Ch. 19: Attack on the Palace
~Egypt: Throne Room~
Atem slightly got up from his throne and looked as though he heard something.

“Is something wrong, Pharaoh?” Siamun asked.

“No…” Atem said as he sat back down. “It's nothing…” At that moment, a group of people came up through the entrance.

“It looks like the priests are back from the city.” Siamun said as the two priests bowed in front of their king.

“We have returned, Great Pharaoh.” Seth said and continued. “We were unable to confirm Bakura's death… But we have strengthened the guard. Not even a mouse could get into the city. Its peace is secure.”

Shada and Akhenaden secretly knew what really happened.

“You say that…” The Pharaoh said. “But I have a bad feeling about this.”

Seth looked as though the young ruler was onto him, but wasn't worried about it.

`I heard a voice…' Atem thought. `Trying to tell me something… from my Millennium Pendant.' He got up and told everyone that he liked to be alone at the moment. He headed to his bathing chambers and entered through the doors he took off his cape when he heard a sound of someone emerging from the water. He looked over only to quickly look away when he recognized who it was. `What is she doing here?!' He thought.

Heba was in the bathing chambers and only her head and shoulders where seen. (Imagine what you usually see in PG-13 movies) `Mana was right about the bathing quarters. It's so relaxing.' She thought as she rubbed the water on her arms when she sensed something. She turned to see nothing but she headed out of the water. “Now, where are those towels?” She said to herself when she noticed a dark purple cloth. `That looks like…' She looked surprised. “Atem… are you here?”

“Behind you.” Atem responded and she turned, only to see that he was looking the other way.

“Atem…”

“I didn't know see anything, I swear! Well… maybe just your back, but that's all I saw!”

“Would you hand me a towel?”

He looked to see a pile and grabbed one before handing it to her.

“Uh, Atem… this is a wash cloth.”

He completely blushed and quickly grabbed another towel and handed it to her.

“Thank you.” She said as she wrapped it around herself. “It's okay to look.” She said, making the other hesitantly look back.

`Thank the gods she's flat chested.' He thought before he mentally punched himself for even thinking of that. But the way she looked made up for the lack of it, which made it a little difficult for him.

“Is everything alright?” She asked.

“Uh… Yes! Just… uh… need to take my bath now!” He said quickly as he went in with his clothes on. `Ra damn it! Why does she have to be so damn attractive for an innocent?!' He thought while he stayed underwater until the need of air became known. `I envy the fish.'

“Atem!” She said, dressed in a simple dress and sitting at the edge of the bath. “Are you okay? You were down there for a long time.”

“I-I'm fine!” He said, relieved that she has clothes on.

“Would you like to talk now, or do you still need time?”

He looked confused.

“Remember, earlier today, you helped me get to the sorcerer's study.”

“Oh!” He remembered and wager whether or not to talk to her. He sighed and went up to her and talked about Mahado and how they met when they were kids and told her that he was a very dear friend to him. “I know he isn't truly dead, but it still hurts to know that one of your closest friends is gone from your sight.”

She stared at him for a moment before jumping into the water and, before the other could say anything, hugged him.

He was completely speechless when she did that, but it did make him feel a little better and held her as well. `Thank you… Heba…' He thought as a few tears came down his face.

~At the Shrine of Wedju~
Akhenaden stood in the center of the shrine and looked like he was in deep thought.

“Lord Akhenaden!” Seth said, making the mentioned elder look.

“Seth…”

“My report… the ka hunt in the city went much better than expected. As I thought, there were many people in the city hiding superior ka.”

“You mean you arrested them?”

“Just today we found about twenty. They've been confined to the prison tower. The Pharaoh won't find them… he never goes there.”

Akhenaden looked shocked. “Seth… It's not too late… Let those people go! Otherwise, we will start down the path of darkness. Sin creates fear in one's heart, fear leads one to endless darkness!

“Fear… Faced with the threat of the fall of the dynasty, an ordinary person might well be afraid. But what about this? What if I found a person with a ka to rival the gods?”

`WHAT?!' Akhenaden thought. `A ka to rival the god!?'

“Right now, it is like a baby whose heart has just begun to flutter… but eventually that heartbeat will become a mighty pulse that will shake the heavens. The one who holds that ka is a woman… She's very weak, so I'm letting her rest. As soon as she regains her strength, I plan to find a way to draw the greatest amount of power from that ka. I'll use the prisoners from the city to research the best way to do that. I'll torture them in any way I have to… I'll come back when I can show it to you. When I can show you… the White Dragon.”

Akhenaden was completely shocked at what everything Seth said. `A White Dragon…?!' He thought as he fell to his knees. `I'm getting afraid… more and more so… Is this the temptation of the Millennium Eye? By the gods Seth, you are trying to commit the same sin I once did…' He covered his Millennium Eye with his hand. `My son…'

~Somewhere in the Palace~
Shada walked down the halls with a heavy thought on his mind until he bumped into Heba.

“Oh! Evening Shada-sama!” She said.

“Oh… evening Heba.” He said.

She looked at him before saying. “Is everything alright? You seemed to be concerned about something.”

He was, but he doesn't want to admit it, not wanting to trouble her. “Don't worry about it Heba, it's nothing for you to worry about.”

Heba looked doubtful, but nodded. “Very well then Shada-sama.” She said as she turned to walk down the halls.

At that moment, his item began to react. `What?' He thought as he lifted his item and looked at Heba, who stopped to look at a pot that was newly crafted. `Millennium Key, show me her soul.' He thought. He saw the Pharaoh, glaring at him as he held a sleeping girl. `What is this?' He thought when Heba stirred and opened her eyes half way, only it wasn't her. Her body slightly glowed which made the Pharaoh wrap his arms around her tightly, making her go back to sleep. `Her… ka…?' He thought as he felt a gentle shove for him to get out of her soul. He found himself back in the palace and saw Heba, who looked distant for only a moment before looking confused and continued to walk down the halls. `Amazing…' He thought. `More amazing than the girl with the White Dragon… The ka hides itself within her soul… making it so hard to pick up unless it's like now… But why was the vision of the Pharaoh there? Unless…' He looked as thought he figured out a complicated riddle. `It's starting to make since now…'

~Outside the Palace~
Bakura waited behind the statue in front of the palace gates. “This time I attack at night… like a thief should. They've certainly increased the guard… But it's nothing for me… a hundred guards and a hundred walls couldn't keep me out.” He said as he walked out where the guards could see him, only the guards looked confused.

“Wha-?”

“Who's there?!”

Footsteps were heard and the guards were looking at each other. “Are we hearing things?”

“No it's definitely footsteps…”

What they don't know was that Bakura was only a few feet behind them as he smiled as he thought. `When I took the Millennium Ring, my spirit Diabound gained a new power. The scales covering its body instantly change to match its surroundings! It hides me from these soldiers' eyes…!' He threw a hook and climbed onto the statue which leads to the top part of the wall. `Last time I was reckless. I wanted all the Millennium Items, so I tried to take on the Pharaoh and all the priests at the same time… This time, I'll take the cautious route. I'll kill them one at a time…' He eyed the shrine. `First, the Shrine of Wedju…' He entered the shrine which alarmed Akhenaden.

Who's there?!” Akhenaden said then noticed the Millennium Ring. “The Millennium Ring…” He then thought. `So Mahado was…!!'

“Oh yes…” Bakura said as he climbed the steps. “I killed a priest in Akhenamkhanen's tomb… This ring is my spoils of war! And now, I've come to get some more… I've got to collect them all… All seven of them.”

“I won't let that happen!!” The elder priest shouted. “How dare you enter this holy place!! As the guardian of the stones, I will defeat you!! Monster ka sealed within the stone slab…” He called and a stone slab started to glow.

“Oh right…” The thief said. “Because you have a Millennium Item, you can summon ka from the stone slabs, can't you? But… My Diabound is much faster!” As soon as he said that, the stone slab was destroyed.

“What!” He said and thought. `The stone broke from within! His evil spirit is already hiding within the walls!'

Diabound continued to destroy some of the stone slabs in the shrine. “You're too slow, old man.” Bakura said. “Before you can summon even one ka from the stone slabs, Diabound will tear this temple apart!”

`No…'

Bakura smiled like a madman as he thought. `Now that I've drunk the power of the ring, I'm invincible!' He held out his hand and somehow lifted the elder priest from the ground and pushed him to a wall! As soon as he done this, Diabound appeared visually and was uglier than the last. “Now… Do I kill you, or do I let you live…? I'll let you decide…”

~Meanwhile: Isolation Tower~
Seth walked down the dark, dimly lit halls until he saw two guards. “Lord Seth!” One said.

“What is the woman's condition?” Seth asked.

“She's still asleep…” The guard responded. “The doctors say she will recover with rest.”

Seth entered the room where the young woman was asleep. `Lady of the White Dragon…' He thought. `How much pain must color your blue eyes before the dragon is released to the heavens? I will make the White Dragon my servant, not matter what… even if I must sacrifice the life of the wielder.'

~The Pharaoh's Quarters~
Atem lifted the pendant up and thought. `I'm getting a bad feeling… a premonition from the Millennium Pendant?' At that moment, two men came in.

“Great Pharaoh! Terrible news! We found some corpses in a tavern, ripped to shreds! The blood is still warm!”

“We think Bakura did it!”

`Bakura!' The young king thought. `I knew it, he must be near!' Then he realized something. `Oh no! Heba!' He looked at the men. “Both of you! Go and find Heba! If Bakura is indeed alive, then he might've found a way to get into the palace. I don't want her to get mixed up into this!”

“Yes sir!” The men said as they ran out.

~Back at the Shrine~
Akhenaden looked horrified while Bakura grinned.

“It would be easy to kill you right here and take your Millennium Item… but what if I could get you to work for me? This Millennium Ring can infuse objects with a part of it's owner's soul. What would happen if I sealed my evil will into your Millennium Eye?” The thief said as he looked excited. “You'd become my pawn.”

N-Never!” Akhenaden said. “I am loyal to the Pharaoh! You can't control me!” His item glowed. “I summon a ka from the stone slab!!” A slab glowed and a dog-like monster was half-way out before Bakura said.

“I'm sick of these wimps!” His monster used a fireball attack and destroyed the monster. “I could tear you limb from limb right here, but that wouldn't be enough… It wouldn't make up for Kul Elna.”

`Kul… Elna…' The elder priest thought with a shocked look.

“You can still hear them, can't you? The death screams of Kul Elna, the village of thieves… I am the sole survivor of that village of Kul Elna…”

Akhenaden was completely shocked and scared upon that information.

“Now…” Bakura continued. “This city too, will drown in blood, and you'll be the one to spill it… As you become the ruler of the shadows!”

Akhenaden was really scared and a scream was heard when we see the outside view of the shrine.

Heba happened to be in the area of the shrine, deciding to check up on Akhenaden, and ran up, only to face the thief.

“You again?!” He said as his hand was covered in blood.

“You're Bakura, aren't you?” She said.

“You don't remember me?” Bakura said with a deadly grin. “Too bad… You've seemed to be living well, mind being bait?” He ran up and she screamed.

~Meanwhile~
Atem heard Akhenaden's scream and ran to the nearest balcony, only to hear a second scream. `That sounded like Heba!' He thought when he looked out, he saw Bakura. `It's him! Bakura!' He noticed that the thief was carrying something.

Bakura saw the young king as he ran out and thought with a smile. `One of your priests is mine now and I got your little girlfriend… Now what Pharaoh? The fall of your kingdom has begun! As well as the end of this bitch's life.' He purposely showed the young king the girl, who's unconscious, which made the other surprised and alarmed.

~Somewhere close by~
Seth was walking out of the tower when a guard came up. “Lord Seth, come quickly! In the Shrine of Wedju! Lord Akhenaden…” He then continued what happened, which shocked Seth.

What?!!

~Somewhere on the grounds~
Bakura was here!!” The guard shouted. “He's still hiding somewhere in the palace! Find him!” A guard on a horse said as he looked around him as Bakura appeared on the edge of a rooftop and grinned. “Call the guard back from the city and surround the palace!”

Yes sir!

The thief then surprised attacked the guard on the horse.

~At the shrine~
Shada and Kalim went into the shrine and found Akhenaden on the ground, who was out cold and there was blood down to where his item occupied his left eye.

“Lord Akhenaden!” Seth called as he ran up to Shada and Kalim.

“It's all right,” Kalim said. “He's just unconscious.”

`Bakura…' Seth thought. `That scum… First Mahado and now Lord Akhenaden…'

“It looks as if he tried to steal the Millennium Eye…” Kalim said. “But then left without it…?”

“Bakura is still nearby!!” Seth said. “Find him!!

~Near the Palace Gates~
“You there! Stop!” Said a guard while Bakura rode off towards the gates, laughing.

“Don't let him pass!” Said another guard as the others blocked the thief's way to the gates.

Bakura smiled as a ring of explosion came, tearing the guards to pieces. “Anyone who gets too close is bait for Diabound!” He said as his monster appeared. He laughed until he looked behind him and saw the young king, also on a horse, chasing after him. He smiled as he thought. `The Pharaoh…!'

`You won't escape this time, Bakura!' The Pharaoh thought. `Hear me, God of Egypt!'

In the shrine, a stone slab of a dragon glowed.

“One of the three god stones!” Shada said as Kalim thought.

`Great Pharaoh!'

A burst of powerful energy came out and materialized into a huge red and black dragon with a snake like body and two mouths.

`Slifer the Sky Dragon!' The Pharaoh summoned.

Bakura grinned. `So the Pharaoh himself is coming out to fight…' He thought.

`I won't let you shed any more innocent blood!'

`That's right, Pharaoh… Follow me to your doom!'

Feeling sad and lonely
Cause I can't find you
Call your telephone
Ad there's never no answer
Said you love me
Kissed me
We were in heaven
Said I'm sorry
Love you, want you forever

Every night I look at the sky
Call your name
And wonder where you are
Every night I look at the sky
Baby, miss you
Won't you come back
