Title: Aka Nichibotsu
Chapter 7: Ankoku Bujutsukai

The laughter of children echoed throughout the small forest clearing. A small smile danced across her face as she watched them play a game of tag. It was so nice to be able to sit back and enjoy the scenery especially after tracking down the kakera for two hundred years. And after two hundred years, their Rin-chan was growing up. Their spell had worked. Rin-chan always expressed her desire to grow up to at least a young adult, because of a little crush she had on Kagome's little Forbidden One. Her smile widened at those fond memories, as she watched the now teenaged Rin play with the younger children from the safe village.
Rin turned around to look at her obasan, it had been awhile since she had seen her or any of them. But she was the only there with her. The others were off trying to find where the last kakera is. But, she could forgive them. They were taking her with them to the Ankoku Bujutsukai and she heard that Hiei-kun would be there. She wondered if he would recognize her, or if he would like her now. She wasn't the little girl she used to be just a month ago. Now, she was a sixteen year old girl, who desipsed the fact that she was going to be horizontally challenged all because she spent five hundred years as a little girl. Stupid defected wishes making her short for the rest of her unnaturally long life.
"Rin grab your bags. We're leaving for the bujutsukai soon. Kikyou, I need to speak with you and the rest," the woman from before sighed heavily and nodded at Rin. She stood up and walked over to the regal youkai lord. They watched as Rin ran out of the clearing and into town.
"Has she found it?" Kikyou broke the tense silence around them as the followed Rin at a slower pace.
"She has. She most likely will be joining us during the finals and requests that you take her sword with her," silence followed his statement until they reached their home in the village. Kikyou smirked as she heard hurriedly throwing things in a bag.
"I believe she thinks we'll leave without her and then she'll never get to see her precious 'Hiei-kun'," they shared a smirk as they heard Rin shouting about how they have a cruel sense of humor. "Where are the others Sesshoumaru-sama?"
"They'll meet us at the bujutsukai," he replied as Rin came out with a single bag.
"Well, what're you two waiting for!? Let's go!" Rin ushered them down the road before taking the lead. Kikyou couldn't stop the laugh that came out as she saw how flustered she was over being able to see Hiei again.

--------------------------

The three of them were sitting up in the V.I.P. boxes, watching the final battle of the first round between Yuusuke and Chuu. Rin watched in horror as both used all their ki in a last attack. She feared that the rash teen and the funny drunk were dead. Just by watching them in battle, she could tell they were good people. And good people shouldn't die. Kikyou and her watched with varying degrees of shock as they saw the two of them get up and start laughing about what just happened.
"Am I the only one who is seeing this?" Kikyou never took her eyes off of the television screen.
Rin shook her head, eyes also glued to the television, "nope.. Am I the only one who notices that Yuusuke-kun acts like Inu-chan?"
Sesshoumaru gave an inaudible sigh, "unfortunately, he does."
"The Tournament Comitee has approved the Knife-Edge Death Battle," they heard the intercom announce as Koto immediately got the match back on track.
"I can't believe they would let themselves possibly be killed instead of just calling it a draw," Rin shook her head in exasperation.
Kikyou looked over in her direction with a raised eyebrow, "if Shippou does these same matches all the time, then it shouldn't surprise you that someone else would do them."
"Oh yeah.. I forgot that Shippou loves these types of matches," Rin smiled sheepishly and scratched the side of her face lightly.
They watched the rest of the match in silence, wondering just how much physical strength they have left after each hit. Sesshoumaru smirked slightly as they both get ready to headbutt each other. "Now to see if he can truly be called an incarnate of InuYasha."
Kikyou and Rin held their breath as they waited to see which one will fall first. As Chuu fell down they released their pent up breath. "He has so much honor in letting Chuu keep his life. Most would gladly take it," Rin muttered in awe for him standing up to the youkai calling for Chuu's death.
"Well, Sesshoumaru-sama, it appears that the boy has too much honor to be an incarnate of Inuyasha. But he can pass as a follower," Kikyou remarked to him as the door opened and the person sneezed.
"I figured you three would be talking shit about me," InuYasha commented off-handly to them as he sat down next to Kikyou.
"Oh, is Shippou-san here too Inu-chan?" Rin asked him excitedly. She ran out of the room as soon as he nodded to her.

----------------------------

The sound of silver scraping against steel could be heard echoing down the hall. The young man of twenty-three sighed softly as the sounds reached his ears. Just like her to be focused on work even though they should be heading for the bujutsukai. He quickly walked over to the door the sounds were coming from and opened it. His eyes traveled over her petite body as she sharpened a katana to piercing perfection.
"Act on those thoughts running in your head, and you won't have one anymore," she remarked cooly to him after she felt his eyes on her.
He placed his hand over his heart in mock hurt, "but my beautiful Sango, if I didn't have a head how could I tell you how much I adore you?"
She turned around to look at him with a raised eyebrow, "you know which head I'm talking about houshi-sama."
Miroku gulped, "well.. We need to leave for the bujutsukai now. Sesshoumaru-sama and Kikyou-sama are awaiting our presence there. Inuyasha, Shippou, and Rin are also waiting.
Sango sighed in defeat as she got up and sheathed the katana she had been working on, "I know, houshi-sama. I just wanted to finish this sword since I have a feeling the one Hiei-kun has been using is going to break soon. How long will it take for us to arrive?"
"A day or two if we leave now," Miroku answered as he led the way out to their waiting escort. Jaken was waiting for them outisde, next to a black limo with tinted windows. "A gentleman always holds the door for the lady," Miroku remarked innocently as she opened the last door for Sango.
She went inside, but not before replying with, "since when have you ever been a gentleman houshi-sama?"

----------------------------

"That katana was going to break sooner or later with how much strain you put it under Hiei-kun," a cold voice said to them from the shadows of the enterance corridor. The four exhausted fighters looked all around them warily, trying to pinpoint the voice. If whoever it was proved to be hostile, they doubted that they would have enough energy to fight them off. Especially since Hiei's katana had been, quite literally, shattered.
"Hn," and leave it to Hiei to see how much the person can be pissed off.
"You remind me of someone when you do that, Hiei-kun," only to be surprised whenthat was said in response.
"Who the hell are you!?" Yuusuke shouted to the shadows.
"You don't have to shout, baka tantei. I can hear just fine, ya know!" the shadowed figure shouted back at him.
At the sound of approaching footsteps, everyone turned to face forward. Shippou and Rin showed up and were going to congradualte the team on it's victory, yet something to there side caught their eyes.
"Bachan!" Rin squealed as she glomped someone in the shadows. "You were supposed to be here yesterday! What kept you!?"
Shippou snickered at Rin's innoncence, "oh, I can think of one good reason why she and Miroku are late." Everyone laughed to themselves as Rin asked what that reason was and at feeling the figure blush.
"Inu-kkoro or Miroku can tell you, so why don't you go ask them Rin?" Shippou urged her and soon she was walking away from them with Kurama. Since he had been oh-so nice and elected to escort her. "So, what're you doing here Sango-chan?"
"To give Hiei-kun a replacement katana while I fix one of my greatest masterpieces," Sango told them with a bit of resentment in her voice. She stepped towards Hiei and handed him the katana she had been working on before she left.
A bit stunned by her intuition, Hiei handed her the broken katana as he took the newer one from her. After he placed the katana in his belt, Sango swept him into a bone-crushing hug. "I've missed you so much my hotaru-chan," Sango whispered only for his ear, but the two ningen behind him heard and tried to stifle their laughter.
Shippou, seeing how this could very well escalate into something, decided to avert their attention. "So, Hiei, why don't you and your team come to our suite sometime and join us for dinner. I'm sure everyone would love getting to know what you've been up to," everyone nodded their consent to Shippou at that idea as Sango let Hiei go.
"Should we find Rin-chan and hurt Inuyasha and houshi-sama for the dirty things they've most likely put into her head?" Shippou nodded his head and they said their goodbyes on decided on a when and where to meet for dinner.
As soon as Sango and Shippou were out of sight, Yuusuke and Kuwabara turned towards Hiei with sinister smiles. "My hotaru-chan!" Kuwabara mimicked Sango's voice before the two boys dissolved into laughter like giddy schoolgirls.

----------------------------

The next few days passed in a blur. The Reikai Tantei had become rather good friends with the famed Shi no Karura. The recently awakened Youko side of Kurama easily fit in with Miroku and Yuusuke and their horrible teasing of the girls. Shippou and Inuyasha sometimes joined in, but only when they wouldn't get hurt by Sango, Kikyou, or Botan, or all three of them. Who knew they were so sensitive about those things? Then there were times when they were too blatant about their teasing that Rin would sometimes catch on and wonder why they would talk about those types of things. Of course, those times didn't go over too well with Hiei or Sesshoumaru. Thus, they all learned a very good lesson in being subtle.
With Hiei and Rin, it was obvious that they held more than friendly feelings for each other. At least in Rin's case. Everyone knew that she already had a large crush on Hiei, and the girls enjoyed mercilessly teasing her about it. The guys soon caught on to Rin's feelings after the first few rounds of teasing between the girls, and knew of Hiei's slowly developing feelings for the young girl that practically clung to him for her dear life. So, on occansion, the guys would subtely nudge Hiei to make a move, which just ended up getting them a few painful bumps on their heads.
After those short days of fun and games, it came down to the finals which would decide the fate of the tantei. In front of the Shi no Karura, they tried to keep up with the games and teasing, but it just wasn't the same. The only truly innocent one saw this and told them all that when, and not if, they win, that she would take them all out for a night of partying because it's what aneue would want...
Aneue.
That title brought so many memories back to them all. Her family all wondered what was keeping her, she should've already been at the bujutsukai. But she wasn't. The fact that she was dangerously close to breaking the promise that she had made them all about being here was enough to cause them all to worry. They wouldn't dare tell Rin or Hiei this because Rin just didn't need to know and Hiei didn't need his concern for her clouding up his mind.
For the first two fights of the Ankoku Bujutsukai, the regal immortals sat on the edge of their seats as they watched Kurama nearly die, and Kuwabara pull out some quick thinking from their V.I.P. room. At the start of Hiei's match, Kikyou turned to Sango and they both understood what their intuition was telling them. The two of them politely excused themselves from the room, saying they would rather watch this fight close up. Sango went back to their rooms as Kikyou dashed to the arena just in time to see Hiei destroy the chunks of the floor that were thrown at him. She caught her breath as she felt the beginnings of a portal open up. Praying that Sango would get here soon, she went to the ringside as she knew she had been right. The other piece of her soul was nearby and fighting for the end of their two hundred year long quest.
The battle stopped as both fighters felt the power of the portal and looked up. Everyone else in the arena soon followed their gaze, only to have to dodge the debris that was falling everywhere. Following the debris was a body, clothed in black, heading headfirst for the ground. Everyone watched transfixed, as a javelin followed after the body, before another figure came following. Hiei and Bui jumped outside of the ring along with Juri, as they waited for the first body to make contact with arena and the javelin to impale her. Yet, at the last second the figure kicked the javelin off of its collision course with their body and twisted their body slightly.
Everyone watched in astonishment as the person landed on one hand, twisted it swiftly and launched off, landing a foot away as they caught the javelin in their hand. It was then everyone got a good look at the figure. They were in a skin-tight black cait suit complete with black protective padding, black stealth boots and a black helmet that covered their entire face and a heavily tinted visor blocking off the view of their eyes. The second figure landed soon after the first, and could easily identify the male neko youkai as a general in some youkai army.
"I hope you're ready to die madoshi! Tenshi Koku Ryuu Ha!" the neko shouted as he unleased the light pink dragon the tantei had seen in those haunting memories a month ago.
"Uso dare, konna!" Yusuke groaned as he watched the dragon head straight for the other figure. Kikyou held onto the rail holding her back from failing into the arena.
"If you die from your own attack I'm going to find some way to revive you so I can kill you myself," she mumbled under her breath as she watched the dragon carry the figure off into the sky. The neko turned around and removed his armor that had become too heavy for him.
"Think you can beat me Miko-sama?" he sneered up at Kikyou, while she glared at him through slitted eyes. "I won't have to. You'll die by her hands," the neko scoffed at those words. "She's dead."
"Actually, I'm very much alive.. And thank you for returning my last dragon to me neko," the first figure smartly remarked from behind the neko. When he turned around to face her, she eyed him. "I guess I'll have to remove my armor to make this a little more fair," she reached behind her and unzipped her cait suit before peeling it off. A dark blue tank top and black spandex short-shorts were revealed. There were numerous flesh wounds all across her body, but no one noticed them at the moment. They could feel her eyes narrow as the neko took in her body, "maybe I should stop wearing my cait suit if the only clothes I can wear underneath it distract my opponents.." she thought outloud as she unhooked her helmet.
"No, really Kagome?" Kikyou stated to her matter-of-factly.
"Instead of killing you, maybe I should keep you as a pet.. Yes, you would make an excellent mistress," the neko said to himself while Kagome made gagging gestures and noises.
"Kikyou! Catch!" Sango's voice shouted out as a katana come towards Kikyou's head. They nodded at each other when Kikyou caught the katana before she tossed it to Kagome.
"Make him suffer for having the indecency to insult a member of Shi no Karura!" Sango shouted to her as the katana sailed in the air towards Kagome. For a brief second, the sheath slid off of the katana and the sun hit the engraving on the blade. Everyone saw the blue buring phoenix in flight before the sheath once again covered it. Kagome caught it in her hand, before giving a sadistic grin to the now-scared neko. She unsheathed her katana and immediately it was covered in pink flames.
"I wonder if you can survive a double attack of the energy you confiscated for yourself neko," Kagome glared at him as the dragon she had just reabsorbed came out through her katana and headed straight for him. At the same time the dragon made contact, she slashed at him repeatedly with her flaming katana.
He was pushed into the wall and incinerated while everyone watched. The dragon disappeared and the katana fell from her hands. "Che. Shouldn't have done that," she mumbled as she fell backwards.
"Neechan!"
"Kagome-chan!!"
Her world swam as sounds and colors clashed for dominance before everything became dark.
