New Life Begins
Chapter 2: Meeting the SD’s
Kagome got up and headed for the shower. She needed to make it a quick one since she slept in a little, and was already running behind. If there was one thing she hated about her change it was her hair. She loved the blue and white highlights, but she hated washing it. She practically used two bottles of shampoo a week.
Kagome finished washing herself up. She got out of the shower brushed her teeth, and hair. She sighed when she looked into the mirror. She cast the spell to make her demon attributes go away, and made a quick check to make sure everything was gone.
She headed to her room to get dressed. Thankfully this new school doesn’t make you wear their uniforms. She liked her style of clothing now. She put on a pair of hip hugger bellbottoms that had a dragon that wrapped around her left leg, and a black sleeveless shirt that said ‘Hell Hath No Fury Like Me’. Looking at herself one last time in the mirror, she slipped on her shoes and headed downstairs for breakfast.
Shippo was already dressed and ready waiting for her. He wore a pair of baggy black jeans and a Metallica tee shirt. He looked up and smiled as she entered the kitchen. Even though he was now a teen in demon years, he was still her pup.
The doorbell rang and they both headed for the door. After a quick shout of goodbye to her mother, Shippo, Kagome, and Souta headed out the door to the limo were Rin waited.
Kagome shook her head at the sight of Rin. Even though Rin was a teenager now too she still had her obsession with flowers. There wasn’t any article of clothing she owned that didn’t have a flower on it somewhere. Rin wore a pale yellow sundress with sunflowers all over it. Rin smiled and waved at them as they approached.
Shippo and Souta got in the limo. Just as Kagome was fixing to get in she felt a lot of demon energy coming from the woods behind the park. She swore. It seemed she could never get at least one day off.
“You guys go ahead with out me. I need to go make sure that demon doesn’t hurt anyone. Just make up some excuse why I’m going to be late. All right.”
“Sure thing Mom. You sure you don’t need any help with it?” Asked Shippo.
“No go ahead. We don’t all need to be late for our first day of school.”
She watched the limo drive away before she ran in to the woods towards the demons. When she got there she found that there was five demons. All low level and it wouldn’t be a problem.
Kagome dropped her human disguise and approached them. As she did they spotted her and looked her over.
“Well well well what do we have here? A little inu come to play with us.”
Boy were they ugly. The one that spoke was uglier then Jaken. He looked half toad and half fish.
“What are you doing in Ningenkai demons? You are not supposed to be here.”
“We were looking for the Shikon no Tama, but it looks like we won’t have to look for it anymore. You have brought it to us I see.”
“If you wish for the Shikon you will have to kill me first.” Kagome responded coldly. Thankfully Sesshoumaru had taught her how to keep on the mask in battle.
The demons all charged her at once. She called for Phoenix to appear. Her blade transformed and she made quick work of the demons. The battle hadn’t lasted more then a few minutes, and was very boring. She sighed. Thankfully she didn’t get any blood on her so she wouldn’t have to go back home to change.
She chanted to her demon features to disappear again and put away Phoenix. Using her demon speed it didn’t take long for her to reach the school. Just as she arrived the bell rang and she sprinted at a human speed for the office. She spotted Rin and Shippo sitting in the office waiting for the principle.
“Are you O.K.? ‘Gome’?” They both asked.
“Of course. You didn’t really believe that I wouldn’t be did you?” She smirked as she teased them.
She suddenly felt two demon auras coming toward the office. She looked over at Rin and Shippo to see if they knew anything about it.
“We already checked them out. Apparently they go to this school. They also hang out with two humans with very high spiritual energy.” Shippo said.
“O.k. but keep an eye out on them. We don’t need for any trouble to start.”
Rin and Shippo nodded their heads in agreement and watched as four boys walked into the office. One they could tell was a fox demon he had shiny red hair and wore what looked like a pink suit. The other was a fire apparition. He was a bit shorter then the rest and had black hair with white in the front. The two humans were with them. One with slicked back black hair and wore a green uniform. The other was tall red head and a bit ugly.
When the boys entered the office they all looked Kagome’s way. She paid them no mind and kept up her conversation with Shippo. She made sure to keep one of her ears trained on the group of boys to see if she could find anything out about them.
“Can’t you boys stay out of the office for one day?” Scowled the secretary. “Well since you boys are here I would like for you to show our new students around today. Do you think you can handle that without causing any trouble?”
“It would be a pleasure Mrs. Harrison.” The handsome red head said.
“Why can’t the rest of you be more like Mr. Minamino here huh? He is such a polite young man. Anyway can you kids come over here please?” She waved over Kagome and the others and started to introduce them.
“Alright boys this is Higurashi, Kagome; Higurashi, Shippo; and Taiyoukai, Rin. Kids theses boys are Minamino, Shuichi; Urameshi, Yuske; Kazuma, Kuwabara; and Jaganshi, Hiei. These boys will be showing you kids to your classrooms o.k. Now off with all of you. Don’t want to be late do you?”
The secretary shooed them out of the office. They all stood in the hallway sizing each other up. Shuichi stepped forward with a smile a held out his hand. Kagome looked at his hand and smirked as she shook it.
“It’s a pleasure to make your acquaintance.” He politely said.
“I’m sure. So can you boys please show us to class. We really don’t want to be late.” As she turned around she noticed Rin eyeing the handsome redhead, and decided to check into that later.

The school day went by quickly. They had no trouble out of the boys so they didn’t say anything. Kagome couldn’t get Hiei out of her head. There was something about him she could quite put her finger on. But she would sure as hell try and figure it out. She had notice that he kept watching her all day. It was like he expected her to attack him any minute.
Kagome instructed Rin and Shippo to go to the mansion and see if Sesshoumaru needed them to do anything. She waited until the limo was out of site before she headed for the park. She noticed that Hiei was following her and decided she better find a secluded spot to talk in.
She headed for the woods behind the park. Then stood in a clearing waiting for him to show up. He didn’t disappoint her. He came walking into the clearing seconds after she arrived. His hand went to the hilt of his sword as he watched her.
“What are you doing at the school demoness?” He asked.
“Oh just keeping up appearances you could say. Though I could ask you the same thing firefly.”
She watched as his hand tightened on his sword. Before he could even draw it she was behind him with a dagger at his throat.
“Now now little firefly, you may be fast, but I am faster.” She teased. “I mean no harm to the school or its students if that is what you are getting at. Like I said just to keep up appearances.”
“You wear the Shikon no Tama.” He felt her stiffen behind him.
“I am its Guardian. You I have noticed have the Jagan Eye do you not?” This time it was him to stiffen.
“Yes.” He answered coldly.
Kagome lowered her head to his neck and sniffed.
“Did you know that you smell good firefly? Absolutely delicious.” He could feel her breath on his neck and was trying his best to keep his race heart down. “You know what I’m bored. Would you care to spar with me?”
“Hn”
Kagome giggled. “I’ll take that as a yes.” She withdrew the dagger and jumped in front of him. She cocked her head to the side and eyed him curiously. “Hand to Hand or swords? You pick.”
“Swords”
“As you wish firefly.”
She called for Phoenix and dropped her disguise. Even though he didn’t show it, Hiei was in awe. She was the most beautiful demoness he had ever laid eyes on. He had never really been interest in the opposite sex. Never really had the time for relationships or anything in that manner.
They both waited for the other to make a move. Suddenly Hiei charged her. She brought her sword up to block his attack. She smirked at him.
“I can already tell this is going to be quite interesting.” She said.
He jumped back away from her and charged again. Soon all you could see was two blurs in the clearing. Nether was winning, and both really weren’t trying. Suddenly they both heard a shout.
“SPIRIT GUN”
Kagome quickly threw up a barrier around them and it deflected the attack. She eyed the other boys.
“Are you alright Hiei?” Shuichi asked.
“Hn”
Kagome grinned. “May I ask why you interrupted our little sparring section?”
“My apologize Kagome we thought that you two were actually fighting.” He replied.
“That's quiet alright.” She looked them all over then grinned. “Let me take a wild guess. You boys wouldn’t happen to be Prince Koenma’s Spirit Detectives would you?”
The boys stiffened. “So what if we are wench.” Yusuke replied. “Got a problem with that.”
“How do you know my I ask?” Shuichi asked calmly.
“Oh King Yamma and I go way back. Last time I saw Prince Koenma he was still using his toddler form. Does he still do that?”
“You mean you have met King Yamma.” She flashed them a smile that showed her fangs.
“Why of course. It’s a long story. Maybe I’ll tell you someday. But to make it short I was one of the ones that helped put up the barrier that divided Ningenkai from Makai.”
Suddenly a blue haired girl riding an oar popped out of no where. “Hey guys Koenma wants to see you.” She spotted Kagome. “Oh Lady Kagome it’s so nice to see you again.”
“Hello Botan. How have you been lately?”
“Fine fine. Koenma keeps me busy with collecting souls and keeping the boys updated with their missions.”
“Wait Botan you know Kagome.” Yuske asked.
“Why of course. How long has it been since the barrier was formed. Two hundred and fifty years?”
“Wow you’re that old you look really young.” Kuwabara said.
“Idiot” Hiei said under his breath.
“Why thank you Kuwabara. A woman always likes to be reminded that she is looking young.”
“So how old are you exactly?” Yuske asked. “Don’t be rude Yuske you shouldn’t ask a woman her age.” Scowled Botan.
Kagome waved her off. “Oh it’s no big deal Botan. I don’t mind answering. Lets see if I remember correctly I will be 600 in 20 more years.”
Yuske and Kuwabara looked at her wide-eyed and open-mouthed. She giggled at them. “You know if you don’t close your mouths you might get something caught in it.”
Kagome turned back to Botan. “Hey Botan could you set up a meeting so that we can all see Koenma again. I will bring the others with me. Say tomorrow after school?”
“Sure thing Kagome. Not a problem.”
“Thanks. Well I guess I’ll see you guys at school tomorrow.” She turned to Hiei. “We will have to finish our sparring section later.”
“Hn”
She just smiled and winked at him making him blush a little. Just not enough for the humans to notice. Kurama noticed though and almost killed over in shock. Hiei was never the kind of person to blush.
“Well see you all later.”
Then she was gone.
“Come on guys we have a new mission.” Botan said. She opened the portal and everyone jumped in and was gone.
