Chapter 10 The Family Tree

Kagome had seen some scary things in her life, some that would even make your eyes pop out, from spraying blood and guts from a vanquished demon to an extremely large transformed dog demon with poisoned drool coming from his jaws as he snapped at your heels as you ran to escape, from listening to a drunken aged miko known as Kaede sing during one of village festivals and then hit upon Inuyasha and Miroku, that had been very scary especially for those two. But the image that was before her was by far the scariest.

Her mother was flirting with Sesshomaru and he was actually flirting back with her, ‘oh kami save me from this sight.’ , thought Kagome with a glazed expression in her eyes.

She couldn’t help but stare as she sipped her now cold tea. It had been amusing to watch Hiei and others react when Sesshomara walked in escorted by her mother who now she noticed out of the corner of her eye, was stroking his tail it seemed, it made her own hands twitch too. ‘I must have inherited that weakness from mother.’

The spirit detectives were still now remarkable tense, Kuwabara actually looked like he was going to pass out at first so Souta had took him back upstairs after surprising Kagome with his cheerful greeting to Sesshomara by calling him “Hiya Uncle Sess.”, Sesshomara had just rustled Souta’s hair back in answer.

As for Hiei, Yusuke and Kurama, well at the moment they were sitting next to her quietly watching her mother and Sesshomara talk. She was surprised that even Yusuke hadn’t said anything from what she had briefly gathered he seemed to quite voluble young man.

“Mother!”

Kunloon looked up to see her daughter’s impatient face staring at her.

“Sorry Kagome please forgive me, I haven’t seen Sesshomaru for such a long time and at our lunch date today he was called away before we really talked.”

“Lunch DATE!” Kagome’s voice came out strangled then.

“Kunloon.” Sesshomaru’s cold but smooth voice interrupted them both.

“Yes fluffy.” a mischievous grin came from her mother as she said it, Kagome noticed in horror, Sesshomara just sighed.

“Could you get the scroll for me please?”

A strange look passed other Kunloon’s face, though Kagome didn’t know, certain emotions were now coming from her mother which the demons could smell. Nervous, trepidation, relief and then a slight sadness.

“Of course dear.”, and of she hurried out the room.

Now silence once again reigned over the room, Kagome for once was quiet; she didn’t have a clue what to say. That’s when something happened to Kagome whilst her mind fazed out. Something that would over the next few days become a embarrassment and a pain to her as she suffered and not only her too, for the three sitting next to her, it would be something rather painfully for them too, because that was when the curse decided to raise its head and strike.

Kagome suddenly felt rather hot at that moment and then for some reason her body started tingling as if invisible hands seemed to be touching her body gently up and down. Kagome started to shiver and then gulped, her mouth felt rather dry, as she touched her mouth with her tongue to relieve the dryness, a sudden spasm rippled through her body as pleasurable ache started from inside and then she moaned out softly.

“Eeeepp.”

Kagome face went bright red as she suddenly came to, to see everyone staring at her. Sesshomaru’s left eyebrow was raised as he stared at her blandly, Kurama eyes were now a mixture of green and gold as Youko came more to the surface.

Actually Kurama was now fighting control for his body, ever since a smell of an intoxicating arousal came from the miko to hit his nose.

*‘Come on red let me out, it’s not like we have to hide, fluffy isn’t.’*

#‘No Youko we can’t besides I don’t trust you.’#

*‘Such little faith in me, come on that smell is killing me, lets help her at least relieve it and you know what else this means the curse is starting too.’#, Kurama could actually feel a happy grin from Youko then.

**‘The fox is right.’**

Yusuke was slightly aware of his team mates fluctuating aura then but more aware of Kagome’s arousal which had started to affect him too, as he felt painfully hard which with the tight jeans he had on was making him clenching his fists tight with frustration.

*‘Oh my Yusuke too, this is turning out to be quite fun.’*

Kurama groaned between fighting Youko, the smell of Kagome and his own arousal, well he was ready to hit something.

**‘Baka fox I’d thought you’d have more control over yourself.’**

*‘I think some one else is feeling the effects too.’*, mockingly Youko attacked Hiei.

**‘Hnn.’**

*‘Bingo!’*

A detached Sesshomaru watching just then was actually feeling rather amused though of course his bland face didn’t show it. Koenma had already informed him about the curse and its affects, which was the reason why he was called out of his luncheon with Kunloon. After a couple of satisfying threats to the silly prince he had actually already been on his way here to the shrine when Kunloon had phoned for him.

He had wondered occasionally over last few centuries how these four would meet for it had been prophesied by a member of his family which Kagome at last would find out about from the scroll and in the end it was himself with instructions to Rin for Koenma who set them up as it was.

He watched as Kagome flushed face started to fade as she calmed herself, such a strong young woman worthy of being a part of his family he thought with approval.

Kunloon finally returned carrying a large rolled up scroll elaborately tied in a red ribbon. There was energy of old magic coming from it. After placing the scroll in Sesshomaru’s hands, Kunloon went over to her daughter, a look of worry in her face as she saw the fading flush on Kagome‘s face.

“Are you feeling okay dear?”

Kagome went red once more.

“Eh fine.”

“Kagome this scroll is meant for you, I advise you to go some where private to open it, when you have finished, meet me in the well’s hut.”

Sesshomaru stood up, passed the scroll to Kagome and with a brief nod to Kunloon left elegantly.

“Kagome I think you should go to your room with that dear.”

Kagome stared at her mum, questions on her tongue but she just nodded and picked it up with a grunt, it was heavier than it looked and walked out of the kitchen to go upstairs to her room.

Yusuke stood up to follow her but Kunloon placed her hand on his arm to stop him and looked at him with a stern gaze. Yusuke swallowed, something was up.

“No dear, I’d like you to stay here, don’t worry about Kagome she will be safe, and I wish to talk to you three.”

Now Hiei had rarely felt fear in his life but something in this older woman’s face and tone of voice made him pause from ignoring her, so he relaxed once more into the chair where he to had arisen.

“Now as you may have gathered I not hundred percent happy with what is happening to my daughter. I suppose I should be used to the strange things and the hectic lifestyle she lives but this goes beyond that, so I suppose I’ll just have to deal with it, though god knows what my father will say when he finds out. Now you may wonder why I am accepting Kagome’s decision to mate with you three, well I understand my daughter, she has for as long as I have known her put other people needs before her own and I know she wouldn’t want to left you under such a spell with out trying to break it.”

“Are you sure onna it is not because her life is at stake?”

Kunloon just smiled at Hiei confusing him more.

“As you come closer to her Hiei you will one day come to understand just what sort of a girl Kagome is. Now I have been thinking about this and I think, well I insist actually before you mate with Kagome, that you three and her should get to know each other a bit better, from what I gather you have till the next full moon which gives you a bit of time.”

“You mean date.” Yusuke grinned at Kagome’s mother, for some reason he liked her, well it’s not every day you met a woman who accepted demons and three of them were about to mate with her daughter too.

“Yes but not just that, tell me do you live here or in Makai.”

“You know about Makai.” Kurama asked curiously.

“You’d be surprised at what I know; my daughter isn’t the only one to keep secrets.”

“Kurama and I share a large apartment, it’s about 30 minutes on the bus from here I’d say, and as for Hiei he sometimes bunks with us.”

“Perfect! Well then I think if you boys don’t disagree that Kagome should move in with you.”

“What.” Yusuke nearly fell of his chair in shock, not expecting that.

*‘Ohh I like the way she thinks, let me out to meet her personally, come on Kurama, Kagome has gone upstairs so I can control myself, plus I think her mother should meet all of her mates to be.’*

#‘I’m not so…’#

**‘Don’t worry fox; I think she will be fine.’**, Hiei surprisingly said.

Kurama still wasn’t sure, he’d never even shown his own mother who he truly was and he was worried about Kagome’s mother reaction to Youko but from what he gathered she was used to demons. From the lingering scents around the shrine and inside this house, a dog demon had been here recently, probably 2 to 3 days ago at least that, the scent wasn’t Sesshomaru’s neither.

“Mrs Higurashi some one would like to meet you, he is the other part of me who shares my body. Do you mind?”

Kunloon smiled inside she’d been wondering what the demon who shared this beautiful young man would look like actually.

“That would be nice dear, don’t look so nervous.”

“Wait I thought you needed that potion to change into Youko or be really pissed off or something.” Yusuke asked bluntly forgetting his manners in front of Kunloon.

Kurama grinned predatorily as Youko started to come out as he talked he transformed easily.

“It seems when my delightful miko returned me and Kurama back that there was a few nicer side effects to the curse.”

The Kitsune now standing up as he stretched and then with his natural in-born grace walked over to Kun-loon and took one hand and bowed over it and gentle kissed it.

As of course the hereditary weakness of Higurashi female line was awakened by the 7ft Kitsune’s ears and tails, which she immediately pounced upon to the others amusement. Youko with a pale face quickly stepped away from the woman to move his appendages out of harms way.

“I prefer it if you didn’t touch my ears and tails, only Kagome will be allowed.” Once he calmed down and then smiled at her charmingly.

Kunloon just laughed, “Oh my, Kagome will be ecstatic with those.”

Youko just grinned once more and said whimsically.

“I’m perfect for your daughter I believe.”

“Yes I do believe Kagome will be kept on her toes with you three for definite.”

Kunloon left the suddenly confused Kitsune as she walked out of the kitchen leaving the three detectives by themselves to answer the now ringing phone in the hallway.

“That went easy then I expected, normally mothers would kick us out and generally some screaming too is usually involved.” Yusuke pondered more to himself than the others.

“She is the same as her daughter, both have large hearts.”

“You are making me feel sick.” Hiei snorted in disgust at the apparent Kitsune’s softness.

“Feeling a bit agitated are we?”

“Hnn.”

“Maybe I should go upstairs and check on Kagome, I don’t like leaving her alone.”

“Stay here detective I will go. At least I can control myself.” Hiei reminding him of incident that had occurred just early.

“Hey it’s not my fault, god when I smelt her; I thought I was gone to explode.”

“Hmm I noticed.”

“Shut up Youko.” Came from both of the detectives.



Hiei stood up and was just about to walk out when a loud scream came from upstairs.

“It’s Kagome.”

Yusuke shouted out and quickly all three left and ran upstairs, Hiei in the lead found her room were her scared aura was coming from.

He burst through the door with the others behind and then stopped in shock which the other two echoed, mouths dropped at the image before them.

“Hey I heard a scream and it woke me up, what’s happened?”

Kuwabara came in the room and what he saw made his face flame and eyes bulge out in awe. That didn’t last long for the next moment he was knocked out onto the landing, a large bump appearing on his forehead.

“That was harsh.” Yusuke scolded, a part of him agreed with Hiei actions though he did wonder at the hybrids sudden show of possessiveness. The other more perverted side of him hadn’t taken his eyes of the glorious sight before him.

Kagome was standing on her bed dressed only in her underwear and in one raised hand the scroll clenched like a weapon. She was staring at the men with a look of shock and disbelief which promptly lead to fierce anger.

“Get outtttttttttttttttttttttt.”

In a blink Hiei appeared behind her and covered her mouth with one hand and the placed on her hip tightly which made her wriggling stop immediately.

“You screamed onna, why?”

Only a mumble was heard. Youko was checking the room out after managing to drag his gaze from Kagome’s enticing body, ‘Mmm she maybe small in height but other places make up for it.’ humming pleasantly he finally noticed something.

“Ah.” Over he strolled to bend down and picked up a small spider. “I believe this is why you screamed, he is so small I can’t believe you are scared of this.”

Youko bent up and walked over rather sadistically to Kagome who started struggling once more in Hiei’s grasp, who finally let go of her mouth.

“If you don’t get rid of that, you won’t have to worry about staying in that body any longer because I’ll bloody purify you instead of mating you.”

“Kagome what language!” A scolding voice came from the door, it was her mother who was now taking the sights in with wide eyes, especially the fact that Hiei was hugging her semi naked daughter and looked as if he wasn’t in a hurry to let go either.

“Oh my, I’ll come back later. Oh just before I forget, Houjo phoned for you. “

And off Kunloon went smiling and with a slight daydream about just who her first grandchild will look like, but leaving one girl in disbelief and the other three well lets just say they had their own personal day dreams too, though a certain hybrid would rather be tortured than admit to it.

Kagome now alone and safely covered up, was wondering if her day could really get any worse. It was just one thing after another really. She looked at scroll laying beside her on her bed and decided she may’s well get this over with.

The red ribbon was tied around several times, so it took her awhile before finally unwrapping the parchment which was rather long, Kagome’s eyes curiously widened, she was now staring at what seemed to be a family tree.

After half of an hour of staring at it, the knowledge showed to her was slowly sinking in, some pieces of the tree she already knew but others totally shocked her.

One part of it had brought tears to her eyes and some giggles, it seems that Miroku and Sango were her great-great-great several times removed grandparents, just think her great-grand father had asked her to bare his child. ‘Ewww’ she thought. But that strangely was one of the smallest shock she received whilst reading it, for another ancestor which started from the top, according to the family tree was none other than Midoroku but what topped that was Midoroku had a brother who was none other than Inu Taisho, Inuyasha and Sesshomaru’s father.

‘How can that be, it’s impossible, Midoroku was a human priestess and Inu Taisho a full-blooded dog demon.’ She had many questions and she wanted answers.

“She was adopted in to our family, my grandmother found her as a small child injured and alone in a village which had been decimated.”

“Demons?”

“No, it was ningens actually, bandits attacking for food.”

“But she was human, why didn’t your mother leave her at another village.”

“My grandmother had a small gift of the sight, she knew it was meant to be to find her and take care of her.”

“Oh.”

Kagome was sitting on the stairs that led down to the well which Sesshomaru was leaning against. He was easier to talk to than she expected, all those long years of living must have mellowed him slightly.

Sesshomaru started talking once more, his smooth timbre of voice spinning a tale which would make her eyes and body stiffen in surprise.

“My grandfather decided to adopt her by demon law which entailed a blood bond; it is similar to a mating bond. This is enhanced certain aspects of Midoroku including stretching her normal life expectancy.”

“Your grandfather shared his blood.”

“No my father actually though he was only a pup then, my grandparents thought it was wiser and it also created a stronger sibling bond between them.”

For some reason images of Shippo kept popping up then in her brain, she really missed her kit.

“Before Midoroku died in that last battle, she had recently given birth to a girl, the line you are descended from. I do not know who the father was; there was no record of it.”

“Hey can I call you Uncle fluffy then.” in a more mischievous tone more to hide what she was personally feeling at that moment. Sesshomaru just growled back.

“Hey, how comes you attacked me then in your fathers grave.”

“I did not know who you were, not till later on in the centuries when certain facts came aware to me. My family has always protected the descendants of Midoroku, to find you were one came as a surprise to me.”

“Oh…Is he still alive then?”

“Inuyasha is still alive and annoying me along with that kit of yours.”

“Shippo!”

“Yes Shippo.” The mischievous kitsune was one even he had found hard to control over the years especially when the kit had stopped fearing him, and when combined with Rin, the trouble the pair had caused over the centuries had been rather explosive.

He was surprised the pair hadn’t sneaked over the Makai border to see Kagome yet. Rin had come to regard Kagome as an older sister because of the care she had received in the last year before Kagome had returned to her own time. As for the Kitsune he knew that he thought Kagome as his second mother, Sesshomaru wondered how the kit would feel that he would have three fathers now, one of them though part of a human was still famous to this day in demon circles - Youko Kurama.

“Is there any other way to break the curse?” Kagome softly with a hopeful voice interrupted Sesshomaru’s thoughts.

“No there isn’t, my father had been acquainted with the curse and the clan who created it, the only one who knew its secrets was the master of that clan and he was destroyed 1000 years ago. Apparently there are rumours of some survivors living in Makai. But they are well hidden, it would take too much time to find them and you don’t have the luxury of that on your side.”

Kagome sighed in despair she thought maybe Sesshomaru would have been able to help her, suddenly a plan hit her desperate though it maybe.

“Why don’t I die and then you bring me back with the Tensaiga.”

Sesshomara stared at the young woman blandly.

“NO, you will mate with the three and that is final.”

Kagome pouted back and then gave him wide puppy dog eyes. Sesshomaru just sighed and crossed his arms as he stared back.

“Once you have mated with the three, you will be taken to some one called Genkai
and she will train you.”

“Who’s Genkai and why do I need training.”

“Koenma has also informed me that you are having trouble with your miko powers, he and I believe it is something with the fact that you have fused with the Shikon no Tama.”

Kagome stood up and thought as she straightened her skirt down.

“My powers have been hurting me and I have wondered why, I mean I can feel them but it’s as they are held back by a barrier, I don’t understand.”

“Genkai is powerful psychic and she will be able to help you. The Spirit Detectives are well acquainted with her; especially the one known as Yusuke, he has trained with her before.”

“Anything else!”

“Your sarcasm is not necessary, you will also be meeting other members of the family and start your new role within the family.”

“New role?”

“As I nor Inuyasha do not have a mate at this time, you will start sharing duties with Rin, as the Ruling Ladies of the West.”

“Wait Rin’s still alive and hey I thought you were going to mate with Kagura.”

Kagome briefly wished she hadn’t mentioned the last part as a look of an old pain and anger came into Sesshomaru’s face.

“I shared a blood bond with Rin when she came of a certain age and adopted her into my family as my daughter. As for Kagura, we did mate but she died a few years later after you left, our bond it seemed was not strong enough to save her. Kagura hadn’t totally left Naraku’s grasp it seemed.”

“But Naraku …”

“Another time Kagome, we shall talk about it then, but for now you have other things to deal with. I shall see you soon.”

With that Sesshomaru left the well’s hut leaving Kagome with even more questions than before.

“What…”

“ Yes dear I have packed a case for you, it should last you a while and I have put some money in your purse too.”

“But…”

“Is there a problem dear, I thought it was a good idea, the other three did agree with me and I do think you should get to know those boys a little bit better, don’t you.”

Defeated by her mother, Kagome just shrugged her shoulders.

“I guess mother.”

“I have written down our address and phone number for you Mrs Higurashi.”

“Thank you dear, oh and remember you have to phone Houjo back too Kagome. He did seem as if he had something urgent to talk to you about.”

“Mmm Ayumi said his parents shop needed some one to fill in for them, I thought I should put in for it, but it seems I am going to be busy.”

“Nonsense Kagome you should still phone.”

“Okay.”

After 15 minutes of saying goodbye to her mother and Souta, her grandfather still not returned from an old friend he’d being seeing that day, which she was kind of relieved about. Her mum said she would explain to grandfather about everything, some thing she herself had not been looking forward to. Now she was sitting in a taxi with Kurama and Yusuke as Hiei went ahead faster by himself to her new home with the three.

All Kagome wanted was a hot bath and bed, exhausted by the day’s events. It didn’t take long to reach their destination. Yusuke was carrying her heavy suitcase whilst she had her bag when Kurama opened the door to their ground floor flat. Everyone was quiet it seemed as they walked inside, Kagome herself didn’t know what to say to these guys, may be her mother had a point about getting to know them.

Yusuke walked into one room and lifted her case onto a comfortable sized bed in a pleasantly decorated room; it didn’t show as if it had been used much.

“This is the spare room, sometimes Hiei uses it but he prefers one of the large trees outside if he ever comes to stay.”

“Are you sure I can use this.”

“Sure that’s fine unless you want to share with me.” Yusuke now standing in the doorway leaning arrogantly on one side, smirked at her as she went bright red.

“Noo this fine.”

“Yusuke please, do not tease Kagome.” Kurama coming in from behind him had caught his last comment.

“Spoilsport, I’m going for a shower.” Yusuke went but then came back and poked his head back through.

“Hey, you can share my shower instead.” A large pillow was his answer.

“Please do not mind him, he is a bit rough around the edges but he does have his good points.” Kurama explained to the now flaming red faced girl sitting down on the bed

“Hmph reminds me of a pervert I used to know, I would have said they were related if I didn’t know better.”

“May I ask how you knew of Sesshomaru? Generally high-blooded demons do not get on friendly with humans.”

Kagome looked at Kurama in surprise, had not Koenma informed them of who she was.

“I met him a long time ago as well as the pervert who I just mentioned.”

“When you were a child.”

Kagome smiled at the young man mischievously which made him wary.

“No I met them about 3 years ago actually, but to them it was 500 years in the past.”

Kurama just stared back not sure he heard properly as for Youko well he was just in as much shock. As for an eavesdropping Hybrid currently sitting on a tree outside, he had just caught himself from falling off it.

In the next chapter, Kagome gets to know the three better and meets some of their friends and family too. Also Keiko pops up to cause a bit of trouble for Yusuke.

Big Drum-roll now

Well the winner for the first lemon is Kurama just barely, followed by Hiei and then coming last is poor Yusuke, he is the underdog isn’t he, bet he wished Rock, Paper and Scissors had been played.
