Ch. 42: I'm Going Too!

~Ancient Egypt: Valley of the Kings~

Yugi was sound asleep when she was shaken awake. “Huh?” She said as she lazily looked around. The sky was slightly dark, since the sun isn't up, and she felt wet by the morning dew. “Are we there?” She asked.

 

“Just about.”

 

Her eyes widened by the reorganization of the voice. “Atem?!”

 

The guide took off his cloak to reveal the mentioned young man, which by that time the sun's rays began to hit in their direction. “Surprised?” He asked.

 

“Very.” She said. “But… shouldn't you be at the palace? Not that I'm glad to see you. I mean-”

 

Atem placed a finger on her lips to silence her and chuckled. “Let me explain…”

 

^Flashback: Atem's POV^

After talking to Yugi and did the final meeting with the new, I had but one last thing to do… I went to the duel practice room, where Seth was waiting for me.

 

I'm not going into detail about our duel, but after that, we overheard the three girls talking.

 

Seth then headed down the hall.

 

“Going to your successor?” I asked, knowing well what he's about to do.

 

“Where else?” He said without looking at me. “You should be ready… After all, the people will be shocked to hear about your departure.”

 

I nodded, knowing this as he continued down the hall.

 

Before I headed to my room, I blew a kiss for Yugi as I walked down the hall, thinking. `It's never goodbye…'

 

Next morning, before the sun was up, I summoned a guard to wake Seth and let him wake Yugi, while he goes to the stables and wait for them with two horses. I watched from one of the balconies as she and the guard rode off to the port I told him to go, and then I got ready for the speech I was to announce as the heavens was getting lighter by the second. I then headed to the one balcony where I saw the villagers, eagerly waiting for what was to be announced.

 

On my right, I have Seth and Isis with two new priests, and on my left I have Mana and two other priests. I won't go into too much detail, but I can tell you the shocked faces of the villagers. But when I handed my Millennium Pendant to Seth, they cheered to their new king, Pharaoh Seth.

 

I didn't stay long after that… instead; I went to the stables where my `new' clothes stayed. When I was dressed in my new outfit, I went out and blended in with the crowd as I quickly went up to the ports where I saw her.

 

The guard that was with her, recognized me and took off. I then bowed to her, thinking back to what she said when she overheard what the priests said yesterday, and got up while mentioning her to come along.

^End of Flashback: Normal POV^

 

“And you could guess the rest.” Atem said as they glided along the current.

 

“So… What's the reason to going to the Valley of the Kings?” Yugi asked.

 

“There's a special tomb that allows spirits that couldn't rest for whatever reason to go when they are ready to go to the Afterlife.” He explained. “But in our case, it's to allow us to go through time.”

 

Yugi looked surprised by this. “It will lead to my time?”

 

“Yes, though, when we enter, we will exit, and, if the tomb hasn't been disturbed, would look the same as we entered… Do you understand what I mean?”

 

“We go in and come out at the same place only at my time. But I don't understand something.”

 

“What's that?”

 

“You used a lot of `we'. Does that mean you're coming with me?”

 

“No, I'm going to drop you off and join some traveling dancers. Of course! Why else would I be here?”

 

She was silent only for a moment “So it is true…” She said it a little sadly.

 

He was a little lost. “What it true?”

 

“About the Atem in my time…”

 

He knew what she was talking about and sighed. “Yugi…” He said as he held her hand, which made her look up at him. “I just don't want you to feel like you've lost hope. I love you Yugi, more than anything. And that's why I'm here with you, and why I'm coming with you to your time.”

 

She hugged him as tears fell from her eyes. “I love you too, Atem… and thank you.”

 

He returned the hug and stayed like that for a moment before looking up and knew they had to get off soon.
