Yu-Gi-Oh! Fan Fiction ❯ To Love the Enemy ❯ Chapter 3: Wrong Words ( Chapter 4 )

[ Y - Young Adult: Not suitable for readers under 16 ]

I see that my cliffhangers captivated everyone, yes? This fic will be littered with them so be prepared for them. I mean LITTERED. Thanks for the reviews everyone!

***ANNOUNCEMENT***

For anyone that thought Katsuya is Joey and Shizuka's last name, it's wrong. Jounouchi is the last name for both Joey and Serenity in Japanese. Katsuya is Joey's first name but he prefers to be called by his last name. Serenity likes to be called by her first name. In Japanese with Kaiba's name, it's Kaiba Seto but of course his first name is Seto, I know that. This is how they would write his name though. I've been on a website to confirm this. So any confusion I made gomen for that. Vendred13 was right about that. The names are backwards in Japanese so it would be Wheeler Joey and Wheeler Serenity.

Chapter 3: Wrong Words

Tasubuki Gameshop

Domino City, Japan

11:00am

Yami and Anzu are getting married. I hope Yami remembered what I told him to do.

Twenty-five year old Motou Yuugi smiled as he thought about his former yami getting married to his best friend Masaki Anzu. He was dealing with what seemed to be a whole row of Playstation 2 games, putting them on the shelves at his job in the Tasubuki Game Shop-a new shop that had recently opened in Domino City. It was a good job that paid good money, especially when he would need that money to help pay for the tuition at Odibwa College. College was getting very expensive and Yuugi knew that the tuition was also going up as well. He just hoped that he could keep affording it. He didn't want to drop out at all.

Motou Yuugi had grown up to be a handsome young man, a little taller but still not by much. He had a small impression of a muscular build, his face and hair the same way from ten years ago but matured to suit his adult age. He was attending the same college as Shizuka, however he didn't get to see her often when he was there for classes, maybe once or twice.

Yuugi's violet/dark black eyes were bright and cheerful as usual as he decided which game should go on which shelf. Tasukbuki Game Shop was a videogame/duel monsters shop. The store was still in the process of selling duel monster cards, cards of which Yuugi and Yami would look at. Yuugi still had his deck and Yami composed a deck of his own. Sometimes when Jounouchi came over, the three of them would have a friendly game that didn't compose of saving the world or having to deal with threats that were a danger to everyone. Ever since Battle City Tournament, everything somewhat went back to normal. For the sake of the world, Yuugi hoped it would stay that way.

The game shop was like a Blockbuster movie store, filled with videogames for almost every system-Sony Playstation, Nintendo 64, Gamecube, X-Box, and even old systems such as Nintendo, Super Nintendo, Sega Saturn, Sega Genesis and Neo Geo. Yami was still a bit confused by the whole concept of videogames so Yuugi would have to teach him how to play. Yami was a quick learner, no doubt about that and with Anzu eventually coming over at their place, her and Yami would play a full round of videogames together, laughing and basically having fun. It was really cute watching the two, Yuugi had to admit that.

If there was something Yuugi couldn't understand as of now, it was Kaiba Seto. After Battle City, it was expected that Kaiba would change for the better and accept them but as of now it didn't seem that way. It was only occasional Kaiba would speak to them normally but that didn't mean he was on friendly terms with Jounouchi. He was also still unnerving and cold.

I don't know, maybe Kaiba needs some time getting used to us now or something. I mean we did help save his brother and everything.but Jou doesn't seem to think he'll ever change. I don't even know what to think now.

Perhaps, for Yuugi, it was best not to think about this for now. He was happy for his former yami and Anzu and right now he had a feeling that Yami did everything correctly according to plan. Yami loved Anzu dearly and if he loved her that much, Yuugi knew that he proposed to her the right way.

Yuugi was wearing a white shirt and dark pants like Yami himself, the attire for working at the game shop. White and black weren't usually Yuugi's colors but that didn't mean he liked colors like orange or pink. He liked other dark colors but then again it was either wearing this outfit or finding another job.

As Yuugi dealt with the shelves and games, suddenly to his far right, the door of the game shop opened and someone familiar came in the store then, wearing a white shirt and a light blue windbreaker jacket.

It was Jounouchi Katsuya.

"Hey Yuugi, still busy as usual eh?" Jounouchi asked, making his way over to the young man.

Yuugi looked up and jumped a bit, causing Jounouchi to look at him confusingly.

"Wha, was it somethin' I said?" he asked.

Yuugi sighed.

"Jou, don't do that again," he replied. "You kind of made me nervous right then."

"Err, sorry."

"It's alright. What are you doing here anyway?" Yuugi asked as he and Jounouchi grasped hands, clasping them together in a friendly gesture.

Jounouchi smirked.

"Hey, can' I see ma friend eh?" he teased, as Yuugi moved away from him then and continued fixing games in their right positions on the shelves in front of the store.

"Don't you have classes now or at least work?" Yuugi asked as he continued working. Jounouchi shrugged, hands in his black jean pockets.

"Nah, don' ya remember? I'm off from work today. An' I got classes later. Where's Yami eh?"

"He's at Anzu's workplace," Yuugi replied as he suddenly got excited, but tried to calm himself down even thinking about it.

Jounouchi raised an eyebrow.

"Wha' would he be doin' there?"

"He's proposing to Anzu." Yuugi replied in a low voice, careful not to speak too loud. This was sort of secret and Yami had told him not to tell anybody, only invite them to the best restaurant in Japan so that they could have dinner there. That's where he was going to break the news. Yuugi only told Jounouchi because he trusted that he wouldn't blurt out anything. He didn't want anyone that they knew coming in and overhearing the conversation.

"I didn' hear what ya said Yuugi," Jounouchi said in his Brooklyn accent, confused by Yuugi's low voice. Yuugi simply looked around, and then put the game down he had in his hands, going over to Jounouchi, stepping over the boxes and whispered in his ear then. Jounouchi's eyes widened to the size of gold balls when Yuugi moved away then.

"Yami is proposin' to Anzu?" he nearly shouted in surprise and Yuugi had to hit him in the arm, causing him to stumble backwards.

"Wha?" Jounouchi questioned, rubbing his arm. "Why did ya hit me?"

"Yami is proposing to Anzu Jounouchi and he didn't want anyone else to know yet except me and you. We're all going out for dinner tonight and that's when he'll break the news. He trusts that we wouldn't break the news yet."

"Oh.a secret right? A real secret?" Jounouchi asked.

Yuugi sighed.

He would have to really hope Jounouchi didn't open his mouth.

"Yes Jou, a secret. I helped him memorize the proposal and everything."

"Did ya think he did alright?"

"I would hope so; I mean Yami really loves Anzu. I can't imagine him stuttering over the proposal."

"Are you goin' ta ask him?"

"Yeah but I don't think he stuttered. I told him not to stutter and keep himself together."

"Yeah, I think Yami must have done alright."

"Really, what are you doing here?"

"Just decided to drop by, like I sai', know wha' I mean? I was bored in da apartment."

"Where's Shizuka? She went to the college yet?"

"I think so. She told me this mornin' she had some interview. I hope she gets whateva job she did apply for."

"Did you ask her or did she tell you anything?"

"Nah, I'll ask her when she gets back later. She didn' say much, sai' it was a secretary job."

"That's good Jou."

"Yeah."

"Planning on buying anything?"

Jounouchi laughed, running a hand through his golden blond/brown hair.

"Heh, I would buy some more games for ma Playstation 2.damn, Shizuka has been beatin' me at ma own games! How in tha world she learned how ta use Quan Chi in Mortal Kombat 5 I'll neva know."

"Practice maybe?"

"Probably. I mean Yug, she pounds me with 8 ta 10 hit combos! She wasn't even pressin' all tha buttons! I neva expected girls would learn how ta play videogames in 4 weeks like she did!"

"Well Jou, expect the unexpected," Yuugi said logically.

"Yeah.ma own sista beatin' me at videogames.it's a conspiracy!"

"Heh, Naomi's been learning some moves too."

"How is she anyway?"

"She's alright. She's at college now."

"Girls."

"Yeah."

"Eh, I think I betta go for now, I just forgot I gotta go to tha' store to pick up some stuff," Jounouchi said, looking around the huge game store then. "Don' want ya boss ta think I'm stoppin' ya from workin'."

Yuugi smiled.

"Yeah, guess I'll see you later Jou. Yami's supposed to be here soon enough. And remember what I told you. No telling."

Jounouchi looked at Yuugi.

"Come on Yuug, you can trust me!" he exclaimed. "I keep secrets, right?"

"Yeah Jou, sure. No telling Jou. See you later then okay? Everyone's meeting at me and Yami's apartment and then we're going to dinner."

"Yeah, I'll be sure to wear ma best tuxedo. See ya Yug."

When Jounouchi left the game shop, Yuugi simply sighed and went back to working.

I hope Jounouchi doesn't blurt anything out that I told him.knowing him he doesn't always keep a secret.

Then Yuugi smiled at that.

Even after ten years Jounouchi was still the original goofball.and that wasn't a bad thing either.

Kaiba Corporations

Domino City, Japan

20th Floor

11:15am

Shizuka didn't like the way Kaiba's eyes narrowed as she shifted uncomfortably in her seat. Perhaps she should have kept this to herself.

But in truth she didn't like the way Kaiba was talking to or even addressing her.

"Unless you don't want this job Jounouchi, I suggest you watch your tongue around me before something unfortunate happens to it," Kaiba said coldly and quietly, the words dripping with venomous precision. "I wanted a simple answer from you so don't waste my time with your babbling. You seemed to have forgotten that I'm the one conducting this interview and if I choose to, I can have you thrown out of the building. Start from the beginning, now."

Shizuka swallowed hard, realizing that the words she said were the wrong ones and unless she wanted this interview to go any faster, she would have to be very, very careful. She immediately did as she was told, afraid that her bad judgment of words would jeopardize her one shot at an internship job.

"My major in college in Business Management," she finally replied, careful not to stutter over her words. "I wanted some experience and I heard about this job that its one of the best jobs for internships so I decided to apply so I can expand on my knowledge in Business Management."

Kaiba only smirked at her response.

Not bad, her answer does sound interesting and perhaps she won't be as feebleminded as that secretary I had before, because of course it won't happen when I make her life a living hell. But she's still a pathetic Jounouchi and she won't be treated any different by me when I deal with the mutt.

"So that's the reason why you decided to apply, how interesting," Kaiba replied, but nothing in his words indicated that he wasn't extremely impressed at all, even though he was a tiny bit impressed. "But your reason hardly fazes me. I do hope you can handle the pressure Jounouchi because I assure you, your work will not be painless and it won't be a day in the park. You will work until all of your work is completed. You will follow my requests and orders without a protest or a hint of rebellion because you will be crushed. I expect you to be on time because if you waltz in late, not only will you have to see me, your pay will be deducted which means you won't have a paycheck if you come in too late. You are working under my dictatorship Jounouchi, under my jurisdiction and orders. As you've noticed, before we came in here, there was a small area with a desk and other essentials for the secretary job. That is where you will work and when I want you, you will come in my office but knock before you come in and you will come in when I order you to come in. If you should rebel against my orders or dictatorship Jounouchi, you will be seen as more pathetic than you are now and severe consequences will follow. You will get paid every two weeks, if you do have a paycheck left and if you should object to the payment plan, you can leave and never show your face again. But of course I doubt you wouldn't pass up this opportunity, will you Jounouchi? Especially when you have to support the heap of a mutt you like to call your brother."

"I.would appreciate if you d-don't refer to my brother that way," Shizuka interrupted quietly but Kaiba only chuckled coldly yet again and then narrowed his eyes, slowly pulling the seat away from the desk and slowly got up. Shizuka was even more uncomfortable than she allowed herself to be, wondering what this was even about.

He knows my brother.but why is he even speaking about him that way? I think I got the job.that's what it looks like but why is he coming here by my seat? This whole interview was frightening, really frightening. If I did get this job, I better get out of here if the interview's over.

Shizuka was about to get up but Kaiba's cold, deep, raspy words echoed in the room that sounded like a command and not a request.

"Sit down Jounouchi, this interview isn't over yet, until I say its over," he replied, having moved away from behind the desk and was making his way slowly around Shizuka's seat.

Shizuka sat back down uneasily.

I don't like this. I really don't like this at all.

"I-I thought the interview was over?" Shizuka asked but she was sharply interrupted.

"Like I said Jounouchi, it's over when I say it's over. I still want to talk to you."

His advancement was slow, sly and precise, enjoying the tension and frigidity of Shizuka sitting in her seat. Kaiba slowly circled her seat as a tiger scanning its prey, contemplating where to strike.

"You should be grateful that I gave you this job," Kaiba said darkly and coldly, almost in a whisper as he looked down at Shizuka, eventually reaching behind her seat again, his hands behind his back. The young woman was flinching but didn't dare to get up at all, even though the interview throughout its course made her very uncomfortable. "I applaud you Jounouchi, for even attempting to be a little brave towards me, but your bravery is only a sign of weakness. And also, you managed to last 25 minutes with me. Some people don't even last a second I might add, however Jounouchi, it doesn't mean you will get far in defying me if you dare to try because you will ultimately lose, I assure you of that. Do you want to know why I detest you mutt brother?"

Shizuka didn't reply to that and it seemed to have triggered a sense of impatience in Kaiba's subconscious mind.

"Well, do you?" he snapped impatiently and coldly, causing Shizuka to nearly jump out of her seat.

"Y-Y-Yes," she stammered in reply.

Kaiba sneered.

"You should learn to answer me quickly Jounouchi, I'm not very patient of course," he said emotionlessly. "If you want to know why the mutt and I have such a venomous hatred for each other, then here's the interesting little reason. Your mutt brother is pathetic, that's all there is to it. He's just a sniffling little puppy that doesn't deserve my respect at all. He's simply.what's the word? Incompetent. It's the way he looks, the way he acts, it disgusts me. And for you to be related to him makes it even sicker to bare. If you want more details Jounouchi, ask the mutt himself. But then again, does he even know that you're applying for this job?"

Shizuka didn't hesitate to answer at all, feeling the cold presence behind her.

"N-No." she confessed almost fearfully.

Kaiba sneered again and leaned close to Shizuka's ear, his breathing slowly sending a chill down her spine.

"I thought so," he whispered coldly. "Be careful Jounouchi, this job might not be so pleasant for you if you keep up with that attitude of yours. You start work at 9:00am tomorrow. You will bring your college schedule with you and the hours will be worked out from there. Don't be late Jounouchi.I won't tolerate lateness."

Kaiba then pulled away from talking into Shizuka's ear as he moved away, standing up to his full height then and walked, eventually reaching behind his desk again, sitting down in his own seat.

"Your interview is finished now Jounouchi. Be sure to remember everything I've told you.I don't like repeating myself and it would be a pity if you forget."

Shizuka was more than grateful to get out of the room after the chilling interview, getting up quickly and made her way to the door, but before she left, grasping the doorknob immediately, she turned around to look at Kaiba then. The twenty-six year old man only looked at her with frozen dark blue eyes as before, raising an eyebrow in mock sarcasm but suddenly his look changed almost immediately as he then smiled evilly, almost insanely, a smile that Shizuka wanted to forget. She shivered yet again and quickly left the room then, closing the door behind her.

Kaiba kept the evil smile intact as he turned the seat to look outside the window yet again, his long, slender fingers crossed over each other.

You better be careful Jounouchi, very careful I might add. Your innocence means nothing to me. It's going to be fun making your life hell for the pathetic Jounouchi you are.
