Kagome sighed for what seemed like the millionth time as she was once again wished a happy birthday. All of her so called friends had pretty much drank themselves into a stupor, with the exception of Ayame, Sesshoumaru, Kina, Kara, and Shiori. Sesshoumaru had been eyeing her strangely ever since she had arrived and she had no idea why, but she decided now would be a good time to find out. She approached him slowly and motioned outside and he nodded. Once they were safe from being heard, she asked. “What's wrong aniki? You've been looking at me weird all day.”

He gave her yet another strange look before answering, “your scent has changed and it has me wondering if your relationship with this boy has really progressed that far.”

As soon as she realized what he meant her face turned bright red and she cursed demonic noses. “I told you that I really liked him.”

He sighed softly and shook his head at her, “but you're living a lie, Kagome. You can't keep this relationship up if he doesn't actually know who you are and I refuse to let you be hurt when he does find out.”

Tears slowly built up in the girl's eyes, but she held them back because she knew that he was right. Hiei would not want her once he learned the truth about her, and they couldn't keep dating with him in the dark about it either. “I'm supposed to meet him again tonight, I'll tell him it's over then.”

Sesshoumaru hated the way she looked in that moment and pulled her into his embrace for comfort. “I'm sorry imouto, but it's for the best.”

It was dark out and Kagome quietly snuck out of her friend's window and outside to her car. It was almost midnight and she was supposed to be meeting Hiei at Shiori's house soon, though she wasn't looking forward to the confrontation at all. With a sad sigh she left Ayame's and slowly made her way to another friend's house. Shiori was waiting at the gate for her and she smiled softly as she waved hello to her friend. “Is Hiei here?”

“Not yet, he and my two anikis had to go do something for Daioh-sama,” Shiori said softly as she motioned Kagome into the house. “You seem upset Kagome-sama, is something the matter?”

“After tonight, I doubt you'll see much of me here anymore. I'm going to break things off with Hiei.”

“What?! But why Kagome?”

The young woman giggled at that even though it looked as if she wanted to cry. “You didn't say sama that time.”

“Did Hiei do something wrong? I mean this is the happiest I've seen him in forever!”

“Shh… Shiori, and no he did nothing wrong, but you know who I am, so you should know that this relationship is never going to work.”

Before either girl could say anything more the front door banged open and in walked three men, all were wounded in some way and didn't look very happy about it. Kagome's eyes widened as she took them in, especially Hiei who had several gashes. Kuroune was the first to speak as he noticed their looks. “Some guys that called themselves Scorpians attacked us. Fought pretty well too, but they weren't good enough to win.”

It was a while later when Kagome finally managed to get Hiei alone and with a heavy heart preceded to tell him things were over. His response had her shrinking away as he glared at her and started asking what the hell he had done to her for her to want to break things off. “It… Things would just never work out.”

“And what makes you think it wouldn't work out? What on Earth suddenly made you decide that we're not good together?”

She attempted to speak several times and finally tears began spilling from her eyes as she collapsed to her knees on the floor. Hiei looked on, helpless, as he had never been good with crying women. “My… aniki spoke to me… What he said is true… It just… I don't wanna split but…”

Finally he dropped to his knees as well and pulled her into his arms, allowing her to cry into his shoulder as he growled lowly on instinct to calm her. It worked rather well and soon her sobs quieted, though tears continued to fall. “Now why don't you tell me what's really going on?”

Glistening silver eyes slowly looked into his own crimson and she decided that she no longer cared what he did to her, but she had to tell him, everything. “My aniki spoke to me today at my party, and he was right. Our relationship will never work because you have no idea who I am. And when you find out, you'll only hate me.”

She looked away as she said the last part, but he gently lifted her chin and looked into her eyes. “Let me decide that for myself. As to who you are, your name is Kagome Higurashi, your favorite color is blue, you love going fast, you're a damn good racer, your birthday is September 18th, and you're my girlfriend.”

A sad smile adorned her face at that and she shook her head in the negative. “My last name isn't actually Higurashi, that's the name of my birth parents.”

He raised a brow in question at that, “I've seen you write Higurashi on your assignments.”

“That's the name daddy had me enroll into classes with; he didn't want me targeted for my family associations.”

“And what do you mean by that?”

“I'm so so sorry Hiei,” Kagome said softly as more tears fell from her eyes. “Before I tell you, I just want you to know one thing.”

“And what is this one thing?” Hiei asked as he began to feel dread at what she might tell him.

“I love you, Hiei,” she whispered softly as she looked into his surprised crimson eyes. “But I know you're going to hate me now.”

“And why would I hate you?” he questioned as he tried to calm down his now rapid heartbeat from her admission.

“Because I'm a Taishio,” she whimpered as she looked down at the ground and awaited whatever he was going to do to her.

It was morning by the time Kagome made it back to Ayame's, and all of the other girls were wide awake and waiting for her. Kagome smiled softly at them before collapsing on the bed. Kara slowly approached her and sat down next to her, “papa called and said momma is doing better.”

Kagome nodded at that before looking at her little sister, “I'm fully accepting the blood bond today, so will you visit momma for me?”

That had Ayame's and Kina's eyes widening and both appeared shocked at her statement. Ayame opened and closed her mouth a few times before finally deciding on what to say. “But you've had the blood bond for so many years now, why do you suddenly want to accept it?”

Kagome just shrugged her shoulders at that, “I'm just ready to be the real me and quit pretending to be someone I'm not.”

“But you were born a human,” Ayame started as she looked at her friend. “A gifted human at that.”

“Hai, but I made the decision to become a demon when I was younger.”

“Kags, what do you mean accept the blood bond?” questioned Kara as she looked completely confused.

Kagome smiled softly at her. “When I was younger and I first came to live with papa, he offered me a choice and I accepted. He adopted me in the youkai way, and made it so that I wouldn't transform into a youkai until I decided to fully accept the bond.”

“So you're gonna become a youkai like Sesshoumaru-onii-sama?”

“Hai,” Kagome whispered softly as she closed her eyes fully and completely accepted her demon blood.

Monday morning was cold and classes were once again being held as the Reikans made their way to classes. In their first class they were surprised to see a new girl; she looked familiar but appeared to be an inu-youkai. She sat down two rows in front of them with the girl they knew to be Ayame. “I'm still not use to all of these new senses, and I swear if I smell one more rancid person I'm going to kill them.”

Ayame just giggled at her, “calm down Kagome, it's not that bad once you get used to it.”

“Get used to it?! Hell no!” she disagreed while the Reikans were all in a somewhat state of shock. A cocky looking guy was about to sit next to the girls, but the girl called Kagome just glared at him. “You're not sitting next to me unless you want to die. Go take a shower.”

The man's eyes widened and he stormed off as Ayame broke out into laughter. “Did you see the look on his face?”

“To hell with the look on his face, he smelled like year old sweaty gym socks!”

Ayame snickered about that, “and what do I smell like?”

Kagome smirked at her, “wet dog.”

A glare, “not funny Kagome.”

“Alright, like lavender and lilies I suppose,” she said.

“And what about Sesshoumaru?”

“An ocean breeze, and before you ask Inuyasha smells like pine.”

A giggle escaped the wolf, “at least you're feeling better.”

“I'm not better,” she murmured softly as she grabbed her things. “I'm just really good at hiding how I feel, Ayame.”

The wolf's eyes widened before she also grabbed her things and raced after the other girl. “Kagome-chan please wait! I didn't mean to upset you!”

Most of the Reikans were very surprised at that, except perhaps Hiei. Only slight surprise showed in the hybrid's eyes. Yusuke kept looking to where the two girls had disappeared to and then back at their friend. The question was obvious in his eyes, but Youko was the one that voiced it. “What happened to Kagome?”

Hiei shrugged and Kuroune was the one that answered the question for them, “according to Shiori she has demonic parents and she's never fully accepted the bond that the adoption brought.”

“So she became a demon over the weekend?” questioned Yusuke as he looked at the bat demon before moving his attention to the hybrid. “And why the hell didn't you know about this?”

“We broke up,” was his simple response as he kept his attention focused on the front of the room.

“WHAT?!” they all exclaimed as their eyes turned to him. That had been something that none of them had been expecting. All of them knew how close the two had gotten and to hear that they weren't together anymore threw them all for a loop.

“We broke up the last we spoke,” he responded as he continued to ignore the looks on their faces.

“But why?” Youko asked as he looked to their friend. The only answer that they received was a slight shrug of his shoulders.

Ayame found her friend outside sitting in the park practically crying her eyes out as she hid herself in the shade of the tree. The wolf demoness slowly approached her friend and wrapped her arms around the other girl and pulled her close. Kagome allowed her head to rest on her friend's shoulder and the comfort to surround her. “I'm sorry that I brought it up Kagome.”

The girl nodded as she pulled away and looked at her friend's face. “It's alright Ayame, but you should go back to class.”

“What about you?”

“I'll be alright, just take some notes for me, `kay?”

“Alight Kagome, I'll see you after class then?” a nod was her only answer as the she wolf left to return to class.

Minutes passed by before a voice interrupted her thoughts, this one deep and masculine. “Odd to find you crying out here all alone.”

Soft silver eyes looked up into gold with a sad tint before returning to the ground. The silver fox could do whatever he wanted in her opinion. “Go `way.”

“Not until I have my answers,” he murmured as he approached and took hold of her chin, forcing her to look up at him. “Why did you and Hiei break up?”

“Because I'm his enemy,” was her response as more tears began cascading down her face.

“His enemy?” he murmured before looking her over. Her features were that of an inu-youkai, the same type of demons that the Tashios are. When his mind reached this conclusion his eyes widened in surprise and disbelief. “Your adopted parent is Tashio?”

“H-hai,” she whimpered through her tears. “I'm sorry, I just couldn't stop myself.”

“Stop yourself from what? Betraying us?” Youko demanded with a growl in his voice.

She shook her head in the negative at that, “daddy knows nothing about my seeing Hiei. I just couldn't stop myself from falling in love.”

“If you love him why did you leave him?” the fox demon demanded harshly.

Kagome looked at him with anger and tear filled eyes before she lifted her hands and blasted him backwards, away from her. “We wouldn't have worked out because of my family! I told him that night, everything… Do you honestly think he'd accept me after knowing that I intentionally hid the truth about my family from him?”

Youko shook his head to clear it before his eyes once more narrowed as another thought occurred to him. “What about Kara?”

“My little sister, her name is Kamara Tashio, but I call her Kara.”

His eyes darkened at that, “I was going to ask her out…”

“Just don't hurt her,” Kagome murmured softly as she once again looked to the ground.

“What? You still expect me to date her after finding out she's our enemy?”

“Do you like my sister?”

“Why does it matter?”

“Do you like my sister?” she once again repeated.

“Yes,” he growled out.

“Then don't let who our family is stop you from making her happy, because I know she likes you.”

“You wouldn't care that I'd be dating your sister? And what about your brothers and father?”

Her silvery eyes looked up and met his own gold with a determined glint, “don't hurt her or risk her life by exposing her and no one else needs to know the truth. That you know is enough for your relationship to have a chance.”
