'Kagome's powers talking to her'

----

Hiei had froze at hearing her say his name, his heart skipping a beat at all the emotion behind that one single word. In that very moment he knew, she had survived. And in that same moment he saw the claws aimed for her throat as the hanyou made his move while she was distracted, his body reacted as his sword was drawn and the hanyou's claws met the steel of his blade. Dark flames began rising from his body as his crimson eyes met those of the hanyou with the look that promised an immediate, imminent, and painful death.

The others had been too shocked at the scene before them to move, but the words that came from Hiei's mouth sent a sliver of fear down the spines of all present even as their shock deepened. The jagan had flared wide, his bandaged arm burst into black flame, and he growled, “I will not allow you to lay a hand on my mate, Inuyasha.”

Kagome was so close to tears, but she held it in as she saw her love move and blocked a strike meant to kill her. Inuyasha sneered as he backed away a few steps before speaking, “and here I thought you loved the annoying little whore that followed me around during the Feudal Era.”

That struck a nerve to the point that those assembled, with the exception of Inuyasha, all shivered at the spike in Kagome's aura. Her eyes had a deadly look as they turned to regard the hanyou before her. “Inuyasha, SIT!”

The hanyou slammed into the ground so hard that he created a crater. A menacing growl echoed through the clearing as he slowly rose back to his feet, and a gasp was heard as Shiori realized exactly who the woman with blue eyes was. “Ka-go-me…” the man growled as deadly amber locked onto shining sapphire. “I thought you were dead.”

“And I thought you were better than Naraku,” she challenged back as the sword within her hand pulsed once more. The winds picked up around her as she moved in front of Hiei and once more swung the sword. “Windscar.”

Inuyasha once again dodged with a snarl as he backed away from the group. After leveling one last glare at them and a heated, angry look at Kagome, he disappeared after saying, “I'll be back bitch, and I'll be taking you and my mate when I return.”

Once he was out of sight, tears began to fall as the fang fell from Kagome's hands and returned to its normal state, looking like a rusty old sword, as she spun around and threw herself onto the fire demon standing behind her. Hiei had quickly sheathed his sword before catching her, his arms wrapping around her waist as her tears began soaking the front of his shirt.. Yusuke was the one to break them up as he swore loudly, “what the FUCK is goin on here!?”

Kagome's watery eyes turned to him just as a wail pierced the air and her attention averted to the bat hanyou lying nearby with Yukina. A gasp escaped her as she instantly ran forward when the ice maiden gave her a sad look. Her hands took on a blue glow as she quickly laid them over the woman and healed the grave wounds in a matter of seconds. Shiori's violet eyes opened as she looked into the sapphire blue eyes that she now recognized before throwing herself into the woman's arms while still holding both bundles close to herself. “Kagome-sama!”

The miko wrapped her arms around the now sobbing woman as Yukina slowly moved closer and asked to take a look at the two bundles. The bat demon shook, but at Kagome's reassuring look handed both to the young maiden. Both bundles held crying babies, both male and part demon. Yukina checked them carefully before saying they were perfectly fine, though the smaller boy's cord was cut a little too short. Shiori only cried harder as Kagome slowly began to run her fingers soothingly through the girl's hair. After a few moments she quieted and it appeared she had fallen asleep, as the miko was sure she had been quite tired.

Kagome looked up at those surrounding her, noting that Botan and an elderly woman had appeared just after she had driven Inuyasha away from them. In a surprising show of strength she easily lifted the demon clinging to her and rose to her feet where she looked over to the young man that had `Jr' on his forehead. “Koenma-san, could you please create a portal to take us back to Yusuke's so that Shiori can rest comfortably and I can get the little ones something to eat?”

At a loss for words the spirit prince simply nodded as he waved his hand and a portal appeared from thin air. Everyone followed them through and into the living room, though Kagome carried the young woman back into what Yusuke knew was her bedroom. While she was in the back he turned to face Hiei with a dark look, “now what the fuck is goin on? How the hell is Gome your mate?!”

Hiei leveled a dark look at the detective and opened his mouth to snap a response, but was stopped by the sound of his mate's voice. “Drop the attitude and your voice Yusu, or I will make sure you regret it.”

“What the hell is going on then?” he questioned in a quieter tone.

A sigh escaped the girl as she looked over all of those gathered before her eyes landed on Youko's curious ones. “It seems, Kurama, that you shall soon have your answers. However, I will see to the welfare of the babies first, and I have a phone call to make before we speak.”

Yukina had moved forward at that as she had both little boys in her arms, held protectively against her body as though they would be hurt if they were any distance from her. Kagome moved to a nearby cupboard in the kitchen, where she took out two different bottles and set them on the counter before pulling a gallon of whole milk out from the refrigerator. She expertly poured nine ounces of milk into each bottle, as well as pulling out a raw slab of meat from the refrigerator, which she used to add a little of the juices into one of the bottles. After shaking up the contents, she returned both the meat and the milk to the fridge and moved toward Yukina who had a strange look on her face.

“What did you do with the meat?”

Kagome looked a little surprised as she looked up into the maiden's curious eyes. “The older one will need more than just milk since he is partially a carnivore, so I added some of the juices from the meat into the milk so that he would take to it a little more. It's better to use actual animal blood from a fresh kill, but this works nicely when it needs to be done quickly and hunting isn't an option.”

“That's just sick!” Kuwabara exclaimed, even as Kagome took the older boy and handed the bottle of regular milk off to Yukina.

“No, it's nature. If his mother had been able to feed him, her milk would contain the extra proteins as her body would know what he needed from carrying him. As that isn't a current option, I used the meat to supply a little extra protein and I'll hunt later so that he can get the protein he actually needs.”

“And why not just let him nurse from his mother later?” questioned Kurama as his golden eyes looked over the miko with a curious, thoughtful glaze.

“Because Shiori is not this little one's mother,” she murmured softly before her sad eyes met those of Hiei's ruby red. “Kikyo is.”

“That's all well and good, but can we get an explanation now?” demanded the spirit detective as he looked at her.

“Hand me my phone please?” she requested. Koenma noticed the device near him and easily offered it to her. She opened the text menu and quickly sent a message with one hand while the other supported and fed the baby. When she was done she looked up at the man she'd been staying with. “What exactly would you like to know?”

“When and how did you mate Hiei?” Yusuke asked firmly as he looked between the two.

“He saved me, five hundred years ago,” she whispered softly, but just loud enough for all present to hear.

“But how…?” Yusuke was so confused it wasn't funny as he looked over at her, conveying as much with his eyes.

“Do you remember the legends from the shrine and the old well house hidden in the shed?” she questioned.

“Hai, but that was all a load of crap. We both agreed that those stories were silly, I mean a man pinned to a tree and never aging and a woman that randomly showed up and was able to free him.”

She smiled. “Hanyou do not age the same as ningen, and being pinned to the tree of ages left him unaffected by the ravages of time. As for my randomly showing up, it wasn't random because I was the reincarnation of the woman that originally pinned him to the tree.”

Blank stares met her response, except for Hiei as he simply looked at her with an unreadable look smoldering in his eyes along with many silent questions. Kurama was the one that broke the new silence as he asked, “and how did you travel through time?”

“There was a portal on the shrine, in a place known as the Bone Eater's Well. In Feudal times it was located deep within the forest of Inuyasha which lay on the outskirts of the village called Edo. Kurama should know it, though during the time of my quest I had heard that he was overseas visiting China.”

Golden eyes widened as he looked at her in a new light. Very few people knew that he had visited China before the barriers had been set up, and even fewer could tell him the time frame of which he had visited in. “How do you know that?”

A chuckle, “my kit told me many tales that his parents had told him about an amazing bandit named Youko Kurama and his partner, a bat demon named Kuroune. As far as I know, Kuroune had gone with you, though I did encounter the man while I was travelling at one point. Now, how about I tell you all a story, the true story of the Shikon no Tama?”

Koenma's eyes widened as his pacifier fell from his mouth, Kurama's golden eyes deepened, Genkai's eyes darkened, and the two from the human world were simply confused; though Yusuke at least knew a little about the jewel. Koenma motioned for all present to sit and asked if she would convey to them the tale. And so for hours they sat in Yusuke's living room as she painted the beautiful and deadly picture that was the story of how the jewel came to be as well as how it came to end.

As the story grew darker with the betrayal of Inuyasha, Yusuke's fists began to clench and a dark growl escaped his throat at all that had befallen her. At a look from Genkai he tried and failed to calm himself down, so instead he opted to move to the spot next to her and tug her back into his chest where her scent overwhelmed his senses. A dark aura enveloped all those present as Hiei growled a dark promise that the detective merely ignored for the time being. Kagome didn't seem to notice as her eyes appeared nearly vacant as she recounted the story, showing them that she was living through the memories in that moment.

Just before she could tell them about the final battle, the door was thrown open and loud squawks could be heard as a guy clearly demanded that a child slow down, take her shoes off, and wait for him. A smile touched the miko's face as she rose from her seat and moved toward the entryway with the baby still in her arms. “Silence Jaken.”

“Yes milady,” the imp squeaked at her commanding tone. The others were wearing matching looks of surprise until the child he'd been squawking at threw herself at Kagome and wrapped her arms around her mother's neck. Her sensitive little nose had already warned her about the precious bundle in her mother's other arm, so she had been careful to avoid bumping it and smiled as her mother fully lifted her up and settled her on her hip.

“Momma, who's he?” she questioned as she peered over at the bundled little boy. He had cute little puppy ears and black hair. Small little eyes opened as though sensing the little girl nearby and wanting to see who was studying him. It was revealed that he had beautiful violet eyes and the girl looked up at her mother in awe. “May I hold him?”

“I'm not quite sure about his name, but he is your cousin. And if you sit down on the couch you may hold him.”

The little one gave a soft squeal and jumped down before running over to the couch and settling herself on it. Kagome had just situated the little, now giggling, bundle on her daughter's lap as Hiei moved to touch her arm, “Kagome?”

She noticed as his eyes darted to the little girl before back to her and she smiled softly before leaning back down to her little one and retrieving the bundle and turning her to face the fire demon. “Kage, this is your father.”

Small crimson eyes widened before she launched herself into the man's arms as he deftly caught her on reflex. His eyes were wide from both shock and surprise even as the little one squealed “daddy!”
