Ch. 43: Home Again

~Deep in the Valley of the Kings: Ancient Egypt~

Yugi and Atem were talking about what her time is like.

“The buildings are how big?”

Yugi sighed. “Must we go on that subject again?” She asked.

“You, five millennia ahead of me. As for me, the biggest and tallest building I know is the palace. So don't blame me for not knowing that the buildings in your time are even taller then the pyramids!”

She giggled. “I know, I know. It's just that you asked about that for the fifth time.”

“Really? Wow, I must really be in culture shock.”

That made her laugh. “You think?” She said.

“So, we got buildings taller then my palace and pyramids… these `roads' and `cars' thing… and for your friends, we have: Seto and Joey, who are the arguing couple one. Bakura and Ryou, one who is not the thief version we know and one who tames him. Marik and Malik, one who is insane and one who keeps him in line. Duke and Tristan are the arguing couple two. And Moukaba and Lisa are the third arguing couple but not as bad as one and two, and one of them cooks really good as well has a colorful language.”

“You got it down.”

“By the sounds of it, your friends are paired off. Then there's you and me.”

She blushed. “Uh… well…” She started when the other cut in.

“Don't worry about it Yugi, we're together now, right?”

She nodded as she looked up ahead to see, what looks like, an entrance to a tomb. “Is this it?” She asked as the other nodded.

“Yes.” He said as he grabbed her hand.

With that, they entered and went down a spiral-like stairs. Neither one said a word until a huge room appeared. The room was dimly lit by torches, but they could still see the blue-gray color that's in the room. At the back of the room there were two huge stone doors with the Eye of Horus on it.

“There's another reason for this tomb.” He said.

“What is it?”

“See that platform?”

She looked at the platform that was set in front of the doors, and it looked a dueling platform.

“When a king or a high official dies an untimely death, they duel there so that the victor will stay here in the realm of the living while the other rests his, or her, sword down and is to proceed to the Afterlife. But again, that's not our case in the matter.” He took a step forward, making her follow.

As they stood in front of the doors, Atem said something that she couldn't understand and the doors opened. They covered their eyes at the bright light as it opened completely as well as a gust of wind. She was in awe when he slightly squeezed her hand. She looked at him, who was looking at her with a smile.

“Ready?” He asked.

She smiled and nodded. “Ready as I'll ever be.”

With that they looked at the light and started to walk through. When they disappeared into the light, the stone doors started to close, and all was peaceful again.

~Valley of the Kings: Modern Day~

“Are we there yet?!” Joey whined.

“NO!!”

“Aw! Come on!”

“Joey, if you ask that question one more time, I'm going to beat your ass up!” Malik warned as she guided the group.

“At least tell us how close we are!”

“Not far now.”

“Dat's what ya said five minutes ago!”

“Then stop complaining!”

“Could you two please do something?” Bakura asked Seto and Marik. “Before they end up killing each other?”

“Don't have to.” Marik said as he pointed. “We're here.”

The two girls stopped arguing and looked at the entrance.

“This it?” Moukaba asked.

“Damn right it is.” Lisa said.

“How do you know?”

“Because there isn't another damn tomb this far off, except for the other tombs five miles back.”

“Well, come on, let's head in.” Malik said as she walked up to the entrance.

Everyone followed and went down the stair case.

“How long does this damn tomb go down?” Lisa asked, pretty annoyed of all the stairs.

“We're here.” Marik said with a grin as he pointed to the room.

Lisa didn't like to be put under the spotlight like that and did a jump kick to the back of Marik's head. “Shut the hell up!”

“Ow! Damn it!” Marik called as everyone sweat dropped.

`Yugi and Atem would've calmed everyone down five minutes ago.' Ryou thought with a sigh.

“So, this is the place you guys were talking about, huh?” Tristan said looking around. “Not much to look at.”

“Believe me Tristan, there's more to this place then meets the eye.” Malik said as everyone walked up to the platform.

“Why are we here again?” Duke asked.

“Just a feeling some of us has about this place.” Bakura said as he looked at the stone doors. “And it has something to do with those doors.”

“What's so special about some dumb five thousand year old door?” Seto said, which was answered by the sound of the doors being opened.

“What the hell?!” Both Joey and Lisa cried as everyone backed up.

“You better take it back Kaiba!” Tristan saw when there were silhouettes coming towards them.

Everyone was completely silent as the shadowed figures came into view.

“It's…” Marik started to say when the girls cried.

“Yugi! And Atem!”

As the mention two walked out, Yugi looked surprised to see everyone. “Guys!” She called happily as the doors behind them started to shut. Then, without warning, Atem collapsed. “Atem!” She fell to her knees and placed his head on her lap.

When the gang saw that, they went up to see what's wrong.

“Atem! Atem!” Yugi called as she shook the young man.

Atem, for a moment, didn't make a move until he groaned.

“Atem!” Yugi called out once more, relieved that he was alright.

He opened his eyes to see her and smiled until he noticed the gang.

“Welcome to the future!” Joey greeted.

“Excuse me?” He said as he sat up.

“Ya know, five thousand years later… I'm sure Yuge told you about us.”

He looked up at Seto. “Seto, what the hell is wrong with Joey?” He then noticed his clothes. “And what the hell am I wearing?”

Everyone stared at him as if he grew a second head.

Yugi on the, other hand, had a different idea. “Atem…” She said, making him look. “Atem Misoka?”

“That's my name.” He said only to be tackled and hugged by her.

“You're back!”

Everyone caught on and did a group hug, which Seto was forced to do.

“You're both back!” Ryou said.

“About damn time too!” Joey said.

“We were about to rip each other's damn throats out!” Lisa said.

“No shit!”

Atem was completely lost, until he remembered.

^Flashback^

“Atem!” The young king called, seeing him becoming a see-through. “What are you doing?!”

He straightened and looked at his past self. “If this doesn't work, I don't know what will.” He said as he began to dim. “Take care of her for me.” Were his last words before completely disappearing.

^End of Flashback^

`But how did I come back? With my memories intact and all?' He thought as everyone calmed down.

“Man! Wait till sis hears this!” Malik said.

“And Grandpa Mouto too!” Ryou said.

“Dey'll be so happy da hear dat you two are alright!” Joey said.

That's when Bakura hit Atem at the back of the head.

“What in the Seven Hells Was that for?!”

“For being an ass!” Bakura said. “You bastard! You sacrificed your entire existence to save the past and leave me to deal with Marik on my own! You have any idea how tiresome and annoying that is?!”

Atem blinked for a moment before he crossed his arms over his chest. “You missed me.”

Bakura scowled.

“Admit it Bakura, you missed me.” His response was a punch to the chest.

“If I'd missed you, I would've had bothered to dig up graves!” He said as he stomped off. “Let's go home already! We got what we came for!”

As Ryou helped Yugi and Atem up, she smiled and said. “That's his way of saying he does.”

“What was my first clue?” Atem said as he grabbed Yugi's hand and walked with the gang out of the tomb.

“So… You two a couple now?” Moukaba asked.

Atem looked at Yugi, who looked at him and smiled as they shared a kiss.

“Hell yeah!” Lisa called.

“About time!” Duke and Tristan said in unison.

The rest of the walk to the ship was Yugi telling her adventures and some teasing from the gang. As they reached the ship, they set off back to the city port, and by the next day took the next plane home.

Once they hit Domino, Grandpa Mouto cried in tears of joy as he embraced his granddaughter and Atem. Ishizu was also crying in relief that everything is where it should be.

~Month Later~

Yugi was asleep in her room when her alarm clock woke her up. She turned it off and got ready for school.

-Yugi's POV-

I dressed into my new school uniform, which is a short-sleeved sailor top with light blue lines, a light blue skirt that's above my knees and a white border at the hem, and long white socks that reached my knees with black shoes.

Since my old school is to be repaired, I have to go to a new school, which isn't so bad.

“Yugi! Atem's here!” Grandpa called.

“Okay!” I said as I grabbed my bag and rushed downstairs, and gave my grandpa a kiss on the cheek before rushing out the door.

Being in a new school isn't so bad because I no longer have to rush to the bus every morning.

“Ready?” Atem said as I hopped into the passenger's seat.

“You bet!” With that we headed off.

Not only do I have my own `personal' ride to school, I also still have all my friends in the same building. But what's even better is that Atem is going to the same school as well!

I looked over to see him wearing a light cream suite with a light blue tie. And he looks hot in it!

“Stop staring Yugi, you're making feel embarrassed.” He said, which I giggled.

“It's been almost a month, yet I still can't get over the fact that you look great in a suit.”

“And I still can't get over the fact that you look so damn cute in that outfit, and that I have to glare at every guy that looks at you in a certain way.”

“At least know I'm safe.” I said, making him blush.

As we reached to the school's parking lot, which is in front of the library, we saw the gang as well. Another good thing about a new school is that there's no Anzu around.

Turns out, after getting out of the hospital, she went to the Black Orchid Academy and the two girls I met and the Headmistress gave her a hard time. We kept in touch and we even saw them during the holidays. The two girls called me the luckiest bitch alive as soon as they saw Atem.

As for Atem, he let the head Egyptologist know that he was still in school and would like to drop his appearance for the dig. He was granted to leave and would come back after college if he wanted to. Plus he earned scholarships from all the well-known Egyptologists, which means he was set. And that means he's going to stay in Domino for quite sometime.

“Hey.” He said as we were heading to our first class. “Have any plans for Saturday?”

I shook my head. “No, none that I could think of.”

He smiled as he slipped a note in my hand as he kissed my forehead. “I'll see you later.” He said as he headed to his class.

Ever since we became a couple, he's been acting a little strange like that. All the girls in the group said that it was normal, and that is how their boyfriends acted when they were going out for the first couple of weeks. Though, Malik said that Marik still acts strange around their date things.

Speaking of which, Bakura and Marik's `jail-disguised-school' is also down for repairments and goes to our `normal' school.

As I sat down at my desk, I opened the note.

`Meet me by the roof at lunch.

Pharaoh.'

He uses `Pharaoh' as his code name, which made me smile on many occasions. `I wonder what he has planned?' I thought as class begun.

-Normal POV-

~Lunch~

Yugi went up to the roof and saw Atem, as well as a picnic cloth on the ground with a basket. He was also holding a bouquet of lotus flowers.

“For you.” He said as he handed the flowers to her.

“They're beautiful Atem!” She said as she held the flowers close. “And this is a nice surprise.”

“Yes… well, I was hoping to go out for lunch. But the principal denied my permission, and went to the cafeteria and made something up.”

She giggled and kissed him on the cheek. “You have so many talents.”

“Many of which I didn't know I have.”

She laughed as they both sat down and enjoyed their lunch together.

-Yugi's POV-

The girls were right, the first couple of weeks are awkward for any new couple, but it's the moments that are very sweet to treasure.

“So, what do you have planned for Saturday?”

And I couldn't wait for our next surprise date.

“Can't tell you!” He said with a wink.

“Aww!”
