth asked, trying to look inside the vault.
"Look," Celena said, her voice filled with shock. She pulled out a box similar to the one that was buried in the ground. "This looks so much like the box that we found."
"Yeah…" Seth whispered.
Celena carefully opened the box. "Look at this," she whispered, holding up a necklace with a weird Key symbol on it. "What is this?"
"Hey!" Seth said, looking inside the box. "Aren't those duel monster cards?"
"Yeah," Celena muttered, looking inside the box. She flipped through the cards. "These are some of the rarest cards in all of Duel Monsters! Dark Magician, Dark Magician Girl, Raigeki, Hinotama, Tribute to the Doom…" She looked up. "There aren't any more of these cards around. These must be the only ones left in the world!"
"But who did these belong to?" Seth asked, sitting down on the ground.
"There are some newspaper clippings in here," Celena said, pulling out some newspapers from the safety deposit box.
"Selena Hisaki wins North American Championship, Selena Hisaki Stars in Movie, Selena Hisaki-" Celena broke off as her eyes widened.
"What's up?" Seth asked, glancing at Celena.
"Selena Hisaki is Killed in Car Crash," Celena whispered.
"Who is this… Selena Hisaki?" Seth asked, curious.
"She's North American Champion," Celena replied. "It's right here in this article. Along with a picture of her." She glanced at the picture.
"You look exactly like her," Seth whispered.
"Yeah…"
"So these cards belonged to Selena Hisaki…"
"These are probably over a hundred years old!"
"Who would go to the trouble of preserving these cards?"
"There's something else in here…" Celena pulled out a sheet of paper.
Dear Reader,
It has been exactly five months since I have acquired these cards. They were left to me by my good friend, Selena Hisaki.
I could no longer take care of these cards… It has been far too long since Selena actually entrusted me with them.
I know that by the time this vault is finally opened, it will have been at least a century since Selena last used these.
Truth be told, Selena never died in a car crash, as you might have read in the newspaper clippings.
She sacrificed herself to save this world… but nobody but her closest friends know that.
There is one card left to complete the deck that Selena left.
The Sorcerer of Dark Magic.
I will leave you here… and if you truly are linked to Selena, as she prophesized, then I trust you will have no trouble finding this card.
I now trust you with these cards… as Selena did with me so long ago.
Thank You.
Yugi Mutou
"You realize what this is?" Celena asked excitedly. "This is a letter from Yugi Mutou, asking us to complete Selena's deck!"
"Yeah…" Seth said slowly. "But where are we going to find a `Sorcerer of Dark Magic' Card? Isn't that… like really, really rare?"
"We should have no trouble," Celena said quietly. "But do you know what this is?" She held up the necklace.
"The Ankh," Seth replied. "That was the basics that I had to learn when I went to Egypt a long time ago."
"But what does it mean?" Celena inquired.
"Eternity," Seth replied simply
"C'mon," Celena muttered. "We'd better get going… this deck needs to be completed."
"I see no point in it," Seth said.
"I don't know why…" Celena said slowly. "But somehow… I feel like I have to do this."
"Then I'll help you the entire way," Seth grinned.
As they turned to leave, Celena could swear she heard somebody whisper a word, but she didn't understand the meaning then, and she never will.
Yami.
