Yu-Gi-Oh! Fan Fiction ❯ The Reincarnation of Ephemeral Existence. ❯ Chapter three ( Chapter 3 )
~ ~ ~
Yugi was ahead of the blur that moved toward him, but only because he had a head start. The human drew one of the Glocks and flicked the safety off. He pulled the trigger
The gunshot sang in the whistling wind as the bullet took the vampire right between the eyes.
The corpse fell off the building and downward. Yugi didn't want to know what happened after that, the images of vampire splattered sidewalk were not pretty.
Yugi looked back ahead of him as he continued to move. His legs were jelly like and terror was like a coppery scent in the air around him.
"Please, let me just get off this ledge and back onto solid ground, I swear, if I can do that… everything will be fine and dandy… Kami…" Yugi whispered under his breath as he inched further ahead.
There was more shouting behind him, but he was so close… just fingertips away from the edge of the building.
The yelling right behind him almost startled him, but the thing that surprised him was when he saw a giant transparent hand come out to grab him.
It scared the shit out of him.
Luckily he didn't jump, that would have made him scream, but he did hug the wall closer.
Yugi didn't see the shield that formed around him from the Millennium Puzzle, but he felt it. The hand came up short and halted against the magic, before falling away.
"What the fuck was that?" Yugi wondered. The human couldn't see magic, he shouldn't see magic.
But was else explained a giant transparent hand? A giant ghost? Well, he could see ghosts, but…
And the Millennium Puzzle had protected him? Was that a quirk of having it? Until the wearer made their wish no magic would touch them?
The yelling behind him reminded the human he didn't have time to huddle close to a wall and wonder about what was happening to his eyes and strange abilities and all the rest of it. Now was the time for locating grounds to fight on, not for wondering! Swallowing he inched forward more, hand sliding around the corner ahead of him and searching for a hold.
Gripping the cold cement in a death grip and swallowing down all kinds of terror he moved his foot around and felt around. He encountered solid cement right under his foot.
This was reassuring he thought.
He pulled himself past the edge in a quick jerk.
There was a precious moment in which he thought 'oh fuck!' before he toppled backwards as the small space; only big enough for one foot became apparent and the lack of ledge after that point also made it self known.
Then he was falling and he was past thinking about the stupid ledge and its evilness.
The gut wrenching, throat tightening, terrifying sensation was something that left all dreams about the act of falling to shame.
It was beyond terrifying, it was panic material.
Levitate.
Levitate.
Levitate.
Fuck, Kami, I swear I'll meet destiny with open arms and lack of weapons if I could just start floating right about now, he whimpered mentally.
Levitate.
Oh, High ones, this is not one of my top ways to die.
He couldn't scream, he could only thrash and feel the impending doom rushing up to meet him. Screaming required vocals, and vocals were just a touch too squeaky to accomplish.
Was this his end?
Was this how he would die?
Splat?
Levitate.
Levitate.
"Levitate." He commanded deeply.
Again magic brewed to life in his words.
He just stopped falling.
The action was so sudden that he felt as if he should be thrown down a little or up a bit before coming to a smooth halt.
But there was no jolt; he simply stopped in mid air.
Yugi shivered as he stood, eight stories from the ground and standing in mid air.
"… What the hell is wrong with me? Shattering glass with a thought? Seeing magic? Levitating for Christ's sake?" He swallowed as something occurred to him.
While it was all well and good not to be falling to his certain bloody death…
"Oh shit, how am I going to get down?" he muttered.
Truly, this day could get a lot better, the little voice in the back of his head said.
He swallowed and inched his foot forward a little. He didn't even falter in the air.
He shifted his foot a little more.
No problems.
He took a step.
There was not even a stir from the magic that held him up.
Yugi breathed slowly and evenly as he walked across the air to the window of the next apartment building. The moment he touched the sill, whatever magic that had held him cut out and he stumbled, leaning against the window pane.
Yugi swallowed. Although having magic that came out whenever he was in an emergency seemed like a good idea, he wanted to know who was casting it and why.
The human shook his head and smashed the window in. He wasn't about to steal anything, but he really didn't have time to be gentle.
Yugi crawled through the opening, realizing he still held the Glock in his hand and put it away. He should have asked about laser pistols, Glocks must have been so old.
There was something comforting about having a weapon he was familiar within reach, though.
The apartment Yugi broke into was stylish and odd. The walls were black and so was all the furniture, but everything was floating or rotating in place. It was like looking at a black pinwheel. Strangely cool, yet devoid of color.
Shaking his tricoloured hair the boy walked through to the other side of the room and opened the door.
He scared the shit out of a teenager in punk clothing that had just pulled her keys from her bag to open the door.
Yugi smiled. "Don't worry, I didn't rob anything, I just fell 12 stories and your apartment was the closest to climb through. I would offer to pay for the window but there are a bunch of vampires chasing me and I've been in a sleep for the last 730 years so I really don't have the time or the means. Gomen." He smiled and walked past her.
Either it wasn't so outlandish that the girl believed him, or she was too shocked to do anything, but Yugi was glad that he wasn't suddenly shot at by the resident's owner.
It was pleasant to have at least one person who didn't 'want' him.
The human was just getting to the stairs when he heard screams above him and the sound of breaking glass.
The vampires!
He began trotting down the stairs, making his leg muscles ache as he jumped and twisted past the railings.
His body was out of condition; this wasn't a good thing.
He would have to be at his peak before he faced Yami and the other 'priests'.
Yugi reached the ground floor and was out the doors and into the night air in what felt like a blur. He began running the moment his feet hit the pavement. His lungs wheezed with the effort and his muscles contracted as he forced them to turn and run.
Every ten steps was one for the vampires chasing him. But if he could stay those few hundred steps ahead…
The paving stones were large slabs of cement and it took three steps to clear each one of them, Yugi had run past six buildings and already his body was ready to fall to the ground and give up.
"Step five. Do not tire until your enemy is dead or heading that way steadily." He murmured to himself. The familiarity helped him run, helped him keep his aching legs moving, helped him continue wheezing air into his lungs. Continue moving.
There were shouts behind him and once or twice he felt the coil of magic from the Millennium Puzzle lash out to stop spells from hitting him.
The vampires, without the advantage of magic didn't have much of a chance of stopping him.
'whee! No more sleeping!' the little voice in the back of his head jeered.
Yugi grunted and pounded along the pavement.
People, he needed a big crowd, lots of-
Yugi stopped as he saw a motorbike. It was an unrecognizable make and model, but as he drew closer, he loved it instantly.
"Stealing isn't on my to-do list, but I need a ride and oh gods, I want this one." There was no computer on the bike, but he had a feeling the jets instead of wheels did more that just look weird.
There was shouting down the end of the street not too far behind him.
He didn't have much time!
Yugi took a quick scan for the owner, and not spotting any; jumped onto the machine.
There was no keyhole but there was something that looked like it took a card. Yugi shrugged and inserted his ID card.
The bike gave several clicks before it suddenly came to life. Yugi grinned. Fake ID's, always useful, despite being against the law and he would never hear the end of it if Jou found out he was stealing a bike and had broken an entering, but hey, was it stealing when the bike accepted you?
Yugi had good reasoning for everything, though.
It was all Yami's fault.
And it was… sort of, well, okay, so maybe he wasn't the nicest person to the undead, but his main goal in life was to kill every last bloodsucker, so he thought them surviving an encounter with him was quite nice.
I'd like a few more encounters with Yami, maybe some handcuffs and cream, mmm… the little voice in Yugi's head was rewarded with a stern glare. "Shut up." He muttered to it, still too out of breath to think about bashing the shit through the voice.
Yugi located the gas pedal and took off, straight up until he worked out how to steer and leaned across.
The vampires were long gone. And so they should have been, it wasn't like vamps could fly, now was it?
Riding the hover bike was like a dream, the engine roared beautifully beneath him and the whole thing vibrated just slightly, he was actually getting aroused! The feeling of having a powerful animal beneath him made the human relax into the seat softly. Okay, so arousing wasn't true, but it was a feeling of pleasure to be riding away into the dawn that he felt flood over him.
"Okay, I'll need somewhere to sleep the night, then to get in condition; I'm worthless if I can't run a block and a half. I'll also need to secure a job if it takes too long to get in sha-whoa!"
He hit the traffic and almost ran face first into a truck.
~
Navigating through lanes that didn't seem to actually exist was a living hell and Yugi was sure people were driving far too close on purpose.
When he finally got out of the swell of noise and moving metal a giant clock told him that it was two thirty in the morning. Traffic just didn't know when to sleep.
Tired for once he descended; rolling along the streets to look for any abandoned ware-houses to spend the night.
The sound of another bike caught his attention. One street away he saw a sleek white bike drift by.
He couldn't help it!
It had been ages since his last race and Yugi wanted to see if he could face off against a more experienced hover biker.
It wasn't long before he caught up with the white bike. The model was unremarkable, and the way the bike purred was exceptional, Yugi wanted to find out about the makes and models these new bikes were the moment he got the chance, but right now; it was time to express 730 years of racing ego denied!
~ To be continued…
Sweet notes: lol! Reviews? I'm worried about who the white rider could be. Although, I have an inkling as to who it'll turn out to be. Mmm, I'm expecting sex soon, too. ^^
