Chapter 9: First signs of love
By Yami Kitsune
Ryou's eyes widened when he saw Malik standing there with Yugi. Then a smile made its way onto his face.
"Malik!" Ryou said and tried to get off the couch so he could go over to him, but he was still to weak and fell back to the couch as soon as he stood. Malik's eyes widened when he saw the burns all over Ryou. He ran over to him to get a better look.
"Ryou, what happened?" Malik didn't give Ryou a change to answer before he glared at Bakura.
"What the hell did you do to him!?" Malik yelled.
"They didn't do any thing Malik! They helped me!" Malik's eyes turned back to Ryou a look of disbelief on his face.
"They…they helped you?" Ryou nodded. Malik looked back up glaring.
"Why did you help him?"
"I don't know why I helped him." Bakura said glaring back at Malik. "Now if you don't mind, would every one stop asking me the same question over and over?" Bakura asked. Yami shook his head as he looked at the three vampires. He thought it was amazing how much the three vampires looked like, himself and his two friends. But there were obvious differences. Like with Yugi, he was shorter then Yami and his hair didn't have the lightning streaks sticking up like Yami did. And then with Malik and Marik, those two looked almost identical. But at times Malik's eyes seemed softer, where if you looked at Marik's eyes, they seemed hard, no light in them. And finally there was Ryou and Bakura. Ryou was a lot sweeter then Bakura that was for sure. And Bakura's hair spiked up more then Ryou's did.
But they still looked a lot alike. Yami looked at Yugi who was looking back at him with a confused look on his face. Yugi walked over to him.
"What are you thinking?" Yugi asked in his soft voice. Yami smiled and shook his head.
"It is nothing little one. I am just trying to figure out why we look so much alike."
"I have been wondering that myself…but I don't know." They looked back over to Bakura, Ryou and Malik. Malik was sitting on the couch next to Ryou and healing his wounds. Ryou had his eyes closed every time Malik went touched one of his burns. When Malik was done with the burns on Ryou's arms and legs, he lifted up Ryou's shirt. His eyes widened when he saw the burn there. It was one of the worse he had ever seen.
"Ryou…how did you get all these burns?" Malik asked. Ryou looked down and said something under his breath.
"What, Ryou? I didn't hear you."
"One of the hunters brought me here…and…and he tied me to the wall where the sun shone for most of the day…" Ryou said softly. Malik looked up at Yami and Bakura, glaring at them again.
"Don't look at us! It wasn't one of us who did that to him. It was someone who was on our team."
"And he's not anymore?"
"No he's not." Yami said sternly. "He wanted to get information out of Ryou to go after you and Yugi. He never learned that we don't do that."
"You don't torture vampires to find out where more are?"
"No we don't." A new voice said. They all looked over to the doorway and saw Marik standing there. "How you feeling little vampire?" He asked looking at Ryou.
"Good…better then I was." Ryou said and gave him a small smile. Marik looked at Malik and raised an eyebrow.
"Another look-alike?" He said to no one in particular. Yami shrugged and sat down in a chair next to Bakura. The room was silent; no one knew what to say. Mostly because vampires and hunters have been enemies for hundreds of years. Ryou sat there fighting a little; he could feel Bakura looking at him, and Malik. He hated to be watched like that, even though he knew they were both just worried about him.

Tristan sat on his new bed and just looked at the room. Tea was still there, but he didn't pay any attention to her. She was just a bit annoying, always talking about stuff like, how vampires all had to stick together and beet the hunters. Tristan found that just a little bit annoying because he was a hunter, but what made it worse was her voice. It had this high-pitched tone to it.
"Look, could you just leave me alone vampire?" Tristan snapped at her. Tea glared at him before turning, sticking her nose in the air and walking out slamming the door behind her. "Man, no wonder Pegasus is the head vampire, he's had to put up with her for god knows how long." Tristan said to him self. Tristen lay back on the bed with a sigh; this place was more boring then staying with the other hunters.
Although he did have to admit, it was never boring when Joey and Seto would be in the same room, and keep stealing glances at each other. Neither one of them realized the other had feelings for each other.
Tristan shook his head. Then there were Yami, Marik and Bakura. Those three never seemed to get along, yet they were still friends, or at least they said they were. Tristan sighed and decided to get some sleep before Pegasus ordered him to do something.

Yugi sat out on the roof of the cabin and looked up at the stars. He hadn't seen them this clear in a long time. The lights in the city always drowned out the light of the stars, and Yugi missed looking at them. Yugi started thinking back to when he had first been changed, and how before that he would sit out on his roof and watch the sunrise and sunset. Whenever someone wanted him during those hours they would always find him on the roof.
Yugi was so wrapped up in his own thoughts that he didn't hear Yami come out on the roof with him. Yami sat down next to Yugi; the small vampire had not yet noticed him sitting there. Yami wondered what the small one was thinking about. He seemed to be lost in his own thoughts. Yugi still hadn't noticed he wasn't alone, he stared at the stars until his eyes set site on a star that he remembered from his past as a human.
~*Flashback*~
Little Yugi sat on the roof of his house, not many people could sit up on the roof of their houses. But because Yugi was so small he was aloud to do so all the time.
"Yugi! Where did that boy go now? Yugi?" Yugi looked down and smiled when he saw his mother standing in the doorway to the house.
"Up here Okasama!" Yugi called down to her. She jumped and put a hand over her heart as she looked up and smiled at him.
"Yugi dear, you know better then to scare your poor mother like that."
"Gomen nesai Okasama." Yugi smiled at her.
"What are you doing up there this time? Pretending you can fly?" She teased him. Yugi shook his head and stood up climbing down. His mother hugged him close and they went inside. At the table Yugi's father sat, and then there were his four brothers. Yugi being the smallest was spoiled by all of them.
"Ah I see you found out little man." His father said when they came in. Yugi's mother nodded and helped Yugi up onto his chair.
"Yes the little one was on the roof again." She smiled and folded her hands as her husband said grace. When he was done they started eating and talking.
"Yugi just what do you do up there?" One of his brothers asked. Yugi smiled at him.
"I go to my own world." He answered and thanked his mother as she dished him up some dinner.
"Your own world? Tell me son, what is in this world of yours?" His father asked. Yugi smiled brightly at him, he loved to tell his family about his dreams and fantasy's and they loved to listen.
"This time I was flying on a bird through the stars." Yugi said and continued to tell them his story. That was mainly his job in the family, because he wasn't big or strong enough to help his father and brothers feed the animals or fix stuff he helped his mother when she needed it, and kept the family happy with his stories. It made him feel important.

That night when his mother was tucking him into bed he held her hand and wouldn't let her go. He knew her birthday was coming up, and he had never had money to get any thing for his mother but this year he found the perfect present.
"What is it Yugi dear?" She asked sitting on the bed.
"Okasama…I know your birthday is coming up really soon, and I have never been able to get you any thing because I don't have any money."
"Oh Yugi, you have given me something much better then gifts. You give me your love and tell your wonderful stories." She smiled. Yugi sat up in bed and hugged her.
"I have something better to give you this year Okasama." He smiled. "And I just can't wait, so I'm going to give it to you tonight."
"What is it dear?" She asked and watched him get out of bed and walk over to the window.
"Over here Okasama." He said waving her over, smiling she got up and walked over to where he was standing. He pointed out to the night sky where a new star shown brightly.
"That Okasama…it's a new star that showed up last week." He said, she followed his finger and found the star he was pointing to. "That is my present to you." She knelt down next to Yugi and pulled him close to her tears falling down her face.
"Okasama I didn't mean to make you cry…did I do something wrong?" He asked. She shook her head and whipped her tears away.
"No Yugi dear. This is one of the best gifts any one could ever give me." She said and hugged him again. "And I think I will have to name that star after my favorite son. Yugi."
~*End Flashback*~
Yugi had tears streaming down his face when he thought about that, it wasn't long after that, that he had been changed. His house had been attacked by robbers and burnt to the ground his family trapped inside. A vampire had found him in the field not long after that and fed off of him. He would have died if Malik hadn't come along and changed him.
"So, vampires can cry." Yami said startling Yugi out of his thoughts. Yugi looked over at him and nodded. Yami looked up at the star.
"It's very pretty, matches your eyes." He said looking back at Yugi. Yugi nodded and looked away not saying any thing.
"What were you thinking about little one?" Yami asked. He heard Yugi sniffle and rub his eyes.
"The past…my family, how they died and when I was changed…" Yugi said and looked back up at the star. "That was the last present I was ever able to give her. And now she lives there…" Yugi whispered. Yami looked confused for a moment until he heard Yugi whisper again. "I miss you Okasama…" Fresh tears filled his eyes and Yami couldn't help himself. He pulled Yugi to him and let the young vampire cry on his chest.
