Over the Mountain

"So, you're telling us that she's not in there?"
Kuwabara nodded. "Her energy moved since I last sensed it."
"Kuwabara, get your senses straight." Yusuke said, frustrated. The 'perfect' group walked along in the dense part of the woods where Setsuna had just been no more than a few hours ago.
"She's moving quite fast." Miroku noted.
Sango nodded in agreement.
"Yeah, that's like Shimp fast!" Kuwabara half-shouted, refering to Hiei.
"Shout your mouth and try, for one of the rare instances, to concentrate." Hiei said with a hint of a scowl in his voice.
"Inuyasha," the monk began. "Do you think we can catch up to her and Kagome before nightfall?"
"I doubt it." Inuyasha said, deadpan. "Kagome's scent is pretty far off." Was it just them or did the group hear a touch of worry in his voice?
Kuwabara was suddenly curious and leaned to Kurama. "Hey, who's this Setsuna anyway? It's kinda hard to look for someone when I don't know who they are." His eyes went to hearts. "Except for my Yukina-san!"
Hiei closed his eyes at the mention of his sister's name by the Fool. This was harder than they had expected.

"So, where are we going next?" Kagome asked.
Setsuna shrugged along with Sasaki. After they had met back up thanks to Kagome's power to sense jewel shards, they had planned to travel until they either met with the Inuyasha or came across the well.
"I say we just go to the next village and see what we find there." Meyko suggested.
"Sounds fine." Sasaki said. "Setsuna, what do you think?"
Setsuna thought for a moment before nodding, indicating that it would be safe to go there.
They traveled for only a few hours before Sasaki stopped.
"What is it?" Kagome questioned.
"A spirit shield. We'll have to take the pass over the mountains." Sasaki answered.
"And there's a lot more in those mountains than you may think." Meyko said, half warning.
Setsuna had a grim look on her face, holding her reduced size shadow cat in her arms.

"Yes! I did see those girls passing by! The dark one was complaining about having to pass over the mountains." the village woman informed. "And the one didn't say anything. She had the strangest cat. Scary little devil it was."
"Where did you say they were going?" Kurama questioned.
The woman pointed to the mountains. They were engulfed in black clouds and a few flashes of lightning every so often. "Up there. I would have recommended an easier way, but whatever may suit them!" And she walked away with that.
Miroku looked to the mountain. "I've heard rumors about very strong demons dwelling on that mountain."
"Well then, let's get moving!" Yusuke said.
A few hours passed until the group reached the base of the mountain. The sun was silently setting as the moon rose.
"There is an evil presence here." Miroku warned.
"Geez, could you be more obvious?" Inuyasha asked, irritated.
"Maybe they found a way to get back home and we just don't know it." Kuwabara suggested.
Yusuke sighed. "You're the spiritually aware one. You tell us."
"Sasaki! Baka ne!" came from a distance.
"Shut it, Meyko!" another voice replied.
There was the sound of a firecracker.
"HEY!"
"I'll blow you into pieces if you say another word!"
"Both of you stop!"
Inuyasha paused.
"That was Kagome's voice." Sango clarified.

"Sasaki! Baka ne!" Meyko shouted.
"Shut it, Meyko!" Sasaki yelled back. She created a small bomb and threw it at Meyko.
"HEY!" She side-stepped just as it exploded.
"I'll blow you into pieces if you say another word!"
"Both of you stop!" Kagome finally cut in. "What are you fighting over anyway?!"
The two shrugged and Kagome sweatdropped as Setsuna covered her mouth with her hand to conceal a smile. The shadow cat, who had been named Nariko for such loud purring, yawned in its smaller form while sitting next to Setsuna.
"Why don't we play a game or something?" Kagome offered after a long pause.
"Like what?" Sasaki and Meyko asked together.
Kagome fished around in her bag, throwing random things on the ground in her search. She finally pulled out a deck of cards. "Like a game of cards."
They gathered in a small circle by the fire and Kagome explained the rules.
"Simple enough." Meyko said.
Setsuna delt the cards and the game began.

"Can we please take a rest for the night?" Kuwabara whined.
"Could you shut the hell up?! All you do is complain!" Inuyasha snapped.
"Hn. It's the only thing that he's good at." Hiei mocked.
"Watch it, Shrimp! Or I might just have to pound you!" Kuwabara retorted.
Sango leaned to Miroku's ear. "Is it just me or do they fight more than Kagome and Inuyasha?"
"I don't know. Inuyasha fights with Kagome constanly." Miroku answered.
"Hey, look up ahead. I think it's firelight."

Sasaki sat up staight and went silent.
"What's wrong?" Meyko asked.
"Someone's coming, someone strong." She paused. "Meyko, take Kagome and Setsuna as far away from here as you can. I'll be right behind you."
"Alright, alright. I'm going. Come on, you two. You heard her."
Setsuna and Kagome followed Meyko, never taking their eyes off of Sasaki. Something was wrong. Sasaki wasn't acting like herself. She seemed angry and depressed this time. Nariko jumped up and followed behind Setsuna.
"Run faster!" Sasaki shouted. Something cut through the trees and surrounded them with black light just as they entered a clearing.

"They aren't even five minutes a head of us." Kurama said, looking at the still-burning fire.
"Something must have been wrong for them to leave so quickly." Miroku added.
Kuwabara spoke up, "Demons? I mean, you guys did say they were really strong around here. Maybe one attacked them."
Then, there was a sudden sharp rise of ki not far from where they stood.
"Ensatsu Koku Ryu Ha!" was shouted, but not from Hiei.

"Setsuna! Let her go, you bastard!" Sasaki yelled with pure anger.
"Not a chance. Your little friend is very valuable to me." the demon replied. He stood in a giant, black flower. Dozens of tentacles wave wildly around them, creating a shield. "And I'll kill you just to test how my new technique will work." He touched his hand to the unconcious Setsuna's head and closed his eyes.
"You see, we dream weavers have the ability to drive someone insane through their dreams, but when a person's dreams have the power over the fates of others....well, you take a guess."
Meyko had recalled the dragon. The tentacles it burned away only regrew and took the place of others. Kagome had tried a sacred arrow, but it only had the same effect.
"Kisama!" Sasaki yelled. "I'll kill you with my bare hands!" She lunged into the abyss of whipping lines, some exploding as she went.
The group of Inuyasha and the others entered the clearing. Inuyasha ran to Kagome to make sure she was alright. His pride didn't quite matter at the moment.
"Setsuna is up there!" Kagome pointed to the demon and Setsuna in the center of the chaos. The demon's hair was a bright white and his eyes were a deep golden color.
"Kuso!" Meyko swore. "Why didn't we see it before?! She doesn't see the future!"
Yusuke turned to her. "What are you saying?"
"She doesn't see it! She forms it with her dreams! If he forces her to dream about the bloody death of all of us then it will happen!"
Yusuke turned to his teammates. "Let's hurry!"

I finally woke up...or thought I did. Everything was white. The groud was replaced with a void of nothing. I was still in my school uniform, but something was wrong with this dream.
"Setsuna, nice to see you in this lovely dream of yours."
I jumped at the voice. **Dare da?** I asked, my voice echoing thoughout my mind.
"How could you ask such a thing? I'm simply hear to see your dreams."
**Baka! This is MY dream! You don't think I can hear your thoughts? I have control over my thoughts! Not you!**
He appeared before me. "But I do. You will obey me and dream the deaths of everyone you know."
**No! I won't! And no force in heaven or earth can make me!**
"You are so naive." He walked up and roughly grabbed my chin, forcing me to look at him. Everything around me changed to the battle scene. I squinted my eyes shut.
**Yamero! Get out of my thoughts!** I drew back my hand and back-handed him upside the head. He wiped the blood from the corner of his mouth and took a few steps back.
"You refuse me? Then I'll just have to force you to comply!"
