Chapter 22~We Meet Again!

~~~After Inuyasha left back down the well, Kagome got her sutra's and began to place them around the shrine grounds, to make sure no demons could enter the shrine or her home and do any harm to her or her beloved family, who at the moment were not there. As she placed the sutra's she noticed what she hadnt when Inuyasha had been there. The dark but familiar aura of Hiei. It was faint, meaning he wasnt there anymore, but that he had been recently. This caused her to feel two things. Anger and a bit of excitement. Anger that he would spy on her without her knowledge, after all he had done to her, and excitement because wether she admitted it or not, she had liked some of the things he had done to her back at the cave before she had gotten a bit scared and asked him to stop. But even this would not get him off the hook when and if she ever saw him again.

~~~After putting the Sutra's up, she went inside, grabbed a snack, took a bath then hit the sack. She was tired, emotionally. Everything that had happened was still so fresh and her mind was just to damn tired of thinking of it all at the moment. So she let herself fall into a dreamless sleep. All the while unaware of the black dressed demon who watched from a tree just out of range of her sutra's, he was going to keep his promise and watch over her, but he wasnt about to get his ass fried either. Why did the wentch have to put the sutra's up? It made his job watching over her that much more harder and he hated that.

~~~Kagome walked to the library the next day. She had graduated highschool but hadnt gone to a university because of the quest still being unfinished. It had been hard enough to pass highschool while going back and forth from one period of time to the next, her grades had suffered and it had taken alot to just pass. She wasnt about to go to a university that would require more intense studying than highschool had been. But it didnt meant she could study on her own and make herself smarter when she was home. So when she was in her own time she often went to the library and looked up books about history, especially the fuedal era, as well as legends of the same era and alot of books about medicinal herbs and what not. She had gone through all of her grandfathers scrolls through out the years, trying to prepare herself to be a proper miko and help in her quest for the shikon no tama fragments.

~~~As she walked to the library she was so deep in thought that she hadnt been watching where she was going and bumped into someone.

"Oh my Im soo sorry, please forgive me." came the masculine voice of the person she bumped into, as he apologized sincerly.

"No it was my fault I wasnt looking where I was going." she replied as she looked up and smiled at him apologeticly, thats when they both stared at each other in surprise.

"Hiragashi?"

"Hojo?"

"Omg I havent seen you since high school, how have you been?" Hojo asked with real happiness as he gave her a hug and a huge smile. Kagome returned it, smiling herself. It had been over a year since shed seen Hojo or any of her friends from school, she was really pleased to see an old face.

"Ive been really well, how about you? I heard you were accepted to a very prestigious university after high school?" replied Kagome as she pulled away from the embrace.

"Ya I was, still going but I came home for spring break..finals were brutal but I think I did ok." Hojo replied a bit shyly. Kagome smiled. Same old Hojo.

"I bet you did great, you were always the brightest student I knew."

"I wish you could have gone to university as well, but I understand your decision to stay at the shrine to help out your family, especially since your grandfather is getting older, its really great of you to be there for him and all." Hojo complimented, haveing heard this as the reason she had choosen not to go to university just yet. She felt a little pang of guilt at this but pushed it away. Yes she helped gramps but most of her time was spent in the fuedal era hunting down shards and trying to locate and kill Naraku. But she couldnt just have told anyone that.

"Thank you Hojo." Kagome replied with a smile albeit slighly guilty smile.

"Hey since Im only in town for a few days how bout we go out to dinner or a movie?" Hojo asked and Kagome had to smile at that. Hojo had stopped asking her out in thier junior year of highschool when he realized she liked him but as a friend only and then met a girl he really liked as well as she liked him. Ah the cold old days she thought.

"Hojo are you asking me out on a date?" she teased and Hojo's face got all red. Kagome smiled behind her hand.

"Id love to go out to dinner with you Hojo, its been a long time and I would love to catch up with an old friend." Kagome replied with a warm smile.

"Thats terrific, I'll call you and set things up k?" he said happily, finally getting a good response to one of his offers, although Hojo knew by now that even this was between friends and not a true date, but he still wanted to enjoy one night with her to catch up on things and just be with her, she was such a beautifull young lady, so kind and always sweet and full of laughter.

"Ok, I better get to the library already, I may not be going to the university but I can still study and learn on my own, call me later ok?"

"Ok bye Hiragashi, talk to you soon, it was great meeting up with you again."

"You too Hojo..bye." she replied as she waved him off and started to walk faster down the side walk. Once she turned the corner she stopped and glared up into a bushy tree.

"Why the hell are you following me and spying on me you spikey haired jack ass?" she asked with anger in her voice and eyes as she glared at the tree. She couldnt see Hiei but she felt him, hed been following her since she had left the shrine. It wasnt till she had been talking to Hojo that she had sensed a twinge of danger and it wasnt for her but Hojo.

"Fine then, dont speak." Kagome added calmly after Hiei refused to answer her. It wasnt till a few minutes later, that Hiei regretted not noticing the change in her voice.

~~~Ever so calmly and with a smile Kagome flicked her fingers towards the tree and a stunned Hiei fell out of the tree when a small jolt of her miko powers had hit him unexpectedly, at least unexpected to him, not to her. She had promised to purify his ass when they ever met again, but on second thought she had just given him a good zap, to let him know that she was not someone to take lightly, or a defensless ningen.

"What the hell was that for you stupid ningen?" Hiei asked, quickly recovering from the zap and angry as all get out. He didnt see the second flick of her fingers as he was zapped again. He didnt fall or anything, but the damn thing hurt, all the way to the bones.

"If I were you miko, I would stop that, lest you wish to be cut to ribbons." came Hiei's deadly, but cool calm voice.

"Try it asshole, after what you left me with I have the right to cause you some of the pain you caused me."

"I did not hurt you, I rescued you, you dolt." he replied.

"Funny I dont remember any rescues involving mating rituals." she countered.

"I didnt hear you complain at the time miko." was Hiei's cool but smug reply.

"Had I known what the hell you would be doing to me and leaving me with then I sure in hell would of complained my head off you arrogant little asshole." Kagome replied heatedly. Her face flushed not only with anger, but being reminded of her wanton attitude that night did not make her feel any better.

"I was in primal form....as Ive said...my only goal was the most basic of needs..had I been in my right mind I would never have touched you, you were just a convenient female which my primal form found suitable for mating." came Hiei's cold reply. Kagome narrowed her eyes.

"Ive changed my mind....I think I will purify your ass." she said as she lifted both palms that began to glow an intense pink, but before she could do anything Hiei was gone in a flash of black lightning. She felt his aura but it was further away and not close enough to purify.

"Asshole!" she growled, as she turned on her heels and continued her walk to the library. She was so mad you could almost see the steam coming out of her ears. As she walked she cursed and mumbled about her dislike for the fiery black demon.

~~~Unknown to her, Hiei could still hear every word she said even at this distance. He hadnt really meant to say all those things to her. To hurt her. Or had he? He didnt like her, he didnt want her, he did not care about her stupid ningen feelings. But if he didnt care about them like he kept telling himself, then why did he feel a pang of regret? He used his clawed to slice a huge chunk of the tree limb his was perched on. He detested all these doubts and strange new feelings. He detested the miko for bringing them out in him, but most of all, he hated that he cared that he hurt her feelings. And if she thought she was going on some date with an old flame, she had another thing coming. Right now every fiber in his being was demanding he let no other male near her, at any cost.
