NQ: My merfolk is quite different from anything you've seen before. Depending on their personalities, they have different types of tails.

Prologue: Believe in Myself
Yugi thunk hard over what had happened today, distantly hearing the lyrics of his favorite videogame, Sonic Adventure. A young voice was singing it, and it somewhat reflected his life...
*When all alone in my chair, I just go about wishing
I wanna be strong, I really wanna be trusted
When all alone in my bed, I just go about yearning
I wanna be cool, I also wanna be like him*
The tri-color haired boy sighed deeply. Yes, all that was just what had happened. His best friend, also the leader of their small group, had yet again saved him from the bullies at school. If only he was more like the fair-haired boy and less like himself, maybe bullies would stop hurting him?
*But that's not something I can do so easily
This is not simply my way, my style
Gotta get a hold of my life!*
No. Hoping like that was ridiculous. He had to get a hold of himself, and stand up to them. He'd show them he was NOT a kid!
*I wanna fly high
So that I can reach the highest of all heavens
Somebody will be waiting for me so,
I have got to fly higher!*
He looked at the lake behind his home, up to Look-Out Rock, as his Grandpa and the other fishermen called it, and gaped. There, stretched on a rock, was an older version of himself... With... A tail?
*Gotta keep goin'
Everything is a new challenge for me
I will believe in myself
This is the only start for me!*
Yugi felt like the merman was watching his every move, and, against his better judgment, he walked to the dangerous outcropping of Devil Cliff, and then, he leaned to get a better look at the merman in curiousity.
*When all alone in my sleep, I just go about dreaming
I see myself there, having the same adventure*
His mouth was dry as soon as he had gotten a closer look at the older him. He had the same tri-color hair but with a few more bangs spiking in the back and red hair, and he was laying flat on his stomach. His tail wasn't scaly, like stories kept depicing the merfolk, but instead reminded him of a shark's tail, looking smooth like the slightly tanned skin, but at the same time... weird, like wet rubber.
*If I just follow you, I will never ever see the light
Now is the time to find my way through my life
I'm trying so hard to be strong*
The tail decidedly had a weird sort of color. It started with the normal skin color, turning slowly in the darkest, purest of the blacks Yugi had ever seen, just above the hips, and then, a few inches below, where, on a human body, tight met hips, were hints of dark, velvety violet highlights. The tail was about a time and a half the merman's upper body, and the end of the tail was just like a shark's, but it bled to the same violet as the highlights, one inch before the end of the fins. Yugi found himself looking at the other teen's face.
*Many friends help me out, in return I help them
Certain things I can do and there are things that only I can do
No one's alone!*
The regal boy had a small tiara over his face, a single jewel, an icicle-shaped onix dangling over a forehead, outlining the relaxed brows and the calmly closed eyes. Yugi took another step, hypnotized by the merman's beauty. His amethist eyes followed the curve of the small nose, down to perfect, rosy lips. The petite teen gulped. He had never been drawn to any other being like that, and yet he had to fall for somebody who wasn't even of his own species, and another boy at that...
He let out a startled yelp when the rock he had just stepped on let go, and as he tumbled to the waters below with the rock, all he could do was looking at the merman, pleading with his eyes, and then violet met startling rubies, before everything went black with a sharp pain. Oddly, he still hear the last lyrics of the song.
*I wanna fly high
