~Hello! So here we are with another chapter. It's amazing I manage to get these up what with lifeguard training, French class, essays, and life in general... I'm still getting an honour roll grade point average though. Must be doing something right. Remember, add me to your favourites list, it's really not that hard!~

The evil spirit of the ring trudged down the sidewalks of the city. Grimly taking in the sights of the modern world around him. He was constantly amazed by this new period he had landed in, and how Ryou was able to survive in it at all. Hell, he was amazed Ryou even managed to survive at all with him around.

"Stupid," Bakura yelled aloud once he had gotten to a secluded area of the town's park. "I probably terrified the boy, going on like I did. And then running off and leaving him alone when he wasn't well? GAAAHH!" The re-born pounded his pale forehead with curled fists. Just thinking about his poor ill hikari made him feel guilty all over again, his heart ached. "Sometimes I wish that I could just go back into the ring... That way I could never hurt Ryou...."

"He's adorable!" Squealed the semi-psychotic voice of Malik Ishtar, accompanied by his darker half, Marik. The blonde currently had the albino in a death hug. "Let's buy him a present!"

"Haha..." Bakura laughed coldly, pushing the boy off. "What do you to want?"

"Consider us the bearers of free love." Marik put in, standing a fair distance back with his muscular arms folded over his chest. ~His manly, well formed, god given, (drools) chest. Someone get me a towel!~ "We're here to figure out what a pretty guy like you is doing in a place like this?" He asked innocently.

"I'm not in the mood." Bakura hissed back, lying down on the bench. "Why don't you go pester the pharaoh about Yugi?"

From somewhere off in the distance, a masculine voice yelled; "I heard that!"

Ignoring the remark, Malik took this opportunity to stair deeply into Bakura's eyes. "Why can't you just admit to Ryou how you feel?" The boy asked, batting at Bakura's white hair.

"How do you know about that?" The tomb robber hissed back, jumping of the bench and landing on his feet.

"Well I can read minds, remember?" Marik filled in, holding up the pointed golden dagger. "I don't have to take control of you so you can make out with your hikari, do I?"

"If you won't I will!" Malik squealed happily. "Just the thought of those chocolate brown eyes makes me wanna..."

"Finish that sentence and you'll rue the day you were born!" Bakura hissed, slapping Malik over the face.

"Umm... Excuse me?" A soft voice said.

The evil trio looked up to see the lighter half of the tomb robber, Ryou. Clad in his open school uniform with a woollen blanket wrapped over his shoulders. His legs were trembling beneath him and it really didn't look like he should be moving at all.

*Bakura's POV*

"What are you doing here?" I demanded, a slight note of worry in my voice. I walked slowly over to the smaller boy, he shrunk back in fright at first but couldn't really move to much in his weakened state.

"I wanted to say I was sorry..." Ryou replied timidly as I curled an arm around his shoulders to support him.

"Fool, in case you haven't noticed it was I who ran out and left you, a sick pitiful creature alone!" I ranted back. My hikari shut his eyes and leaned forward slightly, as though he was to tired to hear anymore.

With a sigh, I carefully picked him up in cradling position, tucking his head gently under my chin.

"I'm sorry Ryou... Leaving you alone and then coming down out here when you weren't well.... I'm so sorry..." If I hadn't been so dense and cold he wouldn't be in this situation. I brushed a few stray hairs from his face.

"B-Bakura-sama..." Ryou whispered gently as I started walking, leaving Malik and Marik alone to giggle as they pleased. "I'm sorry..."

"No," I replied gently, kissing his forehead. "This is my fault Ryou, not yours... Go to sleep."

"Bakura-sama... I..." The boy tried to say something put I pulled him in closer and stroked his hair gently, I didn't want him to hurt himself.

Now you tell me that you want to leave me
But darling, I just can't let you

Slowly I walked onward, carrying my precious cargo. "Just sleep little one.."

Ryou stirred slightly in his sleep. His darkness never called him by any affectionate terms, it was always some insult. But this, this was different. He pressed his face into Bakura's chest. "I love you Bakura-kun..." He mumbled softly.

I held Ryou closer, daring not to believe what he'd just said. He loves me? He really said it... I want to believe it so badly! Oh Ryou....

The innocent one curled his fingers around Bakura's sweater. A smile played upon his lips.

"Silly boy..." Bakura fondled his hair. Then leaned down and whispered in his ear. "I'll always protect you."
