Epilogue
~*~*~*~
Vash sat outside the throne room waiting for King Kazuma to see him. He smiled slightly as he stared at his reflection in a nearby mirror. His eyes still so vibrant, his hair the color of silver, and his face withered by time.
His eyes played over the walls of the hall, coming to a painting of two good friends. He looked at the image of Belle and Sesshoumaru. The tall king was looking at his queen, his golden eyes burning with the fire of passion as she reached out, making sure he was real.
Vash recognized it as a gift that Taisho had painted for his parents before he took the throne, it was an anniversary gift. Vash had been there when he had presented it. It was of when Sesshoumaru rescued Belle from Naraku at the final battle.
He got up and walked down the hallway, on the wall was a holographic projector and he slowly reached out, thinking of the one thing he knew was on it.
The hall became a ballroom and various couples danced around the now ancient plant. He watched as Raine and Zarbon passed him. The gray in Zarbon's hair giving him a distinguished look even as he whispered into Raine's ear; she blushed and slapped him on the arm as they continued to dance across the floor.
Slowly the crowd parted and Belle and Sesshoumaru danced in the center of the crowd, unaware of the people around them as they stared into each other's eyes. They smiled at each other and slowly danced around like the fairy tale Prince and Princess they were rumored to be.
Then the most painful couple passed by him. His younger self dancing with J'dee as they tried to get the hang of the ballroom dancing, both failing and laughing about it. The gray in J'dee's hair was mostly from raising their three children to adulthood.
Everyone turned to see the young King Taisho standing with champagne glass raised and Vash took in the image of Taisho toasting himself and the other survivors of the Saiyan slavery. Sesshoumaru barked something at his son and Belle shook her head as she said something to her son. Taisho laughed and blushed as two small children rushed out from under table to Belle. She lifted up her two grandchildren as the ballroom laughed and Raine and J'dee rushed over to look at the two little Yamainu princes. One was graced with Belle's eyes and the other with her face, obviously her human DNA was still affecting the Yamainu royal bloodline.
J'dee giggled and called to someone. Vash felt his eyes tear up as his children approached the little children and they all giggled and fawned over Belle's grandchildren.
The hologram ended soon after the dancing resumed and Vash sighed heavily before turning to see King Kazume standing there watching.
“How are you fairing, Ancient One?” the King asked and Vash studied his face. The legacy of Sesshoumaru and Belle was still clear even in the face of their great, great-grandson. His large eyes were blue and his long hair was that strange mix of silver and black that many of the Yamainu descendants of his friends' had.
“I'm nearing the end,” Vash stated with a crooked smile and the King nodded, he was coming to the end of his rule and his son had yet to find a mate.
“I see, you are making the last round I assume then,” King Kazume said and Vash nodded before looking at the hologram projector.
“Yes, I found some things of Belle's, I wanted to leave them in the tomb for her,” Vash said as he turned to look at the King.
“Of course, I will see about opening it, how long will you be staying with us?” Kazume asked.
“Only for a day, then I must return to my home. I have a feeling I don't have long, so I want to be with J'dee near the end,” Vash said and Kazume nodded.
“I understand, I'll see to opening the tomb, please wait in the sitting room. I'll come as soon as the tomb has been opened,” Kazume said and Vash smiled as he entered the large and comfortable room that Belle had decorated long ago.
~*~*~*~
“The crypt is ready for opening, this way Ancient One,” Kazume said and Vash nodded as he got up. Slowly he thought about all of them aging, growing old, and dying. Part of Vash was happy the way it went…with J'dee as the last.
He had gotten to spend a wonderfully long life with her. They had seen their children grow and have families, J'dee had even gotten to see her great-grandchildren, but not long after the last of the great-grandbabies were born, J'dee got sick.
Vash sighed as he walked down the corridor and thought about J'dee's final years. She was strong and healthy for so long, it was a shock when she got sick. It was really a blessing that she fell asleep one night and didn't wake up when Vash went to bed. She didn't really suffer at all, just complained about the bed rest that was supposed to get her back to normal.
Vash chuckled as he remember the day before she died he had to physically push her back into the bed, she took a lot out of him that day and he began to feel his age. It wouldn't be much later after her death that he began to show/feel his age. His hair began graying and his face wrinkling, it was like J'dee had been his sun and with her death his own began to approach.
“I hope you don't mind waiting while I help my brothers open the tomb,” Kazume said as he headed to the controls where Inu Suke and Fumaru were waiting for their brother.
~*~*~*~
The brothers were arguing over how to open the door for the second hour and Vash had to fight a chuckle as he looked at the three before his thoughts turned to Raine and Zarbon. It had been sad to hear of their deaths. Of course, they were lucky to go together in a starship explosion.
It had been quite sad for most of space when the two passed. They left no remains to be buried so Raome had painted a portrait of her namesake and her husband. It was hung in the great hall of Zarbon's family, millions honored the fallen royals. Of course, soon after legislation was passed for elderly pilots to have their ships and skills tested yearly.
Vash sighed as he watched the door open. Finally, those three boys fought more than any other siblings of Belle and Sesshoumaru's line.
~*~*~*~
Vash entered the crypt after chasing the three brothers away and walked down the long hallways where the bodies of the Yamainu Royals were cryogenically frozen to look like sleeping angels.
Vash passed Taisho and his queen, stopping to look at the elderly King who had been born in slavery and replaced with the dead child of Fay and Yaten. Vash sighed as he looked at the feet of the next two rulers, not quite able to bring himself to look at the too young faces of Sesshoumaru and Belle.
Their passings had been the hardest…for everyone. True, they got to see the birth of their grandchildren, but they had started young and so did their children. In reality they could have passed for the parents of their grandchildren at the time of their passing.
Vash looked at their faces and thought about how their's had been the most tragic of the deaths. They had all been celebrating one of the anniversaries of their group, Vash couldn't remember which one, it was written down somewhere anyway. They had all been there when Belle began complaining of headaches and heading to bed early for a post dinner nap and then getting back up to talk with the group till the early hours of morning.
Vash closed his eyes and remembered how they had been about to play a couples card game when Sess went to retrieve his partner. The howls that came from their bedroom chilled Vash to the bone, even today. It had been the most terribly heartbreaking wail that escaped Sesshoumaru's throat when he found Belle dead.
J'dee and Raine had tried to comfort him but he just sat on his bed, rocking the body of his mate back and forth. He howled until his voice gave out and only released Belle when he collapsed under the weight of sleep the next morning.
Zarbon, Vash, Hiei, Kurama, Inu Yasha, Yusuke, Kazume, and Sesshoumaru's children couldn't even get him to come out of the silent and brooding state he was in after he awoke to find his mate was truly gone.
Vash stared at Belle, she was beautiful, even in death, perhaps that was why in the days following her death Sess would slip into the crypt and sleep beside her body. The group knew of it and the tomb was kept at a comfortable temperature, after all the coffins of the royals were the true source of their cryogenic preservation.
Vash sighed, it had been J'dee and Raine to find Sesshoumaru dead beside his dead mate. The doctors couldn't come up with the true reason he had died but everyone agreed on one theory.
“He died of a broken heart,” Vash said as he looked at the two `headstones' at the foot of Sess and Belle's coffins. Vash pulled two small items out of his jacket and placed them on the ledge of Belle's coffin. He had found them not too long ago when gardening.
The last visit Belle and Sess went on to see him and J'dee, Belle had lost her beloved diary she had kept since the first day of her capture as well as the holographic necklace she had worn since she had received it decades ago.
The diary was a little dusty but the necklace was completely repaired. Vash smiled as he set it down and looked at Belle and Sess.
“It was good to see you, Old Friends, I'm sorry, but this is probably the last time I'll see you in this world, I hope you're waiting up for me in the next one with J'dee, Raine, Zarbon, and all the kids,” Vash chuckled as he headed out fully aware of the two children who had snuck into the tomb while he was paying his respects, he would let Kazume know about them when he left.
~*~*~*~
The little Yamainu girl ran and hid behind the coffin of the beautiful Queen in her storybooks. The little Yamainu boy had been chasing her again with his toy sword. He stopped in front of the great King he was descended from and from all the stories his father told him.
The little girl climbed up onto the top of the Queen's coffin to look in on her. The little boy looked up and quickly crouched so she couldn't see him as she looked at the `sleeping' Queen.
“How pretty,” the little girl whispered as she wagged her tail. Suddenly the little boy jumped up and was about to hit her with his sword when he saw the look of pain in her eyes. He stopped and looked at his sleeping ancestor, the great King would never hurt a girl. With a sigh the little boy put his sword away and put on his best `King' face.
“Come on, we're going to get in trouble,” he stated and the girl looked at him as he started off, once he was off the coffins she tackled him, knocking them both to the ground, giggling as she looked at him. He glared at her, but still, he didn't try to hurt her.
There was a soft thunk and the two looked to see a necklace on the floor, the little girl picked it up and pressed the button. The hologram showed the King and Queen dancing before coming together in a romantic kiss.
“Awww!” the little girl cried as she quickly grabbed the necklace and held it in her small, clawed hands. “It's beautiful.”
“Do you say that about everything?” the boy asked as he watched the King moved so gracefully without even trying.
“Inu Sesshou, you can really be mean!” the girl stated and turned away from him, pressing the button again to watch the Queen and King take their vows again before the court. The boy sighed, he didn't want to offend his playmate.
“Alright Beru, I'm sorry. Is that what you wanted to hear?” he asked and she glared at him before putting the necklace back.
“You shouldn't apologize when you don't mean it,” she stated as she stared off on all fours. Inu Sesshou sighed as he looked at her as she left him alone. He rubbed his head and thought for a moment before looking at the necklace. He bowed as he took it off the coffin. “Great ancestor, I need your help. Beru is my best friend and I want to make it up to her, please, do not be offended when I give this to her. She is very fond of you and the stories about you, it would bring her much pleasure if she were to have something like this.” His hair blew in a light breeze and if felt almost as if something was right about giving this necklace to her. He looked up for a moment and felt happy.
“Inu Sesshou! Where are you pup? Prince Saurben is here with his little playmate,” his mother's voice called and Inu Sesshou ran out of the tomb, the necklace in his hands as he ran off to find Beru, she would undoubtedly be playing with Lain and Saurben in the garden. She loved to play under blue skies and Inu Sesshou smiled slightly, he may play rough with her most of the time, but he loved to see her smile.

The End
~*~*~*~
Author Note 2: Yes, Inu Sesshou is Sesshoumaru's reincarnation, Beru is Belle's reincarnation, Prince Saurben is Zarbon's reincarnation, and Lain is Raine's reincarnation. I left J'dee in limbo because Vash is still alive. So the whole group gets to have another lifetime to enjoy each other's company. I hope you've enjoyed this fanfic, it took a few months to write and I let it remain in incomplete status for a few years. I'm evil that way. If you're a fan of Replacements I'm rewriting the Epilogue for it so look for it.
