Yu-Gi-Oh! Fan Fiction ❯ To Love the Enemy ❯ Chapter 11: Hesitation ( Chapter 12 )
I am so sorry this chapter took so long to update. Finals are approaching fast and I'm going insane. There will be severe delays in updates so don't expect much, unfortunately. For the time I didn't update 'Yu-Gi-Oh in Times Square?!' I will include the little incident of the birthday party between me and Kaiba. You know which one it is, when he chased poor kiko. Yup, yup, sure to be funny. 'The Missing' will be updated next week hopefully.
~Now to the reviews
AisleynnGoldleaf: Some grammatical mistakes, I know that. If you have any accommodations, I will gladly accept them. Glad you like the story and it gets even more suspenseful. 'Breaking the Ice' will hopefully be updated during the summer-yes that long unfortunately.
Jieli: Ronounin Kenshin? Nah, I never even saw that before. I swear, the only animation I get time to see now is Yu-Gi-Oh. I must have missed three episodes or something. Did you see Yu-Gi-Oh? What happened?
Deena70: I hate character bashing, there's no point to it. That's why I don't do it.
Vendred13: Soon, very soon we'll see another interaction, heh, heh.
To everyone else: Thanks for the reviews! Here's a semi-long chapter from me…

To Love the Enemy
Chapter 11: Hesitation
----------------------
Lay beside me, tell me what they've done
And speak the words I wanna hear, to make my demons run
The door is locked now, but it's open if you're true
If you understand the me, than I can understand the you
Lay beside me, under wicked sky
The black of day, dark of night, we share this paralyze
The door cracks open, but there's no shining through'
Black heart scarring, darker still, but there's no sun shining through
What I've felt, what I've known
Turn the pages, turn the stone
Behind the door
Should I open it for you?
Yeah, what I've felt what I've know
So sick and tired, I stand alone
Could you be there, cuz' I'm the one who waits
The one who waits for you
Or are you un-forgiven too?
Come lay beside me, this won't hurt, I swear
She loves me not, she loves me still but she'll never love again
She lay beside me, but she'll be there when I'm gone
Black heart's scarring darker still, yes she'll be there when I'm gone
What I've felt, what I've known
Turn the pages, turn the stone
Behind the door
Should I open it for you?

Jounouchi Residence
5:00pm
"Ya know Shiz, I didn't even tell me about tha job," Jounouchi said as he stood over the stove in the bar-like medium sized kitchen, cooking something for them to snack on until the dinner later that night. It was simply a small meal because Jounouchi was hungry and he hadn't eaten lunch because he was playing Capcom vs. SNK 2 with Honda this long. He figured that Shizuka was hungry as well. He had been rather surprised that she had come home so early from class…she came home around 2:00pm and her class ended at 2:15. She wouldn't have been home until 2:30 or so. By that time, he and Honda were still playing the videogame, Jounouchi on an unstoppable winning streak, Honda steaming about this. Shizuka didn't tell him why she came home early or about her job interview, which he eagerly waited to hear about. She simply said something about not feeling well and she was going to lay down for a while, and then come back downstairs for something to eat.
It was now that she had come back downstairs.
She acted as though she didn't want to talk or be disturbed so Jounouchi decided to let her be. However he had a feeling that something was wrong.
Since when did Shizuka start acting as though she didn't want to speak with her own brother?
She's been, well actin' really strange since she came home an' everythin'. And she did come home a bit too early. Her class ends at 2:15pm, I remembered that. An' she's usually home by 2:40 or somethin'. What gives?
Honda had left minutes ago, realizing that perhaps Shizuka and Jounouchi needed their time alone.
Shizuka seemed distant, as though she didn't hear Jounouchi's question at all. What had been happening to her-the voices, the interview at Kaiba Corporations and the chilling incident between her and Kaiba Seto was playing in her mind over and over like a record player that intended to drive her insane. It was as though her conscious was etching away at her slowly. She couldn't tell Jounouchi, no she couldn't tell him about the interview, no matter how much it was bothering her. She didn't know how Jounouchi would react and something told her not to tell.
I know Jounouchi is going to ask me about it…but I can't let him know, something's telling me not to tell him…
Perhaps it was the fact that she had lied to him…
"Shizuka, earth to Shizuka?" Jounouchi said with a frown, waving the wooden spoon he was cooking with in front of Shizuka's face, causing her to flinch, nearly spilling her Green Tea from her small white saucer cup. She was sitting on a wooden bench, one of the four benches that was nearly the long, black marble counter that was outside the kitchen. Jounouchi was cooking right in front of her, the large white stove against the wall. It was like a sushi bar of some sort, the kitchen being very beautiful with black/white tiles, even on the floor, kitchen utensils hung around where the stove was located. The kitchen had a medium window like space where Shizuka could watch Jounouchi cook baby broccoli and shrimps. He had already cooked the rice, the rice serving both him and Shizuka for the day. It was a well furnished kitchen for an apartment and Jounouchi made it every effort to keep it clean. Thanks to Mai, Jounouchi wad able to cook better and because of this, he was now bragging, claiming that he was a world class chef, sporting a white apron with black, bold letters that said 'Kiss the Chef'. Mai would roll her eyes every time she saw Jounouchi with the apron, as he wrapped his arm around her waist, demanding playfully a kiss for the chef.
'You know Jounouchi, just because I taught you something, doesn't mean you have to prance around claiming you're a world class chef with that apron on,' she would muse while Shizuka laughed about it. 'You know what would have been more fun? You prancing around in those Tweedy Bird boxers you had on the night before…'
Jounouchi blushed beet red when she said this and Shizuka laughed along with Mai about it. It was true he had Tweedy Bird boxers, but that was nothing to broadcast, according to his jurisdiction.
'Very funny Mai,' he huffed.
Then Mai would say; 'You're still an amateur cook.'
'I am not an' amateur cook. I jus' had the talen' there all along and well it didn' show up before!'
Both Mai and Shizuka would roll they're eyes while Jounouchi bragged of his 'hidden' greatness.
"I…did you just ask me a question Jou?" Shizuka asked in reply. Jounouchi nodded slowly, looking at Shizuka carefully.
"…Okay…Shiz, you've been actin' a bit weird…wait, weird doesn't even cut it…you've been actin' really strange since ya came home. An' seriously, I thought your class ended at 2:15 or somethin', it's pretty weird you're home already an' everythin'…what gives eh?"
"Nothing's…going on Jou," Shizuka replied, however the voice in her subconscious came back.
You're lying, why don't you tell him the truth hmm? Or are you afraid? Little mouse…
Shizuka's grip on her cup tightened, forcing herself to ignore the voice that intended to torture her slowly, that strangely sounded like Kaiba's voice.
No…leave me alone…
Jounouchi slowly raised an eyebrow.
"Okay then, you're fine…then tell me what that was about when ya jus' came home an' went upstairs like ya didn' want ta speak or something…an' I thought you were goin' ta tell me about the job interview. Why do ya sound like you're even hidin' something Shiz?"
"I'm not hiding anything Jou, I don't know what you're talking about," Shizuka interrupted then. "The job interview went…fine, and I told you it's a law firm, I really don't feel like speaking about it now…"
"Shizuka, I figured ya would have been happy about getting' this job. Where's this law firm? I jus' wanna know what happened an' everythin'-"
"Jou, why must you know everything? I said I didn't want to speak about it-"
"Because I want ta know Shiz!" Jounouchi nearly shouted, as he smacked the spoon in the pot, his suspicions over his sister hiding something coming back to him again. Shizuka fell silent then as Jounouchi then sighed.
"I'm sorry fa that, but I'm jus' surprised ya even got a job at a law firm…I don' see why you can' tell me where it's at or anything-"
"Mishobi Law firm," Shizuka interrupted, making up something from her mind.
You lied to him…you know it wasn't true…you're lying…
"That's the name of it Jounouchi okay? The interview went fine and I got the job. Happy?"
Jounouchi narrowed his eyes then, looking at Shizuka.
"No, I'm not satisfied Shizuka…you know, the funny thing is, is that I was tellin' Honda that it sounded as though you were hidin' somethin' when I ran into you on tha street. I'm supposed ta be ya brother an' you're ma sista. We don' keep secrets from each other Shiz', okay? You never kept anythin' from me and I never did that. I don' expect this happenin' now."
She was acting moody and distant-she had never acted like this before so why now?
What the hell is wrong with her all of a sudden? We usually have talks like this all tha' time an' she would have been happy receiving this job, so what now?
"If you're not hidin' anythin' Shiz…" Jounouchi continued picking up the wooden spoon again as he then picked up olive oil that was next to the stove on the counter, pouring some in and then settling it back down on the counter. "…then why aren' we havin' a conversation like we usually do? I tell you about what happened and I tell you about what happened in my day…"
"Kaiba…" Shizuka blurted out suddenly, however she was afraid of telling Joey about the job. She would only tell him about the twenty-six old billionaire at her college…she couldn't tell him about the job, for some strange reason, she was afraid of saying anything to Jounouchi about it because she had lied to him. Jounouchi tensed up, the minute he heard the name as though it was a dreaded curse he would rather not hear about.
"What about him?" he demanded, a small amount of coldness and anger developing, something that developed even when he only heard a small mention of the name. "What happened…did you run into him or somethin' I told you ta stay away from that building Shiz…"
"He…was a-at my college Jounouchi,' Shizuka interrupted quietly.
Jounouchi looked at her sternly.
"How did you know he was there?" he demanded again dropping the wooden spoon again. "Did ya run into him, did he try to hurt you or somethin'?"
His eyes flashed dangerously with growing anger.
"Did you say anythin' ta him? Why didn' ya say anythin' Shiz?"
"I wasn't sure whether I should have told you or not…I…just saw him when I was leaving from Odibwa," Shizuka replied but in her mind, she knew that she was lying about this. And the voice appeared again; sure to coldly remind her she was lying yet again.
You're lying…
"He didn't hurt me…we didn't run into each other…it wasn't-"
"I know Kaiba Shiz. He's not someone to run into...what was he doing there?"
You're simply lying Jounouchi…aren't you?
"I told you Jounouchi, I don't know, why he was even there, he didn't do anything to me, I swear…"
You're lying…
"I just want ya to be careful…Kaiba hasn't changed much, he's still a fuckin' jerk. He knows you're ma younger sista an' I know him. I've been hearing that he likes to fuckin' seduce women…I don' know if its true or not Shiz but I told ya ta stay away from that building, I warned you already about it…"
Your mutt brother doesn't know you're working here, does he?
"I'm staying away, like you said Jou…" Shizuka replied, but yet again she was lying.
You're lying little girl…
The voice taunted and laughed coldly in her mind, despite her efforts to block it from her mind. She was lying to her brother and yet she believed that she was doing the right thing by not telling him this, about the job at Kaiba Corporations, everything.
"I don't know what he was doing there…I'm serious Jou…I don't know why he as there…"
"Fine, I believe you Shiz, but I still wanna know more about this job you're hidin' from me. You're hidin' somethin' an' I can' even figa put what it is. I never heard of this law firm you're even talking about…"
You're lying to him little girl…
Shizuka couldn't answer Jounouchi suddenly. She simply looked down at her cup, her grip on the cup shaking.
You're lying…
The voice wouldn't stop tormenting her, it was coming back again. Where was it coming from? Why was this happening to her?
Jounouchi noticed her shaking hands.
You're lying little girl…
"Shiz…you alright?" he asked, slowly putting down the wooden spoon yet again.
Shizuka couldn't answer him; she didn't know how to answer him at all…
