momo: Yoko will be Kagome's mate later.

tessa3: Kagome will have a humanoid form. She'll be able to change into it later.

Kage Otome: Thanks for thinking their cool. This chapter will talk about the seeing with eyes closed.

Thanks to all who reviewed.

Chapter 2

The rainy season was beginning. That meant light showers fell daily. It wet the ground creating muddy earth that didn't dry. The air was thick and heavy with the wet scent of rain. It was wet with an earthy tang to it. Something not so simply described. It was only to be experienced. This was a time of renewal. The plant life was rejuvenated. Animals fed off the good fare that became available in abundance by the intoxicating weather.

Kagome had yet to experience rain. Today was going to be her first time. She was still in the den now. Currently bouncing around waiting for her parents. They were still shaking the sleep from their bodies. When they started to more forward she took off down the tunnels. The two adults hurried to catch up to their cub. When she got close to the entrance she stopped. Stepping forward slowly she scented the air. The scent caught her by surprise. It was something new. She stuck her nose through the opening smelling deeply. A drop of water dripped down smacking the end of her nose. The kit sneezed roughly and fell backwards. She looked dazed for only a moment before barking excitedly.

Sasha and Raid followed the cub as she ran full out from the den. Kagome jumped in and out various puddles. Her happy barks ran out. The couple settled down on a fairly dry patch of grass to watch. They were startled when Kagome turned to look at them. It was not her usual closed eyes and sightless stare. But with open eyes. It was startling at first. Not only from the good news that she wasn't blind. The eyes they saw were not the solid red color of their kind. Her eyes were like humans eyes. The color was a stunning blue-gray. Still, not even humans had eyes like these. They had something else. They seemed to shine from within. Innocence. Bright and open. As if her soul was bare to the world.

The kit simply rushed back into play. She seemed oblivious to her open eyes and the reaction they caused. Raid lifted himself up. <That's quite…unnatural…It…>

His sentence was cut off by a deep growl. He turned quickly and tensed up. Sasha came at him full force. Her eyes were glowing darkly. The force of her pounce knocked him on his back harshly. After landing on his chest she snarled in his face. <Our daughter is not unnatural.>

<Will you calm down? That's not what I meant. Even you must admit she's out of the ordinary. It isn't just her eyes either. Her fur is still completely black. She see without seeing. These things could put her life in great danger. I simply fear for her.>

Sasha knew why. Spirit foxes, especially in their fox form, were usually driven by instinct. Shunning or on a grander scale killing seemed natural towards another of their kind that was too different. Both had seen some unfortunate cub's neck crushed at least once in their lives. Sasha sighed heavily. She shifted into a resting position on top of Raid. He turned into his human form and put his arms around her.

The female fox sighed again. <It will be difficult. But the way she looks or doesn't look will never effect how we look at her. She'll have us at least.> She pulled herself up and stretched. <After all. If someone tries to harm her it will only give me a reason to kill them. Eh.> Her sharp fangs were exposed as she snarled lightly.

Raid gave her a toothy grin. "Yes it will. Just remember to leave a little for me."

<I'll try.> Their conversation had to be stopped due to the sudden entrance of Kagome. She took advantage of Raid's distraction to barrel straight into him. He was knocked on his back winded. Her chest puffed up with pride while her tongue lolled from the side of her mouth. Sasha gave a sharp barking laugh. <Oh how the mighty have fallen.>

Raid gave her a playful scowl. "That's not true."

<Yeah you're right. You aren't mighty at all.>

He growled lightly. Kagome gave him a light nip on shoulder before running off. Her father jumped up back in fox form and chased after her. They rolled around in the mud mock fighting. Sasha rolled her eyes. She walked a short distance to a better perch that was a little drier under a tree. She hated the rain. Fire was her element after all. But she did find it amusing to watch Raid act like a pup. The vixen looked up at the lights filtering through the trees leaves. Her thoughts turned to Kagome. She also feared the hardships the pup's life will undoubtedly contain.

The seasons had changed again. It was now dry and warm. Kagome could be found in her favorite clearing. As usual she was playing with a leaf that danced from her reach. Her eyes were again closed. Raid was watching her play. Since Sasha had decided that she would go out hunting. He was watching his cub play with a keen eye. Not so much to protect her. The look was for the leaf she played with. For some reason it was bugging him. He didn't know why. Maybe it was because she wasn't really looking at it. Even though the cub would open her eyes. She still tended to keep them closed.

The large male shifted his gaze from the leaf to his cub. She had grown lankier and had lost her baby fat. Her coat had lost the coal black of a pup. It was now a more full shiny black with blue highlights. There were only a few markings in silver. A long stripe ran along her spine from the base of her head to the base of her tail. Her right ear had a silver tip. It was the ear she tended to keep cocked forward. The effect made her look as if she had her head turned in an inquisitive manner.

Stopping her movements Kagome sat back panting slightly. The leaf twirled a little more before falling to the floor. Raid perked his ears and lifted his head. He thought for a second before it dawned on him. 'That's why it seems so odd. I never felt any wind stirring the leaf.' A short bark caught the cub's attention. She loped over to sit in front of him. <Stay right there Kagome.>

Kagome tilted her head slightly but stayed still. Raid jumped up. She followed his movements with her sightless gaze. He landed and side jumped. The cub followed his movements again. Stopping he sat down. Concentrating his power the male stirred up a small breeze behind the cub. He made sure to keep the magic masked. She still whirled around and fully perked up her ears.

Raid stopped the breeze. He gave himself a quick scratch behind the ear for a moment before resting again. 'What power is this?' Ruffling his fur he barked to gain Kagome's attention. She turned back around. <Tell me. How do you do these things?> At her puzzled look he clarified. <How do you make the leaf move? See me without using your eyes? Sense the slightest magic?>

He hoped for answers. But he wasn't sure Kagome could give him one. She could speak well enough. Just that she may not understand how to answer. The cub thought a moment before speaking. <Colo'> Raid looked confused. <There be colo'. You be one colo'. Leaf other colo'. Wind other colo'. No need eye open. See lots a many colo'.>

He shook himself slightly pondering the jumbled speech. The idea of sensing things as color was something he never encountered. 'Colors?' <How do you see the colors if not with your eyes?>

<Colo' jus' happen.>

An almost angry look appeared on Raid's face. He didn't understand what she saw. Kagome started to shrink back. The look started to scare her. Relaxing the older fox brought the kit closer. He used his paw to pull her against his belly. She burrowed into the thick fur and breathed deep. <Do not fear my Kagome. I'm not angry with you. I simply don't understand. But we won't speak of it anymore today.>

The small cub nodded. She curled up even more. Yawning widely she began to fall asleep. Raid quietly lay down on his side cradling the cub. His tails went around to keep her close. He laid his head on his paws and rested. Not long after Sasha came into the clearing. Trotting over she dropped down on the other side of the sleeping cub.

<How are things?>

Raid picked up his head and put his gaze on her. <They are fine. But Kagome has brought something to my attention.>

<Like what?>

<She can sense things somehow. By seeing colors. I don't quite understand what it is.>

Sasha thought for a moment. <I've heard of something like it. Things can sometimes be seen by the mind instead of the eyes. Perhaps that's what it is?>

<I suppose. It worries me a bit.>

<Why?>

He looked down momentarily. <She already has some kind of magic or ability. Think. How powerful can she get if she has this ability as a cub barely a few years old.>

<I'm not sure. But it could be for the best. This power could only be the beginning. She could have many abilities to protect herself with. And she will need protection.>

<You could be right. I just don't know.>

<Don't think so much about it.> Sasha rose. She stretched out yawning. <We'll think on it another time.>

Raid nodded. He gently picked up the sleeping cub and followed Sasha to the den. His thoughts still thinking of his kit's power. Fearing the trouble her future talents could cause.

If you think Kagome talks to funny. Sorry. I was trying to write it like a small child would say it. I've never written so much fluffy stuff. If this is even fluff. I've trying to plan the stuff out so I can update fast without getting stuck. Wish me luck you all. I'm not so sure how good this chapter turned out. I didn't proofread it as well as my other chapters.
