Chapter 3

“You're bleeding.” Yami pointed out, rather unnecessarily, but it seemed that it was the only comment his frazzled mind could make at that time. It was just…
This put a whole new spin on things.
His servant was more than just a simple servant. She was… a guard of sorts, perhaps his personal bodyguard.
As he watched, the tridents glowed and once more became two golden studs. She put them back in her ears, hissing in pain.
She was bleeding.
“Maha, if you do that, they'll get infected. Let me help you.”
She looked almost frightened as she took her hands away from her face. He frowned, as he touched the wounds on her body. The ones on her face were superficial, and he could fix them later. Not deep, they would heal, but they may scar… and he did not want that.
He placed his hand over the gash on her shoulder, and pushed.

She gave what sounded like a choked cry as red lightning crackled into her body. He did not move. He could feel flesh and bone and blood underneath his hand, and he liked it that way. She would be fixed. She was supposed to be perfect, after all. He moved his hands to his ears, watching flesh close up in her ragged lobes.
His suspicions had been correct, when the pain from his earlier wounds had vanished during their walk.
The power to heal was a rare power indeed.
Perhaps he had been some sort of Healer at court? And then it had happened? Something must have! Well, and then what?
Had he killed someone he should have healed? Was that why they were in exile? And even now, they were being hunted.
It did not bode well.
The wolves had been easy to get rid of, but he had a feeling that whatever they sent next time would be more dangerous. They would be prepared.
“We should leave this place, Maha.”
“Yes, Master.” She breathed, as he finally removed his hands from her face. “I understand.”
They filled the waterskin with water, and set off.
She was feeling that magnetic tug inside of her body again. It must mean something important. But what was it? Oh, if she could remember…
She ignored the urge to kneel in front of Yami - now was not the time for it - and they walked on.

“Damn it! I thought you erased their memories with that potion it took you six months to brew! At the very least, there should have been enough venom in the mix to kill them or leave them permanently paralyzed! It should have been an easy task, you incompetent fool!”
“I did get rid of their memories!”
“So how come they just got rid of all our Silver Fang pack?”
“I…I don't know…”
“Well, you'd better start looking it up, shouldn't you?”
“But-but Master, I do not know how to scry….”
“Damn it! And the Sennen Tauk is useless, since you idiots didn't manage to properly kill Mahaado or steal the Sennen Ring!”
“I'm sorry!”
“Get out!”
“Sir?” Another voice piped up. “What-what should we do with the men who died fighting them?”
“Bury them outside. And call Priest Shadah and High Priest Set.”
“Yes, Priest Akunadin.”

“Aishizu, I'm frightened. If the Pharaoh and Priest Mahaado are truly dead… they were so young - just children!”
“Shh. We need to get out of here, Karim… we both know it. We don't fit into Set and Akunadin's plan. We're collateral damage. He'll kill us either way.”
“You cannot be thinking of-.” He looked at her. She looked back at him. He tightened his grip on the Sennen scales.
“I will not accept that, Aishizu. I am not leaving you behind. We will find a way.”
“There is a way.”
“You don't think…”
He stared at the words written in hieratic on the scroll, Aishizu… Aishizu… I wish we didn't have to do this…
But there is nothing else we can do.
Their bodies hit the floor, as Curse of Dragon and Spirit Supiera soared into the skies, Sennen Items in hand.
At least they would be out of Akunadin's greedy claws.
Now, all they had to do was find the Pharaoh and Mahaado… they could not be dead! They could not be dead…
If they were, well, all hope was lost, wasn't it?

“Master… I've been thinking… what are we going to do about food?”
Yami frowned. Honestly, he had also been thinking about that, but he had so far been unable to come up with a satisfactory solution. Even if the did find a village, they had nothing of value to sell or trade. Or perhaps, he could use his skills as a Healer?
It was worth a try…
“Master?”
“Shh, Maha. It is all right. You worry too much.” It rolled off his tongue as though he had said it a thousand times before. He probably had.

They headed to the village, and there, as luck would have it, there was a fairly wealthy merchant who was suffering from an unknown illness.
Yami presented himself as a wandering Healer, and Maha as his assistant, and they were admitted, despite the incredulous looks from the servants. Yami didn't blame them, the two of them might be wearing linen, but they were completely free of adornments.
Maha explained in a soft voice that robbers had ambushed them in the desert, and they had barely escaped with their lives.
That seemed acceptable.
Once in the sickroom, she shooed everyone out. Why? Instinct, she supposed. She explained that her Master needed absolute silence to meditate upon his healing magic.
The servants had frowned, but nodded.
Maha had stood guard with tridents in hand, just in case, and Yami had laid hands upon the man, and in moments, his eyes had opened and he looked healthier than he had before.
The merchant rewarded them with many bags of gold. He could afford it certainly, and he also offered them lodging in his house.
It was the best offer they had, so they took it.

Wahey! Fic totally did several 180-degree turns!
Next, we might feature Mahaado and Yami as tomb robbers! Will Yami rob his own tomb? Will Mahaado rob his? Will they meet Thief King Bakura and become allies? Lord knows! So does the plotbunny!
