Betrayed: Chapter One: The Past
I don't know where else to begin so the beginning will have to do.
My father brought us (my sister, my brother and I) all down to the beach.
I knew what was going to happen. He had been inching toward this question all week.
But even so, I was still shocked when it came out of his mouth.
"I want you to think about this carefully and tell me when you're ready. I would like to know if you'd like to live with me or your mother."
That's it. He said it. The question I knew would come and I'm still not ready.
I looked down at the ground, not ready to break the silence.
Suddenly, my little sister's cheery voice filled the silence.
"I choose you Daddy. I want to live with you!" She yelled happily while jumping around.
I smiled at her naive response to the situation.
'She has no idea the gravity of her choice. It could change her life.' I thought, sadly.
My dad smiled at her with open kindness.
"So quick to decide. Are you sure, honey?" He asked. She jumped up and down like a hyper puppy and nodded her head repeatedly.
Then my older brother piped up.
"I'll stick with you, Dad." He said, clearly. My dad nodded then they all turned to me. Great. I had already known my choice but this was not helping.
"Yes, Daddy, I agree to live with you." I replied to everyone's silent pleading and I saw in my Dad's eyes that deep down he was jumping for joy.
But as soon as my Mom found out, everything went to hell.
She began offering my brother little "trinkets" or bribes and blackmail as I liked to call them.
First, a cell phone was given. Then a computer was bought. And a game- XBox. Then finally, the mother-load, a car.
Now, him being 17 and almost able to have a license, the only thing needed was a car.
Of course, he couldn't resist. I knew he couldn't.

I came downstairs in my pajamas wanting something to eat. A midnight snack, if you will. I approached the kitchen to hear voices, so me being the good little girl, I eavesdropped.
"Why are you over so late Doug?" My dad asked my brother since he never came over at night.
"I needed to talk to you... and Aurora." Doug answered, almost hesitant.
"So, I take it you've changed your mind?" Father commented with a sigh.
"Yes. I've decided to stay with Mom, after all." He replied.
I held my breath as my eyes watered.
'No... he can't go back on his word. Can he? No! He promised!' I felt a war rage within me as I held back the tears and casually stepped into the room towards the fridge.
"Oh, hi Doug." I greeted, faking dumb.
"Hey, Aurora." He replied, uncomfortably.
"Aurora, um, Doug has something he'd like to tell you," Dad started for my brother seeing that he was having a hard time with the words himself.
I slowly turned to face him and kept a calm disposition as I waited.
"I, ah, have changed my mind and I want to stay with Mom." He muttered as he bravely stared straight into my eyes.
I was shocked, again. I could feel my face settle into that shocked look. I think no matter how many times I hear him say it in my dreams, it still shocks me to no end.
I quickly turned calm, again and fake smiled at my brother.
"Alright, Doug. Whatever makes you happy, makes me happy. I'm behind you 110%." I smiled and meant every word because he's my brother.
That night, I cried myself to sleep. That would be the last time I'd ever cry again.

That was two years ago and now I've come to terms with his choice. Although I can still feel a sting of betrayal every time I think about it. But even though he betrayed me, he's still my brother and I love him no matter what and nothing can change that.
Or at least, that's what I thought.
Over the two years we've grown separate. Not just because of the different houses but he went off to college. He contacted me a few times every now and then with e-mail and IM conversations but it just wasn't the same. He felt the difference, too when he came home for Christmas.
We talked like old times. He pulling ingenious jokes and me laughing at them like no tomorrow.
But it just wasn't the same, as nothing ever was or would be again.

So, how was it?
I don't really like writing serious fics but I just needed to let off some steam. If you have comments please tell me and if there are any spelling errors please forgive me cause I know I proofread it well but I could have missed something- I'm only human. At least, I think I'm human: O.o;;
Second chapter will come when I make up my mind which story I want to pair this up with. It's either:
Yu Yu Hakusho
Inuyasha
or, X-Men
or even all of them. If you have a suggestion I will gladly read it in your review. Ja ne minna-san!!!
(Please review. *smile*)
