From the time the door was thrown open to the time Tea threw the light switch, Bakura and Ryou had time to untangle themselves and be standing flushed and horny next to each other, both wishing the guests would go away. Ryou stepped forward, a welcoming smile plastered firmly on his face, and greeted them.
“Hello. It's so nice to see all of you. We have games and refreshments in the living room, and we can play any games you brought there.” With that, Ryou led his friends from the kitchen through the door-less doorway to the living room, beckoning for the reluctant Bakura to follow. A coffee table in the corner was piled with games, while movies and video games were stacked neatly near the TV.
“Ryou,” Yugi piped up, “Where should we put the presents?”
“Oh, I didn't really think of that,” laughed Ryou. “We could put them in that corner there, and they should be out of the way. Now, what do you want to play first?”
Apples to Apples!” came the unanimous vote. In other words, Joey and Tristan shouted and everyone else shrugged.
“I'll pass,” muttered Bakura, and retreated to the couch. Ryou pouted, but let him be.
In the end, despite Joey and Tristan's superior lungpower, Mai won. Tea clapped her on the back and giggled, Ryou offered a soft “Congratulations,” and Joey and Tristan stared openmouthed and disbelieving at the victor. Yami laughed out loud at the two's belligerent annoyance.
“All right,” asked Bakura, “what next?”
And so the evening wore on until they were sprawled about with empty plates of cake and ice cream, talking and passing around jokes.
“Oh my God, you guys will never believe what happened after you two left the faire!” Tristan started, laughing, but as he opened his mouth to launch the story, Joey pounced, covering Tristan's mouth and screaming, “Don't you dare I will kill you!”
Yugi giggled but remained silent, knowing better than to intrude. Serenity, however, had no qualms opening her mouth. “Cutting to the chase, Kaiba asked him out.”
Joey, pissed but defeated, flicked her off and pouted. She smiled radiantly back at him. Bakura, who had remained silent for the most part, laughed. “I take it from the mutt's reaction that he said yes.”
Joey glared, pointedly ignoring the comment.
Ryou sighed in sympathy, but seemed decidedly amused by the situation. Mai and Yami seemed unmoved, but Tea wore a funny grin and threw an odd look at Mai, despite the fact that Tea had probably been there when it happened.
Then Tea flushed and muttered, “You tell them, Mai.”
Mai's face spread into a feline grin. “Tea and I are together now, too. It seemed an appropriate time to tell you,” Mai's grin widened, “and while we're on the topic, what exactly were you and Bakura doing when we came in, Ryou?” Thanks to Mai's interference, Tea stopped covering her face with her hands and gave a grateful smile to Mai, sliding closer to slip an arm around the older girl's waist. She had wanted to tell all of her friends, but it was just so embarrassing!
Ryou, on the other hand, opened and closed his mouth, feeling like a freshwater fish thousands of miles from home and suddenly tossed into freezing cold saltwater. It was an uncomfortable feeling. “Well, I...” Bakura rescued him, coming behind the flustered boy and wrapping his arms around Ryou's shoulders.
“Much the same thing you and Tea were doing when I called you earlier, I'm sure.” Bakura looked pointedly at Mai, who simply nodded.
“Certainly a night for romance,” Mai laughed, shattering any vestiges of the tension.
“Well buddy, guess we're outcasts here, no girlfriends to speak of,” Tristan voiced, punching Yugi jokingly in the arm. Yugi shrugged, a slight blush marring his complexion, but didn't contest Tristan's observation. None of the more observant group members commented, though.

The night ended in good spirits, and the friends departed. Mai and Tea left together in Mai's burgundy Stratus, Yami drove Yugi home, and Serenity, Joey, and Tristan left together, all certain of a good tomorrow, even if it was school.
That left Ryou and Bakura standing together but apart, unsure now that they had time to think. Things were moving so fast, and Ryou realized it had only been 24 hours since he'd come up with his silly scheme to see if Bakura liked him. It had only been 24 hours since he'd walked in on Bakura kissing another boy. Ryou couldn't find it in himself to doubt Bakura, however. Perhaps he loved too much to mind.
Bakura stood and wondered what would happen next, where this all would go. True, he wanted Ryou, but in the whirlwind of the last day and a half, everything had changed. He'd gone form wanting to protect Ryou from himself to wanting to keep Ryou to himself and never ever share.
Still, he couldn't rush things. That would only make it worse in the long run. Sighing, Bakura grabbed Ryou's hand and pulled him up the stairs. Just because he wanted to move things slowly didn't mean he couldn't snog with Ryou. All night long.
The slow, teasing kisses, touching, the knowledge that it wouldn't go beyond this sensual foreplay, trusting the person that was the warm body next to him, Ryou fell into that state just before sleep when reality and dream are indistinguishable. Warms hands caressed his body; warm, moist lips suckled his; a warm tongue touched his tongue and lips and neck; gentle nips kept him just barely awake. Occasionally he pulled Bakura closer for a more intimate kiss. In his semiconscious state, however, he wondered when he would wake to find this all a dream. Drifting in this haze of bliss, the warmth, the affection of Bakura's gentle, soothing touch, Ryou tried to pretend he would not wake. If he never woke, this happy fantasy could become his reality. After all, in real life Bakura would never want him. But there is no such thing as real life, the real world. Ryou was safe with this dream Bakura. So he snuggled closer, drifting finally into slumber.
It wasn't until hours later that he woke to find Bakura gone.

Well. If you're wondering where Serenity came from, I realized I forgot her and added her in the last chapter, so yeah. I don't like writing filler! The party was hell for me until I realized what I could do with it. Predictably, there will be a few sequels and side stories to this. First, however, we shall deal with our star couple!
I love you Minna-san, please review! It speeds my creative process (even if I can't see the new ones right now for some reason).
